VPN / DNS Settings on Time Capsule

Afternoon Board!
I've recently appled up after my Samsung died.  Got myself a 13" Macbook Pro and a 3TB Time Capsule for the wireless.   I'm based out in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and the internet is heavily censored along with not being able to download UK content for my Xbox360.
I get round the internet censorship by using a VPN (Overplay.net), however I've recently read that it's possible to sack the VPN completely if I play around with the DNS settings.  The VPN also heavily throttles the internet speed (we god own from 16mb/s to around 3mb/s when using the VPN)
I'd prefer to do this on the Time Capsule itself, since then any other device using the Time Capsue (our mobiles, Ipads, Xbox, Apple TV etc), would then automatically be able to use the interweb as if based in the UK.
However, I have no idea where to start with this, and would really appreciate any help you could provide.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Did you try changing the dns directly in the aztech.. that is the easiest way.
You must be using it as a router.
Change the primary dns server for whatever dns service you want to use.
The TC is then in bridge mode.
Is your TC the latest AC wireless version?
If so you might find you are stuck.. I fixed up an earlier version TC to give the right DNS to clients for watching overseas TV but that is using the v5 utility. Since this is now not possible in the latest TC you might be stuck.. do you have a PC in the network.. you might find you can change it using the 5.6.1 utility from windows.. but I do not have latest version TC to check.

  • VPN Services and Airport Time Capsule

I just got a 3TB AirPort Time Capsule that I am trying to get hooked up with a VPN provider.  I live in Germany, so by default, my internet is German.  I want to use a service like Private Internet Access, Strong VPN, etc. so all of my internet traffic is rerouted as though it is coming from the US.  I currently have Unblock-us which uses Smart DNS.  This works well for things like Netflix and Hulu, but doesn't do anything for even google.
Is there a good service that will do what I want and can I set it up on my TC so all of my devices (MBP, Mac Mini, 2 Apple TVs, 2 iPhones, and 2 iPads) are covered?  I'm pretty computer savvy, but VPNs are new to me.

I have a Mac Mini that I keep on always and is connected to the TC via ethernet cable.  We use it primarily to store pictures, movies, and music, and to stream videos to Apple TV.  Is there a way to use that computer in place of the second router and still have it be a functioning part of my home network?
The answer is Yes.. but it is complicated.
You need to understand once you open a vpn tunnel to another location your client is then part of another network. Setting up vpn access and still requiring local access at the same time, means you will need to use secondary IP settings on the ethernet or use a secondary network connection, eg the wireless.
It means you cannot run dhcp .. it will need to be setup with fixed IP and it will then depend on all kinds of stuff how it works. I have done it.. it worked.. but it wasn't as stable as I would have liked. If what you want is to put the computer on the vpn and then route packets back to your standard network.. I think you will be in trouble. Still, as with many of these kinds of setups the only way to progress is to play around.
Have you signed up to a vpn service?
Tell me which one so I can look up their setup info.
Have you setup the vpn tunnel to the service and got it working?
Getting vpn tunnel working on one client is always the first major step to getting them running.. Once you do that, you can see about what is involved in sharing that to the rest of the network.
Once you do that I need to see some info about the IP you get and how to set routing from vpn to the rest of the network.. but I would suggest the Apple TV is going to need to be directly connected to the mini so you can set it as part of the same network subnet.
I need your current full network setup.. what broadband service do you have? What modem router is supplied by your ISP? Is the TC working as the main router?
In your unblockus setup how do you have the dns setup?
Going back to your original post, I need to understand what you are really trying to achieve.
This works well for things like Netflix and Hulu, but doesn't do anything for even google.
Blocking google public DNS is necessary part of getting Netflix to work nowadays and there are methods to do that. Is that what your problem is??
However if you actually want to completely tunnel to the US it is rather different.

  • DNS Issues with Time Capsule - DNS Proxy periodically dies

hi all .... looking for some suggestions
I have a time capsule 1TB, connected to a linksys adsl modem in bridge mode, with the TC acting as DHCP server for my local clients. In the PPPoE settings I also enter the primary and secondary addresses for DNS that my ISP supplied.
I am able to successfully connect to the internet, and all clients successfully pick up an IP address, and each client picks up the TC as the DNS proxy. Everything works perfectly as it should.
Usually once per day, there seems to be a slight hickup with the internet connection (hard to tell whether I am losing the PPPoE or some other issue). When this happens, the PPPoE connection remains active, as I am able to access anything on the internet from an IP level. However, the DNS proxy service on the TC seems to die and as a result, all internet browsing fails. If I reboot the TC, everything comes back to normal. If I dont reboot, the only way to get browsing working is to manually enter the DNS IP address from ISP into the client PCs. However, this is a manual fix that I should not have to perform.
Looking for advice and guidance. Seems like a bug but I cant tell. If I was able to set the DHCP server to pass out the ISP supplied addresses that would also work, but I cant.

Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
The dead proxy is very clear:
    $ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
    ** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
    $ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

  • VPN Lion Server over Time Capsule

    Hi,
well i have a small office of four iMacs and some MBooks, and one mac mini runing os x lion server, all connected with a linksys router. The point is we want to start runing VPN to get access to the intranet website when out of the office. As we checked on apple´s airport reviews it is easy to configure the vpn using a time capsule.
    Any one has tried it?

You may have issues.. due to BTMM using ipsec which is hidden into the firmware of the TC and AEBS some people have issues.. PPTP should be ok.
It seems like Apple ignore things like vpn in their testing.. some firmware work and some  don't.
But if you are using the Linksys router.. how does the TC come into the picture??

  • Network settings in Time Capsule

I have messed up my Internet settings in my Time Capsule. I can connect to it wirelessly, but I can't connect to the Internet
How do I recover my settings from yesterday using Time Machine?

Connect the computer directly to the modem.. by ethernet .. you should then be able to download the utility.
If not press and hold the reset for 10sec in TC.. start again.. Your backups are not deleted.. that requires a deliberate erase from the utility. But you will truly wipe out your previous setup if the profile was not stored.
You cannot save profiles from vs6 as it doesn't know what profiles are even.
In 5.6 assuming it is like 5.5 just go to the top menu bar.. File.. export configuration file.. voila.

  • VPN app on Airport Time Capsule??

I live overseas and want to be able to access American websites.  I have VPNShield, but I don't know how to put it on my Airport Time Capsule. HELP!!

You cannot .. you need to plug a vpn client machine or router into the Apple router.. it has no vpn ability built in but will do passthrough.. ie it allows vpn to work.

  • Slow DNS Resolution using Time Capsule

    Hello,
I'm using a time capsule as my main internet router and wireless access point, and I've noticed a significant delay before web pages begin to download.  In trying to troubleshoot this, I came across a very helpful utilitity called the Netalyzr from Berkley.  Using this tool, I'm able to see that there is a significant delay in name lookups using the time capsule DNS proxy capability.  There's not a lot of documentation on this, but it appears that instead of handing clients the designated DNS servers configured in DHCP, it hands out its own address to the clients as the DNS server and makes the DNS request to the configured servers.  I've included the verbage from the Netalyzer tool below.
Your ISP's DNS resolver requires 2200 msec to conduct an external lookup. It takes 81 msec for your ISP's DNS resolver to lookup a name on our server.
This is particularly slow, and you may see significant performance degradation as a result.
As you can see, this causes almost a 2.5 second "pause" before the lookup is even returned.  However, if I hard code the designated DNS servers into this client (Macbook air running Lion), I get the following result.
Your ISP's DNS resolver requires 110 msec to conduct an external lookup. It takes 81 msec for your ISP's DNS resolver to lookup a name on our server.
This is a significant improvement over the lookup using the proxy capabilities of the Time Capsule.  This leads me to believe that the DNS "proxying" that the time capsule is doing is really slow.
I'm using opendns as my provider in both scenarios.
Is this a known issue, and if so, is there an existing fix or a planned fix for this?
    Best,
    Eric

Frankly I just don't believe those analysers.. not until I can prove it myself.
    Do a very simple test..
Open terminal  and ping a website you have never opened before.
You should do this from a PC or Mac on the network using ethernet. Just to keep crummy wireless responses out of it. And do it without internet activity going on.
Do it a second time, and it should be instantaneous now having the address resolved and held in the cache.
If you get a significant lag before the address is resolved to actual IP, there maybe something wrong. And the first test then would be to change the DNS server to your local ISP not opendns.. because the routing to opendns might also be an issue.
You can also test by removing the TC from the network..plug a computer directly to the modem and just browse.. compare that to speed with the TC. I know it isn't exactly scientific but a 2.5sec delay in dns resolution you will notice it. It is important to connect to stuff that is outside your normal pattern. Otherwise it should just be in the cache.
Otherwise it is unlikely to really exist.

  • Language settings in Time Capsule

Hello, I'm currently stationed in China and I'm thinking to get a Time Capsule from the Apple Store here. I'd like to know if it is possible to change time capsule's language to English? I'm assuming that the default language will be Chinese. Is there such an option to change the display language?

Connect the computer directly to the modem.. by ethernet .. you should then be able to download the utility.
If not press and hold the reset for 10sec in TC.. start again.. Your backups are not deleted.. that requires a deliberate erase from the utility. But you will truly wipe out your previous setup if the profile was not stored.

  • VPN server and Time Capsule

I am having problems accessing a VPN server behind a Time Capsule.
I have enabled the VPN server on a Mac Mini running 10.5.8, using iVPN. It is configured for PPTP, and to assign addresses in the range 10.0.1.21/30. The Mini has a static IP address on the local network (10.0.1.20).
Using another machine (MacBook running 10.6) on the network, I log-in to the VPN using the 10.0.1.20 address. The MacBook is configured to route all traffic through the VPN. This works without problems. I am able to access the internet and things on the local network.
Then... I change the settings to use the external IP address from my ISP. The connection establishes, but I am not able to see anything. The connection drops after ~5 mins. Looking at the vpnd log, authentication has gone well but there after it reports 0 bytes sent/received. Connecting using an iPhone over 3G gives similar results.
I suspect that Time Capsule is the cause of my problems. But I don't know what I need to change. Currently, I am directing the TCP port 1723 to the Mini. The Time Capsule is set for "Share a public IP address". The firmware version is 7.4.2.
As a diagnostic, I opened port 80 and directed it to the Mini. On the Mini I enabled the web server. I can see the test page both on the LAN, and also externally.
For completeness I also tried forwarding the UDP ports used by L2TP to the Mini. No difference.

You may need to enable your OS X Server as the Default Host in AirPort Utility. Under Internet > NAT > Enable default host at:, put your server's IP address (it should be statically-assigned using DHCP Reservations in the DHCP tab). This will forward all unsolicited traffic to your server, so make sure the Firewall is up and running before you do this.
The problem is that PPTP and L2TP/IPSec VPNs require special "tunneling protocols" in addition to the standard TCP/UDP ports that are configured through AirPort Utility. PPTP requires a "GRE Protocol", and L2TP requires an "ESP Protocol", neither of which are generally routable with standard firewall configuration utilities. The way around this is to make the OS X Server the default host, which will forward all traffic -- including GRE and ESP --- to the server machine where the VPN service can receive it.
Sadly, the documentation with the AirPort Extreme / Time Capsule is sorely lacking in this department, and has been for some time. Hope this helps, though!

  • My Working Solution: 1 Time Capsule + 2 AEBs on One Network

Over the past two weeks, I have probably spent 10+ hours messing around with one Time Capsule and 2 AEBs in an attempt to create a single roaming network. I tried everything and I searched for hours on the forums for solutions. Thanks to many others for posting tid bits here and there, I was at least able to try things I hadn't tried before. In the end, I never found a perfect answer and I even spent time on the phone with Apple. Finally, after coming close to throwing every one of these devices at the wall, I took at step back and waited a few days and came up with a solution that works perfectly for me - as of today, it's been three days without any glitch. Keep in mind though that I have the luxury of having a wired house and I have the option of running ethernet cable from one device to the other as my mechanism for "extending" the network. What I needed was the ability to walk around the house freely with wireless devices such as our iPhone, MacBook Air and my work laptop...
What I don't know is whether or not the approach I took has performance issues or if it's supported by Apple or if I am in for a sudden surprise so take my solution for what it's worth... Here is what I did...
*General Advice for Clearing out AEB/TC Settings*
    - Power device on - wait till it goes through a solid and then a slow blinking amber light
    - Once the device has powered up, do a hard reset (new models - push reset for 5 seconds until it blinks rapidly
    - Wait until the full power up cycle completes - slow blinking amber light
    - Unplug the device, wait a few seconds and plug back in, waiting until full cycle
I can not stress how important above is - just doing a hard reset will NOT clear out all your settings and you will be left with random crap that could impact your setup. This was one of the key pieces I was missing and a great apple tech helped me out
Also - start simple... no printer hookup, no extra network devices, just one computer, one TC/AEB and the internet. Add on from there. Based on this, I setup things as follows
    1. Time Capsule - verified internet, etc
    2. AEB #1 - again verified internet, etc.
    3. AEB #2
Finally, the latest TC/AEB updates provided by Apple did appear to help - not sure exactly how but the process of setting up my 2nd AEB was easier and I ran into many less issues...
    *Internet Solution:*
    - Comcast Cable Modem
    - Hooked up directly to the WAN port of my Time Capsule
    - DHCP based solution, per Comcast setup
    *Time Capsule*
    - Version 7.3.1
    - Acts as my main Hub, DNS Server and Router
    - Name: used three words all separated with - (no spaces). Ex: my-time-capsule
    - Wireless Mode
    -- Create a wireless Network
    -- Network Name: Z-Autobahn
-- Yes to Allow network to be extended
    -- 802.11n only (5 GHZ)
    -- Security WPA2 Personal
-- Under Options: Changed Multicast to 24Mbps
    - Internet
-- Used Ethernet, DHCP as Comcast requires
-- Connection Sharing: Share a public IP Address
    - DHCP
-- Leveraged default network / submasks 10.0.1.1 as my router, dishing out 10.0.1.2 and beyond
-- Reser*ved two DHCP reservations - one for each AEB 10.0.1.2 and 10.0.1.1
    *AEB #1*
Here is the key difference - I did NOT use WDS or the Extend Network option. I had problem after problem with these options and although I can not confirm, I believe both of these leverage wireless to extend your range vs. ethernet. I also believe this is the reason folks say to NOT use the WAN port with this type of configuration
    Base Station
    - Named similar to TC: my-aeb-mb (where mb was a location identifier)
    - WAN port is hooked up directly to one of the LAN ports of my Time Capsule
    - Wireless Mode
-- Create a wireless Network (NOT WDS or Extend)
-- Network Name: Z-Autobahn (same as TC settings)
-- Yes to Allow network to be extended
    -- 802.11n only (5 GHZ)
-- Security WPA2 Personal (exact same security setup and password)
-- Under Options: Changed Multicast to 24Mbps
    - Internet
    -- Used Ethernet and Manually
-- IP Address: 10.0.1.2 (matches what I reserved from the DHCP settings of time capsule)
    -- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (vs. default 255.255.0.0)
    -- DNS Server 10.0.1.1
-- Connection Sharing: off (Bridge Mode)
    *AEB #2*
I followed the exact same process as AEB #1 with the exception of the following 2 settings
    - Name: my-aeb-lr
    - IP Address: 10.0.1.3 (matches what I reserved from DHCP settings of time capsule)
    *Other Random Thoughts*
Prior to setting up above, I experienced a ton of issues - network would drop, an AEB would disappear, random instability, you name it. Above setup has worked well for a few days now.
I also have a bit of a more complex setup - there is actually a full switch running in between the TC and the AEBs but this should be irrelevant. I just happen to have a full wired house. I am sure someone will ask my the **** I even borrowed with above - the answer is simple. Ports are great when you know exactly where your computer or network device is going to be BEFORE your house is built.
All my machines (with the exception of my work laptop) are setup with a WINS workgroup called "workgroup" so that I can share between my macs and my pcs. You don't need to mess with this if you are all mac.
    *Quick Note on Windows XP*
By default, Windows XP does NOT support WPA2 which means you can't use a true 802.11n solution at 5ghz. You can download a hot fix for SP2 from Microsoft. The KB article is: 893357 and can be downloaded from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893357. This is NOT an issue with Windows Vista.
Finally - I am not a network expert but I work in the SW industry. I would love to get thoughts from someone that is really experienced in networking to help me understand if I did something that is screwed up. Things seem to work for me.

I realized I only used the abbreviation AEB vs. Airport Extreme. Caught this after the 15 minute edit restriction. Added in case folks are searching by Airport Extreme. In addition, the solution I setup is a Roaming Network solution vs. "one network". Enjoy!

  • Swapped From Time Capsule TO Airport Express - Constant Drop Outs

I recently switched my main network from Time Capsule to my Airport Express so I could play music etc... But since then every few hours I'll get an error saying the Time Capsule can't connect, then maybe 20 minutes later both the Airport Express and Time Capsule eventually start flashing yellow... If I leave it all overnight it just seems to fix itself or if I turn it off/on it all fixes itself... I have always had strange issues with Airport Express even one I had 2 years ago... But Time Capsule when I bought it I never had any dramas, the only reason I switched is so I could listen to music wirelessly... Are there any settings in Airport Express that I would need to look at? And also do I need to update any of my settings in Time Capsule to make it work better with Airport Express?

These are the logs if there is a guru out there who can see an issue would be much appreciated!

  • How do I use my Time Capsule for backup without making it my router?

I've always used my Time Capsule as my internet router (paired with my Time Warner modem) and I've also used it to back up my computer.   I just got a new modem, it was a nightmare to set up, and it's supposed to have very fast internet.  It's a Time Warner modem / router.  In order to set this up and get a new wifi, I had to disconnect my Time Capsule.
Now I would like to connect my time capsule again to back up my computer, but to avoid messing with the internet or changing it again (I may as well try the new one), I DON'T want to continue using my TC as a router.   how do I go about doing this?  Do I continue to have it connect to the modem via ethernet or do I just plug it into the power source and that's it?
If someone could walk me through the process it would be so appreciated!

    Hi Alexandra,
The article linked below details how to go about settings your Time Capsule up as a bridge, which effectively disables all routing functionality (NAT and DHCP services are disabled on the Time Capsule as they will be handled by your ISP's modem/router), and should allow you to utilize Time Machine without affecting your existing network.

  • Time Capsule won't connect to network after factory reset

    Hello
I have reset my time capsule back to factory settings, After this was completed the time capsule will no longer connect to my network.
When airport utility is launched the app will search for the time capsule. Then when the app is gathering information at the reading previous settings stage air port utility quits unexpectedly (There is a report, this can be attached if any one needs it)
The light on the time capsule is flashing amber.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Im running a mac book pro with lion 10.7.3
    Cheers Dan

If you reset the Time Capsule back to Factory Default Settings, the Time Capsule is now broadcasing a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxxx.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and make sure that you are logged onto that network....no password is required.
    Then, open AirPort Utility.
You should see the xxxxxx number displayed in the upper left hand corner of the window when you click on Other AirPort Base Stations
Or, if you do not want to connect using wireless for the configuration, temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the three LAN <-> ports on the back of the Time Capsule and then open AirPort Utility.
If you still experience issues, check to make sure that you are following Apple's instructions for the default reset in this support document:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
We have also seen reports from users about difficulties with the new version of AirPort Utility.
Download and install the full feature version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion to see if that will work.

  • My time capsule change the time on ALL my files by one hour.

On the 29th December all the files on my time capsule went out of sync with my mac by one hour. I use it for backup. I have other backups on a Lacie drive and these were all OK but because it went forward in time my syncronise software saw them all as changes and started copying from the time capsule to my iMac. I stopped it and after recovering the damage it had done I proceeded to copy ALL my data back to the time capsule to reset the syncronise error.
Its been OK since then but this morning it all went wrong again. It started by my backup failing because the network share was not accessable so I went into my backup scripts(chronosync) and reselected the backup drive. I then did a trial sync and lo and behold the whole lot is back out of sync again and this time they have gone back in time.
Did we enter British summer time in the middle of winter or did the earth tilt on its access and caused the UK to be in The NEtherlands? Or did Apple do something that I cant resolve.
Anyone else having similar problems? Ive been googling this and thought I had found it by installing Airport Uitlity 5.6 but I cant do that as I have upgraded all my machines to MOuntain Lion and its not compatible. I think on 5.6 you can adjust the time zone setting.
I need to tell the time capsule which time zone it is in and all shoudl be OK

    Bob
Thanks for that   - Airport utility 5.6 is now working but I cannot see anything wrong. It possibly went wrong on the 29th December and has just gone back to normal again so I think I will have to let the backup recopy all the files.
I looked in the logs and found
No Address for NTP server time.apple.com. and then on Jan 08 at 09:49:38 I got
Clock synchronized to network time server time.apple.com (adjusted +3597 seconds). (thats my hour!!!)
Question no is why - could be a DNS problem but why on the 29th and back on the 8th Jan.
Nothing changed in my network router, maybe something at the ISP.
Anyway now copying all the data back to the time capsule.
By the way I have my DNS as my router 192.168.1.1 and 208.67.222.222 - when I look at my router the DNS is 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 which is what my ISP told me to use. Maybe I should put 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 in the DNS for the time capsule?

  • Restore from Time Capsule fails

I'm trying to restore from my Time Capsule backup over ethernet. I've tried with two different cat5e cables, but each time it goes extremely slowly, (it only gets to .4% after an hour and says it'll take 600 hours). After about an hour it fails and this is the crash log:

Okay, I did what you said and I'm currently transferring files using Migration Assistant. Currently it's 10:40, and the Migration Assistant has been on this screen for over an hour: http://tyznik.com/misc/migration.png I opened up the console and this is the last message in the console:
    7/5/10 9:00:59 PM [0x0-0xe00e].com.apple.MigrateAssistant[142] 2010-07-05 21:00:59.505 MigrateTool[151:4207] SltFS(off) : (/private/var/db/shadow/hash/5FA3CF8B-0705-4390-95B9-BA7D8C782900) on sys (/Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/Purple Hoohaa/2010-07-04-161204/Macintosh HD) --> /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/Purple Hoohaa/2010-07-04-161204/Macintosh HD/private/var/db/shadow/hash/5FA3CF8B-0705-4390-95B9-BA7D8C782900
Which is almost two hours ago, and the messages were coming every second or two before that. I'm not sure what the problem is this time.
That is a bit odd. The file it's referring to (/private/var/db/shadow/hash/xxx) is in a hidden system folder at the top level of your internal HD.
In my installation, /private/var/db/shadow/ is an empty folder, so I have no idea what it is.
Although when I open SystemMigration.log, these lines are updating:
    2010-07-05 22:52:36 -0400 (Nop) throughput = 0.628692 MB/s. (+ 2041 files)
so I take that to mean it's copying files.
Looks like it, and the timestamp is after the previous one.
Is that a normal throughput, though?
Hard to tell. I haven't done a large migration in quite a while (not since Leopard, I think), and I wasn't watching the log.
How much data was on your system? Deduct perhaps 10 GB for OSX, and a few more for Applications. See how long that would take at about 20 GB/hr.
I'd let it alone for quite a while (longer than 20 GB/hr). But if you decide it's hung, cancel it and see how far it got.
You should be able to figure out where it was when it hung, and start over with the next top-level folder, then work on the missing items later.
But before you start again, repair your backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Hang in there. You are making progress, whether it feels like it or not.
It's getting late here, and I'll be going to bed in a while, so if you post after that, I won't answer until tomorrow.
    But do keep us posted.
