Voting disk issue in Windows 2003 server
I installed oracle RAC 10g with ASM on windows server 2003 R2. I was able to successfully install clusterware as well as ASM with database. Prior to the install, I ran diskpart and then set automount enable. I was able to configure the ocr, ocrmirror and votedisk without any problem. After completion of the installation and then restarting both the nodes, looking at the Disk Management from the Computer Management, my first node is showing the partition for votedisk as raw disk but on the second node, I am seeing drive letters configured for the votedisks. I ran crsctl query css votedisk on both the nodes and both the nodes are pointing to the same location, \\.\votedsk1, \\.\votedsk2 and \\.\votedsk3.
Now my question is why am I seeing the drive letter(s) (G:) for the drives that were configured to votedsk from the second node and not seeing the drive letters from the first node?
Can I change the drive letter that were configured for voting disks from the second node?
I did take a backup of the votedsk using ocopy, but can this be a valid backup if I clear the drive letter on second node and then restore from the backup? I appreciate any help to correct this problem. Thanks
I can perform delete and add another voting disk, But what about the drive letter that is showing on the second node and not on the first? Do I need to remove the drive letter showing on node 2 while the voting disk is still showing up prior to performing the delete and add of another voting disk? Thanks for your help.

Has anyone managed to get a 3TB dynamic disk on Windows 2003 Server?
I just got a pair of new 3TB disks that I wanted to put on my Windows 2003 server enterprise x64 system, SP2, all updates installed.
When I first tried to convert to dynamic, I got the error "The operation did not complete" as described in this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826823
It says there is a patch, but there is not one for x64, just x86 and ia64
I found another technet discussion here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/cb62238c-b3d0-4989-b45a-ae6de6701a7b?stoAI=10
However its best suggestion is to use a product from AOMIE, but I tried that and it didn't even recognize the disk. It also suggests that one needs a better version of diskpart.exe and to try to the 32 bit version. Anyone have any experience
with that?
I also tried creating moving the disk to Windows 7 x64, making it dynamic there, but when I move the disk back to 2K3 it does not recognize it, and goes back to a 2TB partition. I also saw something about needing a 512 block size for 2K3, but W7 does
not allow anything smaller than 1K.Hi,
During my research, if found the following artcle which also mentioned a 3TB disk should be supported in Windows 2003 SP1:
Has anyone managed to get a 3TB dynamic disk on Windows 2003 Server?
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverfiles/thread/a720ae72-0c04-44dd-94c0-2e6aecce530e
So I contact the author about this issue. He said it could be caused if your hard disk is a 512e drive as the 3TB drives on the market today are normally 512e drives.
However manufacturers stopping identifying this, and if the controller is old, FSUtil will not able to identify a 512 drive but recognized it as a normal 512n drive.
Thus please provide the drive model so we could search on manufacturer's website for exact information.
Also please paste the screenshot in your reply which Satish mentioned if available.

Adding disk to existing disk group in ASM on the windows 2003 server.
Guys,
Can someone please share some opinions of adding an extra disk to an existing disk group ( DG_FRA ) in ASM on a windows 2003 server ( like any issues when bringing db backup ). This is a production database and I want to be careful , so that I don't have any issues with the database. Existing DG_FRA is 550GB ( size of the image copy is 325GB ),recently we have been running heavy loads and this is filling up the archive logs and forcing us to take incremental backups couple of times before deleting the archive logs. As a result of this we decided to add an extra 200GB so that we don't have to do this backups frequently during the day. Storage is on EMC SAN and the database is in 11G.
Thanks for all your help. There will not be any issues..
stamp the disk and then add the disk.
You can also follow this approach -
stamp the disk.
create a new group and then add a datafile in this new group for the existing tablespace. -
How to Install 64-bit "Generic / Text Only" print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server?
Hi All,
In a nutshell, I need to Install the 64-bit Generic / Text Only print driver on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server’s “Generic / Text Only 32-bit print queue.
The problem is that there is no Driver-Disk to get the drivers. I’ve been able to isolate 14 files related to the 64 bit drivers from a Windows 7 x64 computer and copy them to a temp folder on the Windows 2003 x32 server. When I try to add the 64 bit driver
to the Windows 2003 x32 server, it wants a *.inf file, which I don’t have and can’t find.
Because Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP, my client is replacing all of their Point-of-Sale Windows XP x32 systems with Windows 7 x64. They use Terminal Services (Remote Desktop) to connect to a Windows 2003 x32 server to use the POS system. The
POS software redirects LPT1 back to the local Generic / Text Only printer. This works great for XP x32.
When we use the Terminal Services POS software on the new Windows 7 x64 system, none of the labels print out because it’s redirected in 32-bit back to the local Windows 7 x64 Generic / Text Only 64-bit printer.
This will be a huge issue for me if I can’t get this to work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions and help! -Robthose may be helpful...

Space Problem in G: - after NW2004s SR1 installation on Windows 2003 server
HI Friends,
I have installed NW2004s SR1 on Windows 2003 server with Oracle 10g database successfully. My server has sufficient harddisk space as follows.
C: 9.6GB
G: 24GB
H:64GB & I: 73GB.
RAM is 6GB
While installing NW2004s i have defined a paging size on C: 400MB-1600MB and
i have set the option as System Manageble on other drives G, H& I drives. I did not get any Swap space problem while installing.
During installation I have chosen G: drive to store MirrorlogA, MirrorlogB, Oraarch, OriglogA, OriglogB folders of Oracle for redolog archives,.Total size of all these folders is 17.4 GB
G: drive has one more folder Program files which is of 155KB and no other files exist in it.
But My system says that I am running out of Space on G: drive and free space available now is only 44MB.
My question is where has the rest 5GB of space gone? Is it consumed as a part of Paging file which i have set on this drive as System manageble??
I have set the same option on other drives too i..e H & I. But i am not facing any space issues for these drives.
What could be going wrong?? Please suggest me how to correct this
Thanks

Oracle 10G slow Performance on Windows 2003 Server
Hi there,
Looking for a little assistance in locating a bottleneck that's started to hit our system this week. It's really odd because it's been starting around 10am every morning this week.
today is the worst that I've seen it because it's almost brought the system to a halt.....
We're running Oracle 10.2.0.1 64b on Windows 2003 Server 64
The server has 16 processors and 64GB of RAM currently the CPU is sitting at 5% and the RAM usage is at 16.4GB
It's a blade server with a SAN backend and I'm assuming the latency is coming from the disk but I need to determine this for a fact.
I've only been a DBA for about a year and I'm stilling learing how to locate and identify issues. According to OEM I'm seeing
a ton of I/O from the users. So anyways, any help or insight would be much appreciated and a learning experience for me.
Thank you for your time and asistance.
SBThank you for the reply!
We've had finding one FOREVER, I can't resolve it and I've read somewhere to ignore because OEM is false reporting. I'm adjusting DB_Cache now...
Isn't possible that too much cache could be bad for the system and cause slow downs?

QT failed to initialize error -2096 & Windows 2003 Server
I have seen several posting regarding this, but all are related to ITunes. I have Quicktime 7.4.1 installed on a WTS Server and when I try to run it I get the 2096 error. Since 7.4.1 addresses security issues, reverting to a previous version is not an option. Does anyone know how to get Quicktime 7.4.1 to run on WTS running on a Windows 2003 server? The only other option I will have is to remove Quicktime completely. It worked fine prior to version 7.4. Thanks
( I had the same prob. this worked for me..Good luck...)
1.Quit iTunes.
2. Windows XP and Windows 2000: On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
-Windows Vista: On the Start menu, click Computer.
4. In My Computer, open the C:\ drive (or whichever disk your Windows XP is installed on).
5. Open the Program Files folder.
6. Open the iTunes folder.
7. Right-click on the iTunes application (iTunes or iTunes.exe) and from the shortcut menu, click Properties.
8. Click the Compatibility tab.
9. Deselect the checkbox under Compatibility mode if it's selected.
10. Click OK.
11. Open iTunes and play a song. -
Installing Windows 2003 Server
I'm attempting to install Windows 2003 server using the 875P Neo. The system boots from the CD and loads all of the Windows driver, however, when I get to the part where I have to format the HD, the system states that it's unable to format.
Do I have to pre-load any MSI driver during the boot installation? Like drivers to support the 875 chip set?
Thanks,
DavidOnce Windows loads, I get the following msg: "Setup cannot format the partition. Your computer may not have enough memory to perform this operation, or your Windows CD-ROM may contain some corrupted files."
I've tried this with several disks. It will work with my Windows XP disks.
Has anyone seen this problem? Is this a BIOS configuration issue?

Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit
Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
Regards
MatthiasHi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
Best regards

Crystal Ras 9 on Windows 2003 Server, IIS6.0, single threaded?
We have just migrated from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 Server over the weekend. We ran into an issue with Crystal Ras 9.0 where the server serving up reports slower that our previous box. We are using IIS 6.0 and .net 2.0 framework with 1.1 installed for backward compat on our some of our old legacy codes. From what our developers can tell, the issue seems to be Crystal Ras queuing up the request and process them one at a time. That didn't happen before the migration. In fact, we also saw it working in our test environment before the migration. Once the pool is filled no further reports are generated which causes all report to stop which also starts to hang our server. They symptoms is worst under heavy user load. We tested with 6 simultaneous users and all 6 are done at the same time no matter the size of the report. Even the one that fail with an error message came up at the exact same time.
Are there anyway we can adjust the IIS pools and or Crystal Ras to support additional threads? We are connecting to Windows 2008 SQL Server EE. Any suggestions and or help is appreciated. I cannot find any references that would help us diagnose this further.
Also, if you can also detail the cost to buying a phone case, that would be helpful as well.
Thanks
-atiwatSince you are not changing the version of RAS, I am not sure why the queuing would be different on different Operating Systems? You may want to check on how the queuing is setup on the WIN 200 server and duplicate that on the WIN 2003 server. Also, RAS has a limited number of licenses out of the box. Ensure that you are using the same license on both environments.
Re. phone support. You can obtain a phone case here:
http://store.businessobjects.com/store/bobjamer/DisplayProductByTypePage&parentCategoryID=&categoryID=11522300
However, please note that support of version 9 products terminated years ago, so you will not be able to get support for your version. To get phone support, you will have to upgrade to a supported version of RAS (XI r2 at minimum).
Ludek
BTW.; Windows 2008 SQL Server EE came way after RAS / CR 9 and has thus not been tested in this environment... -
Using Time Machine to back up to a Windows 2003 Server
I am trying to set up my Time Machine to back up to a windows 2003 server share. I have found some hacks on how to do so, however i am not successful.
What I have done so far:
TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 in terminal, which got TM to see my shared drives, however, when i try to backup to my specific drive it gives me an error of not being able to write disk image. So i did:
hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle
using the appropriate mac address, volume name, and OSX computer name. However, when i run that in terminal, it comes back with a message saying it can only create one volume at a time.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here, I feel so close, but im stuck.
Also, on another side note, If I get this working, I would like to find a way where when TM is backing up data, it does not pop up the work bar window, I would prefer if it just worked in the background, and show it's status in the menu. I dont know if this is possible, But any suggestions would be of help
Thanks in advance!AFreeman wrote:
Thanks for the response,
I understand the requirements for TM to work, and In the steps i've been trying, you'll see that the command 'hdiutil create -size 100g -fs HFS+J -volname “TimeMachine Hcomp” Hcomp_000045128a91.sparsebundle ' creates and HFS drive partition on my server share.
I guess i'm not looking for an answer as to why when i enter this command, I get a response of only one volume can be created at a time. Am I missing something in this command?
Thanks!
Since you are using a hack, and therefore in an unsupported area, I suppose anything possible.
You might browse around the TimeCapsule forum which more closely represents what you are doing than this forum
The TC forum is here:

It's possible that it may be a limitation of the system, hack or no hack. -
ORA-12546 error during installation of 9.2.0.1 on Windows 2003 Server
I have encountered an error whilst installing oracle 9.2.0.1 on a Windows 2003 Server. The error appears in the final part of the installation, when the Database Configuration Assistant is performing some work - it reaches the part where it creates the database instance - here we get the "ORA-12546: TNS Permission denied" error - this part of the installation is marked as failed - i can retry it as many times as i want but the same thing happens. If i finish the installation (even though the error has occurred) the oracle installation doesn't really work . I can't open the Database Configuration Assistant and don't really have a sysdba user. However all the services seem to be running fine (even the tns listener)
I was wondering whether it could be a problem that would be solved with the 9.2.0.3 patch - but this patch assumes that you have performed a proper working installation of 9.2.0.1, so I'm not quite convinced that the problem is related to the oracle version.
I've read other threads where the problem has been read/write privileges on some files and folders, but this shouldn't be an issue when I'm logged onto the machine as a local administrator.
The install.log files don't really provide any extra information.I have exactly the same problem installing Oracle on a Windows Server 2003 X64 Enterprise Edition. I have Intel Xeon processors (EM64T).
I tried to install Oracle for 64 bits, but it didn't work. Now I'm trying to install 32 bits version of Oracle, and I get the same error and the same problem, mentioned above.
Can anyone help us, I can't figure out a way to solve it. I don't know if Oracle for 32 bits is not compatible with that version of Windows, even if it is supposed to be.
Thanks!!!! -
Can't connect my Mac to my Windows 2003 server shares via SMB
Hello all
So my problem is I have my Powerbook running 10.4.7 with all the latest security updates and I cannot connect it to any shares on my Windows 2003 domain controller. Everything was working fine and I could connect to the server with no problem till about a month ago. However, I can still connect to the Windows 2000 domain controller with no problem. The error I get when trying to connect is "Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct". I did try clearing out my keychain, making sure all of the authentication policies on the server are correct (disabling the digitally sign commucations always policy), and I even went as far as editing a .conf file in /etc/ folder that allows for passwords to be sent without any encryption (I forget exactly what I changed but I can post that later when I get home from work) and none of this has worked. I unfortunately don't have another mac to test out connecting to the Windows 2003 server. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to try and get this issue resolved?TO share out as afp you need to have file and print services for macintosh installed on the 2k3 Server.
O n the main management console click on the shares icon on the left. then click the "link" create a share. The wizard will guide you through the process. i forget the order of progression but i beleive its the second or third part in the dialog it will have 2 check boxes, the top one checked by default, is to share it for windows/smb the second (lower box) is to share as AFP for mac check this box and change the share name if you like. then proceed through the rest of the wizard. Make sure you configure the security/sharing prefs for access.. we typically remove the everyone policy and add one for Authenitcated Users, and ofcourse Administrators. -
