Vonteera Browser hijacker in about:config, how to remove?

Hello,
I have been infected by a Browser Hijacker, which posts ads on websites. It shows "ads by Volaro" and by doing some reading on the net, Vonteera is involved/ the cause. I have tried to clean the registry and removed several suspicious files from the respective folders in my profile, cleared the pref.js in Mozilla several times, no effect.
In the about:config, I have noticed two Vonteera processes, namely:
vonteera.randurls;{"tp|www.adnets|info|:srv1|do":1,"tps|www.adnetworkus|com|:srv1|analytics":1}
vonteera.randurlsdate;1415467507208
They keep coming back, even if I reset them. I am pretty sure they are the cause of evil.
Any idea how to circumvent this?

Well done.

  • I checked the wrong box on for a website I use frequently and now recieve the message "Access to xpcom is denied. Set "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support=true" in about:config"; how can I change this?

I am tech challenged. I know this is probably a setting that just needs to be changed but I have idea on how or where to go to change it. It appears to be a security setting - I checked the wrong box on a firefox popup regarding access. The site is grammarly.com and when I attempt to paste my copy to be grammar checked it won't allow me to do so, and I get the above quoted message. Please help!

You can check the file prefs.js in the profile folder to see if you find any lines referring to that website and remove those capability.principal.codebase lines.

  • VS2013 - Something related to app config - How to remove "Could not find schema messages"

All of the sudden, I am getting many "Could not find Schema" messages in my Windows Form App.
Why is this occurring ?  How to fix it ?
I tried deleting the app.config and regenerating it.  That did not work.
    Thanks

    Thanks for responding.
I tried the suggested solution in the post you referenced earlier and it did not work.   Then I tried deleting the app.config and resestablishing that and that did not work.
I just tried another suggestion in the post you sent (below)... This DID work for me.
Quickest, easiest laziest way to solve the problem:
Right-click on the project icon and choose "Properties".
Go to the "Application" tab and choose another .NET target framework.
    Save changes.
Go to the "Application" tab and choose the initial .NET target framework.
    Save changes => problem solved!
I have seen this issue come and go before.   It appears to be a bug to me.  Why isn't it something that get fixed ?   Why is it occurring to begin with ?

  • I have configured bowser url in about:config from there onwords i am unable to find orange box on left corner and menu on the right corner as well as navigation

i have configured browser URL at about:config from there onwords i am not able to find orange box, menu, navigation every thing and before opening firefox it is asking permission every time

What kind of permission do you mean?
Do you mean about making changes?
A possible cause of this error is that Firefox is set to run as Administrator.
Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.
    * Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
    * "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).
You can use one of these to set which toolbars to show.
    *"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
*View > Toolbars (press F10 to show the Menu bar)
    *Right-click empty toolbar area

  • Firefox android opens to about.config as home page. unable to set new home page

firefox android always opens new tab or browser session on about:config page.
I've restarted browser and tablet(Samsung Galaxy Tab 3), and this behavior still persists.
All google searches suggest that the firefox android browser home page cannot be changed but this is obviously not true.
I've tried solutions that suggest navigating to about:home and modifying bookmarks and these paths do not work.
The awesome bar is far from awesome!!!!!!
How do I stop the browser from starting at about:config and how can I make the home page be what I want?

In the about:config page entry on the desktop there is a homepage entry, but does not show up on my android, odd.
Try this > Settings > Customize > Home
Change setting here and open a new tab to see if changes are made.
Also check the about:addons page to see if you have any homepage add ons that has saved the about:config page as the home page.
    Looking forward to your reply!

Mozilla, if a large number of people use a feature to the point that they are digging in to the configuration to re-enable it when you turn it off my default, please don't remove the feature altogether. It disrupts users' browsing experience and upsets them.

In the URL bar, type about:config

Google will not remove their location aware feature saying it is picked up by the location aware feature in my firefox browser and referred me to your like where I found the above to disable this feature. slows computer, affects mouse use, about:blank is a web hijacker which I have avoided for 15 years. Now, suddenly, every computer has it. I am behind a router. The only changes I have made is to update firefox. Can you provide help for removing this? When I go to your app for which sets things back to default and pull up your page, in SAFE MODE, I get "about:home" in my address bar. I don't think it's safe to even install your fix at this point. I'd appreciate hearing back from you. Thank you.I am sending this from an OLD computer whose firefox is not updated but where about:home still appears.

    hello,
    Changing the Newtab Page
Go to about:config and search for this option "browser.newtab.url" and chande its value to a page that you want, for example, google.com

  • How can i configure Mozzilla firefox browser to show menubar by default using only about:config options

I'm trying to configure mozilla firefox browser version 36.0 to use in a silent install deployment and so far i've managed to configure almost all settings that i wanted , except the menu bar.
I use a configure file with the options i want for example :
    pref("browser.startup.homepage", about:blank);
    pref("browser.shell.checkDefaultBrowser", false);
How can make the menubar visible by default ?
    Thanks in advance !
    Best Regards
    Filipe Conceição

That is not possible via prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
Only the toolbar customization is stored in the browser.uiCustomization.state pref.
The setting what toolbars are visible is set via the xulstore.json file.

  • When the about:config setting for swipe are changed to allow changing tabs with swipe it does not repond and performs the default back and forward in browsing history action on the selected window instead of switching tabs. How do I get it to work?

In about:config, the values I changed to for the preference name browser.gesture.swipe.left was Browser:PrevTab and for browser.gesture.swipe.right was Browser:NextTab.
I have the latest synaptics touch pad on my laptop and it supports three touch swipe on windows pcs and on firefox. The about:config setting seem to be specific for MACs and so does not responds to windows changes.

  • My favicons are not showing up for all my imported bookmarks as well as certain current bookmarks and when I open the about:config it says "browser.chrome.favicons;false". Shouldn't this be true and how to I change it?

I had to rebuild my computer and when I imported all of my bookmarks they had no favicons. I started getting some of the favicons when I would go to the websight it would reconnect, but now I can't seem to see almost any of them. I did a search on Google and one tech site suggested the about:config file and that the "browser.chrome.favicons;false" should be set to true. But when I toggle it to true and restart Firefox it is once more set to false. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it is really annoying not having those favicons.
Help me Obi Wan Firefox you are my only hope.

The browser.chrome.favicons preference should be set to true, as it is not retaining the value when you restart Firefox, see the [[Preferences are not saved]] article for possible causes.

  • How to permanently remove about:blank browser hijacker?

I would like to know if anyone has successfully removed about:blank browser hijacker. I have been seeing about:blank show up and keep trying different ways to remove it and it seems to work temporarily but comes back. I have cleared history, cookies, cache all recommended by other users but it doesn't last. Can anyone help?

Hi, not sure exactly what (if any) malware scans you've already run, so try working through [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware this article.]
    Hope this will fix it.

  • Pin.wid has become my default browser, i don't want it, can't uninstall and have no luck with 'about:config??

OK. How do I get rid of pin.wid as my default browser. When I click on firefox I get pin.wid. I can't uninstall it. I emailed them with this question. Reply (shortened); about:config in address bar, i promise, keyword.url in search box... stuck there.... no results.

There are a few different ways a site could take over your home page. Those include:
    (1) Changing your setting<br>
    (2) An add-on<br>
    (3) Hijacking your Firefox shortcut
'''For #1''', you probably have already checked, but just in case:
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    * [[How to set the home page]]
You can use the Home button or open a new window (Ctrl+n) to test the change.
Note that malware can create a file that will revert your settings at startup. This article describes how to track down any such user.js file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    '''For #2''', try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
'''For #3''', if you only get the unwanted page on startup and not when you use the Home icon or open a new window (Ctrl+n), check here: right-click your desktop shortcut for Firefox > Properties > Shortcut tab. For 64-bit Windows, the Target should be the following, no more, no less:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    Any luck?
