Voyager 1055 USB Wireless adaptor problems

I have just had a new broadband installation, with a HH3. I am changing over from an old 8Mb broadband on a different line which has a Netgear router on it. I have 3 similar Compaq PCs, 3 Iphone/iPods, and a Mac, and connected my work laptop OK to the HH3.
The 3 PCs, 1 has a Netgear WG111v2 USP wireless adaptor which has connected OK to the HH3. The other 2 have BT Voyager 1055 USB adaptors, neither of which can see the HH3 but connect OK to the Netgear. The PC with the Netgear and one of the Voyagers are in the same room, about 4 feet apart, yet using inSSIDer2, I can see about a dozen wireless networks from all of mine and my neighbours connections, the PC 4 feet away can see only the Netgear and the Openzone from the HH3. I've switched off the Netgear, changed channels on both, reloaded drivers for the Voyager, and it makes no difference.
Is there an issue with the Voyager 1055 that stops it seeing some networks? I've tried everything I can think of, but my last ditch effort will be to switch the routers and put the Netgear on the new broadband. The old broadband will be ceased eventually.
Thanks

The Voyager 1055 is a bit dated now and was originally intended for use with the BT Voyager wireless routers.
There have not been any driver updates since it was first issued.
I have one, and it does not like WPA2 encryption or mixed b/g/n wireless speeds.
If you set the hub3 to use b/g only and WPA only, it should work.
I have TP-link wireless access point and I had to use those settings to allow the 1055 to connect.
In the end I stopped using the 1055 and used a TP-link TL-WN722N USB adapter, which also does wireless N and has an external detachable aerial.

  • Trouble installing USB wireless adaptor & Network settings.

We have a 17" iMac flat panel, 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. We just upgraded the memory to 1 GB. We're running 10.4.11
Dh wants to use his iPod Touch and share the internet connection with our G4. We purchased the following USB wireless adaptor by MAXPower:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP802NU2C/
We installed the software, but cannot figure out how to set it up from there.
Never mind that for now. Dh says he sees a second computer in the near future and thinks we need a proper wireless network.
I was going to uninstall the MAXPower software and I can't figure that out either. I found the Uninstall icon, but it is asking me for a password. @@
The thing that concerns me is when I go to System Preferences---> Network, a window pops down saying "Your Network Settings Have Been Changed By Another Application". When I click OK, the window goes up, then immediately comes back down. I can't close the window, or close System Preferences without Force Quitting.
Dh is voting for bagging the MAXPower, getting an Airport Extreme Card and an Airport Extreme Base Station.
I want to fix the glitch in Network.
    Ideas?

    hey there chelap,
had a similar problem w/ an iMac 800 MHz G4. it was caused by me switching a USB printer to an Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11g, from its port on the iMac-- iMac too old, it used 802.11 b. it changed "network settings". try d/c'ing the device & delete the software to see if this eliminates the annoying screen popping off/on.
i'm not familiar w/ this product you're trying to use but, in reading the product page it doesn't create a Wi-Fi network, it lets you use a Mac w/ out a Wi-Fi card to connect to a Wi-Fi network--this product isn't a Wi-Fi router which you need for what it sounds like you're trying to do. i agree w/ Dh about the AE card(can be found fairly lo-$$ on eBay & pretty simple to install), though this device may work once you have established a Wi-Fi network & the AEBS, even an Airport Express will work as a base station to create a Wi-Fi network. also sharing an internet connection isn't quite the same as having a local Wi-Fi network. having a local network provides more options like using the iPod Touch + the Remote app to control iTunes or Front Row(an app) should you run Mac OS X Leopard/Snow Leopard on this &/or a later model Mac(G5 or Intel) as well as stream audio/video, share other kinds of files to the 2nd Mac.
    good luck.

  • Belkin USB wireless adaptor drivers

Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the belkin usb wireless adaptor? The one listed on their website only works with OSX 10.3 and not 10.4 installed on this machine? do apple provide any third party drivers for this problem? The machine is out of its applecare period so I can't ask apple themselves.
    Thanks
    Jon

If Belkin doesn't have a driver compatible with 10.4 you're out of luck. Apple does not provide drivers for third party hardware.

  • USB Wireless Adaptor for eMac

I still have to check them out but I do not believe the eMacs in question have a built in wireless option. I am told they are running OS 10.3 and I was looking for recommendations on adding wireless to about 10 eMacs for a teacher that wants them networked but the classroom does not have any available network ports to even plug in a network switch too. USB wireless adaptor would be good unless I have to use an internal Airport card or something I guess that is fine.

Check out the eMac specifications, for example, here. Depending upon the model, you could install an AirPort or AirPort Extreme card. This is probably the easiest way. See also the KB articles HT1621 and HT3024.
You could per se try USB wireless adapters, but only if appropriate Mac drivers are available (if at all, usually only for Mac OS X 10.3 or higher).
Another solution could be wireless Ethernet bridge devices (also called gaming adapters). These units (such as Belkin F5D7330, D-Link DWL-G810, D-Link DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G, Linksys WGA600N and Netgear WGE111) do not require special drivers and can be used under almost any operating system. Not all models (or versions of a model) offer WPA security. You could connect a wireless Ethernet bridge directly to each computer (the Ethernet port). Alternatively, it ought to be possible to use wired Ethernet (via a switch) between the computers, and then one bridge device as a connection point to an existing wireless network.

  • I need USB wireless adaptor any suggestions?

I am connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, no wireless here. So I cannot use my iPad, can I use  a USB wireless adaptor? what type? any suggestions as all of the USB adaptors on the market seem to be for Windows. I am in Pune India, where can I buy a suitable adaptor?

    christopherfromqld wrote:
I am on a large ethernet network so a little worried about 'opening' it's internet connection, should I be?
Well, a USB wireless adapter would do the same thing as the link I provided. Basically, anyone within about 10 to 15 meters of your computer would be able to access the wireless network.
An Aiport Extreme base station would allow security options to restrict access to a specific devices, require passwords, encryption, etc. If this is a business environment the best thing to do would be to talk to the IT department for an official solution.

  • USB Wireless adaptor issues

I purchased an Asus USB-N13 wireless adaptor.  I'm running a PowerPC G5, 10.5.8.  I just ran Software update yesterday.
I installed the driver, that software says I'm connected to our wireless network with good strength.
I open Safari or Firefox, and those tell me "I'm not connected to the internet".
The aggravating thing is a guy from work took it home, installed it, and everything worked fine.
In Network Prefs, it sees the USB device, and all looks well.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

  • USB Wireless Adaptor

Hi, I need to have my wife's pc laptop (currently non-wireless enabled) join my macs' Time Capsuled Wireless network.
I assume all she needs in a usb wireless 802.1n adaptor? - if so, any recommendations?

    Hi,
The Time Capsule is "Interoperable with Wi-Fi Certified 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g and 802.11n draft 2.0 Mac computers, Windows-based PCs, and other Wi-Fi devices".
This means that almost any USB wireless adapter should be OK, providing that there is support for the computer and its operating system. It may be wise to ensure that the PC is equipped with USB 2.0 ports.
Depending upon the type of laptop, a CardBus or ExpressCard wireless adapter could possibly be an alternative.

  • Time Capsule and USB Wireless adaptor for PC

I can't seem to find a USB wireless adapter that I can use to connect my Windows XP desktop PC with my Time Capsule/Airport. I have a Notebook PC that I was able to connect with no problem using my existing wireless PC card. I have tried several USB adapters for my desktop, but nothing sees my network. I've also tried to update to the latest drivers for my adapters. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, any answers?

There is no difference between the TC and other routers as far as networking is concerned. It is fully compliant to the usual standards.
Your wireless USB network adapters should work just fine. A lot will depend on how you have your TC configured. If it is setup for 802.11n only, then if your USB adapters are 802.11b or g, they won't be able to see it. If you have the TC's SSID disabled, they won't be able to see it. If you are using WPA2 and the USB adapters only support WEP or WPA security, they won't work either.
You typically have to find the lowest common denominator and configure everything based on that.

    Oh, God! I'm so embarrassed!
After all these tries and installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, and doing the same thing over and over again, I discover that there is a switch for it. Sorry everybody, I have no excuse. Oh, I might have: I bought it only 5 days ago.
I thought that Maliha was talking about fn+F5, I didn't know that there was a real switch.

  • Wireless setting up Photosmart C310 series to Belkin Play usb wireless adaptor.

I am strugling to set up my printer to the Belking  adaptor. The printout shows that the SSID failed. Anyone able to help me please ?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Your printer can connect to your Orange Live Box wirelessly (or wired like your computer).   If your computer is connected to the Orange Live Box via Ethernet, your router will allow communication even though the printer is wireless and the computer is wired.
I don't think you need the USB card.  Just run the Wireless Setup WIzard from the front of the printer (Setup > Network area) to connect it wirelessly to your Orange Live Box, then download and run the software from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • Wireless adaptor problem?

    Hi
I have had infinity activated today.
Xbox x 2, wii, and laptop connect great no problem.
Laptop speedtest giving me between 12 and 20 mbps.
When I connect my pc via my TP-Link 54 mbs adaptor I struggle to get 1mbs.
I notice my bthub3 is 802.11n, my adaptor is 802.11b
Can my hub be changed to 802.11b?
Do you think that is what is causing my problem?
    help..please
    cheers

    Go to Solution.

You need wireless n to get the best speeds out of Infinity.
In THIS POST I wrote about the problems I was getting over wireless.-
"I have just had Infinity installed (one week birthday... lol)
Anyhow just to let you know some things I tried for a  similar (but not as slow) situation.-
1 year old  (windows 7 Netbook with it's internal wireless "n" card speed tests in the 30 to 37Mb range.
3 year old Vista laptop with internal wireless g tested  around 20Mb.
2 year old windows 7 laptop with internal wireless g tested around 20Mb.
Installed an Edimax wireless adapter in.-
3 year old Vista laptop, turned the internal wireless off and now speed tests  in the 30 to 37Mb range.
2 year old windows 7 laptop, turned the internal wireless off and still speed tests  around 20Mb!!!!!
Tried a D-Link 140 adapter with the same result.
Further investigation by going into the Laptop's "Network and sharing centre" and then clicking on "wireless network connection" showed in the "General" information that the speed was only 54Mbps. THe same speed when it was using it's internal wireless g.
(The Netbook shows 72Mbps and the upgraded Vista laptop 65Mbps).
So still having a wireless card/adapter speed of 54Mbps meant I could not achieve the full Infinity speed.
Lots of mucking around downloading driver updates and swapping types of wireless adapters didn't cure the problem.... but I have found a work around.
The Edimax allows me to turn the wireless off and on with a click of the mouse.
So if I click the wireless of and on two or three times, maybe a max of five times, eventually it comes up with a speed of 65Mbps and stays on that speed setting constantly, allowing me to work wirelessly at the full 35Mbps Infinity speed. (If laptop is set to sleep or turned off then when it is bought back on I then have to switch the wireless a few times again)."

  • Anyone know a USB wireless adaptor compatible with 10.5.2?

I have a Belkin F5D7050 adaptor, got all sorts of issues with it, I've set my mac up on the net and a wireless network through it, using a Ralink driver, it works but every so often the mac crashes.
So, need a new adaptor or better drivers! Had a search around but can't find much. Any suggestions?
    Much appreciated.
    Alex

To expand, Airport is a Mac OS X structure, Apple normally rename boring tech to something more cool e.g
    Airport = 802.11b
    Airport Extreme = 802.11g
However, with that in mind Apple do write their own drivers to support chipsets they actually use, hence my recommendation of a BroadCom equipped card.
As for installation, simply open your case, remove one of the blanking plates on the PCI slots (one screw), push the new card in and then the screw can go back. Close the Mac, start up and it should be seen automatically.
Refer to your manual for location of the PCI slots.

  • USB wireless adaptor DNW with SL?

Hola. I have an Edimax EW-7811un wireless USB dongle that I am trying to get hooked up in Mac Mini 1.66ghz with 10.6.8 SL. According to their specs and tech support, it is supposed to be compatible with Mac. per their tech support instructions, I have installed the recommended driver. I do not believe that the unit recognizes the device when I plug it in, as nothing happens. I did confirm that it works on Windows XP unit, so guessing the dongle itself is not defective. The other USB ports on the mini are fine. The built-in wifi is not 802.11N so I thought this was best solution to spending big $$ to upgrade.
Is there any work around to get this device lit? or does anyone have other brand/model suggestion?
    Thanks!

I am able to pull 11-15 mbps with the mini in same room as my router, but the test graph on speedtest.net certainly shows a lot of spikes and dips. There does not seem to be too much of a diff between the internal b/g card and the N USB device. One would guess that 11-15 mbps would be plenty adequate to stream Netflix right? Video is very, very chunky (on FF + Safari, which are recommended Netflix browsers).
Just to reiterate, I am running a brand new SL install 10.6.8 and have done all updates (except iTunes). I have installed 2gb RAM (max for this unit). There are no other pgms installed or running. Even when connected direct with ethernet cable, netflix is still unwatchable.
Sooo... I am guessing that this issue is not caused by the wireless connectivity, which was my initial challenge here. Are there any settings to (re)configure the RAM (which I installed at same time as new OS), or somehow alter the cache to make streaming run better?
    Many thanks!
