VPN Client 5.0.00.0340 on Vista says connected when not

Hi all,
I'm using VPN Client 5.0.00.0340 on Windows Vista to connect to one of our customers.
When I go to connect and type in my password, it always seems to authenticate correctly and connect to the VPN successfully.
However, about 75% of the time, even though it says it is connected, I do not actually have a connection to the customer network. I can't even ping the servers.
If I disconnect and reconnect repeatedly, on about the third or fourth attempt, I will actually get a connection that works, allowing me to access the remote network.
Does anyone know why this might be? Could it be an issue with my network settings, a setting in the VPN Client software, or even something at the customer end that is set up incorrectly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chris

Hi,
There's quite a few bugs related to version 5 and Vista. You might want to check the bug toolkit to see if there's anything relevant (including CSCsq34291 which may or may not be related).
Does it work on XP and have you tried rolling back the VPN client version to 4.x to see if it improves things (I've had to do this before).

  • Problems with VPN-Client 5.0 instoled on Windows Vista over ADSL Conecction

Hi, I have severals clients that they use Windows Vista and connects throw there lan over a VPN-Client. The clients that has an ADSL connection in there hose has disconect problems. Do you know why?? Do you know same workarround to do?? Thanks.
    Regards.

Make sure that you have the right cable pinout and that your ISP has turned on the DSL service. Troubleshoot the DSL connection by watching the modem state of the ADSL interface as the line retrains.
To use the VPN Client, you need
    - Direct network connection (cable or DSL modem and network adapter/interface card), or
    - Internal or external modem

  • Bordermanager VPN-client 3.8.x + netware6.0 + Vista

I'm currently using bordermanager 3.8.16 installed on my Windows Vista and connecting to my office by the Bordermanager VPN-client to a netware6-server (they refuse to upgrade to 6.5) and it's working! (but!).
.. but every hour when my ISP renews it's lease for the IP-adress it won't succeed and the VPN-client and my internet-connection stops working.
Then I have to disconnect/logout the VPN and then reconnect to my ISP and then reconnect/login to the VPN
I also found out that the VPN doesn't work when I'm behind a NAT (but that works on my other computer (with Windows XP).
I know Vista isn't supported on 3.8.x, but I'm wondering if it will get supported in some patch? Or can I perhaps install Bordermanager 3.9SP1 and use it on Netware6 allthough it says in the requirements that it has to be netware6.5?

But when I'm on this page Novell: Downloads
... it says PLATFORMS: Netware 6.5 when doing a mouseover on the link "BorderManager 3.9 Support Pack1".
and when following the link "BorderManager 3.9 Support Pack1" it once again says Platforms: Netware 6.5. And when reading a bit further down on that page under System Requirements:
    "1.0 System Requirements
Make sure that NetWare 6.5 SP6 or SP7 with Novell
BorderManager 3.9 is installed in your system, before
you install Novell BorderManager 3.9 SP1."
but if you tell me it works with netware6 I trust you Gonzalo (you've helped me once before). Thanks again, I'll try it.

  • Installing VPN Client 5.0.01.0600 on Vista

    Hi There,
I'm having some problems with the VPN client 5.0.01.0600 for Windows Vista.
    I've installed the client but when trying to connect I receive the following error;
"Reason 421: The remote peer is not responding"
This to me would suggest an issue with our 2600 series router however ive tried connecting to it using two other laptops running Windows XP (from the same internet connection) and theyve connected fine with no issues.
Ive attached my logs from when I try to connect.
Any ideas would be much appreciated!

  • Win 7 client waits a long time at "initializing remote connection" when connecting to RDS Collection through Connection Broker

I have fully patched windows 7 clients with the RDP 8.0 client (Shell Version 6.2.9200) that take over a minute to connect to an RDS session host through a connection broker.
    All servers are 2012 R2.
On the RDS Session Host it eventually gets connected to I get this warning
    ID 20499
Remote Desktop Services has taken too long to load the user configuration from server \\myserver for user myuser
    edit:
My windows 8.1 machine running RDP 8.1 in the same environment connects with no delay. That session connection also gets the warning ID 20499 so that seems to be another issue

    Hi,
Did you check with other user account, does it gives same issue?
May be the issue caused by some network related. For that you can set the Auto tuning level. For this refer
    this link
which will help to provide you more guide. You can try some command on client system (Quoted from Link).
Run a command prompt (cmd.exe) as an Administrator
    Disable the autotunning feature
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
If you want to re-enable it:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
In some cases you may need to use this command in addition to the above, but I didn't have to:
netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
Run this command for faster Network
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted
For more troubleshooting related to network issue, you can refer to “HSN for Windows Server 2012”. Also you can refer “Troubleshooting

    Hope it helps!

  • Cisco VPN Client after Windows Vista Update (KB941229)

I had the Cisco VPN client 5 installed on my laptop and configured by the IT department at work. It was working fine all day until I restarted and KB941229 was automatically installed. When it turned back on the Cisco VPN service (CVPND) would attempt to run then stop. If I started it manually it would run for about a minute then stop again. Without the service running the VPN client won't open, let alone let me connect.
I know this vista update is fairly recent so I'm not sure there will be a fix but maybe somebody can think of a workaround or some way to fix this situation.
    Things I've tried:
    1) Uninstalling the windows update
    2) restarting
    3) restarting (in denial that this was happening)
    4) configuring a vista VPN connection to attempt to connect to the company VPN (this failed too)
Uninstalling the update caused me to be unable to ping for some reason. This meant the VPN client would run but be unable to connect to the server and yet I was entirely able to access the internet locally. I reinstalled the update assuming maybe the installation went badly but that caused the same problem with the VPN service stopping itself (or being stopped) after a minute.

    Hello
    my issue has been resolved.
there is a service called Base Filtering Services running in background for Vista and has to disabled to make IP Sec VPN Client working.
after doing so it works smoothly.

  • Vista VPN Client TrueVector Device Driver Issue

    Hi,
I have an unresolved issue with the VPN Client v.5.0.01.0600 (Vista) on a Vista Home Premium System.
The client was successfully installed using admin privileges. But upon rebooting, the following error pops up:
    <snip>
This driver is blocked due to compatibility issues...
    Driver: TrueVector Device Driver
    Publisher: Zone Labs, Inc.
    </snip>
This error occurs immediately upon user logon and just pops up every minute or so.
I haven't seen anything about this problem in the release notes. Does anyone know what could cause it or/and how it can be resolved?
PS: Some norton security software (don't remember which one) was installed on this system. But I have removed it prior to the cisco vpn client installation.

On Vista Beta2, the first time logs are enabled, Microsoft firewall would pop-up a dialog box to allow the IPSecLog process. To enable logging, please allow IPSecLog process. Log messages do not show up till the log file is touched.
In Vista Beta 2, the VPN Client is cannot detect that the VPN Client is already connected after user logs in. The workaround is Launch VPN Client. You will notice that the lock icon appears in taskbar.

  • Cisco VPN Client installation freezes on Windows 7

    Hello,
I am in need of some help installing the Cisco VPN Client on a Windows 7 workstation.
    Here are some details:
    Cisco VPN Client Version: 5.0.07.0410
Operation System: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit, version 6.1, build 7600
PC Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T42, Type 2373-7WE
    Issue Description:
I attempted to install the Cisco VPN Client on the computer with the local administrator account in Windows 7. The computer was given a clean installation of Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (Existing HDD partitions were deleted and formatted). After the OS installation, I installed the network driver via Windows Update, and proceeded to run the installation for the Cisco VPN Client. The installation apears to proceed smoothly until the installation progress indicator reaches the point where it states that it is installing the "Deterministic Network Enhancer." Shortly reaching this point, the Windows CPU Usage monitor reaches 100% and the operating system freezes.
I have tried the following actions, which failed to successfully install the software:
    a) Installing Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00.0340 produced the same problem.
    b) Reformatted the hard drive, installed Windows 7, and tried to install the Cisco VPN Client again, but failed.
    c) Used Windows 7 System Restore to restore OS state prior to the installation of the Cisco VPN Client. Then, ran Citrix's winfix.exe tool. After that, I ran Citrix's dneupdate.msi program for 32-bit Windows operating systems, but that also crashed the OS mid-way through the installation/update.
    d) This URL from Citrix (http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp) suggested changing a Windows registry key, then try re-installing the Cisco VPN Client. However, that did not work.
I am at a loss as to how to resolve this issue. If anyone can provide some suggestions or a solution to this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Regards,
    Samson

  • Cisco ASA 5505, Cisco VPN Client and Novell Netware

    Hi,
Our ISP have installed Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. We are trying to connect to our Novell 5.1 server using VPN client.
I installed VPN client on a laptop that is using wireless connection. I connect using wireless signal from near by hotel and I am able to connect to my firewall usinging vpn client and also able to login in using Novell client for XP.
When I use same vpn client and Novell client at home that is not using wireless connection, but DSL connection amd not able to login or find the tree.
The only difference in two machine is laptop using wireless connection and my home machine is using wired connection using DSL.

If your remote end of the services in question support IPsec IKEv1 as the VPN type then, yes - the 5505 can be a client for that service. At that point it looks like a regular LAN-LAN VPN which is documented in many Cisco and 3rd party how-to documents.

  • Apple built-in vpn client and dhcp hostnames

We have a number of Mac clients in our office which uses MS for dhcp and dns.
I've noticed that the mac clients when wired directly into the office network successfully get a dhcp lease and report their hostnames accurately to the dhcp server. However when these same clients connect to the office network via VPN (using the built-in vpn utility with Cisco IPSEC) they get a dhcp lease as expected, but do not register a hostname with the lease on the dhcp server. The lease is assigned to a blank hostname.
I assume this is a pretty common issue. Has anyone found a way to configure the vpn client to send the hostname along with the connection, either via the client config or through some other method?
    Thanks.

The VPN server is a Cisco 3030, however only the Mac clients have this issue. Windows and linux clients report their hostnames to dhcp properly even when VPN connected.

  • VPN client using CLI on windows 2003 server

Hello, first time poster here. Have an interesting issue I'm hoping to find help with.
I'm using the VPN client (I have version 4.8.01.0300) in CLI mode (called from a script) to connect to a remote site. Got the connection setup and all working fine except for one small detail. Hopefully I can explain this well...
I want this connection to run fully unattended as it will run numerous times per day, every day. The issue is the little pop-up message saying "VPN has disconnected".
When I first setup the connection, it was on windows XP and everything was golden. I could issue the command : vpnclient connect <name> user <userid> pwd <passwd> sd, <other stuff>, vpnclient disconnect and all worked as expected.
Then I installed same stuff on Windows 2003 server. Issuing same connect command gives error: "user authentication failed". Then I discovered that if I first launched the vpn client GUI then the CLI command, it would connect without error - but then the "disconnected" pop-up window came along.
    So - can I either:
    - Run vpn client in CLI mode without the GUI running.
    - Suppress the pop-up.
    Thanks in advance.
    Scott

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
Please try register MSI installer or clean boot your system to install FEP client.
Registered MSI Installer following the steps below:
1.Run "cmd"--Browse to the "%systemroot%\system32" directory and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
2.Change directories to "%systemroot%\SysWow64" and execute: "msiexec /regserver"
    3.Reboot the server

  • Cisco VPN client x64 for win7 - will not install

    Hello guys,
I have fresh windows 7 x64 installation and I try install Cisco VPN client (vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9.exe). Installation ends with fatal error "Installation ended prematurely of an error". I red lot of 'step-by-step' how to solve this problem (run as administrator, even though that I'm administrator; UAC disabled; run in WinXP-mode; etc), without success.
I tried run installation process from cmd with verbose logging "msiexec /i vpnclient_setup.msi /lv log.txt" (and other 'recomended' optional parameters). The same result - fatal error.
Can anybody tell me where is the problem? (installation file is not corupted)
