Vote in The Race to Infinity

Is there any need to have a competition just so a very small % are going to win.looking at my area we have a total of 310 votes for a population of about 100.000 and Fibre here is limited again to the select few.
Does a population of 100.000 not count anyway in getting fibre.
Its all very welll boasting about having 40-100mb connections  but what about the customers like me cant even get 3mb on a upto 20mb connection.

the UK are well behind most of europe when it comes to BB speed, i game online and alot of our clan members are across the sea. They are always rubbing it in that their internet speeds are loads better than ours, although Virgin cable users dont suffer the same as phoneline customers in the UK. BT are all about money, wait til they publish their end of year proffits. I bet they are massive, so why not put some cash back into there service? Its kind of a monopoly a bit like the BBC and the TV license, you have to have it and they know it. Come on BT pull your finger out, your service is outdated and falling apart. Dont patronise us with "its a competition vote for fibre optic" just sort out the **bleep** preastoric network

  • What was the point of the race to infinity???

Why did BT bother with the race to infinity when exchanges that placed near the top will never see infinity, yet exchanges of a similar size that placed near the bottom are getting upgraded within the next few months.  It was just a cheap trick to get peoples hopes up when they had no intention of listening to what people wanted.

So what about other exchanges that placed in the top 50?  My exchange was up there yet I have been told I will never see a fast speed, yet a similar sized exchange that only got 81 votes in the race is due to be upgraded.  How does that work?
Are you talking about your exchange or your local cabinet

  • Race to Infinity...

Have a read into this wrongly?
Basically all people need to do is sign up to the race to infinity website and the top 5 will be bumped to the top of BT's upgrade list....
The issue I see is its not really worth bothering to do.
My exchange is showing as having 20,841 connections, at the moment 169 out of the 20,841 have voted for it which gives Weymouth a total of 0.81% !
BathEaston exchange has 2436 connections, of which they currently have 98 votes giving them a total of 4.02%
Batheaston is just an example, but if you live in an area that has a relatively low amount of connections, it is far easier to get people to vote, my point being that large towns with large amounts of connections stand no chance at all.
But maybe that's just me and my half empty glass talking

mine should of gone in April. then it got delayed to September 31st, and as that does not exist, they have shifted it til 31st december 2010. the infinity box is at the bottom of my road, and has a newly tarmac'ed track to it, so there is always hope.
just gone through to vote, which says i already have infinity. on going to the infinity page, the give me a date of 29th October 2010 - or tomorrow
i am aready registered, but have yet to have a confirmation email.
i hop tomorrow comes tomorrow ...................
welcome to the world of last wednesday week.

  • Race to Infinity: Results cast on Percentage and n...

Beginning to think this was a poor thought out incentive from the start.
From what i've read it works out the winners will be the top 5 areas with the most percentage, our area has 15k-16k people, we have roughly 16% of people voted, looking at the top areas they have mostly 1200-1500 people and have 60-80%..
It would appear that the areas with fewer people are destined to win this..kinda sucks as we are not even penned in for Infinity and god only knows when we'll get it.
They could've split it into groups i.e depending on the number of people that live within each area, i.e 1000 - 5000. 5000 - 10000...-10000 - 15000  that way at least areas with large amount of people would stand a chance of getting a slot...

The race to infinity was just a cheap publicity stunt designed to get peoples hopes up.  My exchange came 35th in the race (out of 5600 so top 1%) yet we will never see anything faster than 0.25Mbps with BT.  They just ran the race as a 'look at what we are giving to those that don't need it' just to rub our noses in it.  I hope that after BT do all the work on these exchanges that showed no interest, that the people use other services such as TT fibre or virgin media for a faster speed at a lower price.  My area on the other hand has no access to VM so BT could have got 100% of the customers if they had listened to the results, but it seems they would rather give it to people that can already get 20Mbps for a fraction of the price.  Maybe that is why uptake is only 15% in these areas.  you have made a big mistake BT and it is the customers that are paying for it.  Atleast Ian Livingston got his exchange done first though, nothing like being CEO of a company and using customers money to give yourself a better product first is there.

I am facing many issues installing the RAC 11g database with openfiler and filesystem ocfs2 and ASM
plz plz help me out from this issue i was struggling with this from couple of days
1)i have succesfully installed EL 5 on 2 nodes and openfiler in a node
and by the way i am using the hunter document as my guide installed the above mentioned as per the doc at http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/hunter_rac11gr1_iscsi.html
2)i have succesfully done the logical partitions of the openfiler external harddisk which even showed me the partitions as example
    Disk /dev/dm-2: 38.8 GB, 38822477824 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4719 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk /dev/dm-2 doesn't contain a valid partition table
    3) The issue is tht when i want to configure the iscsi volumes from the RAC node prior to that i must issue a command to discover them from my rac node with the command
iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p openfiler1-priv(which should show me the volumes but it isnt)
4)And that when i do a service open-iscsi restart from openfiler system i am getting as

  • Need to shutdown GG process if 1 node of the RAC is shutdown?

if only 1 node of the 2-node RAC cluster is shutdown, Does GG have to come down as well or can it run against the 1 node that is up.
    Thanks

Apologize for wrong answer to this post, due to site network issues wrong page was opened, hence wrong answer was posted earlier.
    Hi,
If one of the node is down, OGG Extract also breaks down as it is unable to process that particular redo thread. As you are aware, in a RAC environment, the Extract process uses threads, one for each redo thread in the RAC cluster.
Hence the only way to restart the Extract is to exclude the node(redo thread) by using THREADOPTIONS PROCESSTHREADS EXCEPT <thread spec>.
    Example: THREADOPTIONS PROCESSTHREADS EXCEPT 2
Extract threads are mapped to redo threads, so while excluding the thread please verify the mapping correctly and exclude the right thread.
    SQL> select distinct THREAD# from gv$log;
Caution: Excluding any of the Extract threads from being processed excludes that data from being synchronized with the target tables.
Once the node is back online, you could comment out the above parameter in the Extract parameter file and restart the Extract to process all the redo threads in RAC.
    Hope this information helps.
    Thanks & Regards
    SK

  • How can i do the RAC with Oracle 9i ?

How can i do the RAC with Oracle 9i ?
The Oracle 9i has a RAC(Real Application Cluster)module , please who can tell me how can i let it working .
    Which hardware the RAC need's
    Thank All ,

That is right you need atleast 2 boxes. The two servers will use the same hard disks.
The concept is an extension of OPS(Oracle Parallel Server).
Basically, you install Oracle Server Software on both the boxes, One database will be shared by both the servers. You can access your database through the Server1 or Server2. If Server1 fails then the Server2 will take over all the connections. You can add or remove any servers to and from the cluster any time you want with out impacting your production.
    They share load, reliable, scalable....

  • How to QA the RAC setup

    hi ,
    EBS R12.1 + RAC
    OEL 5.4
We have just outsourced(thru Oracle local support) the installation/migration/conversion of our EBS R12.1 from single node to RAC.
    The setup/config is:
apps tier is on node1(apps2), and
the db tier (RAC) in on node2(rdbms1) and node3(rdbms2).
The support followed note 466649.1 in configuring/upgrading/migrating the EBS to RAC.
After that they showed to us that RAC was successfully configured, and also the PCP (parallel concurrent processing). The EBS apps is also running successfully connecting to the RAC db tier. The showed to us the apps "dashboard" that confirms everything set-up. This is the screen shot of the dashboard.
    http://rapidshare.com/files/419559694/RAC_setup.JPG
    Applications System Status
Host      Platform           Host Status      Admin      Database      Concurrent Processing      Forms      Web
APPS2      Linux x86-64 (64-bit)      check          check     blank          check               check     check
RDBMS1      Linux x86-64 (64-bit)      check          check     check          check               check     check
RDBMS2      Linux x86-64 (64-bit)      check          check     check          check               check     checkWe are left to test and do some maintaining of the systems.
My question is, (since we do not have the capacity to QA the setup or validate, because we do not have experience on RAC).
Is the output of the dashboard correct?
What are the list of things to do or check when you maintain a RAC EBS SYSTEM?
    Thanks a lot,

  • How to list the rac databases on unix terminal

Hi guys, I am trying to find out how to list all the rac databases on the unix terminal.
the following command gives the list of all the databases running on a server
    *'ps -ef |grep smon | awk '{print $8}' | awk -F"_" '{print $3}''*
of those databases i am trying to find the all the databases which are rac enabled.
I tried srvctl status database -d 'database name'
but with that i could find info on only one database at a time. So I am looking for a single command that lists out all the rac databases at a single go.
can someone please help me figure out that command
    Thank You

    Try:
    srvctl config database

  • Could not connect to the RAC node

    Dear all,
I've setup an Oracle RAC on 2 nodes(Windows Server 2008) with iSCSI as storage. Currently I'm trying to verify the availibility of RAC using the following situation: Reboot the first node and and at the same time connect to the RAC using the VIP of that node. But I get the following error.
"The Network Adapter could not establish the connection"
My assumption is that the connection request'll be redirected to the 2nd node. But that doesnot happen. Could you please explain the situation.
    Regards
    KRA

    Dear Uwe Hesse,
Have you configured connect time failover in your tnsnames.ora?
Else the error is to be expected.
Show us the tnsnames.ora part for the connect descriptor you use for the connect, please! This is the connection descriptor used for testing failover :
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
         (failover = on)
         (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = RAC1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
         (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.domain_name)
         (FAILOVER_MODE = (TYPE = SELECT)(METHOD = BASIC)(RETRIES = 180)(DELAY = 5))
And that for evaluating performance of RAC is
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =
    (load_balance = on)
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = RAC1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
         (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = RAC2-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = orcl.domain_name)

How to find which instance in the RAC cluster the application is connected to ?
    Raees

well if you know the user through which your application is connected to instance, you can easily find out by querying gv$session view.
    select inst_id,sid,serial#,program,username from gv$session where username is not null;

  • Homehub 5 work with Copper to the cabinet BT Infin...

So after many long arguments and technical troubleshooting with bt support, they offered to send me a free of charge Homehub 5  to upgrade my Homehub 4 in a hope to improve my pings ( for online gaming). I was set to quit bt there and then and this was a last resort.
Anyway 5 days later and low and behold I open the box after delivery and there sits a new Homhub 4, not a homehub 5.
I phone up to complain and I am met with questions like " Who authorised saying you would recieve a homehub 5 free", "Why did you get an upgrade for free , what was the fault" etc etc.
The woman goes off and checks the logs and comes back and says we can see you were offered the homehub 5 but unfortunately it will not work with Copper to the cabinet BT Infinity packages, only Fibe to the cabinet FTTC packages.
Is there any truth in this or was she just fobbing me off?
The bt websites and tech pages seem to say it is offered to ALL new BT Inifnity Fibre packages, no mention of if you have copper or fibre to the cabinet?

Yeah cheers I thought as much.
This really is the icing on the cake after all the troubles I have had but fully expected from BT customer support. Im going to ring up again with same problem  and see if they tell me the same thing. If they do ask for the agents name and number and a call reference with her telling me that

  • What are the RAC DBA daily tasks?

    Hello Experts,
What are the RAC DBA daily(routine) tasks?
    Thank you.

    Hi Friend,
    Good Query..
    1. Make sure that all database instances are available.
Log into each instance and run daily
    2. Checking CRS status
    bash-3.00$ ./crs_stat -t
    3. Checking Volumes Informations in each instances.
    bash-3.00$ df –h
    4. Verify success of database backup:
         a. RMAN backup/Data Pump Backup/Cold backup
    5. Check the Archive Log file locations in each instance
    6. Check the Archive Log file location volume sizes in each instance
    7. Check Alert Log files (Any ORA_600, oRA_07445 etc..) in each instance
    8. Check the Statspack / AWR Report Peak hour reports
    9. Check the ASM INSTANCE status in each instance
    10. Check disk groups space and limitation
    11. Always use EM and ADDM reports for performance health checks and analysis
    12. verify the DR sync (if applicable):
    13. If DR site is available :
    a. Check to determine if latest archive logs have been applied to the database by looking at the alert
log file for the standby(DR) database.
    14. Review contention for CPU, memory, network or disk resources:
    a. Work with system administrators to develop methods to review contention for these resources.
    15. Maintain Complete Database Details (Data Files locations, Control file locations, Redo Log file Locations etc...)
    a. If any changes in production database or DR-Site database update manuals.
    16. Check OCR and VD backup locations. (If possible take manually OCR and VD backup)
    17. Check CRS logs in each instance
    18. Check Listener Logs in each instance
    19. If you are using RMAN backup, Use both the instances while taking RMAN backup (Multiple Channel allocations in Instances)
    20. Weekly restore the RAC backup in Single Instance Database (If RAC setup is not available)
    Hope it helps....
    Thanks
