Vpn-addr-assign via DHCP

Hi,
We are facing some intermittent issue while connecting RA vpn users. This issue has started after upgrading ASA 5545-X 9.1.2 to 9.1.5-(10).
VPN users are successfully authenticated as per ACS logs, but its not able to complete the Phase 2 negotiation. VPN user ip address is configured to assigned from DHCP. However this is kind of intermittent as same users are able to connect some time, but not all the times.
Here is the configuration of one of the profiles and we have 3 similar vpn profiles.
group-policy XXX-VPN-Policy internal
group-policy XXX-VPN-Policy attributes
 dns-server value x.x.x.x y.y.y.y
 dhcp-network-scope 172.20.25.0
 vpn-simultaneous-logins 3
 vpn-filter value VPN-FLTR-ACL
 vpn-tunnel-protocol ikev1 ikev2
 split-tunnel-policy tunnelspecified
 split-tunnel-network-list value xxx-VPN-ACL
 default-domain value xxxx
tunnel-group xxxx-VPN type remote-access
tunnel-group xxxx-VPN general-attributes
 address-pool xxxx-VPNPool-02
 authentication-server-group RADIUS
 default-group-policy  XXX-VPN-Policy
 dhcp-server 10.10.xx.xx
tunnel-group  xxxx-VPN ipsec-attributes
 ikev1 pre-shared-key *****
Can anyone advise what could be the issue, could this be a known bug.?
thanks in advance.

Hi Karthik,
Thanks for your reply, we can't use "no vpn-addr-assign local" command as some of the VPN groups are using ip address from local assigned pool.
Its a mix of both combination (local+DHCP)
Thanks for your time..

  • Flakey vpn-addr-assign dhcp -- anyone else?

When we use vpn-address-assign dhcp we sometimes (often actually) get a failure to assign an address. This shows up as either an error 738 or error 720 on windows native clients.
Reconnecting immediately after the error generally works fine.
Does anyone else get this? Anyone have any ideas as to how to prevent these failures?
From viewing the logs I see the VPN successfully acquire an address from the DHCP server, so there are no problems on that end.

It looks PIX was missing an access-list entry on its outside interface permitting udp xxx for the isakmp tunnel.

  • Clients can not obtain an ip-address via DHCP.

HI all, I would like to share one problem with WLC 5508 .
we added a new virtual interface on the WLC. One new SSID is associated with this interface.
We created a ACL for this interface to restrict the access via WIFI to certian services.
The following services are allowed on this ACL:
    TCP-Traffic for HTTPS
    UDP-Traffic for DNS
    UDP-Traffic for DHCP
    TCP-Traffic for HTTP
    ICMP-Traffic
    TCP-Traffic for CITRIX
The Problem is, as soon as we add a new service to this ACL, we need to reboot the Controller because the Clients which are working over WIFI do not get a IP-Address assigned via DHCP.
It´s not correct that everything works fine because the change were not applied.
The changes of the ACL are applied on the fly, but for reason we don´t know, the clients don´t get a DHCP IP-Address (after changing the ACL) until the Controller is rebooted.
I am attaching configruation from affected wlc
    thank you

If shop is coming from a server on the LAN you need to add DHCP as a port they can reach.

  • WRT54G: Static mode set on WAN side, but still sometimes pulls address via DHCP!

We've had (6) WRT54G (v5) installed in a building, for about (2) years now, with no previous problems. Now, ALL of them are doing something weird.  They are all set for Static mode on the WAN side (we have static ip addresses for these), yet every now and then they will spontaneously pull an address via DHCP on their own.  When they do this, the setting itself doesn't change.  It will still show "STATIC" in the pull down list.  But, the address will no longer be the address we assigned to the unit, and will instead appear to be an address that it pulled via DHCP.
Thanks, in advance, for any help and insight into this strange problem.
    David

Ah.  In that case, we're not going to put our client through the frustration of chasing a ghost in the machine.  We'll just replace them with new ones.  But, I'll try this on them in my spare time and let you know how it goes.
    Thanks for your assistance,
    David

  • No IP Address via DHCP connecting to Cisco WiFi via WPA - after update

    Good Evening,
We use Cisco Aeronet WiFi devices at work and use WPA security. I was able to successfully connect via my MacBook Pro until an OS update a few weeks ago. Now I can connect and it appears that I authenticate - however I cannot get a valid IP address (just a 169.x.x.x address).
I can successfully connect to open and WEP networks - but WPA is an issue.
    Is this a known issue?
I have applied the latest Airport update I believe.

This is an old issue, I have yet to see a fix. I have the same problem; my MBP assigns its own IP address, and no matter what I do, it will connect to the network but not the internet. Interestingly, when I boot my iBook, which I first did to check settings (the iBook always connected easily) the MBP connected. It does this every time. As soon as the iBook boots, or wakes, the MBP does its thing, gets a valid IP address via DHCP, and connects. Even entering a manual address, will not connect the MBP to the internet. Deleting ports, and locations doesn't help. The MBP has connected on its own about three times out of (say) a hundred. Apple engineers here in Australia, said they'd never heard of the problem. Maybe they are asleep. Bah.

  • Wireless on 1811W not getting IP via DHCP

What am I doing wrong? The wireless client authenticates to the router, but doesn't get an IP via DHCP? Help??

    Hi Jeff,
Just now got the chnace to apply your suggestions and test. Still no go.
    Here's the updated config.
Just want the wireless to be an extension of the wired network - no "guest" access required - so no additional DHCP pool/rules to apply.

  • Assigning a dhcp reservation

    Hi,
I recently noticed how my westell 6100g modem provided by verizon is also a router.
This causes some problems since I have the thing connected to an apple airport extreme router which I connect all my devices to.
I thought I had the problem solved by making the airport a bridge and for the most part I did. Except for one thing.I have an old printer which cannot seem to get an ip through dhcp unless I assign one using a dhcp reservation.
Here is my question: Can I either
    1. Turn the router portion of the westell modem off so it just provides a direct connection. THAT way I can use the apple router functionality instead? (I'd rather do this)
    2. Assign a dhcp reservation in the westell modem so my printer works.

  • EA2700 router not getting assigned IP address via DHCP

I'm helping my mom (remotely) set up her new EA2700 router to replace her old Linksys WRT160N router.  It is currently connected to a Motorola 6121 cable modem.  She also has Charter cable modem service.  FYI, the WRT160N is currently working albeit it is dropping connections and losing connections from time to time.  That's why she purchased this new router.
I'm trying to help her set it up manually.  Unfortunately, she does not have a laptop computer.  She does have an iPad and Android phone, but nothing that would allow her to connect a device with a CD to the router that would allow her to do a CD based setup.  Thus, we're trying to do a manual setup.
She is able to login to the router using Safari by connecting to 192.168.1.1 so I think the basic stuff is set up properly and all the wires are connected properly.  She is able to get into the main setup page.  I've helped her compare the setup of the current (EA2700) router to her old WRT160N router - this took quite a while - and essentially everything is set up similarly between the old and new router.  Internet connection type is set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP."  Unfortunately, the router doesn't seem to be able to get assigned an IP address from Charter.  When she goes to the Status page, no IP addresses are listed.  She has also clicked on both the release IP and renew IP buttons, both with no effect.  She has tried power cycling both the cable modem and router, but not luck.  What's going on?  I see another user may have a similar issue:
    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Wireless-Routers/EA2700-DHCP-reservations/m-p/561986?comm_cc=HSus&...
What can we do to fix this issue?

If mac clone is enabled, the address that it will clone is usually the mac address of the computer that can get online directly to the modem. Or it’s possible that the cable modem is only recognizing the MAC address of the old router. You may enabling MAC Address clone and clone the MAC address of the old router.

  • WRT54G v6 fw v. 1.01 no IP assign on mac via DHCP

Hi i probe 2 routers LinkSys WRT54G v.6 and my mac's (ibook G4 1.33 + macbook pro 15' + powerbook G4 1.5 + mac mini intel core solo) has no automatic ip, i change an access point from EDIMAX (?) but i need to run my network with one router. i try to change the firmware but does'n work. any idea? thanks and please sorry my english.

I am having the same problem with my MacBook and iMac.  Since upgrading to the 1.01 firmware on my linksys WRT54G v5 router, neither computer can get an IP from the router.  I have to assign manually.  This was not the case with the 1.00.9 firmware where it worked fine.
I think there might be a bug for Mac users in this firmware update.  I am going to downgrade to the previous firmware and see if that fixes it...

  • Wrong IP address being assigned via Ethernet

I have a peculiar problem, but perhaps I'm not understanding something.
My MacBook Pro connects wirelessly via Airport to my Time Capsule. I've configured the Time Capsule to assign DHCP addresses in the range of 10.0.1.100 to 10.0.1.200. Sure enough, my MacBook gets assigned an address of 10.0.1.111 and identifies the DNS server as 10.0.1.1. All is good.
Now, when I happen to turn off Airport and connect to my Time Capsule directly via an Ethernet cable for faster access, my MacBook does not get assigned an address in the specified range. Instead, it is given 192.168.15.2 when using DHCP. And it thinks the DNS is at 192.168.15.1. Is this correct behavior? Although it appears to be connecting to the Internet, I'm unable to locate my Time Capsule when choosing a backup disk in Time Machine, and I do not see it in Finder, either. Plus, I can't see my Time Capsule in the Airport Utility when using Ethernet.
Also, I was wondering... can my Ethernet and Airport connection co-exist at the same time if I enable Airport while connected via an Ethernet cable? i.e. will my MacBook default to using Ethernet?
    Thanks!

SOLUTION FOUND: I had the same problem with my Time Capsule today. My TC was set for the 10.x range but all my PC's were assigne a 192.x address. Only the Macbook was able to get assigned the 10.x address. To make things even more strange the Airport Utility showed that the PC's were assigned a 10.x address. Neither the wireless or wired devices worked, only the MAC. Btw I was able to get the PC's to work by assigning the PC with the 10.x address Airport utility said it had, but this of course is not the way it was supposed to work.
I tried to restart, set settings back to default, downgraded firmware and upgraded but nothing worked. Then I called Apple Support and they asked me to do a hard restart. You do this by taking out the power and holding in the pinhole button in the back while connecting the power again. The light should blink rapidly. when this happend i released the button and set up the TC via the Airport utility from scratch.
Now it works! Thank you Apple support. I guess there was a glitch in the software and I hope it doesnt happen again.

  • VPN Client - Assigned wrong netmask?

I am having problems with a VPN setup that has previously been working. The VPN Client connects OK (V4.6.04.0043) however, if I check the IP address & mask assigned by the router I see :-
    IP Address : 172.22.80.126
    Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
    Gateway : 172.22.80.126
    DNS Servers : 172.22.1.240
If I try and ping anything on the LAN I get no response. I can ping my own IP.
Using the same client I can connect sucessfully to several other VPN gateways - all of these give me what I would expect to be the correct mask of 255.255.255.0
Can anyone shed any light on this?
IOS on the non-working setup is - 12.2(11)T6
    Andy.

it's normal. when the router assigns ip address from the pre-configured pool, it determines the mask according to the class of ip. with your case the mask will be 255.255.0.0 as the ip is 172.x.x.x. if the pool is 10.x.x.x then the mask will be 255.0.0.0.
it will work except the pc itself has another route to 172. to verify, do a route print on the pc.
a way to verify the issue is to connect the vpn via a dialup connection. in that case you will be able to identify whether the issue is with the pc, vpn software, or the router config

  • User with 2 permissions assigned via groups, not able to utilize the higher privilege

User has been assigned Publishing Editor, this was assigned by being a member of a group, where group's permission is publishing editor.
In addition, the user has been assigned Reviewer, this also was assigned by being a member of a group, where group's permission is Reviewer.
The issue: The user can only perform functions related to the Reviewer role, and can't perform functions available via the Publishing Editor.
Any Ideas what is going on?
*Removing the user from the Reviewer group is not an option.

    Hi,
The easiest way is to grant the single user Publishing Editor permission of that folder directly, check if the issue persists.
Right click on the folder, Properties -> Permissions -> Add the user with Publishing Editor permission.

  • Multiple domains via DHCP (option 15)

It seems Mac OS X (I use 10.4.10 but I suspect it affects many versions) is incompatible with receiving multiple domain names in a single string over DHCP Option 15.
If DHCP returns Option 15 with "exampledomain.com eng.exampledomain.com", then any lookup (using dig, ping, Microsoft Entourage, etc.) of a non-fully qualified domain name will fail.
You can see this in the /etc/resolv.conf file, which contains:
    domain exampledomain.com eng.exampledomain.com
    nameserver 10.X.X.1
    nameserver 10.X.X.2
I know that putting multiple domains within the same "domain" option in DHCP is a proprietary hack but some networks still use this. Has anybody run into this and have they found a good resolution to make Mac OS X work with multiple domains?

While a single mailbox can be configured to receive on multiple addresses (called "proxy addresses" or "aliases"), the mailbox is configured with only one primary SMTP address (outbound address).  So if your requirement is to send
as the received address, you would not be able to do that with a single mailbox through normal means.
Some people have developed a workaround to the above limitation by configuring Outlook to use multiple POP3 accounts for a single mailbox.  See this link for additional details:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/hot/archive/2012/04/26/how-to-add-an-alias-to-an-office-365-account-and-how-to-set-up-outlook-to-send-email-messages-as-this-alias.aspx
I would also be sure to look at the client requirements for Exchange Online.  The supported version of Outlook is going to be Outlook 2010 SP2.  Older versions may work but would not be supported.  Outlook 2003 would at best possibly
    connect via POP3.

  • Branch office VPN connetion backup via 3G

    Hello,
I have a security VPN architecture made of a couple redundant ASA in main office as a Hub and 880 serie routers as remote spokes.
I would like to have connectivity redundancy in order to have my spoke routers always connected to the hub.
I tought of using 887 ADSL router with 3G interface as backup but I don't have a clear idea of how I can make an automatic redundancy.
Do you have any document in where i can read any example?
I would like to have a primary VPN link via ATM interface and a secondary link on demand by 3G interface (public dynamic ip).
If necessary i can also think of changing the ASAs with new routers.
    Thanks all
    Johnny
