VS2012 Wont Connect to SQL 2012 Server Location

When I attempt to connect to a SQL 2012 Instance, VS2012 crashes. I can connect fine using SQL Management Studio to the SQL 2012 instance, and my VS2012 connects no problem to my SQL 2008 R2 Instances.
Any suggestions?

I have tested that the ODBC connection can connect to the database. The sql query has been dumbed down to select '1' from dual. I have not included the word "select" in the query.
Anyone seen this before? We are in the process of uninstalling the Oracle client completely and re-installing it to see if this solves the issue. We only installed the 64 bit version of the Oracle client. I am running on Windows Enterprise 2008 R2 - 64 bit. EAS, Essbase, EIS are all 64 bit installs. I believe Studio is the only one that is 32bit. However we are not currently using this product.

Hi Mike,
With Oracle Support's help, we got 3 of the 5 servers working now. We were using the Datadirect drivers but were configuring them wrong! You have to use the Standard Connection portion in the setup, specifying the Host, Port Number (1521) and the SID. We were using the TNSNames Connection which worked in the past, but apparently does not now.
So I am down to 2 servers not working. They are both Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit, running Oracle EPM Essbase 11.1.2.1. When I Open SQL in EAS it prompts for database (Essbase Server, App, DB) and when I hit ok it pops up with "Network error: Cannot Locate Connect Information For []". We did not do any of the suggestions in the document you linked to get the other 3 servers working. When you hit ok on that error, you then get another error stating, "There are no Data Sources defined. 'SQL data sources' option will be disabled". We do have datasources defined on the server.
Any ideas?

I am using Essbase Studio Release 11.1.2.1.00 for developing XOLAP cubes and deploying them on to Essbase server .
I am getting the below Error while deploying the cube onto Essbase server.
error : Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Failed to build Essbase cube dimension: (TimeHierarchy) .
Caused by: Cannot get async process state. Essbase Error(1021001): Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server.
From Essbase Studio -> Datasources tab, I could able to connect to SQL Database server..Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

There was a problem with my Essbase Server..so now i m pointing to other server.
now I am getting the below Error:
Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Cannot end incremental build. Essbase Error(1025008): Join Specification near [[TIMEID]] is invalid. Please verify the Xolap Schema file.
Please let me know how can I validate my cube and what changes might require in my Cube definitions?

Essbase Studio - Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server

Hi all,
I am new to Hyperion and am having trouble deploying what seems a simple cube in Essbase Studio.
My environment is Windows 2003, EPM 11.1.1.2, SQL Server 2000.
I have the following two issues which may be related.
1. The EPM System Diagnostic tool says that Hyperion Foundation cannot connect to the SQL database.
Error:
Failed: Connection to database
Error: java.net.UnknownHostException: <server name: <server name>
Recommended Action:
Every other EPM application is able to connect to the database. I have tried re-configuring Foundation Services and checking the config files and nothing looks wrong. I would appreciate advice on how to fix this.
2 In Essbase Studio, I was able to connect to the database where the source data is, build the minischema and create dimensions and measures. But when I run the cube deployment wizard I get the error:

I have checked the DSN as well as the connections set up within Studio, and they are all able to connect to the database. I am using the admin user for the Essbase server and have created a different user for the databases where the data resides and the shared services database. I tried using the same user all the way through and this didn’t help.
Can you please advise what else I can check or change to resolve this issue.
Also, can you work in EAS with cubes that are created in Studio? I tried looking at it and I got an error that the rule file couldn’t be accessed because it was created in Studio.
After the above failures, I tried creating a cube in EIS, with mixed success. I have been able to load the members and data without errors. But when I try to view the data in the cube, I am seeing field names for the measures instead of the data itself.
...Definitely more questions than answers at this stage of my learning.

I don't know if you found an answer to you question after so many months but I was hoping I could be helpful.
The issue you are experience happens often when the dimension that you are getting an error on, in this case TIME, is built from a snowflake lineage and there is a bad foreign key reference. This dimension is most like high-up in your outline build process for Essbase Studio and this prevents the build from happening usually early on.
Check your logs also. They are in Hyperion > Products > logs > essbase > essbasestudio.
You can also make your logs more verbose by setting a configuration variable in the essbase studio server.properties file but that should only be used for debugging as it really saps performance.
And, yes, you can of course edit an Essbase Studio deployed cube in EAS. However, any changes you make to the cube in EAS are subject to being wiped-out upon the next Essbase Studio deployment of that Applicaion/Database combo.

Multiple dev environments of CRM 2011 on one SQL 2012 server

I have requirement to install multiple development servers of CRM 2011 which would use one SQL 2012 Server.
As you know, you need separate CRM 2011 Reporting Extensions, which means that Reporting Services (SSRS) should be installed not in SQL 2012 server but in the same server as CRM 2011. For SSRS (on CRM 2011 server) I want to use SQL 2008R2 Express (licensing
issues).
Is it possible to use SQL 2008R2 Express only for SSRS, while CRM 2011 is using SQL 2012 on different server?
I get errors while creating organization:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The feature: "Customizing security roles" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.
Environment information:
CRM 2011 on Windows Server 2008 R2. In the same server SSRS 2008 R2 on SQL 2008 R2 Express
CRM database in different machine with SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2012.

SQL Express is not supported for Dynamics CRM. Plus, the only way to have completely separate installations of Dynamics CRM pointing to one server for SQL is to used named instances of SQL Server on the Windows server you're installing SQL.
So you literally would have to install SQL multiple times on that one box.
Instead of going through all that effort, why not just install Dynamics CRM once, and then make multiple CRM deployments using the CRM Deployment Manager? You can make as many CRM environments as you need with a single install of Dynamics CRM. This works
great in dev environments where you need multiple instances for multiple devs. Plus, it gives you exactly one point of administration when it comes to the CRM install, and is a lot more supportable.

I imagine a ton of people are attempting to activate after the update, and the server is getting overloaded. Simple patience, maybe keep trying, and if possible, try a little later. Think of it as all those people lining up at Apple Stores + about a million more.

SQL Server 2012 setup program won’t allow you to perform a downgrade from SQL Server 2014 Express Edition. Backup/Restore
and Detach/Attach won’t help you either.
One option you have left is using SQL Server Import/Export Wizard as explained on the following article.

yes, you can downgarde you r SQL Server 2014 to 2012 Version. for Customers who have licensed software through a Microsoft Volume Licensing program are eligible to use prior versions of the software edition that they have licensed. This is known as
a downgrade right.
In general, the
Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) provides download access only to the current (N) and the last (N-1) version of products(2014, 2012). however, as of December 2012, a limited set of N-2 and N-3 prior product versions remain available for download through
the VLSC. for SQL Server you can also downgrade to 2012, 2008 R2 and 2008.
Note: In addition to VLSC download software access, Volume Licensing customers can order physical media (CD/DVD) copies of their licensed software through the VLSC.
if you purchase your SQL Server as FPP(BOX) product, you can also downgrade it to 2012 but you Need to have the media + key product of 2012 Version.

Dreamweaver CS6 trial (on Windows 7) wont connect to IIS (v7) Server using "FTP over SSL/TLS (explicit encryption)". I have a NEW Godaddy SSL certificate installed on the IIS server.
On connecting Dreamweaver states: "Server Certificate has expired or contains invalid data"
I have tried:
-ALL the Dreamweaver Server setup options
-Using multiple certificates (tried 2048 bit and 4096 bit Godaddy SSL certificates)
-Made sure the certificate 'issued to' domain name matches my domain name.
I am able to connect no problem using Filezilla, with equivalent Filezilla setting "Require explicit FTP over TLS". I can also connect fine using Microsoft Expression web.

My comments:
1) You should update your tread (forums.adobe.com/thread/889530) to reflect that it still occurs on CS6 (I had already read it but figured it was an old tread and thus should be fixed by now).
2) You said “These warnings will also pop up for your users if you have a store saying the SSL certificate does not match the domain/ip and this can make users checking out in a storefront very nervous” . This does not seem to be correct – my https pages display properly using the same Godaddy certificate … using IE:
3) Godaddy is not my host (I use Amazon AWS) – but the SSL certificate is from them.

That's usually a symptom of a phone that was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it.

SQL 2005 will not connect in SQL 2012 profiler

We have a few SQL 2005 databases that we manage. I went to do a trace on them(recently upgraded to 2012) and it gives me the error, "SQL Server Native Client 11.0 does not support connections to SQL Server 2000 and earlier versions".
According to MSDN it does. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280356(v=SQL.110).aspx
"SQL Server Native Client 11.0 supports connections to SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008
R2, SQL Server 2012, and Windows Azure SQL Database."
Any clue why it wouldn't let me connect?

Can you specify the following parameter in the "connect to server" dialog when you load the Profiler --> click on "options" button and go to "Additional Connection Parameters" tab and paste the following?
DataTypeCompatibility=80

Sql 2012 server for SCCM 2012 - Agent not starting

In our environment we have a Sql 2012, and it was working fine till now. but after installation of RDP role and subsequent installation of certificates for remote desktop in the SCCM server ( SQL 2012 is
installed in it)
we are facing the issue - Sql server management studio not connecting ( windows authenticaltion)
1) A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)A
2) I tried starting the sql agent service in services.msc and the below error came
The SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped.
Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.
3) In the Sql Server configuration manager also tried starting the sql agent but
The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion.
Consult the event log or other applicable error logs for details.
The widows event logs show this error
A fatal alert was generated and sent to the remote endpoint. This may result in termination of the connection.
The TLS protocol defined fatal error code is 20. The Windows SChannel error state is 960.
We have removed the certificate and the RDP role in that .
Can anyone please help on this

I would check for error messages in the SQL Server ERROLOG file and also Agent's SQLAGENT.OUT file.

Unable to connect to SQL 2012 on Windows VM from gallery

I had deployed new virtual machine from the gallery, windows 2012 with sql 2012 but fail to login with default authentication
I had followed the directions as in: "Provisioning a SQL Server Virtual Machine on Windows Azure" (http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-provision-sql-server/)
but fail to login to SQL with the following error:

Hi,
To connect to the Database Engine from another computer, configure SQL Server for mixed mode authentication.
Add the port number after the server name.
Also try connecting with the IP address.
If no progress, please check the error message in ‘\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.<instance name> \MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG’
