VRF Issue on a 6500

I have a 6500 with one VRF. I want traffic to pass from the VRF to the global switch through an IPS so I set up a point to point link through the IPS using two GBIC ports each assigned with an IP out of the same /30. One port is in the VRF and the other is not.
While the VRF and global routing table both show the subnet directly connected, I cannot ping from one side to the other. I replaced the IPS with a cross over cable to rule out the IPS without any change.
Is this traffic trying to pass over the bus?

these r the 3 tables which r connected to ur view - T882,T001,T001Z
if u want data based on some join on these 3 tables then put a join in ur code on these 3 tables and then fetch ur record..if u want datra specific to one table only then u can directly select tht frm a single table..

It seems no matter how many times i set a ringtone and screen saver, the phone reverts back to the standard nokia ringtone and a blank screensaver???
I have phoned my network provider who dont seem to be of any help at all and just keep advising me that i should try upgrading the software via the pc suite which ive done several times with no fix!
Im thinking this must be a fault with this handsets/ software as both my phones are doin it and also 3 of my friends phones also are doin the same thing!
Does anyone know why this keeps happening as im really getting fedup with having to reset my ringtone/ screen saver all the time..
    Thanxs rich

I purchaced a nokia 6500 slide around christmas 08 and by janurary it was away getting fixed because of the phone whiting out resetting scrambling my contacts wouldnt take pictures wouldnt read my memory card because of the stupid clip on the back which you need so it will read it is now august 09 it has been away for repairs 3 times in total it has spent about 3 months away being repaired so i do not reccomend buying one waste of money and time thanks nokia job well done.

  • VRF issue with Firewall in transparent Mode.

    Hi Guys,
    I have 7609 Router and 6513 L3 Switch connected Through ASA 5545.
I am running Multiple VRF between router and Switch and BGP routing Protocol. When they are connected directly to each other everything is normal, however, when I have connected them via ASA 5545 then everything fails. I am using ASA in transparent Mode.
My question is: Do ASA require different setting in case of VRF? If yes, then please give me sample config.

I have taken following output from Firewall will this be any help?

  • Extending VRF-lite to 6500??

    Hello,
I have a simple scenario, where there is a 6500 connected to a router (ISP end), which we have planned to implement vrf-lite on.... there are basically 2 VLANs on the LAN, one production and one guest... we need to isolate the routing table instances between the production and guest.. we have planned to configure trunk between the 6500 and PE router at the ISP end. 6500 acts as a CE here.
Now, I want to extend the VRF information from the PE to the 6500 CE, since the layer 3 VLANs terminate on the 6500. i will define the same VRF information on the 6500 and isolate VRF routing tables for the guest/production vlan on the LAN also.. I know we will require to configure VRF, RD, BGP etc on the PE router and do a "ip vrf forwarding" on the subinterface of the router. What is the configuration required on the 6500 to extend the VRF-lite information to the end vlans ????? does anyone have any sample configs or links to which i can refer ?
    Raj

    Well,
first a sample config (not from a 6500, but you should be able to get the idea):
    ip vrf Cust1
    rd 65000:1
    ip vrf Cust2
    rd 65000:2
    interface FastEthernet0/0.100
    encapsulation dot1Q 100
    ip vrf forwarding Cust1
    ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
    interface FastEthernet0/0.200
    encapsulation dot1Q 200
    ip vrf forwarding Cust1
    ip address 10.1.2.1 255.255.255.252
    interface FastEthernet0/0.300
    encapsulation dot1Q 300
    ip vrf forwarding Cust2
    ip address 10.20.1.1 255.255.255.252
    interface FastEthernet0/0.333
    encapsulation dot1Q 333
    ip vrf forwarding Cust2
    ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.252
!On a 6500 you could also have:
    interface vlan 400
    ip vrf forwarding Cust2
    ip address 10.1.123.1 255.255.255.252
    router rip
    address-family ipv4 vrf Cust1
    version 2
    network 10.0.0.0
    no auto-summary
    exit-address-family
    address-family ipv4 vrf Cust2
    version 2
    network 10.0.0.0
    no auto-summary
    exit-address-family
The separation in the control plane (routing etc.) is achieved through the normal VRF configuration. Overlapping IPs and such are supported by having separate IP routing tables per VRF and VRF aware routing protocols like RIP, OSPF, etc.
In the data plane traffic is sorted by layer2 encapsulation. In the example above, the dot1Q VLAN tag will deliver the same functionality as the MPLS VPN labels. If f.e. an IP packet with destination 10.1.1.1 arrives, the VLAN tag 100 or 333 will allow the VRF-lite CE to determine, whether it belongs to Cust1 or Cust2. The same differentation will take place for traffic from the CE to the PE. So the PE config is practically the same, BUT in addition MP-BGP and route-targets and MPLS towards the core is used.
So no MPLS is needed on the VRF-lite CE router, no labels will be used, hence VRF-lite.
The PE will not be the PHP LSR in the MPLS sense, because it is the LAST router in the MPLS network.
Instead of the FastEthernet also VLAN interfaces can be used. The number of interfaces per VRF or the number of VRFs are limited by memory.
Hope this helps! Please use the rating system.

  • MPLS / vrf-lite

    Hi
We currently use a BT MPLS network and use BGP on our CE router to peer with the providers PE routers. Currently we only use one VPN for production across the MPLS network.
We are now looking to give access from some of our MPLS sites to a test environment housed in our data centre. We need to do this on a pc by pc basis.
At the moment the plan is to add a Test VPN within the MPLS network. All sites will be a member of the production VPN and those sites that also need access to test environment will be a member of the Test vpn.
This will segregate the traffic over the WAN but the issue i now have is how to segregate the traffic once it leaves the PE router. The link between the CE and PE router is just a layer 3 link so the VPN separation
has disappeared by now. I don't mind the traffic not being separated in terms of VPN's on the CE to PE link but i need to segregate the traffic once it leaves the CE router and enters our LAN.
    So finally the questions
    1) Is there a way to keep the separation at a VPN level on the CE -> PE link. As i say i don't mind not having it but if there is a way i would be interested.
    2) More importantly i have done some limited reading on VRF-lite and was wondering before i go further if that would allow me to segregate the traffic internally within the LAN. Our Lan's in major buildings usually consist
of 4500 at the access-layer and 6500 as distribtion/core. What i would ideally like to do is ensure that only users within the site who need to access the test environment can ie. by adding a site to the TEST vpn this does
not mean that all users within the site should be able to get to it.
    I could
    i) Use PBR together with access-list and potentially firewalls
ii) use vrf-lite to segregate the traffic.
So is this a good application for vrf-lite or have i missed the point of it ?. if not can anyone suggest a better way ?
    Many thanks
    Jon

    Joseph/Anantha
Thanks to both of you for your replies. If i could just query your expertise a little more.
Attached is a visio of a site that i would like to be able to access both the Test and Production VPN's. The key thing to note is that we are routing from the access-layer down to the distribution 6500 switches.
Now on the 4500 i can have 2 separate VRF's, one for the Prod VPN and one for the Test VPN. I can then assign different vlan interfaces into the relevant vrf.
Am i right in my assumptions so far ?
The problem i am having in taking this further is that a L3 interface can only be in one VRF and as the connections from the 4500 to the 6500 are L3 uplinks i can't allocate the L3 link into 2 separate vrf's (nor would it make sense to do so).
I am not in a position to change the L3 links to L2 links which would solve part of the problem as the vlan interfaces would then be on the 6500 and i could allocate these interfaces into separate VRF's.
So is there any way, bearing in mind that i need to keep L3 links from the access-layer, that i can segregate the routing tables on the 6500 and 7200 router.
If i can't do this then i don't see the advantage of trying to use VRF-lite because the 6500/7200 and 3800 will all have one routing table with both Test and Prod routes in in it and this means without route filtering these routes will get propogated by the 3800 to our remote sites.
If i have to revert to route-filtering i may as well not bother with vrf-lite ?

  • 6500 VSS Chassis in unknown state

    Hi,
we have 6500 chassises in our set up. But using CWLMS 4.0 , we are unable to manage VSS feature of 6500.Also
User tracking for Nexus 7K Switches subnets are not working.
    Please guide.
    Rgrds,
    Soumik.

    Hi,
Would you mind posting some more information about the VSS problem. (Exact steps or maybe a screenshot of what you are doing). I didn't have any major issues configuring Cisco 6500 VSS in LMS or NCS. Minor ones were some SNMP MIBs which you can simply ignore.

  • Nokia 6500c Firmware Issue

Just flashed to latest firmware and what a shock ive got a problem here is what happend - its a new phone all working ok with all default codes i upgraded and now in the call duration to reset the timers will not accept the default code as it did before all other security codes are off at the moment but i would like to use them but if changing the codes requires me to input the default one then im reluctent its going to work and lock me out altogether all i can say is what a pile of po? this firmware must be the only saving grace is my contacts are still intact anybody know what to do except take it to a center which is a joke cos on this site mine is the o2 shop and they have said they cant fix it im going round in circles please help?

I have been on the phone to nokia today and told them my problem as above on my 6500c and slide guess what the first thing he said was YES there is a problem with the firmware on this model of phone ie DO NOT flash it if its new and working ok leave it well alone.
The out come is this for me the phones are only 3 months old and are covered by the warenty so he told me i will have to take it to one of there repair centers and have the phone flashed with software that the general public have not got access too and this will be done free of chage and will take a couple of hours to do depending on how busy the center is.
Ok so far so this is what ill do so i got the details eventually after finding out they had moved the center to another town and rang them no problem he said just drop by anytime and we will fix it?
hmm this sounds to easy so i will update you all later this week when ive been to the shop??
If you live in the s midlands/ n worcestershire area then here is the details of where to get your 6500 re-flased -
Please note i have flashed my phone twice to the latest version which is V4.84 and from v4.80 and when i had the phone new it was 3.6 so the latest 6500 version is v4.84 but it has bugs in it so DO NOT USE THIS UPGRADE it causes more problems then it fixs you have been warned.
I think when my contract is up i am going to change to something better hi hi.
I hope this will help some of you who are having issues with the 6500 and the phon DOES have default passwords to reset the counters its 12345 its in the **bleep** manual and confirmed from nokia so not sure where this idea that this phone does not have passwords on it - IT DOES thats why its broke?
Have fun dont get too wet and watch this space?

  • Print quality of an officejet 6500 wireless all-in-one E709n

I purchased this printer as part of an Apple promotion with a MacBookPro.  The color is extremely poor.  Was told by an HP tech. that they were host cartridges only to be used for setting up the printer.    Anyone else experience this?  Also, when I print out an email, the top part of the message is cut off.  How do I fix that?  Apple won't exchange for another as I already recycled the box.  Do I just have a bum printer?  It does respond to print commands and I have it hooked to a desktop iMac via USB and to my laptop via wireless.  That works...unfortunately, the quality is horrible.

I think our HP tech support agent gave you incorrect advice.  Out of the box, the color quality should be spot on.
When you say the color is extremely poor, do you see this with photo printing or general purpose color documents?
Also, have you tried performing a print head cleaning and an alignment?  The alignment should have been done automatically when you first setup the printer but it doesn't hurt to do it again.
Finally, give HP tech support a call again and politely press your case.  Don't let them tell you it's a host supply issue since the 6500 doesn't use this type of starter ink.  If you are unhappy with the printer's print quality, insist on a replacement.
    BTW -- I have a prototype Officejet 6500 and I think it's a good office printer.

  • 6500 TCAM usage for MPLS

    Hello!
I'm using cat6500 WS-SUP720-3BXL as BGP router for 3 full view upstream an several clients. Different clients want to use different upstream for output traffic, but output should be redundant . So I should implement VRF + BGP.
I have done the following config:

Question: is can I some how use VRF+BGP but disable TCAM MPLS table usage, and label generation  for my platform?
    Cisco say
    Ipv4 routes ---1 TCAM entry
    ipv4 routes(vpn/vrf) -- 1 TCAM entry
    ipv4 multicast -- 2 TCAM entry
    ipv6 (anycast/unicast) -- 2 TCAM entry
MPLS labels --  1 TCAM entry
But look like BGP+VRF =2 TCAM entry.
Is there any workaround to use 1 TCAM entry for one route in VRF from BGP for 6500?
    Thank you for answer!

Hello! thanks for the tips. I found on the same forum an interesting solution of the problem.

  • 6500 slide - how to have the message tone silent b...

    So frustrating.
I've tried all teh profiles and carefully made sure that the message tone is off, and then what do you know - beep beep !
I work in an open plan office and this is not a good thing to have happen.
Never had this problem with any phone before.
Reading on here - I think it may be a software problem and I just need to connect and update it ?
Can anyone confirm that they have had the same problem and it was fixed like this ?
    Thanks !

further to my earlier posts I have now been advised by my providers technical department (and I must say very pleased that someone actually spoke sense to me and was very helpful, thanks "3" Repairs) that the problem is a "known issue" with the 6500 slide. Apparently some pin on the back is meant to touch something on the phone memory like a reset button, but often it does not, so any profile changes you make are forgotten and it resets to default. So why have Nokia not resolved this?? All very annoying when your siting in a meeting thinking phone on silent, then suddenly, all singing and dancing!!!!!!

  • HP Officejet 6500A Plus will not maintain wireless connection reliably

For the HP EXPERTS on Expert Day, April 18, 2012:
B.L.A.T. (Bottom Line At Top):  We have an HP Officejet 6500A Plus purchased about 5 months ago.  We wanted to use it as a wireless-connected printer in another room besides our home office.  It is useless to us because it will not maintain its wireless connection, even sitting just a few feet from the router in the same room.  Except for numerous hours of troubleshooting, we have left it sitting powered up, but unused and idle, for almost the entire 5 months in our home office.  DURING ALL THAT IDLE TIME, IT HAS LOGGED OVER 3,200 DISCONNECTS, at a consistent rate of 24 disconnects every 24 hours, even though it ALWAYS reports that the wireless signal quality is “EXCELLENT” (all this is according to the Wireless Network Test Reports we’ve printed throughout the last 5 months).  So our question is, what is it that this printer is trying to do once an hour over a wireless connection that is causing these thousands of disconnects?  And how can we stop it?
NOTE!  Before you round up the usual suspects (namely our router and our PC firewalls) please note that we also bought an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus ON THE SAME DAY as the Officejet 6500A Plus.  The 8600 was also installed with a wireless connection, and has worked without a single network issue for the entire 5 months.
NOW, FOR THE REST OF THE STORY…
WHO WE ARE:  My wife and I have worked on HP equipment for 33 years, starting in 1979 as corporate customers of HP when we worked for Exxon; then we both worked for HP directly for 17 years; and we’ve now used dozens of pieces of HP equipment in our home during the last 12 years in retirement.  We’re primarily software folks, so we’re not exactly experts in hardware and networking, but on the other hand, this ain’t our first rodeo either.
    OUR CONFIGURATION:
PC’s – All running Windows 7 x64 with all important patches applied and Norton Internet Security 2012:  HPE-270f and HP AIO 200-Quad, each with full 6500A and 8600A drivers installed on wireless connection.  These 2 PC’s themselves can connect either wirelessly or via Ethernet to our home network.  The 270f has a dual-band wireless board.  Both bands work.  We also have a new dv7t laptop with only the full 6500A driver installed via wireless connection.  The laptop is now upstairs and it’s connected to our home network wirelessly without any issues.  (This is where we had hoped to also put the 6500A, but it needs to work reliably via wireless connection.)
ROUTER:  Netgear N600 WNDR3700 providing Ethernet and wireless networking.  Router provides a very strong wireless signal throughout the house.  No wireless problems with any other equipment including an iPod, two Kindle Fires besides all the HP equipment.
PRINTERS:  Besides the two HP printers, the HPE-270f PC has a Canon MP960 installed on it.  And if we can’t get the 6500A working right or replaced with something that does work right, we may be buying our second Canon printer.  By the way, on the 6500A, ePrint and App’s are set to ON, but of course they’re not being used, just like everything else on this AIO.
OTHER:  We also have a Sonos music system that connects to our network via Ethernet and has its own proprietary mesh network (on another frequency) for transmitting ripped music wirelessly to speaker units throughout our house.  (If you aren’t familiar with this totally cool system, check out sonos.com).  We’ve never seen any evidence of interference between these two wireless networks, or our wireless phone sets either.

SYMPTOMS:  The 6500A Plus installs quickly and easliy, and connects wirelessly just fine during installation.  But sometime over the next hour (usually less), it disconnects and won’t print from PC applications.  Sometimes the application puts up an “Unable to communicate with printer” screen, even though the PC usually thinks the printer is “ready”.  Other times, the PC thinks the printer is offline (but printers don’t have “offline” buttons anymore!).  Often, if you just leave everything alone, the 6500A will somehow reconnect and print out the spooled file 5-30 MINUTES later.  So it does usually seem to be able to recover given some time, but that doesn’t always fit our schedule!   Occasionally, turning the wireless radio on the printer off and back on will fix it right away.  But usually, you have to power the printer completely off, and then back on.  As far as we know, that always fixes it…..until the next disconnect a few minutes later!
PREVIOUSLY TRIED:  After reading some of HP’s wireless network support websites, I manually assigned a fixed IP address to this printer.  It didn’t seem to matter; according to the wireless network test report, it still logs disconnects at the rate of one per hour, and all the failure symptoms were the same.
We also dabbled a bit with setting this printer as “trusted” to the Firewall, but that didn’t seem to matter either.
Next, we connected the printer via Ethernet.  The printer immediately started to work, even though it had just been in its “failed” state over the wireless connection.  As far as we know, it never failed while connected via Ethernet.  This seems to point to a purely wireless hardware/firmware problem on the printer itself.
Late last year, I tried two different chat sessions about this with the inter-continental AIO support teams, each one lasting several hours.  Unfortunately, none of their optimistic solution scripts seemed to fit our problem.  They both seemed determined to reconfigure the 6500A as a TCP/IP printer, which of course worked fine initially, just like everything else.  At this point, they would understandably want to close the chat.  But 20-30 minutes later, we could no longer print to it.  During the second chat, they got into one of our PC’s remotely and effectively turned off the spooler (by selecting “Print Directly” or something like that).  After that, all was well again (as usual) UNTIL the printer disconnected, at which time attempting to print from that PC would HANG the application (since the spooler was no longer buffering) and eventually hang the whole PC.  One giant leap backwards.  That’s when I gave up on the multi-hour chat sessions.
The three diagnostic utilities (HDU, PDU, NDU) have been tried over and over.  When the printer is in its disconnected state, the DU’s usually don’t detect the 6500A at all, or if they do detect it, they are unable to fix anything.  Frankly, it’s easier to just power the printer off (which takes about a minute) and power the printer back on (which takes more than a minute) and then wait for the spooler to kick in (usually about 30 seconds).  BUT WE DON’T CONSIDER THAT A SOLUTION!!
B.L.A.B.  (Bottom Line At Bottom):  We have used up nearly the entire black ink cartridge and at least a ream of paper troubleshooting this brand new printer, to no avail.  This printer is useless to us unless it can maintain a wireless connection reliably.  Please help!

I bought the Officejet 6500A Plus about one month and have experienced the very same problem. I tried to remedy this problem following suggestions in a number of different posts (static IP, router, firewalls etc), all to no avail. Last week I called support. The support I received by the tech over several hours and different days for a week was very good. However none of his suggestions corrected the connection issue. After today's recommended fix failed, he advised HP is aware of this issue with the 6500 and other affected printers. He claimed HP was working on a firmware upgrade. He did not know when the update would be provided. The tech also claimed HP acknowledged this problem in a written announcement. He agreed to email the announcement to me. I haven't received it. This has been the only problem I've had with the 6500

  • Icmp redirects best practice

Is there a best practice for enabling or disabling icmp redirects?  Looks like I have redirects enabled and that caused a problem for a host server the other night.  A line went down, the 6500 sent a redirect that was not really a valid route and when the line came up, the host still cached the redirected route, causing a problem.  Are there any pro's and con's, although I'm leaning towards disabling redirects?
as always, thanks for your ideas.

Redirects are about efficiency; avoiding the need to transit an extra device.  If that's not a concern, turn if off.
(Of course there's the issue why the 6500 sent an invalid route redirect.)

  • High cpu when change "mls cef maximum-route ip" to more than 512K

    Dear All
From cisco document 6500-sup720 and 7600-rsp720 are support IPv4 unicast and MPLS—512,000 routes by default. On my network we have route more than 400K which nearly reach to the limit then I tried to change from 512K to 1007K as below.
    Router#sh mls cef maximum-routes
    FIB TCAM maximum routes :
    =======================
    Current :-
    IPv4                - 1007k
    MPLS                - 1k
    IPv6 + IP Multicast - 8k (default)
After rebooted I got high cpu issue on both 6500-sup720 and 7600-rsp720 then I tried to tuning to other value such as 600K , 700K and so on but doesn't help.
    Summary
       - I have no cpu issue with default value for mls cef maximum-route
       - I have cpu issue when tuning to other value such as 600K , 700K
    Please advise.
