VXI-MXI-2 missing in resource manager

Hello,
I have a VXI-MXI-2 and I configure the A16 write posting to enable. After that i can not work with VXI-MXI-2.
When resman run, it found a instrument at address 1 but got a Generic I/O error on VXI D16 peek.
I try to set all jump status to default and set the U35 Restore Factory Configuration to Yes. it is the same.
How do i fix this problem?

My Friend.
            I understood your frustration totally. I got the same problem. There is not much you can do about it. Probably you won’t like my solution either. It is very painful experiences. Are you ready? Here is the solution.
                        Reinstall all of your software.
                        Yes, Reinstall it. The whole thing, LabVIEW, Drivers, and etc. But you must uninstall first.
                        If it does not work, change the computer.
                        The system should run and found the device. It may takes you a couple of days to do it. But it should work.
                        I ran into this issue a few times. Every time I end it up uninstall and reinstall every thing. And it runs without any problems.

  • VXI-MXI-2

    I have multi test stations with a PC runing Windows XP, each configured with an NI PCI-MXI-2 Card. Each station has two VXI Chassis, each with it's own Slot-0 controller, daisy-chained to run off the same VXI System, which the system identifies as VXI0.
    When I build a new station, I ghost a Hard Drive from an existing station and use that in the new station. The ghosted drive works fine on the station from which it was created. On a new station with a ghosted drive when I open up MAX, I see two VXI systems listed...VXI0 and VXI1. VXI0 is listed but not recognized (i.e. I can't talk to it). VXI1 appears to be recognized by MAX, but not by NI-VISA. (I can't open up a VISA session from either MAX or VIC).
    I can delete VXI0 and rename VXI1 to VXI0, but VISA still can't talk to it. Also, Resman reports still think the hardware resides on VXI1.
    I get similar problems with NI-GPIB cards. In this case, I believe each PCI GPIB card has it's unique Serial Number encoded in it's ID, so when I move drives from one station to another, I'm able to successfully delete GPIB0 and rename and then used GPIB1 to GPIB0 and all works fine. It appears the same approach does not work on my PCI MXI card.
    Is there something else I need to do to re-identify the newly found VXI1 to VXI0? I have multiple files that expect all my instruments to be located on VXI0.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello TomMcG,
    I believe the issue you are seeing with ghosting a hard drive and moving it to a new station is that it is carrying over the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) configuration with the VXI0 configuration, and the current configuration of the chassis plugged in does not match the previous one from thus it creates a new resource name called VXI1. I would like you to delete VXI1and VXI0 from Measurement & Automation Explorer, and then uninstall the VXI driver for the VXI-MXI 2 from the Device Manager.  This will dissociate the driver from the hardware and not allow you to detect this hardware in MAX. Then when your restart your machine the association will be reinstated and (since there is no VXI0 in MAX) be titles VXI0 in MAX. You can access the device manager via Start>> (Right Click on) Computer and select manage. Then navigate to Device Manager underneath Computer Management>>Systems Tools>>Device Manager. Check to make sure the VXI Bus/devices is there, then right click on the MXI 2 module and click uninstall.  You will have to restart your computer in order for the connection and software to be reinstated. Hopefully this will allow the VXI to re-identify the newly found VXI1 as VXI0. Also when you attempt to use Visa Interactive Control (VIC) does it throw you an error?

  • VXI Resource manager problem

    I have the following configuration:
    VXI-PCI system (National Instrument 777119-32 VXI-PCI 8015 interface kit +
    National Instrument 777178-01 mainframe extender.)
    One PC.
    Two VXI cages.
    In the first VXI cage at slot 0, I installed NI zero slot controller,
    configured to logical address 1.
    In the second VXI cage at slot 0, I installed NI zero slot controller,
    configured to logical address 2.
    The VXI cages are chained using MXI-2/M3 cable.
    In the first VXI cage at slot 1, I installed a RACAL Instrument (1260-35
    with option OPT-01T) that also needs a logical address, configured to
    logical address 3.
    In the second VXI cage at slot 1, I installed a RACAL Instrument device
    (1260-45 with option OPT-01T) that also needs a logical addre
    ss, configured
    to logical address 4.
    Running the Resource manager with only one RACAL device in either cage -
    result OK (logical addresses 1,2,3 or 1,2,4).
    Running a full system result - FAIL with the message "The device at logical
    address 3 did not respond to the read protocols command.
    The same problem appears if I configure the logical address of the OPT-01T
    to 255 (auto assign logical address).
    Please advice.

    Eli-
    I just noticed this unanswered question. I am guessing you've gotten your answer from another source by now, but in case anyone else has similar issues, I recommend our Logical Address Wizard, which helps configure multi-chassis MXI systems. Your case illustrates a common mistake when assigning LA's; having your two VXI-MXI-2's at LA 1 and 2 will not work. According to the LA Wizard, a combination like LA 4 (containing an instrument at LA 5) and LA 6 (containing an instrument at LA 7) would work.

  • VXI Resource Manager

    I am using TCP/IP in LabVIEW to work with a VXI PC from a Sun Workstation. Sometimes the VXI Resource Manager gets a little lost and cannot talk to VXI instruments after a few errant calls. I have to stop a VXI Server software app on the PC, run the VXI Resource Manager from Max, and then restart the VXI Server software. Is there anyway to run VXI Resource Manager from command line or from LabVIEW? I searched around for it but could not find it. Thanks.

    Hello,
    On a windows machine, Resman.exe is located in: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\VXI; on Linux it is in /usr/local/nainst/nivxi/bin and is simply called resman. Can you use the "find" or "locate" commands to find resman on the SUN machine? I think proper syntax would be:
    find / -name resman
    or
    locate resman
    With the location information, I think you should be able to write a program on the VXI PC side which launches Resman programmatically.
    If you have any further questions or have trouble, repost and we'll continue to explore it!
    Thank you,
    Best Regards,

  • NI VXI Resource Manager keeps on saying locked up

    Whenever I run resource manager, it keeps saying it locks up last time when it was running although it was not really locked up last time. Anybody knows how to fix this? Thanks.

    I have some additional information and questions regarding this issue.
    What version of NI-VISA and MAX do you have installed?  There is
    an issue with MAX 4 and Resman crashing when run outside of MAX.
    A patch for this issue is on our website.  However, I have never seen the issue this patch fixes not hang Resman.  So my guess is that this is not what is happening in your case since you say it works for a month or so.
    What happens when you run Resman twice in a row?  Do you get the
    hang message the second time?  If you do, it's likely that you
    have a registry permission problem.  To detect lockups, Resman
    writes a value to the registry when it starts, and deletes it just
    before it exits.  If the registry value is still present when
    Resman starts, it says it detected a lockup.  Thus if the key has
    been created but not deleted due to registry permissions problems,
    Resman will -always- say it locked up.  Are you logged in as
    Administrator?  What permissions do you have on the computer?

    The point is that over TCPIP the MQ XA connection factory is not available.
              The MQ shared memory/JNI driver is required to access it, which limits
              access to those processes that are on the same box as the MQ q manager.
              This is an MQ series limitation.

  • Resource Manager

    Hi All,
    I would like to implement resource manager via oracle service. Code is as follows:
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_PENDING_AREA();
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_PLAN(PLAN => 'my_plan',COMMENT => 'Resource plan/method for ERP Database');
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_CONSUMER_GROUP(CONSUMER_GROUP => 'normal',COMMENT => 'Resource consumer group/method for normal jobs');
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_CONSUMER_GROUP(CONSUMER_GROUP => 'adhoc',COMMENT => 'Resource consumer group/method for adhoc jobs');
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_PLAN_DIRECTIVE(PLAN => 'my_plan',GROUP_OR_SUBPLAN => 'normal', COMMENT => 'normal sessions');
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_PLAN_DIRECTIVE(PLAN => 'my_plan', GROUP_OR_SUBPLAN => 'adhoc', COMMENT => 'adhoc sessions');
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.CREATE_PLAN_DIRECTIVE(PLAN => 'my_plan', GROUP_OR_SUBPLAN => 'OTHER_GROUPS', COMMENT => 'mandatory');
    EXEC DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.SET_CONSUMER_GROUP_MAPPING(DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.SERVICE_name , 'goslive', 'normal');
    EXEC DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.SET_CONSUMER_GROUP_MAPPING(DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.SERVICE_name , 'test', 'adhoc');
    exec dbms_resource_manager.set_consumer_group_mapping_pri(2, 7,1, 9, 8, 10, 5, 4, 3, 6);
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.VALIDATE_PENDING_AREA();
    exec DBMS_RESOURCE_MANAGER.SUBMIT_PENDING_AREA();
    ALTER SYSTEM SET RESOURCE_MANAGER_PLAN = 'my_plan';
    But looks like it doesn't work. Any idea what i'm missing.
    Same code if I use with user name wise it works fine, as I can assign initial consumer group for the user. But not able to assign initial consumer group to the service.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Hal.

    It seems that we need to grant the switch privileges with Oracle 10.2.
    If granting the switch privilege is not done, any connection is assigned to the OTHER_GROUPS resource consumer group.
    Here is my test case.

  • Safari on Leopard Crashes:  "Safari is missing important resources..."

    I installed Leopard, all was working, today I get:
    "Safari is missing important resources and should be reinstalled."
    Outside of the normal install, I installed all the optional stuff. I don't know if that contrbutes to the failure or not. The browser starts, works on some pages, then on others dies.
    Thanks for any help.

    need some assistance to resolve this challenge, Apple support keeps stating that I have to do an archive and install or a clean install for this situation, I find it appalling that since I have install Leopard, apple support response to any situation such as crashes, their answer is to do a clean install because the problem is to WIDE, I had live dictionary that was in manager input that didn't respond so I deleted it and then after a reboot SAFARI kept crashing it has been thsi way for 3days, any help would be truly well appreciated, I have done 3 clean install in one week, I am no expert, however there ought a be a simple resolve to this???

  • Resource Manager and Images

    Hi,
    I upgraded to RH9 (from RHX5) and very happily started to use both the Snippet and Resource Manager functionality.
    I seem to have hit a mental block despite reading the help and looking up this forum regarding updating images in the resource manager .....
    I have multiple projects and the same image is used throughout the projects - sometimes only once in a project and sometimes multiple times in the same project.
    Lets say this image is called Picture1.gif - due to program re-design I now need to update Picture1.gif.
    Picture1.gif is stored in Resource Manager and as it is linked then a copy is also stored in my project.
    I delete the old image, create a new image, rename it to the original name Picture1.gif and drag it to Shared Resources and then drag it back again so that it is linked.
    Despite the back and forth steps this does in fact work - the image is updated in other projects as expected.
    However, if an image appears in a project multiple times then I have to change it everywhere before I can rename it,  etc. etc.
    I feel quite sure that I am missing something here and that the whole process should be simpler!!
    I would have expected somehow to be able to update the image in the resource manger and then sync.
    TIA
    Morven

    Hi Morven
    In my own experience, it really shouldn't matter where you update the image, as the Resource Manager is a two way street. If you update in RoboHelp, it should be sensed and the updated image copied from your project to replace and update the centralized image. And likewise, if you update the centralized image, Resource Manager should update your project to match the updated centralized image.
    Again, I woudn't want to first delete the image followed by saving a new one using the same name. I would either open one of them (centralized or project) and edit as needed. Or edit a copy, make edits, then save using the same file name so the existing image is replaced.
    To the best of my knowledge, Resource Manager should sense the change as the date/time stamp should be different as well as possibly the size. Then the automation should kick in to update the image's counterpart and synchronize everything nicely. The only fly in this ointment would be if the new image were different in size from the pixel measurement standpoint. If the new image is wider or taller or narrower or shorter, you would need to ensure that you reset the sizes in your project so they match the new dimensions. Otherwise they will be a bit skewed and have the fun house effect. I believe RoboHelp supplies a script for this.
    Cheers... Rick

  • XRPM Resource Management issue

    Gurus,
    In xRPM under Resource Management Tab. I am not able to find any resources under resource view.TAble is empty.
    Although I have created Resource pool and assinged a resources to administrator.
    Please let me know if i am missing any settings
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Riya,
    Here are the steps to assign the Resource Manager to a Resource Pool:
    1) Create a Resource Pool
    2) Add resources based on the selection criteria.
    3) Add a Resource (BP in employee Role) as Resource Manager to this Resource Pool.
    NOTE: this resource manager should be attached to your User.
    to see which User this Resource Manager is attached to, go to Portfolio Management -> Administration -> Resources
    find the resource with its Name or Resource ID (BP) and Display. you will see the linked user. If it is not linked to any user you can assign the user to this resource manager.
    4) when you login with this Resource Manager's User, and navigate to Resource Management -> Resources, you will see all the resources under the Resource Pool where this current user is Resource Manager.
    Hope this will help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Piyusha

  • Can't see boards in a VXI chassis connected via VXI-MXI-2 cards using a GPIB-USB adapter

    I'm working on a system that has two VXI enclosures, and the two are bridged via VXI-MXI-2 boards in each of them.  The first one has a GPIB-VXI board in slot 0, and I have a Winodows XP computer connected to that with a GPIB-USB-HS adapter.  The problem is that I cannot see any of the boards in the second chassis over GPIB in the Measurement & Automation Explorer.  As far as I can tell, everything is configured correctly; the VXI-MXI-2 board in the first chassis is in the last slot and has a logical address of 126, and the VXI-MXI-2 board in the second chassis is in slot 0 and has a logical address of 127.  To make things even more confusing, if I put a VXI PC in slot 0 of the first chassis, it seems to see everything without any problems.  Do you have any idea why this might be happening?  I'm pretty new to working with these systems, so I might be missing something obvious.  Thanks in advance.

    Nevermind that -- I just discovered that you can't bridge two VXI chassis with VXI-MXI-2 boards if you're using a GPIB-VXI board as the controller.  So, I'll just have to find another way to accomplish what I need to do.

    Hi Dean and Dina,
    Thanks for your answers. Following is the missing info:
    - Yes, we are using the AIA PIP
    - We are using 'Workplan enabled' projects for integration with a 'Partially Shared Structure'
    - In integration options, we are only integrating 'Workplan' with a 'Working Version'
    - We are trying to send only progress information from P6 to Oracle Projects, not the time card info
    Iniitially, when trying to send progress from P6 to Oracle Projects, we were getting the error - 'You cannot update a published version of the workplan'
    However, after checking the following flags, we stopped getting any errors in AIA/middleware and still not getting any data into Oracle Projects:
    Projects --> Setup --> Integration settings:
    Integrate - Workplan - Send Task - Current Working Version
    Integrate - Workplan - Receive Task
    Workplan --> setup:
    Allow Physical Percent Complete Collection
    Allow Physical Percent Complete Overrides
    Thanks for your help.

  • Setting Resource Manager to start at boot automatically

    I am putting together a script to automatically install multiple vendor software packages for a test system.  As part of that script, it would be nice to set the Resource Manager configuration to start at boot.
    Is there a registry setting or equivalent that I can set (instead of providing manual instructions such as listed at Configuring the VXI Resource Manager to Run at Startup )?

    Not sure how much detail you are looking for. I did this by setting up a start/stop script in /etc/init.d (chkconfig 345 91 10).
    Since I still run the backend (database) as the ORA_OWNR and only run the webservice as root, I start this in a two step process.
    the shutdown is a 3 step process because the node_manager gets left running until the stopall command is issued.
    Code excerpt:
    case "$1" in
    start)
    # Oracle listener and instance startup
    echo -n "Starting Oracle: "
    # Changed ses to run as root so that the webservice can bind to port 80 instead of port 7777
    # Backend (aka ses database) still needs to run as ora_ownr, so start becomes a
    # two step process
    su - $ORA_OWNR -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/searchctl start_backend < /home/$ORA_OWNR/.tmp_passwd.txt"
    $ORA_HOME/bin/searchctl start < /home/$ORA_OWNR/.tmp_passwd.txt
    touch /var/lock/subsys/oracleses
    echo "OK"
    stop)
    # Oracle listener and instance shutdown
    echo -n "Shutdown Oracle: "
    # mid-tier owned and stopped by root. backend owned and stopped by ora_owner
    # node manager is left running by stop command (root), so a stopall needs to be re-issued
    # after the database has come down.
    $ORA_HOME/bin/searchctl stop < /home/$ORA_OWNR/.tmp_passwd.txt
    su - $ORA_OWNR -c "$ORA_HOME/bin/searchctl stop_backend < /home/$ORA_OWNR/.tmp_passwd.txt"
    $ORA_HOME/bin/searchctl stopall < /home/$ORA_OWNR/.tmp_passwd.txt
    rm -f /var/lock/subsys/oracleses
    echo "OK"
    reload|restart)
    $0 stop
    $0 start
    echo "Usage: $0 start|stop|restart|reload"
    exit 1

  • Unable to add File Server Resource Manager Tools on Windows Server 2012 - Errors on restart and roll back install

    Unable to install Windows Server 2012 Feature -  [Tools] File Server Resource Manager Tools.
    Installs, however when I restart the server error messages appears saying feature unable to install, windows reverting changes.
    In the Setup event logs have the following information message "Update FSRM-Infrastructure of package FSRM-All failed to be turned on. Status: 0x800f0922"
    Does anyone have any idea's on why this Feature can not be installed ??
    Scott

    Hi Shaun
    Tried both of your suggestions, however neither strategy worked.
    Strategy 1
    Tried installing via powershell - "install-windowsfeature -name fs-resource-manager -includemanagementtools"
    Feature un-installed itself during the restart.
    Attempted to use the command "DISM /online /remove-feature /featurename:FSRM-Infrastructure-Services".  However
    this did work because one the Service was'nt installed or two because there was no command option for "/remove-feature"

    Strategy 2
    Tried installing via powershell, using the following command DISM
    /online /enable-feature /featurename:FSRM-Infrastructure-Services, however got the same result, the install backed out during the restart.
    All up back to where I started?
