VPN over FIOS stopped working

Running AnyConnect Cisco VPN on my employer-issued laptop. Has always been working fine, until several days ago.
Once I click Connect, it shows "Contacting (the connection)", and then after a few seconds, it goes straight to this error: "IPSec is VPN connection is terminated due to authentication failure or timeout." It never even prompts me for logon credentials.
I also have another computer issued by my client , which also runs Cisco VPN client. It failed at the same time.
Right now, I am using MIFI card (Verizon Jetpack), and VPN works fine on both computers.
My company's helpdesk worked with me to try a few things, to avail. I've also rebooted the router. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

After not trying the connection over the weekend and Monday, I tried again Tuesday night on my company's computer. The problem seems to have gone away. Haven't tested the other computer, but sure hope whatever caused it is there no more.

IP over Firewire stopped working

with the 10.5.2 update IP over Firewire stopped working. I tried this with 3 machines on my G4 server (still running Tiger) and 2 different Firewire cables. target disk mode still works, so it can't be the cable. I'd appreciate any input & ideas.

I figured this out. Shut down for 20 minutes or so. Turned the Macbook on and firewire IP workd.

I use VPN to connect to Cisco IPSec.
This used to work fine. Two days ago I noticed it stopped working.
Over the few days before I installed Server and used some services, but switched them off after using.
I used the DNS service and automated xcode build, but all switched off.
When trying to connect to Cisco IPSec VPN I now get some kind of timeout, with the following in my log:

Any suggestions on what I could possibly have broken and how to fix it? I need this VPN connection for work.

A guess, but could this be an issue with changed permissions somehow? Something seems to stop the password popup to show. And then authentication fails.

[SOLVED] Audio over HDMI stopped working? (Intel/i915)

My audio over HDMI was working fine until recently and I can't figure out what's stopped it from working... My configs haven't changed and aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav gives no errors, but no sound can be heard. There are no errors/messages in dmesg either.
My graphics card uses the Intel i915 chipset (Asus laptop).

Yeah I checked and everything is fine... this is really weird!
I've tested audio over HDMI on windows, so I know it's not the cable/HDMI port. I've looked through my pacman.log (I tend to update daily) and the only thing I can see which could affect it is a kernel update and intel-dri. I tried downgrading those and re-tested, to no avail.
I also installed pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa before it stopped working. This could have broken it, but I've since uninstalled them and replaced /etc/asound.conf with my original, so that rules those out; unless there is something else that pulse could have broken?

OS 2.1.0.1032: internet over bridge stopped working after upgrade

Hi
Before the upgrade to 2.1.x, I was able to connect the bridge to my BB phone and then use the regular browser to connect to the internet (NOT the Bridge Internet Browser). I could also send and receive emails with my internet email accounts and -some- (only some, not all) applications also had internet access over the bridge. This is now no longer possible/working - I get a "Your BB Smartphone is unable to establish a connection to the destination server".
I have upgraded the Bridge on my phone, and all BB mail, calendar etc works fine, including the new SMS function, but I really miss not being able to do my other emails on the move and having to go to the Bridge Browser (not a big deal, but it means managing 2 sets of bookmarks.
The only other change is that I also received a new phone from my company, a BB Bold 9900 (previously a 9700) with OS 7.1 bundle 1149 (v7.1.0.342).. My BB phone bridge version is 2.1.0.23
Any thoughts/advice?
EDIT: Should this work this way at all i.e. can anyone else access internet emails etc when bridged or was my previous experience a fluke?

is possible your carrier is blocking it, can you download it from here that will not have the limitation

Needs to go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendar > Show on App Selector > Phones Favorites and Recents and disable both of then
After go to phone app and clean recents calls, all of them.
Problem Solved.
Very very easy.
Then u can turn on the bottoms phone favorites and recents without problem.

VPN stopped working after OS X 10.9.4 update

Hi,
I had a VPN configured for work which has been working forever but stopped working after the 10.9.4 upgrade.
Very basic setup:
L2TP over IPSec
Server address filled out
Account name filled out
Authentication settings
User Authentication - password kept empty, so it prompts for password
Machine authentication through certificate - certificate selected
Advanced
IPv4 over PPP
IPv6 automatic
When connecting after the 10.9.4 update after I entered my password and hitting connect it always says: the L2TP server did not respond .... what changed?

L2tp Server VPN Stopped working

Hi all. My L2tp VPN has stopped working despite starting and stopping the service it doesn't seem to be accepting/responding to any connection attempts. It was working up until recently, my theory is that something got messed up when i was setting up a site to site vpn however i have since removed all the servers from s2svpnadmin. Also this is not a firewall issue as i have turned it off for testing. I can see the vpnd service running however when i port scan the machine it does not appear to have any l2tp services listening. I am wondering if there is a list of preferences that I can trash to revert the service to an original state so I can reconfigure it or any other steps I should take. OSX Server 10.4.10
Any Advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have been having the EXACT same problem with OS X Server 10.4.10 (on a Mac Pro). Interestingly enough I have had the VPN service running on 2 other servers, an Xserve G4 and G5 for over a year with absolutely no problems. I will try re-entering the shared secret and see if that helps but I also have begun to have the problem with PPTP as well as L2TP. Here is an excerpt from the log if this helps anyone. It just keeps going on and on, if someone wants to see the rest I can post it.

Sounds like a bogus pop up. In any case power down your Mac, your modem, your router. Then power back up in 1 minute sequence; modem, router, Mac.

I am having the same problem now also. It happened after I updated my version. I have NEVER had this problem before as a windows user and have had iTunes for 5 years. So, I would have to say it is an Apple problem. I have not changed anything on my computer. I still have Internet Explorer and I have not even updated windows. The only thing I updated was iTunes. Now, I am not getting any response from Apple and if you call you have to pay for support. What a joke. An iPod costs $400 you would think that after paying that much you would at least get some type of help. This will now be the last time I ever by anything apple.

When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why? Obviously the device is operational. Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn? If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

USB stop working over my eyes!

Bad news! One of the USB port on my ibook G4 (2004) stop working juste over my eye. I've put a memory stik in it and the computer was not able to mount it. I pull it out and When I try it again, no light. I've try my mouse in the port: notting!
The other one works fine.
What can I do ?????

I've shut down, remove the battery and wait for 5 minutes to "reset" the USB port, and now it is all fine.
Neverless, I'd really like to understant why that append and what dos it mean to "reset" a USB port...

VPN working fine.... then just stopped working!

Have posted this before, but was hoping that someone out there has experienced the same issue.
I setup the VPN on 10.6 McMini server and it worked really well for several weeks. Then all of a sudden (without any changes being made to the server) it just stopped working!
I cant get a VPN connection either on the internal network (so no routers involved here) or from external clients. Both of these worked before. Im convinced its def something to do with the server.
The error I get is PPP Server could not be authenticated.
Have tried restarting server, stopping and starting VPN service, turning L2TP and PPP of and on again, changed the shared key.. Checked the DNS with changeip and that is all good....
Hopefully soemone out there will be able to shed some light on this for me...

VPN just stopped working again!!!

I have had VPN working fine both internally (without going through a router) and also from external Pcs and Macs. This was working fine, until came back into office after weekend and the server had dropped all connections including AFP. Rebooting the clients for the AFP resolved this side of things but the VPN service now has the error "The L2TP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting. If problem continues verify your settings and contact your Administrator" I get this from both internal and external clients. So Im sure its not a router problem.
I had a probelm before with the PPTP connection, this again came about after working fine for ages... I solved this and then the VPN ws working fine until the L2TP-VPN error appeared.
Im not really sure where to look tbh with regards this... there have been no changes to routers, and in fact the internal VPN connections I had working dont use the router anyway. The external PCs that had a connection were using the PPTP protocol and now they cant connect either so it seems to be a general failure. Although I can get a connection for a short time using my iPhone VPN but this drops off after about a minute, and doesnt allow me to connect to any servers on network, which I could do before when it was all working fine.
Im at a loss with this VPN and hope that someone somewhere out there can help with this. Do Apple read these posts I wonder?

I found a TEMPORARY solution.
The short answer: "hard code" all DNS servers. No Automatic configurations.
I have observed that traffic is still route-able over the regular internet connection and to the remote network being accessed via Cisco IPSEC, only DNS is hurt!
To fix this you will have to "hard code" all DNS servers in your network configuration, DHCP and other automatic configurations will be ignored!
On the plus side, you will have all the IP addresses you need will be in your network interface's config as "soft" in a light grey font.
To get to a typical DNS configuration for an interface you will go into System Settings -> Network -> Click on a required interface --> Advanced button and then finally there will be a DNS tab. All you need to do is put that nice and soft IP address in by clicking the "+" button.
If your in a bit of a BIND, for a public DNS server (On your Airport or Ethernet interfaces) may I recommend Google's DNS server at 8.8.8.8 because it is very easy to remember. This will allow you to speed up your configuration by not having to even think of "192.168.0.1","10.0.0.1" or "234.245.12.333". (Good luck with that last one!)
Possibly Optional:
And as for your VPN interface, you will need to add your super secret domains into the "Search Domains" box by clicking on the "+". I have observed some odd behavior with adding these.
If you have issues with the above, you should setup a resolver configuration.
To do this you will have to do the following:
- Open up the terminal, type "sudo bash" and then enter your password.
- Make a directory with "mkdir /etc/resolver"
- Change the current directory to resolver with "cd /etc/resolver"
- Now you will have to create a file for each domain on the VPN you wish to access (yes pain, thankfully I only have a couple to setup). For this example I will use the domain "foo.com", so create the file by typing in "nano foo.com".
- Now fill the file with the following (note the almost bogus IP address) :
domain foo.com
nameserver 8.8.8.8 <-- change to your VPN's DNS server
- Hit "Control+x" to save and exit.
And then you should be OK.
It isn't ideal, but it is working for me at the moment.
BONUS:
Hopefully your host list isn't long, Edit /etc/hosts:
Company hostnames that exist on the public internet you will want to specify in your hosts file.
ie:
mail.your-company-email-hosted-by-google.com
VPN endpoints
Any other site you need outside the VPN
The reason for doing this is once you connect to vpnendpoint.foo.com, you may not be able to resolve it again because of the resolver config or the OS X DNS configuration. So re-connecting to the VPN without rebooting will be impossible, and in one case where I used the raw IP instead of a hostname!
Apple: you're not off the hook, please fix so we don't have to do this crap!
OH, and fix the **** key management issue! I am sick of re-entering my passwords and keys!!
