VRO files

I have, on a DVD-r, the files from a Hitachi camcorder(not my camera)DVDRam. I have Ilife 06. The problem is with the VRO files. Imovie will not import them. Quicktime will not play them on my Mac but yet on my PC I can play the file(not the best quality) in windows media player.
I was hoping I could easily import into my Imovie, add some features and voilla.. but no luck.I have searched on the net and I have not received a definitive answer. I think I may need to buy Quicktime Pro and the MPEG-2 playback but before I go and spend another $70 bucks(cdn), is there something I am not doing right.
does this DVD need to be finalized and if so can it now be done??The files were copied off a DVDRam onto a DVD-r disk. My Emac will only show the DVD/Cd icon on desk top
Help..

so has anyone tried out this software? does it really handles .vro file?
i'd like to find a free software that allows me to copy/edit .vro clips capture from my DVD handycam. Is this the software i should be looking for?

  • QuickTime Pro and .VRO files?

So here's my situation. I recently transferred several VHS movies to DVD on a Samsung DVD/VHS recorder. I was able to play the movies back on that machine and also a Panasonic Blu-Ray player without any problems. When I attempted to try them on my mac and PC, they wouldn't work. I downloaded Nero on PC which played them back perfectly. However, in order to have the option to recode them (into MPEG-4 or whatever), I have to purchase an upgrade to Nero, which is twice what QT Pro costs. What I would like to know is if QT Pro first of all can play these discs and if so, can it convert .VRO files into something more generic? Anyone have any experience with this stuff? Thanks in advance!!!

What I would like to know is if QT Pro first of all can play these discs
If the free QuickTime Player can't play it, QuickTime Pro can't play it. What you need is the MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is completely separate from QuickTime Pro, plus the free MPEG Streamclip for the conversion.

  • Help with a .vro file please

Hi, I have a DVD-R disk that I recorded from TV in Japan. The main file is a .vro file, but I can't play this on my iMac. I am running Lion, and apparently that means it should run in Quicktime, but it doesn't recognise it.
According to my research, if I copy the .vro file to my computer and simply change the extension to .mpg it should play, but again no joy.
I have had a look for a converter, but nothing seems to recognise the file.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help

There is no need to convert the file... There are several programs avaliable for the Mac that can play back those type of files...

  • Importing VRO files into iMovie

Hi - a newbie here. I have a load of home movies recorded on a Canon DC210 camcorder in VRO format. I want to import them to iMovie with minimum loss of resolution. Following advice on various forums I have downloaded MPEG Streamclip and the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback upgrade. So far I have opened the VRO file in MPEG Streamclip (selecting the Fix Timecode Breaks option), but I'm not sure then the best settings to use to export the files. The forums I read had conflicting advice about which codec and quality level to use. Also what about the many other export options: frame size, sound settings, field dominance and frame rate? Using the Apple Intermediate Codec with 75% quality and Deinterlace Video option checked worked okay. I could import the resulting MOV file to iMovie and it looked fine to my eye but I'm concerned about loss of quality which I might regret in later years. Thanks for any advice!

srendell have you tried performing a simple Camera Import using iMovie '09.

  • Converting Canon VRO files to Mpeg

A few years ago I purchased a Canon DC20 dvd camera and haven't used it much.  Today, however, I managed to convert one of the mini dvd discs from the VRO format to mpeg.   I'd now like to go one stage further and start to learn to use iMovies.  But first, can anyone please point me in the right direction by suggesting a programme that will convert my several dvd discs into mpg (if that's the right way forward).  Much obliged.

Maybe I didn't make myself entirely clear.  When I download the files I've taken with the canon dvd camera they came of the mini dvd disc as VR_MANGR.IFO and VR_MOVIE.VRO
I found a programme called vavtube HD whiich I downloaded to see if it worked and, if I liked it, the cost would be about 45$ .   Obviously to play on iMovie I would need them as readable Mac files which I successfuly converted and ran them with the .mp4 extension.  It was very good, but as I know nothing of iMovie and movies generally, I want to be sure that I'm using the right programme now rather that go down a route then have to use something else at a later stage.  I hope someone can advise that's a bit more savvy than I am on movies.
    Thanks

  • .IFO & .VRO files

How do I import .IFO or .VRO movie files? I have my canon camcorder connected via USB and have tried copying the files from the external drive onto my desktop and directly into iMovie. I get an error saying that "Quicktime couldn't parse it"
    Any suggestions?
I specifically bought this camera as it was on the list of models tested by Mac. All I want is to import my footage.
    Thanks in advance!

Are you using iMovieHD 6? Since that's the forum you're in I'll assume yes. iMovie HD 6 doesn't work with camcorders unless they connect via Firewire (i.e. miniDV and Digital 8 camcorders).
It sounds like your camcorder uses an HDD or flash memory (or DVD?). If so you can't easily import the footage into iMovie HD 6. You should look into upgrading to iMovie 08 which is compatible with many of these types of camcorders.

  • .VRO Video files

We have a Panasonic DVD (Model VDR M70) video camera. It uses mini dvd discs. The video files that are produced end with .VRO as the file ext. What can I use to read these types of files?
    Thank You

Run for cover, there's yet another video container ...
Some video-editing programs can read VRO files if the file extension is changed to .MPG or .VOB however this does not alter the file format. If the file does not open after changing the extension, you should change it back to .VRO
VRO files can be converted by AVS video converter and some other tools.
You could also try using MPEG Streamclip.
Roxio Toast can also be used to open/convert .VRO's.
One other possibility, I have heard (but not verified) that QT Pro with the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component can read .VRO files. Once opened in QT Pro you should be able to export a .MOV file (use an appropriate codec) as a self-contained movie; and then import the resulting file into FCE or iMovie.

  • Convert VRO video files to Quicktime?

I want to edit and convert files I recorded on my panasonic dvd recorder on my iMac. I have quicktime 7Pro, Quicktime 10 Player, Toast 10 Titanium, Handbrake, and Streamclip. I cannot seem to get the correct combination of steps to convert files to Quicktime without having to purchase another app or the Quicktime Plug-in for MP play/convert. Does anyone know how to do this?

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
There are numerous converters online to convert the .VRO files into .VOB or MP4 or other which should be supported by Premiere Elements.

  • Converting VRO movie files

OK. Should start by stating that I'm a long time Mac user (since 1989), first time caller…
And I live in the digital SLR photography world.
Question: Need to be able to use iMovie to edit video recorded as .VRO format.
Can Quick Time Pro convert the files? Or should some other software be used? "MPEG2 Works 4" maybe?
I have recorded these movies using a Hitachi DZBX35A DVD Camcorder. Of course, this particular model does not allow USB plug into computer and uses VRO format for the files finalized onto Mini DVD.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have found a work around if anyone is interested…
    1 Finalize MiniDVD in camera.
2 use tray style DVD drive to run MiniDVD on my MacPro.
3 Copy .VRO file to desktop.
4 Run Roxio Toast 8. Choose Video options and DVD-Video
5 Place .VRO file in DVD-Video: My DVD area.
6 Select video and Export as .dv file back to desktop.
7 Now the .dv file can be opened and edited in iMovie.
8 save out to whatever desired format.
    9 Rejoice!

  • Unix Executable File?

I have my vcr connected to a samsung dv camcorder, and am recording the old vhs to dvd-rw disc. When I put it in my mac it reads as a Unix Executable .VRO file - and it is greyed out trying to import into iMovie - I'm guessing this must be a pc file which is why my mac can't read it?
    cheers

you've posted in the iMHD vers5 section of this board .. this version does NOT support the import via DVD. iM08 does...
'finalize' your disk in your Samsung device (read its manual how to accomplish this)
2nd step, you need a convert tool, usual advice is the combo of mp2-playback component from apple.com (20$), and the free Tool Mpeg Streamclip www.squared5.com ..
.. you add another loss of pic quality going the way via vhs to dvd to iMovie instead of using a converter box, which offers direct conversion from analogue to digital ...

  • Importing Movie Files From Handycam DCR-DVD108

I'm trying to import video files from the DVD of my Handycam. When I open the DVD icon on the desktop, I'm given the option to open VR_MOVIE.VRO files. But Quicktime won't play them. Does anyone know what application would open the VRO files?? Thank you!

I'm having a similar issue, though mine is a panasonic camera. VLC is able to open (and then export/transcode) the files for me. Anything that involves transcoding before importing definitely counts as a "work-around" rather than a solution in my mind though

  • Best way to convert .vro without losing quality?

Hello there fellow Apple Lovers! I have a question regarding the .vro format. So I have a youtube channel (gaming) and I want to start recording my xbox gameplay. TO do so, I use my Pioneer DVR-RT401 DVD Recorder. Now after recording, I put the dvd into my mac and use these commands to make it useable:
    mount
    sudo ls -l /Volumes/StorageLabs\ TinyUDF\ Volume/
    sudo cp -R /Volumes/StorageLabs\ TinyUDF\ Volume/ ~/Desktop
Those commands leave me with a Folder Entitled DVD-RTAV, and in that folder, two files:
         VR_MANGR.IFO
         VR_MOVIE.VRO
I can play the .vro using VLC media Player, and the quality is okay, however, If I want to import these files into iMovie(which i do), I need to convert them. FOr converting I use Visual Hub, and convert it to the iTunes format with the quality SLlider on Go Nuts!
But upon viewing the converted video, I'm left with an unprofessional effect similar to iMovie's Raster Effect. Does anyone know of a Free program that can convert .vro files better?

    Hmmm, havent tried it, but...

  • IDVD and Unix Executable files

    Hello
I have iDVD 4.0.1 and am trying to open and play a DVD movie that a friend has just sent me of a recent trip we took together. He recorded this DVD on his own Sony digital video camera, so there are obviously no copyright or other associated problems.
The one folder on the DVD is this:
    DVD_RTAV
This folder contains these three files:
    VR_MANGR.BUP
    VR-MANGR.IFO
    VR-MOVIE.VRO
The .BUP and .IFO files are tiny, only 66K each, while the .VRO file is big ie 3.69Gb. THe last one is clearly the movie itself.
Any attempt to open the .VRO file produces the message that "there is no default application specified to open document VR_MOVIE.VRO".
    iDVD will not open it.
The Get Info instruction tells me that the 3 files are all Unix Executable files.
Is this just a question of changing the suffix on each file to something else? If not, is there a way of converting these files into a format so that this DVD can be played on my (PPC) G5 iMac?
    Many thanks.

    obviously, you have it ..
.vro is mp2 encoded (to my knowledge), therefor, SC needs that plug-in..
if it works, don't fix it
