VPN: racoon crashes on ISO5

My VPN connection has stopped working after the upgrade to IOS5.
The phone only states "an unexpected error has occurred".

  • Cisco VPN client crashes with Error 51 on Intel Mac Mini

I am in the process of migrating from XP to Tiger on a brand-new Mac Mini (Intel Duo). Now I am stuck:
I use v 4.8.00 of the Cisco VPN client supplied by my university's IT dept. to connect to the Campus intranet. I have been unable to succesfully use this software, as it crashes upon initializing with "Error 51: Cannot connect to the VPN subsystem." Re-installing the software does not change the state of affairs.
After some research, I used a hack found here (http://www.versiontracker.com/php/feedback/article.php?story=20060107011305622 and http://www.versiontracker.com/php/feedback/article.php?story=20060107011305622) to manually restart the VPN daemon. The Terminal result looks like this:
kld(): warning /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext/Contents/MacOS/CiscoVPN cputype (18, architecture ppc) does not match cputype (7 architecture i386) of objects files previously loaded (file not loaded)
kextload: kldlookup("_kmodinfo") failed for module /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext/Contents/MacOS/CiscoVPN
kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext
    load failed for extension /System/Library/Extensions/CiscoVPN.kext
(run kextload with -t for diagnostic output)
Not being fluent in Darwin, I can only interpret this to mean that the VPN client is incompatible with the Intel chip in the Mac mini... Is this correct? Is the only way for me to use VPN to wait for a 4.8.x version to be made available?
    Hopeful still,
    felixx

Also - the Mac VPN system will work with most Cisco networking devices. You can open up the PCF profile that your IT group wants you to use and figure out most of the questions Internet Connect will ask you to set up the VPN connection. For the rest, you have to ask the IT group or try some things and see what works...
    cheers,
    Mike

  • Why frequent crashes after iso5 update on ipad1 and iphone3gs

After I updated to iso5 my ipad1 and iphone3gs are experiencing frequent crashes. I find that my wife's iphone4 and my daughter's 4s are working flawlessly.

I just purchased a brand new MacBook Air
I would recommend walking it directly in to the nearest Apple Store and logging your issue with staff there...don't wait.

  • VPN Duplicate Crashes Time Capsule

Recently I chaged my VPN from through Viscosity, which uses OpenVPN interface, to PPTP interface in System Preferences. However I started to notice a strange problem a few days ago. I was trying to connect to my VPN via my MacBook Pro, which is physically and wirelessly connected to a Time Capsule via Ethernet and Wifi. I suspect that the iMac next door, is also connected to the VPN also, and for some reason, that duplicate in the VPN service for both computers seems to have crashed the Time Capsule, and must restart first in order to use it again. At the same time, on my MacBook Pro, the VPN is still displayed as connected as the timing device in the Menubar continues timing the connection. However when I tried to manually disconnects the VPN, it changes to displaying "disconnecting" and continue to do so indefinitely (meanwhile I won't be able to connect to the Internet even though I'm connected to the Time Capsule, howecer all my other devices can access the Internet just fine), until I go into System Preferences to delete the VPN inteface, but soemtimes even that doens't work and I have to restart my computer to set everything straight.
A side note this problem is not only exclusive to my MacBook Pro, it's also apparent on my iMac.
Has anyone came across a problem like this? If so are there any solutions out there available?

I'm having the same issue. I've used my VPN on my devices for the past year and a half and it's only recently that my Time Capsule is crashed by it. I'm wondering if a recent update to the firmware has created the issue. It also happens the same way with my iPad.

  • MacOS X: Cisco Any Connect 3.x client crashes with certain user

    Hello,
I'm using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 3.1.03103. The OS I'm running is Mac OS X 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro.
During connection (about 5 seconds after pressing the connect button) the VPN clients crashes.

This only happens with one user. With two other users on that same system the issue does not happen. It started after I added Admin rights to that user. I also removed the Admin rights but the error still happens.
I uninstalled the client, deleted /op/cisco directoy and the .anyconnect file in the home directory. I rebooted the MacBook and installed it again. But no change, the error still happens.
Is there any other fix besides deleting and re-creating the user? There must be some configuration file (besides /opt/cisco/anyconnect/profile or the .anyconnect file in the user home ) in the home directory but I haven't found anything.
    Help greatly appreciated :-)
    Cheers
    Niels

We've recently run into an issue related to this. We found that it was related somehow to Firefox. If one looks inside of
/Applications/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.app/Contents/MacOS/ there are symlinks to Firefox libraries:
    $ ls -lntotal 1800-rwxrwxr-x  1 0     80  891232 Aug  3  2012 Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Clientlrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      60 Jun 13 15:57 libmozsqlite3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libmozsqlite3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libnspr4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnspr4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libnss3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnss3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libnssutil3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnssutil3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libplc4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplc4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libplds4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplds4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libsoftokn3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libsoftokn3.dylib
So as a simple confirmation we were able to remove Firefox and have AnyConnect connect fine. As a more permanent workaround we replaced the above symlinks with 0 byte files and we were able to have our cake (AnyConnect connecting) and eat it too (Firefox installed as well).

  • PPTP Problems with RV320

I just bought a new RV320 to replace my older RV082 in my local office network. I was able to get the RV320 set up and running, but had a problem with the PPTP settings. On the RV082 I have three gateway-to-gateway VPNs set up and when a user logs in using a PPTP VPN they are able to access resources on any of the gateway-togateway VPNs. I set up the RV320 the same way and had all of the gateway-to-gateway tunnels up and running and verified from my internal network that I can reach the servers on each tunnel. I set up a PPTP user and verified that I can reach the network from a remote computer, but when I try to reach a resource on one of the gateway-to-gateway tunnels it crashes the RV320 and I have to reconnect all of my gateway-to-gateway VPNs. I ensured that all of the pass throughs are enabled and haven't found any other settings that seem out of place. Can anyone think of anything else that I may need to set up to get this to work?
I know a lot of people wouldn't use the PPTP with the other options available, but this is the best option to connect my Surface RT tablet to the network while I'm on the road since a client isn't availble for it.
    Thanks,
    Clinton

    Clinton,
just found your post and it sounds similar to an issue I am experiencing with a client.
Two sites, RV320 with latest firmware in the main office and a satellite office with a Netgear unit.  Both connected via a gateway to gateway IPSec vpn.   The link is very stable.  The satellite office initiates the connection.  The main office RV320 also has a number of users setup for PPTP remote access to company resources such as rdp/rdc.
Our issue is when I vpn in with pptp to the main office, the RV320, the moment I try to access the satellite office subnet it triggers the IPSec gateway to gateway vpn to crash.  I then have to remote into the satellite office and manual restart the link.... then all is fine again.  Now, if I am physically at the main office, and ping or access the satellite office subnet, all is fine.
My thought has been that either I do not have the gateway to gateway vpn setup properly or there is some access rule I am missing.  I need to do some more research and experiment with the connection.  It very well could be my setup as this was the first time I have setup IPSec...  Just as a note, the RV320 itself never crashes ... it just shows the IPSec vpn is down ... I need to isolate the issue to either the Netgear or Cisco side...
I will follow this thread and see if you find out anything.
    cheers

  • Cisco VPN Client causes blue screen crash on WindowsXP Pro (Satellite M30)

    Hi there,
I've got a Satellite Pro M30 running Windows XP Professional.
After starting a vpn Tunnel via a Cisco VPN Client (Version 4.6 and 4.7) the system crashes with a blue screen.
I can see that the key exchange is successful, but immediatly after the vpn connection gets established Windows XP crashes with a blue screen.
Has anyone an idea, how to solve this problem?
Maybe by device driver update? And if so, which driver should be updated?
    Kind regards,
    Thorsten

    Hi R2D2 (and anyone else)!
1st of all (concerning your link) - I'm not using the wireless adapter.
I am connectet via 100Mbit via network-cable to my hub (all RJ45 TP Cat.5)
I found several other Notebook users by google'ing who have the same problem different vpn-clients but most of them with a centrino processor inside the notebook.
Almost all of them solved the problem by installing new drivers. But I can't use driver-patches from other Notebook to fix my Toshiba Drivers.
What could help is information about which driver is responsible for the crash by vpn clients on centrino notebooks. Maybe there is an Intel driver for it, but when I do not know which one causes the problem it's like seeking a needle in a haystack... :(
Disabling ALL other network devices (wireless, 1394-network adapter, modem, etc.) did not solve the problem.
I used the Cisco VPN clients several times on my old Compaq Notebook without any problems, but here it just doesn't work.
An idea which driver should be updated is kindly welcome!
    Thank you, Thorsten

Any ideas what could be the problem and how to resolve this?

Further proof it's something with credentials/authentication. I found a valid workaround, but I think this one's on Microsoft to actually fix.
I opened up Remote Desktop Connection, put in my username and clicked the Save Credentials box. Then I edited all the other settings. Saved the RDP connection to my desktop. Then I edited it with notepad, and added the password value. I found a blog that
provides a program that'll hash the password for you. I used it so I can say its safe:
    http://www.remkoweijnen.nl/blog/2007/10/18/how-rdp-passwords-are-encrypted/
I put the hashed password in, saved the file. Then used it to connect and it worked. So by bypassing RDP having to ask for credentials, it didn't crash since it doesn't ask. Kind of inconvenient if you have many computers you have to connect in to. But for
those in a bind this will work for you.
This one worked for me, no update or installation of software before it broke, but had a "wife-poweroutage" (cable taken out) I'm just not in the mood to reinstall for this. But the above fixed it for me. Thank you!

  • Mac OS 10.5 - Cisco VPN - Screensaver Security Password Crash

    Hi
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.5.6 and uses the Cisco VPN client version 4.9.01 (0100) so that he can work remotely from home. The problem he is experiencing is when he VPN'd into his office network and leaves his computer unattended for enough time for his screen saver to cut and then returns to the computer and it prompts him for his account password to exit the screen saver it crashes. This is not the case if he does not have VPN connection.
I have checked with him which screen saver as some, like the Apple RSS Visualizer, require a valid internet connection to download RSS feeds and I know that the Cisco VPN Client when actively connected to a Cisco router can cannibalise ones network connection thus not allowing the download of RSS feed. Anyway this is not the case as he uses Apple Flurry screensaver.
Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    Anton

The problem with that is that my client does Cinema 4D work and leaves his system unattended when his drawing are rendering and has password to stop his pesky children causing problems. Sleep would cause the system to hibernate and spin the hard disk down which would pause any rendering from processing in the background.

  • I just upgraded my iPad to iOS8.  I use VPN for work, when I start Safari up with the VPN on, Safari crashes the VPN.  VPN stays up when I use Chrome or Opera, but not Safari.  I had no problem with iOS7.

I use my iPad for work when I'm out of the office.  I have to use VPN to access my company's applications and servers.  I just upgraded my iPad (an iPad Air) to iOS8 from iOS7.  Now, every time I start Safari up, it crashes VPN.  If I use either Chrome or Opera, the VPN stays up.  It also works fine with Mail, etc.  Only Safari crashes the VPN.  Anyone else experiencing this?  It always worked fine with iOS7.

More info, it's not simply when I start up Safari, it's when I open multiple tabs and go from one tab to the next in Safari.  Doing this sporadically caused the VPN to turn off.   It happens whether I'm on a work web page, or I simply open up several public sites like CNN, MSN, etc.  I've had to go to using Chrome all the time when using the VPN so that the VPN will stay up (it stayed up all day yesterday while I was on Chrome, while using work web sites, and public web sites).  I tried getting back into Safari at the end of the day, opened a couple of tabs, went back and forth to the opened tabs and VPN immediately shut off.

  • AirPort Extreme Crash during PPTP connect using VPN on demand

I can reproduce this crash consistently every time.
My AEBSn is running 7.4.2. My MBP is running 10.6.2.
I set up a PPTP connection, tick "send all traffic over VPN connection" in the advanced options.
I add a domain to the "VPN on Demand" list and apply changes.
I click connect, and the AEBS light immediately goes amber. A few seconds later, it's back to green and everything is groovy...unless I try to connect again.
The problem is solved by simply removing the domain from "VPN on Demand."

    Funny, huh?

    Hi
I have had this problem with my Airport Extreme since day 1 and it is extremely irritating. Using Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2003 I can crash the router any time I like (or more to the point, really really dislike) by simply initiating a PPTP VPN from any client (wired or wireless) behind the Airport Extreme. The device flashes orange, drops everyone's internet connection and then about a minute later, comes back up again.
Whenever I have to connect to another site using VPN, I need to use NextG internet connection instead of my home cable connection. Any help with this would be gold because other than this really annoying problem (oh and the 'must reboot everytime you make a minor modification to configuration' requirement) I find it a great rock solid wireless access point.

  • VPN and racoon in foreground

I have set up racoon to work with my VPN at work. Therefore I had to modify racoon.conf.
Everything works well, as long as I run racoon in foreground (racoon -F). As soon as racoon is run background connections cannot be established using the Mac OS X VPN Gui.
Has any of you encountered this problem? Are there solutions to circumvent this behaviour?
    Thank you very much,
    Stephan
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The second one seems an interesting solution. The only thing is that I was planning to connect the clients to a switch and this s
witch to the core router. And then use vlans and subinterfaces to connect all the clients to 1 physical interface in th
e core router. But I think your solution might work. Im going to think about it.
Thanks a lot for your help.
    Regards,
    Daniel
I've already tried your idea. Works really well. Thanks a lot.

So there is another thread that didn't specify a fix and I'm hoping we can get this thing resolved.
OS X 10.5.8 Server with ports forwarded through firewall and landing on this box was working perfectly. It randomly has stopped and the vpnd.log is reporting...
Unable to connect racoon control socket (errno = 61)
This error happens about every second or so if VPN is enabled.
I have tried changing the subnet, disabling and re-enabling of L2TP, but nothing it working. I believe there is a stuck process that cannot die.
I'm assuming a reboot would resolve this, but this is a product system hosting other critical services and rebooting is not an easy process.
    Thoughts?

This is also happening to me, but on 10.6.2. I have restarted, changed subnet range, changed the shared secret, but I continue to get the EDT Unable to connect racoon control socket (errno = 61). I have had the same experience as Grant, but everything I try does not work. Has anyone resolve their issues with this error?

  • App Store crash with Cisco VPN Client

I have no problems at all with the App Store, except when I'm connected to a VPN using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client application. Then the App Store crashes 100% of the time on launch.
I included this in the crash report, but asI don't have any other VPN setups to test against, I'm curious if anyone else is running into similar problems.

    Definitely not alone
I just posted bug as well.  Easy to replicate.

  • Why cant i change my roteting system? This iso5.1 got alot problem and my safari crash alot...do someting!!

Theres a problem on rotateing system. And safari and apps..this new iso5 need to bee fixed alot and i see many people complaing massiv aboutit.do someting befro i loss intrest to apple system

These are user-to-user forums and they are not monitored by Apple, so I'm not sure who you are expecting to 'do someting'.
For rotation, is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator ? If so, then depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (rotation lock or mute notifications), then you can lock/unlock the rotation by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
If there isn't a lock symbol then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
In terms of apps crashing, try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then again a reset might help.
Some people have also suggested turning off the cloud.
