VSS support on 4500 Sup 8e

Dear Experts,
I've been waiting for IOS 3.6.0Xe to enable VSS in a data center deployment.
I heard that Cisco has planned to release it in June, 2014 but till now there's no update for this.
Is there anyone who can help me to know whether Cisco is releasing this in June 2014 or I've to stay on the HSRP.
Best Regards,
Umer

Cisco has released 3.6.0 last week, can somebody please confirm if VSS is supported on Sup 8e with this long awaited release?
I need to know this urgently as my client is requiring this feature since so long.
Best Regards,
Umer

Yes, DBL is a (unique to) 4500 sup QoS feature.  Likely configured in your egress service-policy.
I don't recall the sup7 QoS architecture, but switches often provide fixed egress queues that you map traffic to via either CoS or ToS markings.  The QoS section of the User Guide, for your IOS version, should explain.

  • VSS Lic on 4500 with Sup7L-E ?

    Hi,
Does anyone know the correct way to lic VSS on a 4500 SUP7L-E ?
    At
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_27990-01.html
Under Table 5 - Support by Image Type; VSS is listed as available on IP Base (SUP7E only) and a plain Yes under Enterprise Services,
inferring that you need Enterprise Services lic on SUP7L-E to get VSS...?
    But
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps10902/ps12332/at_a_glance_c45-696645.pdf
Under Table 1 - Minimum License for VSS; IP Base or higher (7-E) or special license (7-LE and Catalyst 4500-X)
Can find no option on CCO / configuration tools to list a 'special' VSS license for 4500R+E chasiss with dual SUP7L-E and IP Base
How are you meant to purchase/license VSS on 4500E Chassis + SUP7L-E ?
    thanks,
    Sez

    I have the same issue.
We are configuring VSS on Sup7L-E which has been purchased with IP  Base licensing, however when we look at the licensing summary, it  indicates that a feature of Enterprise Services has been configured .
Currently we have only configured VSS, so this  indicates Enterprise Services is required for VSS, however I cannot find  any information confirming this.

  • What license neede to VSS in CAT 4500 with SUP7L-E

I have two identical chassis with identical cards and supervisors SUP7L-E. License level is ipbase. Is it possible to deploy VSS in this configuration?
I thought it is, but I've found doc http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-x-series-switches/at_a_glance_c45-696645.pdf where:
Supported supervisors on Catalyst 4500-E Supervisor Engine 7-E or 7-LE (identical pairs)
Minimum license IP Base or higher (7-E) or special license (7-LE and Catalyst 4500-X)
    What means special license?
In this guide https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/124626/virtual-switching-system-vss-configuration-cisco-4500-series-switches we have only:
    3) Minimum license : VSS will work with IP BASE or ENTSERVICES license; it doesn't work with LAN BASE .For information about Software Activation Licensing please refer Cisco Catalyst 4500E Supervisor 7-E and 7L-E and Cisco Catalyst 4500-X Series Software Activation Licensing Deployment Guide.

  • Is VSS supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2?

Is VSS supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2?

VSS support (converting standalone switches into a VSS)  was introduced with LMS 3.0.1 if I remember well and it is still there in LMS 4.2 (Cisco Prime Infrastructure):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_lan_management_solution/4.1/user/guide/configuration/configvss.html
    Config Mgmt is supported, also.

  • JDeveloper 11 and VSS Support?

The VSS Extension (available at sourceforge.net) does not work with JDev 11 (Just JDev 10). Are there plans for VSS Support in JDev 11, or am I better off convincing my management that JDeveloper projects should use either Subversion or CVS?
Edited by: klee on Oct 22, 2008 10:26 AM

This extension is open source - so you can take on the task of upgrading it to support JDeveloper 11g :-)
As for us at Oracle we don't have plans to do development around supporting VSS - we do have support for MS Team Studio though.
I would recommend that you push your managers towards using Subversion - the fact that it is a free tool and a very popular tool in the Java community should be enough of an argument - and the fact that the support in JDeveloper is built-in can be the cherry on the cake.

  • VSS support

I've just started evaluting JDeveloper and like it so far. One thing I was wondering is if there are any Visual Source Safe support - something I need to have unfortunately.
I only find CVS as default and Google didn't help me out there, maybe someone here knows about it?
    Best regards
    Stefan

    No VSS support right now.
We do have support for CVS, Clearcase, Perforce, and Serena Dimension.
    (see the help->check for updates).
Support for Subversion and Windows Team Server is being developed right now.
For a simple way to integrate with third party version control tools see this one:

  • Vss quad sup support for 4500 series

    Hi all
I'm looking at at 4507r+e with dual supervisor 7
I want to run vss, however does it support quad supervisors?
I hear the second one will have to be in rommon?
In a failover how would I get the 2nd supervisor working ?
Would you need to manually boot it?

Have a look at the config guide:
Quad-Supervisor (In-chassis Standby Supervisor Engine) Support
The Catalyst 4500 series switches support dual supervisors in a redundant chassis, which can be configured for SSO or RPR mode. However, when a chassis is running in VSS mode, it supports a second supervisor engine, but only in rommon mode. In-Chassis-Standby (ICS) can not participate in control, management, or forwarding plane functioning. This makes ports on the supervisor engine in rommon mode available for forwarding although it neither participates in any switchover nor provides protection against any failure. In VSS mode, an In-Chassis-Active (ICA) supervisor engine participates in VSS control/ management operation and manages ports on the supervisor engine in rommon mode.
If the second supervisor engine is inserted in a redundant chassis, the following information applies:
•It must also be manually configured for VSS mode, i.e., it must have been converted from standalone to VSS mode previously. If you insert a supervisor engine that was not configured for VSS mode, it will disrupt the operation of the ICA supervisor engine. If it was previously configured, automatic boot must be disabled (i.e., to boot only to ROM Monitor) with the confreg command in rommon.
The supervisor engine does not takeover or boot automatically when the ICA supervisor engine fails. A manual boot up is required to make it participate in VSS; it then functions as an ICA supervisor engine.
More details on rommon commands are found at this URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/15.1.2/XE_340/configuration/guide/rommon.html#wp1013959
•A supervisor engine's conversion from standalone to VSS occurs per engine. If two supervisor engines exist in a chassis, one should be retained in rommon or removed, before conversion occurs. You can convert the second supervisor to VSS mode while the first supervisor is removed or in rommon, with the additional step of setting it to "boot only to ROM Monitor." When both engines are converted to VSS, they can be inserted into the chassis together and re-booted.
•Booting a chassis with two supervisor engines configured for VSS causes one of the engines to become the ICA and participate in VSS. The other engine, which becomes the ICS, will continuously reload. The secondary supervisor (the ICS) must be configured to "boot only to ROM Monitor" with automatic boot disabled.
•When the ICA fails, the ICS doesn't take over because ICS support of SSO or RPR mode is unavailable. ICS (the secondary supervisor) must be booted manually to become the ICA and manage the VSS operations. For this to happen, the former active supervisor engine must remain in rommon mode.
•ISSU support requires ICA supervisor engines on both chassis. The ICS supervisor engine does not participate in upgrade or any forwarding operations.
•Because ICS supervisor engines do not communicate with ICA supervisors, VSS and other configurations must be done at conversion time on the ICS. If not done or the configurations do not match the necessary VSS parameters (like, SwitchId, Domain, and VSL configurations), it cannot form a VSS when ICA goes down and ICS is booted manually. You can, however, enter these "bootup" commands to make it join an existing VSS domain.

    Hi Rajasehar K,
According to the cisco doc's it is mentioned that 4500-E chassis supports vss technology and  Sup-8 also Support's VSS technology.

  • Twingig support in 4500 Supervisor II+10GE

    Hello,
    I have a doubt regarding the support of CVR-X2-SFP - aka twingig adapter - in WS-X4013+10GE (Supervisor II+10GE in a 4507R-E chassis).
This sup has 2 10GE and 4 GE interfaces and the 4 GE interfaces are all occupied. We need to connect 2 more switches that don't have 10GE ports, so the idea was to use the twingig adapter to use 2 more gigabit SFP's. The problem is I can't find it in any compatibility list, either stating it is supported or not supported.
Has anyone tried this in real life?
    Thanks for any answers!
    Miguel

I couldn't find that particular (older) Supervisor but it is conspicuous by its absence on this page where it specifically states:
To increase the flexibility of X2 ports on the Supervisor Engine 6-E, Supervisor Engine 6L-E and WS-X4606-X2-E, the Catalyst 4500 series switch, as well as Catalyst 4900M and Catalyst 4948E, support TwinGig Convertor modules. When you plug a TwinGig Convertor module into an X2 hole, it converts a single X2 hole (capable of holding one pluggable X2 optic) into two SFP holes (capable of holding two pluggable SFP optics). This enables you to have 10-Gigabit ports and 1-Gigabit ports on the same line card. It also allows you to use Gigabit ports, and then switch to a 10-Gigabit port, when needed.

  • Configuring VSS on Catalyst 4500 Supervisor 8-E

I am trying to configure VSS between two Catalyst 4510R+E chassis that are equipped with dual Supervisor 8e blades, all running enterprise services licenses. I have configured SSO and NSF on both chassis, but when I get to the step to configure the virtual switch domain, I'm unable to proceed any further. I'm only able to get the following output:
    Switch(config)#switch virtual ?
    % Unrecognized command
According to the VSS setup documentation, I should be able to input switch virtual domain <#> at this point to configure the virtual domain for VSS.
I'm guessing that the problem is the IOS version that the supervisor engines are running, which is 3.3.0XO. I know on the Supervisor 7-E blades, IOS version 3.4.0SG or higher is required to run VSS.
Can anyone confirm whether or not 3.3.0XO supports VSS? Cisco's data sheet states that the 8-E supports VSS, but the release notes are rather vague:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_29983-01.html
If 3.3.0XO does not support VSS, can anyone confirm whether or not 3.4.0SG is supported on the Supervisor 8-E?

IOS-XE 3.6.0 does support VSS on Sup8 - Please make sure to upgrade the rom before attempting to upgrade the sup.
     ROM version = 15.1(1r)SG4

    Luciano,
Try adding 'ip wccp check services all' to your global config if you have multiple wccp service identifiers attached to an interface.  Each service identifier will need a mutually exclusive ACL for the appropriate service identifier to trigger.

Yes, all device packages are installed (including 7.0) and the Pi 2.1.2 patch.
Info from "ifm_config_archive.log" when trying Archive the Configuration:

Maybe the Prime don't know where to find the vlan.dat on the 4500X-VSS ?
    #dir cat4000_flash:
    Directory of cat4000_flash:/
        1  -rw-        2236                    <no date>  vlan.dat
    sysObjectID (1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2)  is
    .iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.cisco.ciscoProducts.cat4xxxVirtualSwitch
That is not the expected and supported value  "4500X-16"  above
