VSS Check in/check out problems

I just upgraded to DW8. It seems a step backward from DW MX
2004. Especially with VSS. First of all, it takes forever to sync
with the VSS server. Then, after waiting for mintutes to check out
a file, it still doesn't know if the file is checked out or not.
Both Check In and Check out menus (under site) remain enabled.
Worst of all, I can't do a find an replace on a file that's checked
out already. It keeps telling me the file is not checked out.
Does anyone know how to fis it? I downloaded the latest
patch... still no success. I'm about to uninstall it and revert
back to MX 2004.
Thanks in advance.

Hi - Yes, I have an old version of Contribute on here.
Probably part of the problem.
Anyway, after some back-and-forthing with Murray and a
conversation with an Adobe tech, I got things running again. Maybe
the same strategy will work for you.... and hopefully it's a
long-term fix for us both! See thread:

  • Problems with people overwriting files with check in/check out

This has to be the most frustrating problem I've ever
    experience in my life.
I work in a team of 4 (we're all located in different states
throughout the US). We have a major website that we all work on and
we are all frequently updating pages on the site. We all use
Dreamweaver and we all have the "check in/check out" feature
enabled to ensure that we know who is working on what and don't
    overwrite each others changes.
This however doesn't seem to be working. We have all noticed
the past 6 months or so that every so often we will find files that
have been reverted back to an older version of the file. For
instance... We will change meta tags and keywords on certain pages
and 2 weeks later we will access the same page only to find that
the meta tags and keywords we had updated have been rolled back to
a much older version of the file that had no meta tags at all.
That's just one example but this seems to be happening every
so often and we're all getting frustrated as heck with it.
Basically I'm curious to know if anyone else is having the same
problem and what the possible solution to this might be? There has
to be a culprit I just don't know what it is.
Also, will it matter if we work in remote view or local view?
I wouldn't think it would matter as long as we have check in/check
    out enabled.

in the check in/check out options, do you (and everyone else)
    have
"check out when opening" enabled? the problem may be that
    someone is
opening files on their local machine without checking them
    out first.
you would definitely need to work on the file from the server
    (remote
view) because, say someone else edits a file, and then you
    need to edit
that same file. if you edit your local version without first
downloading/checking out the file from the server, you will
    overwrite
whatever changes the other person made when you upload it. of
    course, if
you try to upload it without first checking it out, it should
    tell you
that someone else already has it checked out and ask if
    you're sure you
    want to put it.
it's possible that there's some technical glitch or something
    going on,
but i suspect that you have at least one person who isn't
    following the
rules of check in/check out properly.

  • How to hide check-in, check-out and publish buttons

    hi,
i am new here and hope someone can help me:
users of a community can edit some content items. they can open these items with this link (from administrators guide for al interaction publisher 6.5 p. 10-28):
    </pcs:value>/published_tools/content_item.jsp?&view=submit&ciid=<pcs:value expr="pcs_id"></pcs:value>" target="_blank"></a>
the link works, users can edit the items.
problem is, that i do not want to show the "publish button" to the users. the content item should be published automaticaly after the user clicks on "save". i also do not want users to see the check-in, check-out and preview buttons. they should just open a content item (+ simultaneously check-out), edit it and save it (+ simultaneously check-in and publish and close the content editor).
i thought this can be done by the "view" parameter, but nothing happens if i use it. any ideas?
    thx

    Hi vhspec,
This is a common problem. A creative way to solve the problem is to point yourself to the description field of each input on a data entry template. When you have the need to make any dynamic changes to the entry templates simply drop some javascript into the description field of an input and write the appropriate javascript code to either hide buttons, change behaviour etc. When the data entry template is displayed to a user the javascript in the description field will be executed by the browsing. Fortunately publisher does not check the description fields or encode them so you can get away with a lot.
The only problem with this approach is while you are altering the UI the underlying data model will still allow users to publish. So if an unauthorised user saw fit, they could publish content.
Have you considered creating a workflow so that users in specific groups cannot publish? that way only a controller down the line would be able to approve and publish.

  • Unable to check in or out as someone is editing (but they aren't!)

    Hi,
Bit of a weird one here, I'm working on some corporate documents that require linking content, I've done this by exporting incopy ICML's then placing them, assign them and then create a ICMA this allows the team to make edits in Incopy that carry across a number of documents. It's all on a server and seemed to be working fine but now we can't seem to check in or out one particular box, it says it's being edited by another user but he isn't so I'm a bit stumped. We get the pencil with the red cross through it. It seems to be working on other documents fine just this one is causing an issue.
    It's all in Indesign/Incopy CS6. Windows 7
    Thanks in advance.

We have had a similar problem as well - inCopy claims that an assignment is checked out, but the user cannot access it to check it  back in  or make changes.
Did you guys ever figure out a fix?

  • Why did auto update stop working - check box greyed out!

I suddenly realized it had been months since I had seen an update at home, but was getting them regularly on my office machine. Checking help about I found I was running 3.0.6, I tried to click the check for updates and it was greyed out. Checking options/advanced/updates I found the box was checked but greyed out.
I had turned off checking for updates in my wife's account as she has no privilege and is not computer literate. I run my account without privileges but provide admin password when requested.
My solution obviously was to download the current version (3.6.11) and no longer are any boxes greyed out.
Question is - have I set up Netscape in a way that will result in the problem reoccurring?

None taken. Firefox is built off what used to be the Netscape browser; common parentage.
You might need to login to an admin account to update Firefox with Win7, but that's purely conjecture. 3.0.6 is so old that I wouldn't worry about it anymore; see if 3.6.11 updates automatically or from the Check for Updates menu item once 3.6.12 is released.

  • EBS open items in check in & check out accounts

    Hi,
We have been using EBS (MT940) for over a year without any problems. Suddenly, we are facing the following problem with 2-3 branches of our bank. After uploading the bank statement received from the bank, the amount still show as open items in the Check in & check out accounts inspite of appearing in the main bank account. We then have to manually clear these.
Please suggest how should we identify the problem.
    Regards,
    Sangeeta

    Hi Sangeeta,
By checking in and checking out accounts do you mean Interim acccounts used while posting the posting the bank document.
Also when you open items, is it that a document is posted when you upload the bank statement ?
If you can share the details of your EBS customization like the posting rule setup, then I can help in you query.

  • OneNote file cannot be synced because Check-in Check-Out or Required Properties are enabled in the SharePoint library

    Hi All,
As per my requirement, I have a Document Library that's set to YES  for "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited" and i have created a Document Set inside this Document Library.Document set is configured
to create a OneNote document content type within it. When i am creating a OneNote document I am getting below mentioned Error while trying to sync.
This section cannot be synced because Check-in Check-Out or Required Properties are enabled in the SharePoint library. Disable Check-In Check-Out and Required Properties or move this notebook to a different location. (Error code: 0xE000078E)
Is there any settings that i can do without modifying Document Library Settings.
I just try out the information given on below mentioned U, but No Luck.

Can anyone of you suggest me the best way to achieve this?
    Thanks in Advance!

Have you looked specifically at the Title field?  That's a common offender.  It might also be worth activating Content Type management on your library, so you can inspect each of the fields in the content type that's being saved too

  • Check-in and out freezes Dreamweaver CS3

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 on a PC with Windows Vista
Ultimate in a business environment. We have a seperate development
server (Local) and Internet server (Remote) that we use to check-in
and out and put files. This is done using our LAN. Previously we
used Dreamweaver 8 with the same setup without problem.
Initially DW CS3 worked properly with this same setup.
However, approximately 6 weeks ago the length of time to check in
and out, or put a file began to increase. Within the last several
days, it has been impossible for me to check in or out a file
without the process freezing DW. Another co-worker can still
check-in and out files from her PC using DW3, but it takes several
minutes to complete a check-in, out or put.
We know that memory is not a problem on either server and the
only thing that has changed on my PC with this setup is Adobe
Contribute being installed. I use Contribute to administer two
sub-sites for two employees who use it to update the sites.
I have uninstalled Contribute from my PC, removed my
Contribute profile from the server folders, uninstalled and
reinstalled DW3, the usual trouble-shooting things and DW3 still
freezes. BTW... I also have the same problems on another PC that
    has XP Pro and DW3.
Any insight on what I am missing on this is greatly
    appreciated.

  • Disable document check in/check out

    Hello,
I've seen similar questions on this forum, but none were my problems.  I don't my document libraries to allow users to check-out files.  I've gone to the document library settings>versioning settings and set "No versioning" and "no"
for "require documents to be checked out before they can be edited.
However, some how, documents are still being checked out.  I don't want this to happen.  How do I prevent any file in any document library from being checked out?
Please, don't post me any links to another site, they aren't helpful after going through the other forum posts related to this problem.
    Thanks!

  • Check in / Check out files option

New to the forums, new to Dreamweaver. I was recently hired
to manage a small companies web site. They use Dreamweaver MX. I
have hardly used Dreamweaver but its generally simple to catch on
to. My boss lives in another state so we communicate via emails and
phone calls. He currently manages the websites which I am taking
over. He will still poke into the site off and on and we are trying
to find a way to not overwrite each others files.
I noticed the check in and out from remote and have been
looking for more information on how it works and how to use it
along with any issues we might have. It seems pretty straight
forward but we are looking for some sort of documentation to see if
it is what we need to use. I work on the site during the day and he
works on it at night so I dont think it will be too much of an
issue but on those rare occassions we want to know what will be
    best.
If I modify a file during the day whats to say he has or gets
my current file then modifies it rather than me making changes and
uploading it then he makes changes then uploads it then finds that
a newer file exists so he would have to update the file then make
changes to it after wasting that time and effort.
Hope this makes sense, looking for information and feedback.
    Thanks!

When you check a file out for modification, it then lives
    ONLY on your local
site. Nobody else can check it out to edit until you check it
    back in.
It's primitive but it can work if you can tolerate the
    overhead of checkin
    and checkout.

  • Check in check out in Dreamweaver CS5 with php site

I created a new site for a client that has about 160 pages, three user login levels, site security, php, forms, . . . The client has a staff member who will make updates to pages with changing content but now wants access to the entire site so she can change wording on other pages as well - she's their new communications coordinator and it certainly makes sense to me. But I'm worry about giving her access to the entire site - I've since learned about check in and check out in Dreamweaver. Since I can't just throw pages in a directory for her to access via ftp (have set that up for one staff member creating gis maps), I'm wondering if this check in check out option is the better way to go for us.
She will use Dreamweaver, like me. Although we do not share the same office or have access to the same network. The only sharing we can do is on our hosting services server. Can I "check out" files I need her to leave alone and leave them that way? That way she'll have access to all of the primary content pages, not the scripts, css, includes, admin, js, bin, etc files. It should make life easier for her, too, I think.
What's common practice for this? And how does synchronization fit in?

    Digital Ink LLC wrote:

This situation really needs a proper Content Management System (CMS): Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Expression Engine all come to mind.
She's a content contributor, you're the system admin. She needs a bulletproof browser-based editing environment to do her thing without worrying about anything else.
Down the track, she'll probably want repeat content that she can control on different pages, content expiry, scheduled content, categories, tags, sidebars, headlines: all standard CMS features.
Using Dreamweaver and Check In/Check Out is just going to create one issue after another.
The current solution was probably adequate in the past but it's reaching the limits of its scalability. It's really time for a new solution.
    Have you considered a CMS?

  • Business process check-in/check-out - who has checked out and when?

We have been using the business process check-in/check-out functionality for 18 months and there are an increasing number of process's that have been checked out to the maintenance project and never checked in again. Is there a straight forward way in the system to see who had checked out a business process and when? When using the SOLMAN_DIRECTORY transaction it is easy to see which process's are checked out as they are marked the red OUT symbol and have check-out status = checked out - but no other information about the check-out seems to be available either in this transaction or on a separate report.

    Hello Steve,
What Peter neglected to tell you is once you enable history on the Solution a history log will begin to populate.
It will show as the standard "Log" icon for HISTORY. Every change will be logged at each level of the structure.
Here is an example of a History log line....while it is not a check-in.out change it will give you an idea
Name             Date             Time              Change                               Object                           Old Value           New Value
    I809573     24.01.2011     22:33:32     Process Availability     Material Management          7 x 24 h
What you can do is filter the report on the values that will give you the check-in/check out against the objects you want to track.
This is how you can use the "Enable History" to get the information you are interested it.
Just two things to be aware of : 1) The history will not be retro active (unless it was already enabled), so it will start from the day you enable logging (history), and logs take up space, which at some point maintenance will likely be required, however I don't see these logs having high disk usuage.
If it were documents that you wanted a report on check-in/check-out for, you likely could use the transaction Solar_Eval under Documents, but there are no standard reports for this...and filtering the History log file accordingly is about the best reporting
that would give a result. This log file can be printed, or you could capture the printoutput to a file and there is your Electronic version of the report.
    I hope this has helped.

    Paul
