VPLS multihoming

Dears,
I would like to know If VPLS multihoming redundancy feature is avilable at Cisco or not ?
have a CE connected to two different PEs for redundancy. PEs are configured in a VPLS mode. At steady state only primary PE should carry traffic ... xSTP should not be configured due to its slow convergence compared with VPLS
This feature "VPLS Multihoming with BGP Signaling" is availabe at Juniper and I want to implement at Cisco http://www.netscreen.at/techpubs/en_US/junos10.4/topics/task/configuration/vpls-multihoming-bgp-signaling-solutions.html
Appreicate your assistance
Many Thanks

  • MC-LAG feature on IOS XE and VPLS Multihoming with BGP Signalling

    Hi,
    Is MC-LAG feature available on IOS-XE platforms (ASR1013)?
    Is VPLS Multihoming the same as MC-LAG, or just similar (what are the differences)?
    What is the use of BGP signalling? Can i use it with LDP/RSVP signalling at the same time?
    Thanks!
    Sonny

    Hi Sonny
    Hope below would be helpful
    Is MC-LAG available on ASR ?
    According to Navigator feature, No
    Is VPLS multihoming same as MC-LAG ?
    As I understand VPLS Multihoming can be achieved with either MC-LAG or through BGP signalling however seems that with BGP its not supported yet
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2115232
    What is the use of BGP signalling ?
    VPLS can be configured in 2 ways either manually or in autodiscovery mode
    With manual configuration you have to define manually your neighbors and in this case signalling would be LDP
    With autodiscovery neighbors are automitcally discovered and in this case signalling would be either BGP or LDP

  • Spanning packets and VPLS

    Hi,
    I am bit confused whether spanning tree packets uses the native vlan (ie 1) or goes as untagged ? If it is untagged, how can associated the spanning tree to the VPLS considering that I am using lots of sub-interfaces considering I am using MSTP.  I need the spanning tree to flip over the BGP based multihome VPLS.
    regards,
    Skanda

    Hi Skanda,
    BPDU handling in VPLS environment is not that straighforwared as customer STP is transparent to the SP. Customer BPDUs are dropped or forwarded transparently depending on the configuration.
    In general the default behavior is:
    UNI is dot1q tunnel port
    By default, customer BPDU will be dropped. With L2PT configuration, STP BPDU, CDP and VTP packets can be  tunneled through
    UNI is dot1q trunk port
    By default, customer STP will interact with SP STP. In order to tunnel customer STP BPDU, STP must be disabled for that customer VLAN on SP switch. Recommend to config “spanning-tree bpdufilter enable” on SP switch.
    MST behaviour slightly differs from STP and RSTP; BPDUs for MST are carried untagged on the native VLAN. If you want to transport MST BPDUs over VPLS, you will need to QinQ all of the MST VLANs + the native VLAN through your VPLS SVI xconnect.

  • Forms 6.0.8 Multihomed?

    Current setup:
    - WinNT 4 SP5
    - Developer 6.0 installed first (DEFAULT_HOME)
    - Oracle 8.1.5 installed into it's own home
    - OAS 4.0.8.1 installed into it's own home
    I do not want to upgrade my Dev 6.0 - I would prefer to just install the beta Forms 6.0.8 into it's own home so I can test it separately.
    The Reports 6i Release Notes state in section 2.1 that "Developer 6i must be installed into the default home". Section 2.4.1 goes on to state that "Developer 6.0 and 6i CANNOT co-exist in the same $ORACLE_HOME".
    I spoke with Tech support a couple of weeks back and they led me to believe that Dev6i is multihomed. Are the Release Notes correct? Do I HAVE to install Dev6i into the default $ORACLE_HOME?
    Thanx - any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Forms 6i is Forms 6.0.8 and is web enabled.

  • Performance end to end testing and comparison between MPLS VPN and VPLS VPN

    Hi,
    I am student of MSc Network Security and as for my project which is " Comparison between MPLS L3 VPN and VPLS VPN, performance monitoring by end to end testing " I have heard a lot of buzz about VPLS as becoming NGN, I wanted to exppore that and produce a comparison report of which technology is better. To accomplish this I am using GNS3, with respect to the MPLS L3 VPN lab setup that is not a problem but I am stuck at the VPLS part how to setup that ? I have searched but unable to find any cost effective mean, even it is not possible in the university lab as we dont have 7600 series
    I would appreciate any support, guidence, advice.
    Thanks
    Shahbaz

    Hi Shahbaz,
    I am not completely sure I understand your request.
    MPLS VPN and VPLS are 2 technologies meant to address to different needs, L3 VPN as opposed as L2 VPN. Not completely sure how you would compare them in terms of performance. Would you compare the performance of a F1 racing car with a Rally racing car?
    From the ISP point of view there is little difference (if we don't want to consider the specific inherent peculiarities of each technology) , as in the very basic scenarios we can boil down to the following basic operations for both:
    Ingress PE impose 2 labels (at least)
    Core Ps swap top most MPLS label
    Egress PE removes last label exposing underlying packet or frame.
    So whether the LSRs deal with underlying L2 frames or L3 IP packets there is no real difference in terms of performance (actually the P routers don't even notice any difference).
    About simulators, I am not aware of anyone able to simulate a L2 VPN (AtoM or VPLS).

  • Multihomed network configuration

    So, when I say multihomed what I really mean is that Macbook Air is configured to use two network interfaces -- Wi-Fi and USB ethernet -- in one Location. Each interface is configured to work on a different subnet. In fact, wi-fi is assigned a public IP address of 195.88.xxx.xxx, and USB ethernet NIC a private address of 192.168.0.252/24. Wi-Fi is en0, and USB ethernet is en2. Both interfaces are in active state.
    My goal is to have MBA to route all traffic to en0, except for 192.168.0.0/24 network which I want to go via en2, the USB ethernet card.
    The topology is pretty simple:
    Linux Laptop <--- Linksys Cisco Router <---   en2 via <---  MBA ---> via en0   ---> Linksys Cisco Router ---> <Internet>
    Essentially, I need to put en2 on the ethernet segment where the Linux laptop is to be able to talk to it directly. No routing needed. This apporach works without any problems in Linux environment. However, on Mac OS X it doesn't work and it makes me wonder why.
    A few details on what happens on the network:
    tcpdump output from Linux machine (it is assigned 192.168.0.253/24):

    and this is tcpdump output from Macbook Air:
    13:08:17.473933 ARP, Request who-has 192.168.0.253 tell 192.168.0.252, length 28

    13:08:21.477168 ARP, Request who-has 192.168.0.253 tell 192.168.0.252, length 28
    I tried Service Reorder (in System Settings->Network) and set en2 as the first device on the list, or one position behind en0. It doesn't change anything.
    My question is similar to these discussions:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2297388?start=0&tstart=0
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/9984744?messageID=9984744#9984744?messageI D=9984744
    and in one of them it is implied that no extra configuration should be made beyond what I've already done, but clearly Mac OS X doesn't see ARP request reply from the Linux machine.
    BTW, firewalls are down on both systems.
    I also found this network configuration manual for Princeton University campus network
    http://www.net.princeton.edu/mac/network-config-x-10.8/caveats.html#ip-weakend
    that claims that Mac OS X actually cannot do what I'm attempting to and refers to Weak End System Model which in essence is described in RFC4907 as:
    In the Weak End System model, addresses refer to a host.  As a
            result, packets sent on an outgoing interface need not
            necessarily have a source address configured on that interface,
            and incoming packets whose destination address does not
            correspond to the physical interface through which it is
            received are accepted.
    That could explain why ARP request reply never makes it back to Mac OS X.
    So, any ideas? Any tips?
    I'd highly appreciate help of the community because I'm stuck

    I dont have a PSC2210 but one of the documents I saw said to go to the front panel of the printer, press the Setup button, press 6 and then press 1 to print the Network Configuration page.

  • Won't work with Sony VPL-PX20 projector

    When starting up while connected to the projector the initial gray screen displays and the projector shows input, but as soon as it switches to the background picture during start-up the projector display goes black and displays "No Input".
    I've tried this with two different 15.2" Al PBs and the same thing happens, or doesn't happen as the case may be. (c;
    I've test these two Al PBs with our three other projectors which are older Epson and InFocus models and they work fine. I've also tested the Sony VPL-PX20 projector with various other non-DVI Ti PBs and a Dell laptop and the projector again works as it should.
    I know if I call Sony looking for support they will say it's an Apple problem and if I call Apple they'll say it's a Sony problem. The thing that makes me suspect it's an Apple problem is that this problem only presents itself on two similar PowerBooks that only really differ in age – one is new and the other is 8 months old. The projector works with other PBs, a desktop, a TV tuner and a DVD player with no problems.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be or how I might go about resolving it?
    Thanks. Chris

    Hi Kevin,
    Two suggestions:
    Make sure that the camcorder is connected to a power outlet, not running just on battery power;
    As alluded to by thesurreyfriends, try a different FireWire cable. If you have a Rocketfish cable, it has been known to cause problems. I have a Belkin 9 pin to 4 pin (FW 800/400) which works perfectly with iMovie '11, using my older Sony DCR-TRV20E.

    EDIT: I don't have a Thunderbolt port on my earlier model MacBook Pro, so my situation is different to yours.

    I'm no longer able to use the projector VPL-ES4 with win7, he accuses error frequency.
    Working at a university here in Brazil Unicamp.
    Here we have several projectors model VPL-ES4, we were using this projector with win7 however a few days they all stopped to show the image of computers accusing problem in frequency, we made all the alternatives so that One can be reestablished TRANSMISSION signal however all were in vain, reading in many forums found equal to our cases and the solution presented was to use a computer with win98 and it really worked, but with the end of support for this version of the system we are failing to use it, I wonder how we can solve this problem and why even this ocrrendo.

    Yes. NVIDIA+CRT+VGA cable = bad EDID.
    Here's what you can do. Fully remove the xorg.conf file. Regenerate them using nvidia-xconfig, Open the nvidia's GUI as root and just click "Save configuration", or something among those lines. Google your monitor's manual and find the RIGHT vertical and horizontal sync frequency ranges. After setting them in your xorg.conf log-out and log-in again. Go to the nvidia settings gui, you should be able to use a higher resolution.
    I've tried this a few times, but always end up with a "Signal out of range".  I think the trick is finding the correct ranges.  My monitor is a Soyo Topaz S 24", and I can't find any official manual or specs online.  What I have found is this:
    http://www.thinkcomputers.org/old/index … ews&id=733
    That review indicates:
    Frequency: Fh: 30 kHz - 80 kHz; Fv: 50 Hz - 75 Hz
    So I set:
    HorizSync 30-80
    VertRefresh 50-75
    Signal out of range, which is annoying because in order to fix it I either have to reboot using a live CD, mount the drive, or ssh into it.  Whoever started the trend of disabling ctl alt backspace to kill an xsession is not my friend...
    Some other forum posts about this monitor indicate that there may have been two variants, but I can't find a different set of specs.

  • Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW10 Projector

    My Sony BRAVIA VPL-AW10 makes this annoying buzzing noise when I try to turn it on, while the green power indicator light just flashes.  After the light flashes and the buzzing noise stops the green light turns to red but also the lamp/cover red light flashes continuously for a long period of time.  It does this everytime I try to turn it on.  I've had the projector for at least two years.  Any suggestions?

    It might be time to change your bulb.
    In the back of your owner's manual it should give a list of what the color and blinking of the lights means..
    i.e- blinking red 5 times means bulb needs replacing etc (that's just an example)
    I tried to write my signature here, but now I can't get the ink off my TV..

    Hi,
    VPLS provides the medium to for a E-LAN, and in Cisco implementations, the MAC learning is not actually done by a VPLS instance.
    This can be best explained by an example.
    PE(SW)-A ---- PE(SW)-B
    PE(SW)-C
    Now these three PE nodes under VPLS, are only provided the medium to connect to each other using P2P PW forming a full mesh.
    For simplicity you can assume they are three switches connected in the above manner using copper. So this copper connecitivity is provided by VPLS.
    And at the end of the day the end nodes learn mac addresses using the conventional method of flooding and learning. So you wont find any VPLS specific commands to see what mac address is the VPLS instance flooding. As its only providing a medium for connectivty. And the flooding is done by the end nodes. as they treat the VPLS VC as one of the outgoing port.

    Thanks a lot for the presentations Harot...
    As I'm a bit new to MPLS technology, I have some doubts in my mind so far Layer 3 VPNs are concerned. Let's consider a typical Scenario :
    CE-->PE-->P-->P-->PE-->CE....
    Could u pls tell me where MP-BGP runs (whether in PE to P or PE to CE b'coz somewhere i read the protocol used between PE-CE is MP-BGP and that's why I'm confused) and what is it's purpose. So far I know MP-BGP is run in order to make the VPNv4 routes unique i.e IPV4+VPNv4. I would highly appreciate ur feedback if u explain the layer 3 concept entirely protocol wise...i.e IGP, MP-BGP in a MPLS domain. What I know so far is CE-PE protocol can be anything right from static to BGP. P-PE is MP-BGP.
    Kindly pl. correct me wherever I'm wrong...

  • Orange Hue on VPL-HW30ES viewing 3d

    Hello all,
    I have a projector VPL-HW30ES. Viewing in 2d is excellent !! However when viewing 3d content, I get an reddish-orange hue on the major portion of the right bottom of the screen. Also, the entire picture has a light greenish color -- especially viewing brightly colored pictures.
    I bought the glasses : Model number: TDG-PJ1 and also TDGBR250/B. Not sure what is going on here.
    I am viewing the movie "THOR".
    Is there an issue with the projector?
    Thanks!

    Hello Sai,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
    I recommend you to you check the hdmi cable to make sure its marked "hdmi high-speed" for 3D.  For more information regarding HDMI technology including HDMI cables, visit http://www.hdmi.org.  While I don't think the issue that you experienced when watching 3d is caused by the projector, however, it's neccessary for you to do a factory settings reset as part of troubleshooting process.

  • CFBuilder, CF10 (multihoming) and admin services

    Hi folks,
    I am setting up a development server with 2 instances of coldfusion running (cfusion + instance0)
    I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the admin services working when cf instances are set up in a multihoming arrangement?
    I have looked through the CFBuilder documentation and it seems to be skewed towards CF9 and Jrun. I am able to add the servers in CFBuilder and have it correctly report the current status, but if I try to stop, start or restart a server from CFBuilder nothing happens.
    I initially tried to get it working with just the default cfusion instance and when I tried to stop, start or restart I would get an error in the cfbuilder server console
    Error(11/21 at 03:06:01) Cannot perform the operation. Admin server for the remote server 192.168.0.10 is not running.
    After looking around the web (I can't remember who posted the info, but thanks!) I found that I needed to comment out the host node in the {CFHome}/cfusion/jetty/etc/jetty.xml file.
    <Call name="addConnector">
          <Arg>
              <New class="org.mortbay.jetty.bio.SocketConnector">
                <!-- <Set name="Host">127.0.0.1</Set> -->
                <Set name="port"><SystemProperty name="jetty.port" default="8985"/></Set>
                <Set name="maxIdleTime">50000</Set>
                <Set name="lowResourceMaxIdleTime">1500</Set>
              </New>
          </Arg>
        </Call>
    After that I created a second ColdFusion instance and then added it to the servers view in CFBuilder neither of my servers can be stopped, started or restarted via the IDE.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    How can I confirm that the admin service have been installed? Is there a file I can check for or something in an xml file somewhere? I have another server that I'd like to try, but can't remember if I said yes to the admin services.
    If you see
    #Remote Component Administrator Credentials
    JETTY_USERNAME=
    JETTY_PASSWORD=
    JETTY_PASSWORD_CONFIRM=
    in the log does that mean it should be installed?

  • Help on VPLS integration @ CE end

    Hi,
    I have attched diagram for easy understand.
    Service provider VPLS means think that point to point link full mesh between my locations.
    option 1:
    My communication should happen through HEADOFFICE only.
    In future i may required comunication directly between Branchoffice also.
    planning to run the EIGRP. pls provide the config for the same at all locations
    Regards
    sateesh

    Sateesh,
    You still haven't answer the question about why you need all the traffic from BO to go through HQ.
    The simple approach would be to have all sites on the same subnet and to run eigrp between all of them as follow:
    HQ:
    int xxxx
    ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
    router eigrp 1
    netw 192.168.1.0
    BO #1:
    int xxxx
    ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
    router eigrp 1
    netw 192.168.1.0
    BO #2:
    int xxxx
    ip address 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0
