Vote For Oracle Java Products

For two days already we see vary unusual activity on the contest:
http://www.sys-con.com/java/readerschoice2002
The rate is several hundred votes in an hour!!!
Almost all votes go to IBM products.
Oracle suddenly lost leading or good positions in categories:
"Best J2EE IDE",
"Best Java Application Server",
"Best Java Developer Studio",
"Best Java IDE Environment"
They also target "Best Enterprise Database"
Vote for your favorite Oracle Java Products.

We also noticed this strange phenomena. IBM got about 1000 votes in 2 days - very suspicious.
You can change the picture by voting for your favorite products at:

thanks for your support!

  • Wanted: Recommendations for Oracle/Java Web Hosting

    I'd like to make some Java/JSTL servlets that access an oracle database.
    Can someone recommend a hosting service?
    I'm most familiar with the open source products like JBoss and Jetty and tomcat.
    Thanks
    Siegfried

    You know Oracle is wickedly expensive, right? Expect a yearly license fee of 5000 or even 80000 dollars just to be allowed to use it for commercial purposes, price depending on what you're going to do with it and on what kind of hardware it is going to run on.
    Other than that: nobody can recommend you where you should be throwing your money at. Perform research yourself and if you're stuck choosing between different options provide them here and perhaps someone will have an opinion on it (likely not though).

  • Poor P4/Win2K support in Oracle Java Products

    Hello everyone, I would love to hear some discussion and maybe a solution for the following:
    I have been told by Oracle Support that Dev has not provided solutions for Java problems on the P4 chip and that there is currently no timeline. I suspect that Win2K support is also thin (none for ME apparently).
    My Problems:
    Installation and configuration of DB and OEM was a nightmare and still is not right. Required several patches and a dozen tweaks.
    When I run DBA Studio or OEM Console I have a few minutes and then my CPU utilization jumps to 100% and it's time to reboot or kill the Oracle service.
    jre.exe or java.exe are generating a lot of access violations and other crashes. For example I had to repoint all Apache HTTP Server java references to my SUN JDK as the java installed with it will not run right.
    Any ideas on getting this to work would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to throw away my new hardware and start over.
    Thank you for your thoughts.

    Hello,
    I finally get the scripts to run, I finally use sqlplus but I change the scripts without the 2 last line (commit and exit) and I do this directly in the sqlplus.

  • Database access from Oracle Java Cloud Service application

    I have registered for Oracle Java Cloud Service for trial period. I want to deploy a Spring MVC 3.2 and Hibernate 4.0 web application.
    I created a table in the Database Cloud. I am not sure how do I access the Database Cloud Service from my application.
    Need your guidance/pointers/references that can help me establish connection from my application to the database.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Use JPA - see the visitors example, it uses @PersistenceUnit injection with previously weaved .class entity files.
    You can use application managed EMF's and EntityManagers with code like the following - which is not preferable to using @PersistenceContext injection on an @Stateless session EJB but...
              EntityManagerFactory emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("JPAServletPU");
              EntityManager em = emf.createEntityManager();
              EntityTransaction transaction = null;
              try {
                   transaction = em.getTransaction();
                   transaction.begin();
                   Visitor entity = new Visitor();
                   entity.setName(name);
                   entity.setNum(num);
                   em.persist(entity);
                   transaction.commit();
                   System.out.println("Committing: " + entity);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              } finally {
                   em.close();
                   emf.close();
    Use a persistence.xml like the following
    <persistence version="2.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_2_0.xsd">
    <persistence-unit name="JPAServletPU" transaction-type="JTA">
    <provider>org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider</provider>
         <!--https://cloud.oracle.com/mycloud/f?p=5300:1000:259334829915901-->
    <jta-data-source>database</jta-data-source>
    <class>com.vision.cloud.jpa.Visitor</class>
    <exclude-unlisted-classes>false</exclude-unlisted-classes>
    <properties>
         <property name="eclipselink.target-database" value="Oracle10g" />
    <property name="eclipselink.ddl-generation" value="create-tables"/>
    <!-- property name="eclipselink.ddl-generation" value="drop-and-create-tables"/-->
    </properties>
    </persistence-unit>
    </persistence>

  • Oracle Gateway Products

    Hi All
    We have EBS R12.1.3 instance, now we need to create a database link to flow the data from sql server to oracle.
    We have referred "Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products [ID 1083703.1]".
    IN documnet mentiones gateway for sql server is "Microsoft SQL*Server - Database Gateway for SQL*Server (DG4Msql)"
    for Terradata "Teradata - Database Gateway for Teradata (DG4Teradata)".
    Is this gateways are free ware or we need to bought license from oracle.
    Thanks in Advance
    Shaik

    as per Options for Connecting to Foreign Data Stores and Non-Oracle Databases - For Example - DB2, SQL*Server, Sybase, Informix, Teradata, MySQL [ID 233876.1]
    this documnet dg4odbc is free ware to access data from terradata and sql server to oracle database.That's correct, the DG4ODBC license is already covered by the enterprise edition license. However, it is always recommended to contact your Oracle Sales representative for license questions/queries.
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/pricing/index.html
    By the way, if you need to connect to SQL Server, I believe you still need to get an ODBC driver (which needs to be purchased separately, unless you go with an open source).
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Was asked to install Oracle Java 8 and now after LibreOffice asked for Apple Java 6

    Hello,
    a few weeks ago I was told by a webpage I need java, it was a movie site, so I was doubting it and so I went to the oracle page via google search and found Java 8 (jre 8u40-macosx-x64).
    Today I installed LibreOffice and after first opening ittold me, that I need Java 6 and asked, if I want to search for it. I let it search. There was not the usual browser window -like thing (which I guess is the App-store, where I am offered to upgrade to 10.10 for free and told that there are 4 incompatible updates for iLife products available). Instead it was just a small progress-bar window that had the title "apple software update" (or similar).
    I then quit it, because it was not making progress.
    Now I close LibreOffice and then thought "well lets install Java 6", but this time I was not asked to install it. Also "apple software update" doesn't offer it, when I launch the blue "A"-icon (i.e. Appstore?).
    What do I need? Should I delete Java 8? How do I get Java 6?
    I found this, but it doesn't help me: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/webnotes/install/mac/mac-preferences.html and Apple Java Vs Oracle Java? Do I need both?
    THANKS!!!
    Machine: Mac Mini 2012, 10.9.5

    Thank you! In the meantime I found that item labeled as "2014-001" on the apple.support page.
    It mentions that it will remove all Java web applet and that there was a certain button one has to push to install it. I don't find the button "missing plugin" (well maybe that will come once it is needed?)
    Can Apple J6 and Oracle J8 coexist?
    From the fact that apple's J misses the web applet, I guess they will complement each other right?
    Also, am I right, that, if I go to Safari/Firefox -> Security I can disable Java for web stuff (but it will be still intact for Java applications like LibreOffice) and once I will encounter a webpage that wants Java, I will be told and can activate it in Safari/Firefox -> Security ? (Since I guess it is better to disable Java on the web???)
    Will the web sites always tell me, if they need Java or will pages not work and I will wonder why?

  • What is the support status for Oracle Documentation delivered as part of a product

    Is documentation considered to be part of the deliverables you pay support for,  and if so can SR's be raised against it?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Oracle's strategic direction is based around Java/SOA/ADF - this is the technology on which Oracle's future business applications, Fusion, are built. However, if Forms is still meeting your needs then there is no reason to move off of it.
    We've hopefully made this clear in our tools statement of direction (on otn.oracle.com/products/forms).
    If you have further questions after reading the statement of direction please let me know.

  • [Solved] How to use Oracle Java 6 for specific applications

    I use an IDE called PyCharm. On its download page, it recommends using Java 6 instead of OpenJDK. I currently have jdk7-openjdk installed, and from what I had read in the Arch Wiki on Java, it should be possible to install Oracle Java 6 along side OpenJDK 7.
    However, after installing jdk6-compat and jre6-compat, I still see that I am running OpenJDK 7 when I run the following:
    % java -version
    java version "1.7.0_09"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea7 2.3.3) (ArchLinux build 7.u9_2.3.3-1-x86_64)
    OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.2-b09, mixed mode)
    ...even after I have set JAVA_HOME and added /opt/java6/bin to my path.
    How can I get PyCharm (or other applications) to use Oracle Java 6 instead of OpenJDK?
    Thanks, and apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.
    Other information that might be helpful:
    Running zsh as default shell
    Using Gnome 3 as DE

    I found the solution.
    For Pycharm, I just needed to add an environment variable PYCHARM_JDK. For running specific applications, I asked this question on the Unix / Linux StackExchange and got an answer there.
    Also, after running PyCharm in Java 6... I would not recommend it. OpenJDK works fine
