VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP Digital Camera - Does it work with iPhoto

I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera for my son. One option is the VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP 3.1MP fixed focus camera. I saw it at Ritz Camera. Its only $69.
Has anyone tried connecting this camera to iPhoto? It has built in memory (16MB) plus an SD slot. I'm guessing that even if the camera won't work with iPhoto, the SD card can be read in an external reader. Your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

BenQ Digital Camera: Does it Work?

Hi all,
I am going to buy the BenQ E600 digital camera. However, in the Apple supported cameras page (http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html) I can't find this model. Moreover, there is no driver available for MacOS X.
So, I am wondering: will it work with iPhoto? Don't want to waste 150 euros...
Does any of you use a digital camera that is not included in that Apple list?

Unless someone responds who's used it successfully with a Mac I would think twice about buying it. Unless you're buying from a supplier that will let you return it within a reasonable amount of time. Buy from a reputable dealer that allows returns and then give it a go.
However, it if uses a removable media card and you can get a card reader for that card you probably would be able to use it with a Mac. But you wouldn't be able to plug in the camera and have the OS or iPhoto recognize it.

USB Camera does not work with iChat

I'm having a terrible time getting my ToUcam Pro II to work with iChat. I downloaded the iUSBcam program. That didn't work. I downloaded the program Macam, and copied the proper file into the Quicktime Library (as suggested) and that didn't work. I downloaded IOXwebcam, and got an error stating that it wouldn't run due to the fact that it didn't have the proper security settings. Sigh.
So... what am I to do?
I'd like to buy a webcam that does, actually, work with my 8 month old Mac Pro 4 core mac desktop, but the iSight camera is ridiculously expensive. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

An X-box 360 cam will do it although not in that list.
Anything that is USB 2.0 and marked UVC compliant or Vista Certified.
Be Aware some Mac Keyboards do not have USB 2.0 ports.

Cameras does not work with my T510i on WIn 7 64bit SP1

Hi,
first noticed that Fn-F6 app say all the time that my built-in camera is used by another program (in fact it means just that it cannot access the video preview). Then bought USB camera from Microsoft and it appearad that any video camera connected to my T510i does not work!
Except Skype - all of them works fine in Skype.
As I further examined the problem is with the DirectShow rendering wrong filter graph when accessing any of the cameras registered in the system.

As I have found about DirectSHow filter graphs are not pre-defined but are rendered by the system from the settings and codecs available. It seeems that there is wrong setting somewhere (possible wrong grabber ouptut setting) that results in inserting unwanted AVI decompressor despite there is no AVI stream there (as I have checked AVI decompressor is quartz.dll which is windows default codec?). According to the graph that works at the output of the grabber there is MPEG2 stream which is correct as all the cameras reports that they have internal MPEG2 encoder (not AVI), which only after color adjustment of the stream is accepted by video renderer.
How to change or reset to defaults that?

From your previous post, it sounds like at one point you are getting the pop up that says "installing device driver software," correct?
If you are not getting this pop up in the lower right hand corner of you screen then I need you to:
1. Try a different USB port on your computer. Some computer USB ports are "touchy" and if you try a different one it will work. It all depends on the make of the computer.
2. Try a different USB cable. You might have a bad USB cable. Also, be sure that the USB cable isn't longer than 3ft long.
3. Go into your device manager and see what printers have been installed. They should be listed under "printers" or "other devices" You might have to go to view and check show hidden devices to see these on your computer. If there is a yellow triangle or question mark on this device then you have a conflict with your computer. This is something in your computer causing this and not the software download.

Sony digital camera wouldn't work with macbook after OS 10.4.7 update

I am having problem with the my sony T-1 digital camera, after I plug it into Macbook, it will not show that the camera is being connect at the USB port.( with OS 10.4.7)
The guy at Genius bar told me that there could possibly be some problems with the software and ask me to reinstall the OS X software that came with Macbook. I did. I erased everything and reinstall the whole OS X. Right after that my Macbook was able recognise the digital camera that was plugged into the USB.
However, after I updated my software to 10.4.7. Now it would not recognise the camera at USB port again...
What should I do now, please help. Thank you.

USB and Firewire Zip and Jazz drives exist which work with Mac OS X a lot better than SCSI. I would suggest selling the old SCSI one to someone who can better use it, and get yourself more up to date drives:

Oregon Scientific ATC5K action cam - does it work with iMovie / Leopard?

I'm looking at getting an ATC5K for a skiing trip but the specs say it is only compatible with OS X 10.4 (Leopard) and below. Can anyone confirm if it works ok with 10.5.x and iMovie?

I've just got my ATC5K and I can confirm that you can import the AVI file format from it into iMovie without converting into a DV stream. iMovie will not pick it up automatically, you have to use the import movie option, but it works fine. As an aside, iPhoto picks it up automatically and treats it as a camera movie which at then end of the day I guess it is.
For a cheap, entry level action cam it's pretty good and I can't wait to try it out in anger on slopes!

Quicktime does not work with iphoto

I can mount it as another drive and export it or use a flash card reader
IMO that's a preferable method of getting photos off your camera and into iPhoto. It prevents the possibility of an interrupted import from the camera to iPhoto due to low battery, loose cable, etc. which can and usually will damage the library. I prefer a card reader so that I can rename the photos on the desktop before importing into iPhoto. The camera's naming scheme, IMG_XXX.JPG just doesn't give much info about the content. I add the date (in the international date format) with a brief description: 2010-03-12-Grandparents Day-001.JPG, -002.JPG, etc. I use R-Name to sequentially batch rename the files.
Other workflow possibilities are discussed in The DAM Forum, digital asset management.
Just some food for thought.

FaceTime HD Camera (Display) not working with most applications

The Thunderbolt 27" LED Cinema displays built in camera is not working with most applications. The camera does not work with FaceTime, iChat, Skype and Google Talk. FaceTime says "There is no connected camera", even though there is. Weird thing is it DOES work at http://www.testmycam.com. I can't get it to work with any other flash based apps, just testmycam.com.
My MacBook Pro 17" (late 2011) built in camera works perfectly with everything.
Things I've already tried:
- Shutdown
- Restart
- disconnect/reconnect
- removing power from display
lame, lame, lame. $1k monitor, flippin' webcam doesn't work.

I think I have found the problem. I decided to go page by page through the forums and found this argument when running a Java program through the console:
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true
So it would be like:
java -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true SwingSet2
That works flawlessly, so it has to do with direct draw (So it's either DirectX or my video card drivers which are up to date).

Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

Take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar for testing, and if it is defective and under warranty they will replace. Since you say iPhone 4, was this a used or refurbished iPhone?

After Lion upgrade, camera does not work on internet services like facebook

After upgrading to Lion, the onboard camera no longer works with internet sites like Facebook.
I tried this with Safari and Google Chrome with the same lack of results.
You will select take photo in Facebook and the next screen is locked up. This failure occurred on two separat Macbooks.
Yet this does not happen with my Macbooks with Snow Leapord - I tried.
Any ideas on how to fix this.
Lion appears to be the first Windows like Mac operating system (glitchy). Not ready for primetime. Is this an omen of what Apple without Jobs will be like (again).
My second computer to be upgraded had conflicts with certain start-up programs that had the effect of locking out the Internet connection.
I had to manually delete these programs to get Internet to work.

Seeing the same issue on a C2D Macbook, camera worked fine yesterday afternoon using GTalk. Upgraded to Lion last night now the camera no longer shows up in any of the utilities that used to be able to see it. Don't buy the "Must be a hardware problem" too wide spread for it to not be software related.

Import from digital camera no longer works

I suddenly can't import photos from my Casio digital camera.
It worked fine two months ago, with the same computer and the same camera.
When I connect the camera to the computer, and turn the camera on, the camera appears on the Desktop, and iPhoto launches.
At this point iPhoto used to display an "Import" button.
But not anymore.
Now iPhoto just displays the photo library with the already imported photos.
No "Import" button.
To force the import I tried Shift-Command-I.
(I have never tried Shift-Command-I before, but I suppose it was worth a try)
Shift-Command-I gave me a directory dialog box.
In the directory dialog box I navigated to the camera, found the camera's subfolder with photos, and clicked "Import" in the directory dialog box.
iPhoto began to prepare for import, but crashed after five seconds.
Clicking on "Stop Import" had no effect, and I had to force quit.
I tried all the above several times, and got the same result every time.
Any ideas?

Try:
1- log into another account and try importing into a test library there (do no have iPhoto delete the files!).
2 - boot into Safe Mode and try in your primary account.
It you can't import in #3 and can in #2, a reinstall of iPhoto would seem to be mandated.If you do try a reinstall of iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If you can't import in either #2 or 3, then a reapplication of the 10.4.10
COMBOupdater is suggested. Followed by a repair of disk permissions, of course.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Go to your actual realplayer (program), click the top right button (Realplayer with an downwards arrow) and update your software. Make sure Firefox is closed while you do this.

AFAIK, no one makes an add on camera for the iPad1. If selling your iPad1 and buying an iPad2 is out, then you can use Skype on the iPad1. Although the other person won't see you, the iPad1 will receive Skype video so you can see them, if they enable their video.
