VPN in a local network connected to another free network (wrt54gl)

Hi,
The schem is the next: I want to connect my laptop to my house local network throught VPN, in my house I have another router that will be connected in a free network throught an antenna.
I would be interested in mount a VPN and see the free network and navigate throught it, I have a linksys wrt54gl with no usage now. ¿How can I do this? ¿How?
PD. Nowdays i don't have the anntena connected to the free network, but I projected it for connecting in few weeks.

Thanks!

This forum site is totally dedicated for Linksys devices not using 3rd party firmware Like Tomato and DDWRT. So it would be better if you post your query in on this other site. http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?forums/tomato-firmware.33/
Hopefully, somebody can help you with your network setup.

    Hi there,

Lately, when I click connect, the ftp dialogue pops
up rather than the "connect to server" dialogue. I

When you say "when I click connect" what are you clicking on?
What happens if you press command + K and in the connect to server window enter the server's IP address?

  • Configuring Cisco ASA for site to site VPN ( Issue with setting up local network)

OK, so our primary firewall is a checkpoint gateway. Behind that we have a cisco ASA for vpn users. I have a project at the moment where we need to connect to another company using site to site VPN through the cisco ASA, as the checkpoint gateway is unable to establish a permanent tunnel with the other companies Cisco ASA.
What would be the best practise for setting up the local network on my side? Create the network on the ASA and then use a L2 vlan to connect to the Core switch?
Setup a L3 interface on the core switch and point it towards the checkpoint gateway which would then point to the ASA?
When you have to select your local network through the site to site wizard do you have to put the inside network address of the ASA?
Our network is setup like this: Access layer switch > Core 6500 Switch > Checkpoint-Firewall > Internet
The ASA is connected to a checkpoint sub interface
Any help would be beneficial as im new to cisco ASAs
    Thanks

If we understood more about your environment we might be able to give you better answers. My initial reaction was similar to the suggestion from Michael to use a L2 vlan. But as I think a bit more my attention is drawn to something that you mention in the original post. The ASA is there for VPN users. If the VPN users need to access your internal network then you probably already have something configured on the ASA that allows access to the internal network. Perhaps that same thing might provide access for your site to site VPN?

  • VPN Server with two router local network

I just got a Mac Mini Server 2011 to set up as a home server. One of the main features I want to use is a VPN so I can access my files on my local network when I'm away from home. I live in Japan and I have a Japanese optical connection to the internet that runs through two boxes before I can use it in any form: some sort of modem, and a "gateway" which I literally just found out is also acting as a router and serving DHCP addresses. In addition, I have a 2TB Time Capsule that, until just recently, I had been using in the "Share a Public IP" mode because I didn't realize the gateway was also issuing DHCP addresses. I cannot simply plug my TC into the modem in place of the gateway - both are required to access the internet.
Until today I had both routers using DHCP on the local networks they each created. Under that environment, I had finally configured Lion Server to file share (easy), manage network accounts (moderate), and serve Profile Manager (difficult). But despite my best efforts at mapping the ports on the Time Capsule, I just couldn't get the ports open using tools like canyouseeme.org, so the VPN was a no-go. That's when I realized the gateway could be a router too, so with some creative google searches, and extensive use of google translate, I was able to figure out how to open ports on the gateway. It does it pretty differently from the Time Capsule and other routers I've seen. It asks you define the host on the LAN (what i assume to be the target IP), the protocol (TCP vs. UDP), and then a range of ports for it to open. I plugged in the IP of the Time Capsule, opened all the UDP ports (since it was an option to just open all, and I figured 1) the TC would still protect my network and 2) it would just be a test), but I still couldn't see the ports as being open.
So then I got desperate, and I switched the TC back to Bridge Mode, reconfigured the Server and my MBP (my client Mac) to the new IP addresses being served by the Japanese gateway, and tried again. I think I reconfigured the DNS settings in Server Admin properly to account for the change in IP, and then updated the services in Server.app, but now I can't even get to my server homepage (the apple placeholder page) using either its IP or its .private domain, and to make matters worse, I STILL can't seem to get the ports open (yes, I changed the port mapping to send it directly to the server IP as the target after the change).
To add insult to injury, the wired ethernet connection I had been running from my TC to the MM Server is now reporting a cable unplugged (it's not), even when I plug it directly into the gateway, though I am able to connect wirelessly.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Why can't I get these ports open? (By the way, I called my ISP and they said they aren't blocking any of the ones I'd want to use for VPN.)
What is the *better* set up - using the TC as a second LAN, serving its own DHCP addresses, or using it in Bridge mode?
Why did these changes sever my wired connection?
I was getting even more problems (like loss of internet connectivity on all devices) using the TC in bridge mode, so I decided to go back to the dual network setup.

    Hello Eric,
    As I mentioned above.
For external Internet access, I would create a Generation
    1 VM
and use 2 Legacy Network Adapters for
the Interfaces . Connect it to the External and Internal network, and then install VM Linux IPFire (How
    to install) and
configure IPFire with RED and GREEN interface.
You don't need router or any firewall.
I have the same set-up that you are trying to do in your lab and it's working great.
All my VMs / computers on the LAN have their gateway the Linux VM.
    Hope this help.

  • I have 2 lan connections, 1 connect to local network server and other to internet, how do i configure firefox to open website on my local network connection and internet also

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/812283''
I have 2 local area connections in my computer, one connects to local office network server and another to the internet. when i use firefox i want to configure it to use it to connect to my local office network server website which has address as http://199.123.9.1 and also internet web address simultaneously,

I found the solution, myself, you need to go to network settings and then select manual proxy setting and provide the ip address of the internet server . that's all
"it is not OS setting up problem, around DNS and routing Problems." as stated by you,
    anyway thanks.

  • Printing issues to local network when AnyConnect VPN in use

I have situation where I have a user connecting to the corporate office from her home network using a Win7 laptop and AnyConnect VPN 3.1.01065. She has an IP HP printer on her local network. When she is connected via VPN, she cannot print to her printer, Win saying the printer is off-line. That said, we are allowing access to the remote local network with a "split-exlude" conifiguration on the ASA:
access-list LocalLANAccess standard permit host 0.0.0.0
    group-policy DfltGrpPolicy attributes
    vpn-tunnel-protocol ssl-client
    split-tunnel-policy excludespecified
    split-tunnel-network-list value LocalLANAccess
"Allow local (LAN) access when using VPN" in the AC preference tab is checked. And also, she can ping the local printer when connected via VPN. however, the printer appears off-line, from the laptop perspective, when the VPN is on, and will go back "on-line" when the VPN is disconnected.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to correct this?

Well, if you want a workaround to apply for all VPN Client then you need to go for split-tunnel-policy tunnelspecified instead of split-tunnel-policy excludespecified. Suppose if your corporate network is 10.0.1.0/24 and you want to give the access to this subnet for vpn users.then configuration will be as follows.
    access-list CorporateLAN standard permit 10.0.1.0 255.255.255.0
    group-policy DfltGrpPolicy attributes
    vpn-tunnel-protocol ssl-client
    no split-tunnel-policy excludespecified
    split-tunnel-policy tunnelspecified
    split-tunnel-network-list value CorporateLAN
This will solve the problem globally

  • I can see my laptop on the local network, but cannot connect to it

I run my MacBook Pro on a couple of different local networks, at work and at home. When on another computer on the network, I can see the MacBook in the Shared section of the Finder, but when I try to connect to it, it just hangs. An external party who used to be able to connect to my computer for troubleshooting our business software (using a program called Timbuktu) can no longer connect to my laptop either. When on the MacBook however, I can see and connect to other Shared computers without a problem. I have File Sharing enabled. Is there a security preference I am missing somewhere?

  • How do I add a printer connected to another iMac on the network to my printer list?

How do I add an Epson printer connected to an iMac on the network to the printer list on my MacBook Pro? I cannot get it to show up in the list for printers to add.

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

  • How can I  connect to SQL server database thru local network by using JSP?

I'm currently doing a project by using JSP..And I need to display record from the SQL Server database in our school's local network. May I know how can I do that? How can I write the code so that I can able to access the SQL Server databsase Throught school's network by using JSP? Please tell me step by step how can I do that. I'm using Tomcat 4.1 as Web Server. And I had J2SE and J2EE installed in my computer.

first you have to establish a ODBC DSN on your computer,
that connects to the database...you can do that from your control pannel.
i assume that the TOMCAT server is residing on your computer....(if the webserver is in other computer then you would have to create a System DSN on the data sources ODBC option in the settings>control pannel of that machine)
then you can use that DSN name to connect to the data base from the class file....for further assistance on how to create the class that access the tutorials in sun site.

  • Lookout connect PLC through local network

Hello, I am a new Lookout user.
Can I connect my PLC (with Modbus TPC module) with my PC (with Lookout) through the local network (i.e. connecting them by a switch box or router)?
We need to monitor our system but we don't want to put our PC on site. We are planning to setup a switch box on site and connect it to PLC with Modbus TPC module. Is it possible?

It is a networking problem. Actually Lookout doesn't know if there is a switch or not. Lookout just uses the ip address and port to make the connection. So you need to be able to ping the remote Modbus device's ip address and the port is not blocked.

  • IPhone no longer connects to my computer over local network through apps

I've been trying to fix this for months. I've worked with technology and Apple computers for three years. I am by no means an expert but you can believe me when I say I've tried all the basics.
I first noticed the problem using FullControl. I liked to use this first thing in the morning. One morning it wouldn't connect, "Error: Connection error (22)." I hadn't updated or changed anything. I actually put my computer to sleep the night before using the app! I was on the local network. My computer was running the helper. My computer was showing up as a device in the app. But it would not connect. I figured something was wrong with the app.
So I opened up Splashtop 2. My iMac showed up in my list but with a satelite icon informing me it was not connecting on the local network. I was still on my wifi as was my computer. I used it earlier that week.
I checked out the support pages for both apps. I updated everything. I turned off, on, and checked the connections for my firewall. I turned off my security applications and followed guides to remedy blocks they might cause. Nothing worked.
I checked Apple discussions and found people having similar issues but no one had a fix. A few found success but nothing worked for me.
A few days later I went to use my Remote app. My iTunes Library showed up in the local devices but it would not connect, "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library. Check your network settings and try again." I checked. Tried again. "Could not find [my] Library." I went back to the devices and connected to my Apple TV 2 instantly. I tried connecting my iMac with the Apple TV and found no issues. Each communicated with the other fine. I tried to connect Remote to my iTunes again but it failed.
I verified and repaired my permissions. I thought the "SUID... ARDAgent.app... [permission] has been modified and will not be repaired" could've been the problem but Apple and these Discussions assure me that this is normal and not a problem.
I recently downloaded Air Playit and ran into the same problem. I set it up on my computer following the instructions. I opened the app. The app showed my computer as a "Computer on Local Network" but when I tried to connect to server, "Connect Server Failed: Cannot connect the server, check the IP, Port and try again." I did and it didn't connect.
Save for this new app, everything worked before. Nothing has worked since that morning FullContol failed (including the new app).
Is there an answer out there?!
