VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 freezes in Windows 7 64 bit

I have the latest version of the VPN client isntalled.  I've re-installed it several times.  When I start the program - it will freeze, and be come very slow.  Like usually 2-3 minutes per click.  It will eventually connect, but  the application, is almost unresponsive most of the time.
I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit (duo core)
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Gentlemen,
We do support the IPsec client on W7 64 bit.
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=281940730&catid=268438162&os=Windows&softwareid=282364316&release=5.0.07.0440&rellifecycle=&relind=AVAILABLE&reltype=all
On the other hand, I have noticed an interesting behaviour during the installation process, specially on computers upgraded to 64 bit from 32 bit.
When you install the Client, the default folder points to "Program Files (x86)" instead of "Program Files", when you re-install it, please make sure to define the "Program Files" folder as the correct folder, once done, reboot the computer and test it out.
BTW, you might want to run Ccleaner (registry cleaner) in order to clean up the system prior to re-installing the client.
Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.
Thanks in advance.

  • Failed to install Cisco VPN client 5.0.07.0440 on win 7 64bit [Error 1722]

Hi Gurus, when I tried to install Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 on Win 7 64bit, the system would pop up an Error 1722( Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.) at the last stage of copying files. Then it would roll back .
I had tried to clean the temp files, restart windows installer services, and also re-register the MSIEXEC file. However, it would still pop up the error during the installation. For our company, it is a common issue. So, could you please offer me some advice on this?

    Thank you for your reply.
I had checked the software again and found out.
    1. The MSI installer package is fine, because I can install the software on another PC.
    2. It is not like that, because I can start the installation procedure and run it smoothly until on the 88% of copying files.
For now, I had only found this issue on one PC.
    Thanks.

    Hello Paul,
This seems to be a known issue:
Client cvpnd.exe errors on bootup if certain vendor's firewall installed.
However, just to try further options, what if you try this?
Restart VPN Client Service if You Install VPN Client before Zone Alarm
Also check: Check Point Integrity Firewall Incompatibility, found in the link above.
From the Zone Alarm FW, make sure you have the following advanced firewall options enabled:
    Allow VPN protocols
Allow uncommon protocols at high security
    Enable IPv6 networking
    HTH
    Portu.

  • Cisco VPN client install fails with Error 1722 on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am having issues with laptops upgraded from Vista to Windows 7.
Prior to the upgrade they are running Cisco VPN Client 5.0.05.0290.  These laptops also have Juniper Network Connect 6.5 and Citrix web client installed.  The windows upgrade advisor made no recommendations regarding uninstalling / reinstalling these apps.
I have done an inplace upgade to Windows 7 (Windows Vista Enterprise 32bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit) and after the install the Cisco client is not working.  Uninstalled the client (the uninstall was successful) then reinstalled and the installation fails at Installing Cisco Systems Virtual Adapter - error 1722 there was a problem with the windows installer package.
I have followed the steps for a manual uninstall of the Cisco client and then tried the install again - still not successful.  Interestingly (or not) the Juniper Network Connect also fails with the error The Network Connect Virtual adapter driver is not installed properly.  This also fails to reinstall after being removed.
I tried removing the VPN clients on another laptop and then running the upgrade but the same errors occured when reinstalling the VPN Client.  I have tried the Winfix and DNE patch from Citrix but these fail saying there is a corruption in the application.
On another laptop where only the Cisco VPN client was installed a reinstall was required after the upgrade, but it did install successfully.
On a clean image these applications all install fine, however I have a large number of laptops do upgrade and don't want to do a fresh install and settings migration on all of them.
What files / registry entrys are involved with the DNE adapter so I can manually clear it all out before reinstalling?
Anything else I can do to troubleshoot this issue?
    Cheers,
    James

You should be able to install the 64 bit version of the Cisco VPN software
    Latest version is vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0440-k9.exe
You should download and run MCPR.exe first, to clean out any traces of McAfee products that conflict with Cisco VPN.
    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
If there is a problem with vbscript registration on the system - there is a fixit tool from Microsoft for that:
    MicrosoftFixit50842.msi
(Using Shrew VPN is a possible workaround.)

  • Cisco VPN Client is not opening on windows 7 64bits

    Hello,
My problem : i instaled Cisco VPN client 5.0.07.0440-k9 on Windows 7  64 bits, the installation ends successfully. But when i restard the computer, when i click it doesnt open.
Notice : when i restard the computer, it takes an infinite time the first rebooting ,  in the final stage of boot ( The black window with the Microsoft logo and  message Windows Is Starting ...)  '' it takes an infinite time so i force the reboot.
started the same thread here but no answer yet.
    Thank you

check your event viewer/System log.   You may see some entries stating that
"The Cisco Systems Inc. IPSec Driver failed to start due to the following error: Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file."
disable digital signatures (NOT recommended) and cisco works fine
I guess Cisco has already killed this program if they aren't even getting it certified.

  • VPN client will not open or connect

    Hi,
I'm running VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 on a Windows 7 Pro HP TouchSmart. The .pcf file is the same iI am using on many other machines om this same network.  When I double click the icon, the window opens up, but when I double click the connection entry, the dialog box says "connecting to security gateway at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx for a few seconds and then says "Not connected."  I can't even get to the log-in screen I normally can. This is a new computer set-up. All updates are downloaded for windows.
I've uninstalled the client and re-insatlled it re-booting after every step. I've pinged the address and had no problems. Running Avast, Malwarebytes as on other machines. No other security software. My VPN is enabled in my Network Connections.
    Here is my log file:

Hope this is posted to the right group.
Never had this problem after many machines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Since you're getting the message "may be configured with invalid group password", perhaps your pcf file got corrupted.
I'd recommend you compare the profile pcf file (stored in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Systems\VPN Client\Profiles") on the non-working machine with one from a working setup.
They can be examined in a text editor or with a diff tool (like the freeware ExamDiff). The encrypted group password hashes (string in the file preceded by "enc_GroupPwd=") should match.

  • VPN Client and Windows 7 Issue

Using VPN Client, V5.0.07.0440 a Dell Vostro W7 Professional system, 64 bit. The client installs and runs the same way it has on at least 20 other systems without issue. When I try to remote into the network, I get a "can not connect" error attempting to connect to any system or server. I placed a known good laptop using XP on the same internet line, it connects without issue. The remote access (mstsc.exe) verson is 6.1.7601.17514 there is no Admin switch in the shortcut. This is the first time anything like this has happened, numerous W7 32 and 64 bit and XP systems. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
It's like the VPN connects to the network, but the remote access is not using the same connection. I get the same results whether the VPN Client is loaded or not.
Sure could use some help on this.

The system that I am trying to connect with is a Dell Vostro desktop, W7 64bit Pro. I am attempting to connect to a Windows 2003 domain thru a PIX 501 firewall. The desktop system uses an onboard Ethernet adaptor connected to the Internet thru Charter. I do not have ready access to the computer as it's my employers home system. The frustrating thing is, I have installed and set this up on at least 30 other systems and all of them worked flawlessly. Of course, this one would be the problem as it belongs to my boss.
Thanks for responding, I plan on picking up the unit so I can devote some real time to fixing it.
    Thanks again

  • Cisco VPN client -install error

    Hi,
I have a problem when i'm trying to install Cisco VPN client on my Windows 8.1 x64. After downloading 3 or 4 different versions of Cisco it keeps rising the same error concerning a DLL that is required. I'd really appreciate some advice or the reason why
    it keeps rising this error.

    Hi,
I can't find any compatible information with Windows 8 /8.1 about Cisco VPN client:
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=281940730&catid=268438162&os=Windows&softwareid=282364316&release=5.0.07.0410&rellifecycle=&relind=AVAILABLE&reltype=latest
You can just check these steps, If following steps didn't work for you, please contact Cisco support for further help.
On Windows 8.1, you will need to update the DNE first:
    Download: Ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi

  • ASA Iphone, Ipad VPN client pre-shared key (PSK) special characters bug

I ran into this in a deployment of IPSec clients with apple ipad and iphone native vpn client. Here are details:
    Cisco ASA 8.2.5 OS
    Ipad, running 5.0.1
    Iphone i4S, running OS 5.0.1
Special characters make your pre-shared key more secure, so i used a password generator app to make one that coincidently included a " (quotation mark). After configuring this PSK on a Ipad, i was unable to connect. I saw nothing in the ASA logs, indicating the Ipad didnt even try to connect.
The Ipad generated the following error message:
    VPN Connection
    A configuration error occured
    OK Button
After searching for quite some time, i found this somewhat obscure reference to the bug:
    http://blogs.oreilly.com/iphone/2008/07/strong-passwords-can-hurt.html
    Special thx to this guy!
So i started to test special characters to see what would work, adding in 1 character at a time. Here is where I stopped:
    pre-shared-key !@#$%^&*()_-+=;:'<>,.
These characters worked in the PSK. If you are curious, and want to play, have fun. I assume the alphnumerics will work since those are pretty standard.
As a side note, here are a few more interesting items:
    1) The " (quote mark) does work when you run the real cisco vpn client. This was successful on a Windows 7 laptop with 5.X VPN Client.
    2) The ? (question mark) doesnt work as well, but that is a little easier to figure out because when you configure it on the ASA, context-sensitive help kicks in and knocks you off the config line.
    3) Iphone I4S suffers from the same issue - doesnt like quotes.
    4) Android is probably not affected by this bug, but I tested on an open source TUN driver- enabled adroid - not the bionic.
Hope that saves someone some time, sometime!
    W

    Thanks for the tip.
Help stamp out special characters in passwords. Their "strength" is a myth!
    Explained nicely here: http://xkcd.com/936/

  • VPN client to CISCO 857

    Hello,
I would like to know if CISCO 857 allows remote software Cisco VPN clients aside from site to site VPN. I heard that all VPN cisco cable devices allow cisco VPN client software connections, is that true?
Thanks a lot for your help
    Juan Manuel

    Juan,
Allow me to explain a bit further to clarify some of the terminologies used which might cause confusion.
Cisco VPN router can terminate the following types of tunnels.
    a. Lan to Lan tunnels
    b. Dynamic Lan to Lan tunnels
    c. VPN clients terminations
    d. Easy VPN clients terminations
    a & b, are very similar
    c & d, are very similar
except - option c uses the VPN clients (software) installed on the PC or a MAC systems
Option d, uses hardware to connect to the IOS routers. You can use a Cisco Router or a PIX firewall or a 3002 or ASA to connect to the Cisco router which would be acting as an IOS Easy VPN server. And the device connecting to the Easy VPN server is called as a Easy VPN client.
Hope this explains the terminologies a bit more in detail.
To answer your question, Security Feature does allow support for Easy VPN client and server.
And what you are trying to accomplish is option c. So, the security feature option should work out well for you.
    Hope this explains your queries.

  • Cisco VPN Client installation freezes on Windows 7

    Hello,
I am in need of some help installing the Cisco VPN Client on a Windows 7 workstation.
    Here are some details:
    Cisco VPN Client Version: 5.0.07.0410
Operation System: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit, version 6.1, build 7600
PC Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T42, Type 2373-7WE
    Issue Description:
I attempted to install the Cisco VPN Client on the computer with the local administrator account in Windows 7. The computer was given a clean installation of Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (Existing HDD partitions were deleted and formatted). After the OS installation, I installed the network driver via Windows Update, and proceeded to run the installation for the Cisco VPN Client. The installation apears to proceed smoothly until the installation progress indicator reaches the point where it states that it is installing the "Deterministic Network Enhancer." Shortly reaching this point, the Windows CPU Usage monitor reaches 100% and the operating system freezes.
I have tried the following actions, which failed to successfully install the software:
    a) Installing Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00.0340 produced the same problem.
    b) Reformatted the hard drive, installed Windows 7, and tried to install the Cisco VPN Client again, but failed.
    c) Used Windows 7 System Restore to restore OS state prior to the installation of the Cisco VPN Client. Then, ran Citrix's winfix.exe tool. After that, I ran Citrix's dneupdate.msi program for 32-bit Windows operating systems, but that also crashed the OS mid-way through the installation/update.
    d) This URL from Citrix (http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp) suggested changing a Windows registry key, then try re-installing the Cisco VPN Client. However, that did not work.
I am at a loss as to how to resolve this issue. If anyone can provide some suggestions or a solution to this issue, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Regards,
    Samson
