VZAccess Manager Volume won't Eject

I am running a Macbook OS 10.6.3.  Just installed the latest VZAM software 7.1.2, build 2472c.  However, the volume won't eject (virtually) after the installation.  ...more precisely, it ejects then re-mounts.  I threw away the image, restarted, did a command-e, hit the up-triangle next to the volume in the finder window...it unmounts for 2 seconds, then auto remounts...it always remounts...how do I permanently get rid of it.

Eric - thanks for the suggestion. Just before I heard from you I had tried ejecting the external hard drives again and this time the B partition as well as the C partition of the G-Drive disc refused to eject, which leads me to think that it's not just a Time Machine issue. As far as I was aware, I had nothing running that was accessing the B partition.
Anyway, I tried shutting down and noticed a very brief flash of a dialogue box that look like the ones I'd had when trying to eject the drives. It came & went too fast for me to read it though. Then I unplugged the FireWire cable from the Mac and started it up again. Next I plugged in the FireWire cable again and all the discs appeared on my desktop. I selected them all and ejected them and this time it was successful!
I've remounted the drives and I'm now waiting for Time Machine to have another try at backing up to the G-Drive C partition and see if it is going to fail (as it reported several times earlier today).
If backup failures are still reported then I'll reformat the G-Drive disc (yet again!!!), check over a day or two that Time Machine is making backups to it satisfactorily, then try shutting down, and disconnecting the external hard drives. After that, I'll reboot and re-connect the drives and see if Time Machine is still happy.
Shutting down _is_ a usable workaround, but it is much more time-consuming and inconvenient. I often want to take my Mac into another room temporarily and I've never had trouble before with just ejecting all the hard drives.
Thanks for your suggestion. If you (or anyone else) can come up with a way to make the eject work properly I'm all ears!

  • Computer Frozen, Won't Load, Start Up Disc won't eject

My daughter put her computer to sleep while the pinwheel was spinning. When we opened the computer, the screen was blue and nothing would load. We shut it down and turned it back on and nothing would load, the circle under the apple just kept spinning.
I went to the manual and it said to try Disk Utility.
I inserted the start up disc and followed the instructions in the First Aid pane.
It said, "First Aid Failed. Disk Utility stopped repairing MacIntosh HD because the following error was encocuntered. --The underlying task reported failure on exit." Yeah, that makes sense to me. Huh?
I tried to Verify the Disk and it said "Volume needs repair"
Again I chose Repair Disk, but nothing, it just hung.
So I tried to exit. THen I tried to eject the disc. But the disc won't eject.
I managed to get to the Installer screen and I went into Disk Utility to see if I could eject from there, but it won't let me. Now I'm running the scan again.
    My multiple problems:

  • MacBook won't eject disk during multi-disk installs, or after an install

Oy, will the problems never stop?
I have a dual-core MB 2.66 machine. I just put a fresh 500 gig drive and installed a retail copy of Snow Leopard. That seemed to go fine. Now I'm installing apps. And what's cropped up is that the machine refuses to eject disks after the install is complete.
I had to run the Adobe CS5 install twice because of this problem; luckily it ejected disks as it was supposed to the second time around. However, with iLife, iWork, Quicken, etc., after the install was done the disk refused to eject, and I had to hard-quit and eject the disk during next startup. And now Final Cut Pro is acting the same way...I use the install disk, then put Audio Content 1 disk in...it churns for two hours adding those files, then asks for Audio Content disk 2...but WON'T eject Disk 1!
I'm at my wits end. I never had these problems with Tiger...

If I understand you correctly, you have two disks with Tiger and you installed a new disk on which you install Snow Leopard & apps.
Personally I would not have done this project that way. I would have used CCC or SuperDuper to clone one of the Tiger disks on to the new disk and then test to be sure the disk is working correctly first. A clone is a bootable copy of a system disk that contains everything from where the device used to make it.
Then and then I would install Snow Leopard. After installing Snow Leopard, you could use Setup Manager to copy over your data from the Tiger disk.
With the problemas you are currently having it might be easier to start over this way.

  • Mounting Windows shared disk - getting stuck; won't eject?

I'm sharing the C: on my windows 2000 server machine, on the network. Most of the time I can mount and eject the volume just fine.
However, sometimes it gets "stuck". Meaning, I can mount it once, then eject it, but when I try to mount it again, i get the ?-mark over the drive. I go to relaunch Finder, and the volume is still there, but it won't eject. I can browse it still, but every action I try seems to not cause it to eject. I have to reboot to get it to clear off.
Is there a way to force a volume to eject? Am I mounting my drive wrong in the first place? Is there a proper way to eject a volume? Thanks.

  • Ipod won't eject?

I just got a new iPod Video. I installed the software and plugged the iPod into my computer. But it won't let me eject my iPod - when I right click the icon and tell it to eject, it says the iPod cannot be ejected because it is being used by another application. I can't figure out if/how it's being used by another application because it isn't. I also tried to eject it by using the "safely remove hardware" icon on the taskbar, but also to no avail.
I appreciate any help in the matter. Thank you!!!

Here are several ways to Manually Eject your iPod
    And: How to Safely Disconnect
Other ways in addition to the above links are:
--- Eject the iPod using the System tray "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. It is only there when a removable device (like the iPod in this case) is attached to the computer. Right-click & select 'Safely remove..', then click 'Stop' in the next window, OK in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.
--- Reset your iPod, then disconnect when you see the Apple logo.
--- Hold ‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ to bring up the Windows Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and look for iTunesHelper.exe and iPodService.exe. Select each of them and hit the End Process button. Close the Task Manager Window and try ejecting the iPod via the safely remove hardware method above.
--- If you are still having problems you can try one more thing. Right-Click on the My Computer icon and select ‘Manage’ from the list of actions. Go to the Services and Applications item and from there the services item. Double click on the services item to bring up the list of services currently installed on your computer. Look for the iPod Service and double click on it. From the new window select Stop. Now try again to eject using the safely remove hardware option above.
--- If all of the above does not work, power down the PC and then remove the iPod.
After ejecting the iPod, try Resetting Your iPod to clear the issue.

  • Verizon VZAccess Manager (for broadband modem) will not even Force Quit

When I wake my MacBook Pro and launch VZAccess Manager it often hangsand Force Quit will not work (I didn't know that was possible). The only way to shut down is to press and hold the power button.
With each successive release of 10.5 my USB 727 modem driven by the VZAccess software is getting more finicky. I'm now making sure to disconnect and quit VZAccess before the MacBook Pro Intel goes to sleep. Since 10.5.6 this happens multiple times per day. I'm using the latest available VZAccess software.
A workaround that I would like: before installing VZAccess I got the modem to work just using the OS X network panel (WWAN / Other / Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script). But now I can't get that to work, even when I Uninstall VZAccess.
Does anyone know a way to undo the actions of VZAccess beyond what VZAccess Uninstall does? Does VZAccess overwrite the Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script supplied by Apple, and fail restore it when using Uninstall?
BTW, I've not been able to send the error report to Apple, because I'm in a rural location and don't have another way to connect to the Internet to report.

Contact Verizon. The problem is likely with their software not staying compatible. If they cannot provide a newer version of their software that is compatible then all you can do is downgrade to a previous version of Leopard with which their software worked. You can do that as follows:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Is VZAccess Manager compatible with Yosemite?

Has anyone been able to get VZAccess Manager to work under Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite beta)?

This is pathetic verizon. What's going to happen come December 25th when thousands of people get new macs for Christmas and find out your service won't work??? Can you say AT&T?! Spend less money on those stupid commercials and fix this issue. I now can't buy a new computer for my business because your lazy IT department can't figure out how to make the two play nice? Sorry if this sounds harsh, but this is truly unacceptable for such a large company. We are talking about an Apple product here. A very popular common sold all over the world product and it's incompatible with one of your core offerings.
    Fix this please.

  • Macbook 2009 won't eject disk

My Macbook won't eject my CD.  I've managed to get it in, but it won't eject, after trying pressing the eject button, holding it down while the computer restarts and the command prompt in Terminal.
Can any one help me please?

It's likely you'll have to get physical. This works but requires a few tries.
Take two playing cards. You'll use these as tweezers essentially. Use fairly stiff high quality ones.
Fish around gently and put one on top of the disk and one on the bottom of the disk.
Once in place keep sweeping in and pulling out as you hit the eject button trying to grab (with friction and sweeping motion) and pull it out. Don't fully remove the cards but keep sweeping in and out. It works on MacBooks and slot loading iMacs.
This is assuming your macbook still makes the eject sound like it's trying to push something out. I've gotten disks out that have had 2 disks stuck in as well as stuck disks from faulty drives.
IVe also also used business cards but playing cards work best.

  • VZAccess Manager for MiFi4510L?

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place.  I can't get on My Verizon without them sending me a temp password in a text message.  I have a MiFi4510L, not a phone.  Customer Service says I need to use VZAccess Manager to be able to  read the text message.  I cannot find a version of VZAccess Manager that supports the 4510L.
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks.

Hi John_Getzke, your MiFi device is activated with a wireless number to use our network just like a wireless phone. You wouldn't have known that unless you have a order receipt or bill.  You can find the wireless number assigned by doing the following:
    • While on WiFi, open an internet browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
    • Enter your password in the login field (default is the password found on the back of device under the battery cover ).
    • Click Advanced > Diagnostics and look for Phone No.
When you say trial, are you one of the trial users from the Google IO conference?  If so, those lines are activated under a demo account for the trial purpose and you won't be able to complete My Verizon registration for your own login.
If you are trialing during the 14 day return period, you can register once you follow the steps above to get your wireless number and go to www.verizonwireless.com/myverizon
Either way, you can still monitor your data usage by calling 800-922-0204 or download VZ Access Manager at www.vzam.net

  • I purhased an apple usb cd/dvd and I have a cd disk that won't eject even after going into controls and selecting disk eject any ideas how I can take of the issue?

I have a cd disk stuck in my USB super drive, it won't eject even after going to control and selecting eject disk

    Hi BCservant,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be concerning when you cannot eject a disk from your external drive. There are a few troubleshooting steps that I would recommend to help you get this situation resolved. Please use the attached article for troubleshooting information.
Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer - Apple Support
Doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times. Check the disc to see if it has a label or other material stuck to the disc that increases the thickness. Remove the label if possible.
If the disc will not eject, try pressing the eject key on the keyboard. Some older keyboards may use the F12 key to eject discs.
If the disc will not eject, try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
If the disc will still not eject, try holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer. The Superdrive should attempt to eject the disc.
If the disc continues not to eject, reset the System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
If the disc still does not eject, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional assistance.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Mini won't eject from iTunes 9.2.0.61

I upgraded to 9.2.0.61 about a month ago. Almost all works well, except my iTunes won't eject my iPod mini.
First, I get an error message that seems to come from Windows. It says "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive F:
Then, iTunes says "The iPod cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application". I have not used the iPod as a HDD in any way other than in connection with iTunes. Further, I never got this message before upgrading iTunes to a newer version - it disconnected correctly before the upgrade.
For now, I have to force the disconnection through Windows, after closing iTunes.
The iPod is set for "manually manage music". When I close iTunes, it briefly throws up a message "syncing iPod", but no content is changed.
    Ideas?

I've now updated to iTunes 10 and still have the same problem.

  • How do you remove a cd from the macbook air superdrive when it won't eject.  all is get is the option to burn a cd when i click eject

Just bought a mini and a dvd superdrive.  was uploading pictures and one cd won't eject when I click on the eject icon.  It will display that I can burn one if I insert a cd, but won't eject the current cd.  How do you override the pop up or manually eject the  cd from the superdrive without taking it to a store or asking for a replacement?

You can also eject a disc by restarting your computer and holding down the primary mouse button while the computer is starting up until the disc is ejected.

  • IPod stops syncing after a while, won't eject and then crashes iTunes

Whenever I try to update my iPod Classic 80GB, after 1000 songs or so the iPod stops syncing (gets stuck on a song). Then the iPod won't eject, even when dragged into trash.
Then, when trying to eject iPod or quit iTunes, iTunes crashes and has to be force quitted with iPod cable removed.
When I check my iPod it says there is no music/photos etc on it.
I have reinstalled the latest iTunes and restored my iPod with the latest version, my OS software is all up to date too.

Actually at 1200ish songs the iPod hard drive starts making some severe clicking/clanking noises. I'm guessing it means the hard drive is screwed since it's the same symptoms as my last iPod
Why does this happen? Both my iPods were about 2 years old when the hdd's started clicking, surely hdd's last for more than two years?

  • External Hard drive won't eject.

hi, im new to the boards. just having an issue with my new external hard drive. everytime i use it or i use my cf card reader which is firewire it won't eject either. i've read there are special commands to go in and see what applications are running and i've tried using disk utility to eject the harddrive. nothing seems to work. ive got all my photos from jobs on this harddrive and im worried that by pulling the cord or switching off the device is eventually going to render all my data corrupt or potentially erase it all. if you know step by step instructions to putting commands in to eject these things it would be of great help. im on 10.3.9 ibook g4.
the error is basically telling me the drive is still in use and can nnot eject. not sure why because there are no other apps running?

Well i think i figured out what was causing the issue. i had a jpeg in the trash. i tried to delete it but it states an error message that the jpeg is being used in another application. so i pulled it out of the trash then plugged my external harddrive back in and the tested it to see if it would eject properly and it did! so now i just need to figure out how to delete that jpeg? so the fact that this jpeg is somehow tied up in an application was causing my card reader and external harddrive to not eject properly? strange. thanks for the tip though. appreciate your input.

  • Leopard volume won't start up all of sudden. Utilities find nothing amiss.

I have a Leopard partition on the hard drive of my iMac G5 (non-Intel) computer that, all of a sudden, refuses to start-up. When I attempt to start-up the computer via that partition, which is one of four start-up volumes on the iMac G5, all I can get now is a perpetually spinning gear that never quite turns the crank to start-up the computer, even if I let the gear turn for an hour or so.
Since I do have a current, cloned backup of that volume, I am not concerned about losing data or time in restoring it to its former functionality. But I am mystified as to what is preventing that volume from starting up, so I'm reporting on it here in an attempt to canvas for ideas as to what might have gone wrong and what my options are to bring it back to its normal state, even if that includes re-installing Leopard.
Over the past few days, I have run every disk maintenance utility I have, and none report any problem with the volume in question. I have gone through the entire suite TechTool Pro tests and repairs. I have used DiskWarrior in the CD-ROM start-up mode to rebuild the directory so that zero items are out of order. I have used Drive Genius to defrag the volume. I have also used Disk Utility to rebuild permissions. No files are reported corrupt. Get Info reports no anomalies regarding disk ownership or permissions: the Leopard volume in question is set exactly like the other partititions, which do start-up OK. The volume always shows up an eligible start-up volume in System Preference's start-up disk control panel. Yet, the volume will NOT boot up, and I cannot figure out why.
At this juncture, the only options I can see to getting me past this frustrating stuck point are: (1) restore from the clone, which is starting up fine from the external Firewire drive; or (2) re-install Leopard from the Apple system disk.
Before I try either one of those options, though, I wonder if anyone has any theories on why this volume won't boot up and what else I could do to get it back to normal.

If there's nothing wrong with the drive or its directory, then there are corrupted system files preventing normal startup. You will have to reinstall OS X. Try:
