VZAM cannot detect device - I'm on my 5th device in 2 weeks! Help!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop that works perfectly despite being older (2003), Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I purchased a Verizon Wireless 4G LTE USB Modem, Pantech UML290. When I first installed it, along with VZAccess Manager, it worked great! But on April 12th, 2011 when I opened VZAccess Manager I got the pop up that new software for VZAM was available for installation. I downloaded it and installed it, but then immediately VZ Access Manager could no longer detect the Pantech device, even though my computer detected it and all the drivers were installed. When I click "Detect Device", I immediately get the error message that a device cannot be detected, device not available.
After several hours on the phone with Verizon tech support and about 15 install/uninstalls (making sure there is no extraneous Verizon software leftover floating anywhere on my hard drive), they sent me another device. Same issue. Sent me a 3rd device. Same issue. They sent me an LG V600. Same issue. And a new SIM card. Same issue. 3 Pantechs and 2 LG's and a SIM card.
I went to the Verizon store and each time the Pantech or LG units could not be detected on the Netbook in the store, so it is not just my computer having issues.
I'm wondering if the downloaded software corrupted something in my computer so that VZ Access Mgr can no longer detect 4G devices or the current version of the software is bad. We also installed/uninstalled the VZAM CD that came with my Pantech. No luck there either.
I've tried using System Restore, but there were no restore points available by the time I tried it. I've had my computer looked at by a friend who knows computers and there are no issues he could find.
I've called Verizon Tech Support and they have a support ticket out, but the response every time is to uninstall/install several times and then send me another device to try!
My computer recognizes the device on both of my USB ports. After I reinstall the software each time, I plug in the device and then the computer says I have new hardware. It also shows up in the Device Manager and there are no exclamation marks or question marks. It is shown as "enabled" in the properties field. There are no conflicts or incompatibility issues.
It has been 2 weeks and I need internet for my business. Please help!!!
Thank you in advance for any help!

Oh, these fair weather friends. I'm a little skeptical about the Bios corruption story. I use the same device as yours and have fooled around a lot with both software and hardware. I have a Dell Latitude D420 running XP (SP3). If you check my posts, you'll see some of the problems I have found - but I have not seen your issue. I have also installed my device on a brand new windows 7 pc with no issues like yours.
Now, onto the Registry - after uninstalling all software from Smith Micro - start the registry editor (regedit.exe) and search on a registry key like this HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Smith Micro\VZAM - Verizon Wireless
you can find this key (and subkeys) by "finding" a key name with "smith" in it. Delete this key and others like
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1395545137-932754572-1724954416-1000\Software\Smith Micro.
Then reinstall the drivers and the software. Note: in the add/remove programs, look for both drivers and the vzam application software. Hopefully, this will fix things. Also, make sure your SIM is properly installed in the device and the contacts are clean.

I was trying to update my I phone 4 with the latest Ois system when i tunes crashed. I had to restore my iPhone as it was irresponsive. To restart it when I tried to restore; itunes first showd me the the progress as : Extracting Software.. (completed) then VErify with apple store (complete) and then suddenly a pop up box appears with  a msg saying ' The i phone "i phone" could not be restored. The device cannot be found. As there is no number to this error msg i do not know how to resolve this. Please help as I have all my pictures/ videos of my six mnth old on this phone asn would hate to lose them !!

Your data is most likely gone, whether or not you get your phone working again.
Surely, with something as valuable as pictures and videos of your six month old, you've been importing them at frequent intervals onto your computer, just like you would from any other video camera or still camera.  Those pictures will still be safe on your computer once you get your phone sorted out.
And, given the priceless nature of those pictures, I'm sure you've been backing up all the data on your computer as well.

The iTune cannot detect my iPhone 4S. I have already tried all methods suggested, including re-installling iTune, re-activating Apple Mobile Device, plugging in various USB ports, and etc. I use windows 7. How can I solve this?

The new cable is completely new, and my computer can detect the phone as a drive, and battery charging is ok. So I believe the USB cable works properly. It is so weird that just iTune itself cannot detect the phone, and it is of the most updated version. What else can I do? Thanks.

Try resetting the PRAM. Hold down Option-Cmd--P-R together at the startup chime. Wait for two more chimes, total three, then let go to finish booting.
Try an SMC Reset. Shutdown, unplug from power, wait ten minutes, still unplugged, hold power button in for five seconds. Reconnect to power.

    dear friend
I recently purchased an ipad 2 wi-fi 3G. the device cannot detect any network, I do not know why. I tried to reset the network, but without any vail. could you please tell me what the setps so I can solve the problem. Another problem, I connected the ipad device with cable to my pc, but the pc is not recognizing the device. The pc only shows the pictures on the ipad.

lets start easy so the we can understand where you are in the process.  Have you set the ipad up using itunes?  if not, you need to do that first.  make sure your computer has the current i tunes version loaded, then plug the pad into the computer.  What kind of computer you using, mac or pc?
If you haven't set it up, then it does not know to look for any networks.

  • TS1538 Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
    1. The phone charges it's battery
    2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
    In iTunes
    3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
    4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ralph

    Hi ralphagir,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • My v3753au (32bit win7) bios cannot detect internal dvdrom & hard to detect internal hdd?

    hi...
my v3753au is wonderfully running on 32 bit win7.  lately the bios cannot detect the internal dvdrom & kinda hard to detect (longer than usual) the internal hdd during startup.  i've tried with the other dvdrom & it's still the same.  however, the one that i used is still ok on other laptop.  fyi, i've tried with the original f.15 version as well as the latest f.28 version but both let me down.  when win7 runs, dvdrom doesn't appear either in win explorer or device manager.  i've also checked the registry for that filter thing but it isn't there.  any suggestions of what should i try next?
    tq for the help...

    > I couldn't reinstall/recover new system from CD cos Win7 couldn't detect any drive while installing.
Its no matter if the SATA mode is set to AHCI or compatible mode. The HDD should be recognized by BIOS even if the AHCI mode has been selected.
At the first BIOS page the HDD should be listed with the name and size.
If it isnt the case, it could be possible that your HDD controller is faulty.
What HDD did you purchase exactly? Is it a 2.5 SATA HDD?

  • EPSON NX415:  Computer cannot detect scanner at all

I just upgraded to snow leopard and bought this new printer, an Epson NX415 All-in-One printer. The printing and copying works fine, but I cannot use the scanner at all. When I finished installing the scanner driver, I immediately got this pop-up message:
"Unable to create a work folder on the current disk, therefore the work folder will be returned to the default location."
I opened up photoshop and the scanner's name was listed under the import from devices tab. However, when I clicked it the same popup window appeared again. But for some reason, Preview and Image Capture cannot detect the scanner. I then opened up Print/Fax in system prefs and saw the Epson NX415 printer listed in the printer queue. However, there was no scanner tab. Its almost like the computer doesnt know that the scanner exists.
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and upgrading all the drivers per apple and epson's instructions but to no avail. After every reinstall of the scanner driver, i get the same pop-up message i quoted above.
HALP! The printer/copier functions work beautifully. I just cannot figure out why I cant even scan.

My problem has been solved by the solution on this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10105981#10105981
I went to Print/Fax, Selected my printer, Printer Setup, Driver, and selected "Epson NX400" from the dropdown list. For some reason, that one unlocked the scanner. When I went to add new printers in the printer queue, i saw the Scanner icon at last
