Vsync broken with i915 since [mesa/intel-dri/libgl]-7.10

Hi,
I have a netbook with intel i945gme.
Since last update with mesa 7.10 running glxgears is not smooth and the fps are ~ 1/2 of the screen refresh rate.
chris@chriseee ~ % glxgears
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
192 frames in 5.1 seconds = 37.623 FPS
146 frames in 5.0 seconds = 29.159 FPS
^C
130 chris@chriseee ~ %
But it does work without vsync. It is really smooth then (and proves that the fps are higher then 1/2 of the screen refresh rate when not limited):
chris@chriseee ~ % vblank_mode=0 glxgears
ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment.
ATTENTION: default value of option vblank_mode overridden by environment.
1633 frames in 5.0 seconds = 326.594 FPS
1639 frames in 5.0 seconds = 327.623 FPS
^C
130 chris@chriseee ~ %
I have no xorg.conf and no ~/.drirc.
Can anyone reproduce?

For me, personally? YouTube / Flash and even Neverball and Osmos. If I let the mouse idle, the performance begins to "jerk" a bit. It has gotten better with each new iteration of the intel driver, but it was noticeably worse with 2.10 through 2.12. Now it's not really too big of a deal (but it's still worse than 2.9.1 and earlier.)
I understand this "glxgears is not a benchmark" argument, but it does allow you to observe a change. For instance, running glxgears with intel driver 2.9.1 would not change framerate based on idle/active cursor. Then with 2.10+, it suddenly does, so it at least marks a noticeable difference that you can refer to if you have other issues. "I noticed such and such after I updated from version X to version Y. Maybe that's why this crashes after the recent updates."

    OT: A simpler way to check if some packages are installed:
    $ pacman -Q intel-dri libgl foobar
    intel-dri 9.0-1
    libgl 9.0-1
    error: package 'foobar' was not found
    What's the output of 'groups'? Maybe you need to add yourself to 'video' group?

  • [SOLVED] cant upgrade because "mesa-dri and intel-dri are in conflict"

    When I type

    I get

    I answer n

    I answer N
    then I get

    I dont want to replace intel-dri with mesa so What do I do?

    so it looks like I already have mesa dirvers installed - so maybe I should go ahead and answer YES as I am worrying over nothing?

    Check the "latest news" on archlinux home page .
    I have the same issue but using the catalyst-total-hd234k package from AUR. Should I say yes to remove also this package?
    I'm waiting for an answer from the maintainer of the catalyst package.

  • Intel-dri and mesa-dri and vdpau in general

    I updated today and allowed pacman to replace intel-dri with mesa-dri. There is an optdep called mesa-vdpau but I don't see anything about this on the wiki for intel graphics.  Can someone set me straight? What drivers do I need for my in CPU graphics to work best?
    xf86-video-intel is my xorg driver and required. I have some optional ones too including, intel-dri [replaced by mesa-dri], mesa-libgl (a dep I think), mesa-vdpau (I installed manually), and libva-intel-driver.

    After latest updates, vdpau working fine here. Not sluggish anymore. Also issue was solved with VLC crashing when opening some videos from file manager.
    @Karol
    Yes, I have had libva-intel-driver installed for sometime.

    For me native apps works too (glxgears and glxgears32 from mesa-demos and lib32-mesa-demos). I don't have any 64-bit windows apps to test. Here is similar bug report (closed): https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27645.

  • Radeon HD 7800 (catalyst) + Intel HD graphics (intel-dri) seg fault

    Hello, Arch community!
    I'm using two monitors setup: one is connected to the Radeon HD 7800 other is connected to the motherboard D-SUB socket.
    Symptoms:
    - X starts if to use opensource radeon driver.
    - X starts if to use only one screen inside ServerLayout section.
    - X fails to start If two screens are chosen in ServerLayout section and it prints the following log:

  • [SOLVED] StarCraft 2 flickering w/ mesa / intel HD graphics 3000

    I'm using mesa 8.0.4 and Intel HD Graphics 3000, wine 32-bit and -opengl and force_s3tc_enable=true
    It flickers on ground in lighter colors and over the screen in triangles, also sometimes green color is over the screen, it depends on the map and the colors of the map.
    I will try to take a video.
    UPDATE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsaEd-dTAlQ <-- this is one of the artifacts/flickering, it looks very much like this. I can get the same SCV flickers in campaign !
    I've never experienced this before, I am not sure if it's caused by an update by mesa or StarCraft 2.
    Mesa/Intel HD 3000 however runs StarCraft 2 fine, but this problem really has ruined my game within a short period of time, I feel really epileptic !

    I think I found a fix, haven't tested thoroughly yet though ... Since I reinstalled StarCraft 2 and deleted my .wine directory, the registry keys for graphics tweaking was also gone.
    I re-created:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D]
    "DirectDrawRenderer"="opengl"
    "Multisampling"="disabled"
    "OffscreenRenderingMode"="fbo"
    "PixelShaderMode"="enabled"
    "RenderTargetLockMode"="readtex"
    "StrictDrawOrdering"="disabled"
    "UseGLSL"="disabled"
    As told here:
    http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
    NOTE: UseGLSL is special and is only needed for video cards like mine (Intel HD Graphics 3000) that forces s3tc like explained here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … r_Problems
    And it seems to work ...
    I think I have to remove VideoMemory all together, because my StarCraft 2 has crashed 2 times now complaining about low video memory - so it's better with an OpenGL auto-detection of vram or if the problem persists a much larger value.

  • I have 10.6.8 with 1GB, 2.4GHz intel. What must I do to be able to access the Cloud?

    I have 10.6.8 with 1GB, 2.4GHz intel. What must I do to be able to access the Cloud?

    Upgrade to 10.7.2 or later. However, to do so you will need to upgrade to more memory. Since you have 10.6.8 installed you can upgrade directly to Mountain Lion once you increase the amount of RAM and if your model otherwise meets the requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)

  • Problems with Mail since update Yosemite

    Hello
    I have a MacBook Pro 13" from approx. Dec. 2010.
    I made last weekend the update to Yosemite. Since then the Mail.app does not work correct anymore. I can send mails and I can get mails from my webmail server if Mail.app is open. When I start Mail.app new I can not get the incoming mails from the webmail server. Mail.app does not download the incoming mails arrived in the meantime as the Mail.app was closed from the webmail server. I tried to create the mail account new but that did not work. I can not create a new mail account either.
    Now I tried to create a new main account and I installed one of my mail account. there. In this new main account the mail.app is working well again and got all mails downloaded.
    So it looks that during the update of Yosemite my existing main account got an error.
    I could work now on the new account. But how can I bring all adjustments and data's out of the existing account into the new account? Is this possible to do?
    Or how can I fix the existing account that has an error? Do I have to go back to Mavericks again? And how can I go back to mavericks like it was before the update to Yosemite?
    Hope I can get some answers that would help me in this case.
    Thank's in advance!
    Reto

    Here is my list of problems with Mail since upgrading to Yosemite (all was working just fine before) ...
    [MacBook Pro, Retina 13", late 2013, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB, 500GB running OS X Yosemite 10.10]
    Mail is very slow (seems to be a memory leak?)
    Read emails not being marked as read (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
    Deleted emails not being deleted (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
    When replying to a message, does not close original message (sporadic - sometimes it works just fine)
    When dragging a message to a folder cannot scroll up (can scroll down)
    Message is sometimes blank (but the same message opened fine previously or later)
    Message is sometimes one line of text and it is not possible to easily scroll horizontally to read the message (two finger side swipe on trackpad works but not Magic Mouse ... easiest way to read emails is to forward or reply)
    Calendar invite messages not closing or being deleted when invite RSVP is completed
    I should roll back my OS but this is a real hassle so I am hoping for Apple to submit an update to Yosemite or Mail & Calendar.
    Has anyone else had any of the above problems? Anyone got any temp solutions until updates come from Apple? Perhaps changing settings can resolve some of the above issues - I have tried but failed.

    My ipod nano will no longer sync with itunes since i purchased an iphone 4s and synced the phone with itunes.  When I plug my ipod into my imac, it does not even read or recognize my ipod.  What do i do?

    Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable?  Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?

  • What's wrong with networking since Leopard?

    Hi,
    I'm with Mac since years. I was a PC User once and spent hours with all kinds of network troubles. What convinced me with Mac right in the beginning was easy networking: It just worked!
    But since Leopard things got worse: I have several MBP's, iMacs, Airport Extreme's and Airport Express's at different places which I installed, and I face the same problems at EVERY place:
    - I can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility, ...
    - Sometimes only two Macs are allowed to connect to one AExtreme
    - Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
    - After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
    - Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    - connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
    Now I know about networking, about configuration, I've done this for years. Whatever I do, problems disappear and appear again, at different times, at different places with different hardware.
    What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.

    What's wrong with networking since Leopard?
    on my network and many i have setup there have been no problems with leopard. However there are always teething problems with new operating systems. Thankfully with leopard only a tiny percentage of users experience technical difficulties.
    can't connect to AExtreme for several reasons: timeout, security incompatibility,
    is it set to use WPA/WPA2
    Airport doesn't find Aiport or any other networks for minutes
    sometimes my macbook pro takes a while to show up any networks if there are lots in the area this is because it is scanning them all.
    After connecting to the router, can't get an IP (self-assigned IP only) - other PCs get an IP.
    What kind of router are you using? What happens if you powercycle the router?
    # Aiport Extreme crashes (yellow blinking)
    # connection loss (even when AExtreme is very close)
    Have you tried resetting your AE to default. reinstalling its firmware or checking for a firmware update?
    Have you tried changing hte wireless channel your networ is broadcasting on?
    What is wrong with Leopard? Such problems remind me of times with Windows98 and stuff like that.
    Did you upgrade install your leopard installation or did you do clean (erase) installations?
    Have you tried created new network locations?

    I have been a loyal customer for years and have a hot spot because internet options are very limited in our rural area.  I have stayed with 10G since the beginning.  Most months I don't use the 10G.  Verizon has no problem with me paying for Data I don't use.  This month my daughter comes home from College and she accidentally uses 24G.....14 over get blind sided with $140.00 in overages.  I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time.  Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help.  Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out.  I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!!     Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them?   We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

    There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
    You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
    Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
    There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
    Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
    Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.
    Good Luck

    I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service that didn't work. Verizon advised us that would upgrade both of our phones (to see if that solved the problem). Ok...this is where Verizon has forgotten customer service rules. He order 2 phone...one for himself, one for me. 1st the wrong address on the package..Fedex couldn't deliver...2nd...missing condo number Fedex couldn't deliver again...(2nd call to Verizon)...3rd package was finally deliver with 1 phone...missing my phone. Contacted verizon rep...reorder my phone again..but sorry we cannot give the same price as quoted on 21April...even though...its our mistake...Ok...Ok..what a surprise..but we can do this...after 65 minutes...found a price that was a little bit more...fine...just order the phone....I reordered phone on 28April...on the April 29...no email..so I can Verizon for the 4times in a few days..sorry your order was delay due to our Fraud dept. OK...talked to fraud dept...ok..account is good..will release phone and ship. OK...Next day, no email with deliver confimation. Contact Verizon 5 times now...sorry..your order was cancelled...YES...cancelled again...2nd time now...but we can reorder...OK...sorry but we cannot honor that price that was quoted..really...agent messed up...again...but we can do this for you....I don't understand...your mistake...ALL the times...
    Strange ...how my order gets cancelled twice by Verizon's mistake....yet you cannot honor prices that your agents quoted!!!
    I didn't reorder the phone....I cannot in good faith same with a company that does not stand behind their own mistakes...and worse...they make the poor customer pay for it...
    I will not be renewing my contact...its time to Cricket Wirless...which my sister-in-law loves for half the cost....

    I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
    VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
    1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
    2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.

    Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
    Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
    Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
    LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)
