W-7 XP Mode and 32 bits LPT1 printers

This XP virtual mode is from a W-7 Ultimate 64bits and works well with a couple of 32bits devices, one of them a photo or slides scanner for digital conversion, and others 32bits programs.
My system is a Lenovo Laptop TP61p with a mini dock where I have access to a parallel port.
If I boot from a HDD with pure W-XP pro SP3 I am able to print to an Epson LQ-1050+ impact printer quite well. Same from Vista B SP2. This is also prove that the printers' cables are OK
But I would like to avoid swapping HDD and do the same through the Virtual XP-Pro Mode of Windows-7 SP1. The program installed the printer OK and I can hear it initializing when the system is turned on, but I can't even get a test print. LTP-1 is properly
configure.
Is there a hack or a policy that could solve the problem? How can I make this work?
Anticipating a deluge of suggestions.
Cheers

Dear frinds,
I found the files and opened with Notepad . Was that the correct program?
This was the final result:
<super_io>
<floppy id="0">
<pathname>
<absolute type="string" />
<relative type="string" />
</pathname>
</floppy>
<parallel_port>
<port_type type="integer">0</port_type>

<serial_port>
<connect_immediately type="boolean">false</connect_immediately>
</serial_port>
<serial_port id="0">
<port_type type="integer">0</port_type>

<port_type type="integer">0</port_type>

<port_name type="string">LPT1 (378Fh-37Fh)<port_name>
<port_type type="ïnteger">1</port_type>
</parallel_port>
</super_io>
I placed it as instructed, bellow the serial ports. It did not work. That configuration file has backup and as I enter XP mode, there was no evidence of the hack. Going back to the files, no hack. Odviously the program execution put it back the original
way. I has been locking with suspicious the fact that there is a Parallel entry above the serial ports. I replaced with the modified lines and also in the backup file. This time XP Mode failed to start. Those files are surely protected. To get back
in, I had to boot with another computer and use the OS to modify the files on the HDD. Then shit hit the fan, because when I tried to save, this laptop has a rather sensitive touchpad and the whole directory disappeared. Fortunatly, my backup method is by
cloning into another drive and I was able to recover the original directory and save the OS.
While having a beer to recover, and to my great surprise, I was attempting a "futile" adventure. Attempted to install this old 32 bit impact printer into W7-64, since I had this LPT1 connection in the mini dock. Incredibly it did! and
worked. But I still need it in the XP mode.
Stressful day, so I will wait a couple of days while following your advice.
Cheers

    Dinosaurs are not really extinct, because sometimes they are immortals.
    I have a large data base in a DOS base program (Smart Ware) which I have not being able to convert satisfactorily to Acces. Works well and it relates to my physician office from which I am now retire. but I must legally preserve this for 25 years. I still have Pentiums, 32bits programs and several perfectly functioning impact printers. My retired practice still uses an still valid and efficient testing program with 32bits devices and programs that will only work with W-98, yet all the data obtained can be worked by any 32bits W-OS, if you can imagine.The relevancy of the results is still in the high 90% and new systems available are just that, new but very expensive and not better for patients. Why should I spend more money?
    Hope you like my explanation.
    Back to the printer. I just had the great surprise that my W-7 64b Ultimate using a Mini Dock (which has LPT1) properly configure the port, actually installed the Epson LQ-1050+ printer. I could not believe it. Now, the particular testing program is installed in XP-Mode (for manipulation of the data). XP-Mode has the proper port LPT1 and configuration, and it pretend to install the printer, who gets inicialized but it does not print. I have been advice to add certain lines to the Virtual PC (vmc) file being an XML. But it did not worked. Here is the original:

  • Add mode and 32 bit Floating point

    Hi.
    I have an AE comp containing 10 layers rendered off to EXR from 3DS Max using VRay.  I have a "cold" scene and have composited several hot VRay ObjectSelect render elements and VRayAtmosphere render elements.  Every layer uses "Add" blend mode.  All are OK except one layer (an Atmosphere element containing smoke).  The smoke is very dark (virtually black) when rendered in Max.  It is layered in AE over a glowing hot area.  When I use "Add" blend mode the smoke looks very thin/transparent and very pale.
    Q.  What effects should I use to get the black smoke to appear black (as it would look in the Max render)?  I would like a degree of control over the transparency so that I can let part of the glow behind it still show through.
    Many thanks,
    T

    USING Thanks Mylenium.
    As "Add" seems to be the only blend mode that "works" in this instance i.e. by placing the information on top of the other layers, can I get the required control over the smoke by using other effects?  I have played around with levels/exposures/gamma etc. but not found anything that worked.  Is there something that will do this?
    Many thanks,
    T

  • 64 bit mode and some questions

    Happy New Year all,
    Just once I'd like to start up in 64 bit mode. I've tried to do it several times without success and I don't know what the problem is. Hardware, software?
    I'm running two 10.6.2 systems, one on 1 SSD 3 drive Raid 0 array, one on another. Both internal and I used SoftRaid to set both up.
    Each time I try, I get the gray screen with Apple logo and the spinning wheel. After a time I get the circle with a bar through it and have to use the power button to shut down. When I tried it last time on one array, the above happened and both arrays unmounted. I could only get my disks mounted by booting from a clone and both systems, the 32 and 64 bit, did not show in the Startup Disk Pref Pane. Both systems showed up when I pressed the Option key at start up but I couldn't start up from either.
    I should have remembered to press the 3 and 2 keys to get access to those drives again but a PRAM reset got my 32 bit system back again. From there with a little research I saw mention of the 3 and 2 keys again, tried it on the 64 bit system and got it to boot in 32 bit.
    Long story short though I don't know why I can't at least boot into 64 bit mode. Could it have something to do with the SSDs? Could it have something to do with SoftRaid? Why would both arrays dismount when only one should be affected?
    Is it a common issue for many 64 bit compatible Macs to not be able to start up in 64 bit mode for any one of a variety of reasons? I should say that neither of my systems can start up that way.
    Thanks, any insight is appreciated.

    Talk to Mark and look for any notes on SoftRAID and 64-bit mode;
    Try installing Mac OS only to one of your SSDs (break the array).
    Just a nice small clean Apple ONLY OS.
    "6" + "4" ought to get you into 64-bit kernal mode.
    Any PCIe card/driver you have to be concerned with?
    ==================
    SoftRAID 3.6.8 is compatible with Snow Leopard in 32 bit mode. You will be asked to replace the newer version of the SoftRAID driver that is bundled with Snow Leopard, with the 3.6.8 driver.
    +A newer, *64 bit version of the SoftRAID driver* is included with Snow Leopard for users in 64 bit mode,+ which will allow you to keep existing volumes and access data from the 64 bit version of Snow Leopard. Currently, only the X-Serve boots into 64 bit mode by default. *SoftRAID 3.6.8 will not work in 64 bit mode.*
    SoftRAID 4.0 is coming soon!
    SoftRAID version 4 will be a full 64 bit Snow Leopard compatible version. We don't have a firm shipping date, but will try to have a "customer beta" in a few weeks for those who want to beta test SoftRAID 4.0.
    The SoftRAID 4.0 official release will probably be in October. Upgrades will cost $69, except for 2009 purchasers, who will get it free.

  • Itunes is running in 64-bit mode and will not let me switch to 32- bit mode

    I guess 64-bit mode requires MAC OS X 10.7 and I only have 10.6.8 so somehow i need to switch back to 32-bit mode and the instructions it gives me to do so don't make any sense. help!

    At Mike Johnson12's suggestion I posted my problem separately at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15801854#15801854 .  The only response I have received there so far is from another person who has experienced the same problem you & I have.  That makes at least 3 of us. Please feel free to hijack my post there if you think it might help!

  • HT2404 I have a 2011 macbook pro 13".  I am trying download software for the clear network and it won't let me saying I'm running in a 64 bit mode and I need to change my computer to a 32 bit mode before downloading.  Is that possible and how do I do it?

    I am trying to download software for the clear internet network.  It is telling me that I am running in a 64 bit mode and
    need to be in a 32 bit mode to run their software....can I and how do I change it to a 32 bit mode?

    Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
    So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
    either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • I just updated FF to 14.0.1 (Mac 10.6.8) and now netflix won't work. It's asking to restart in 32 bit mode and I changed it in the Get Info to 32 bit. No luck.

    I just updated FF to 14.0.1 (Mac 10.6.8) and now netflix won't work. It's asking to restart in 32 bit mode and I changed it in the Get Info to 32 bit. No luck.

    Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight for Mac [http://microsoft-silverlight-mac.en.softonic.com/mac link text]. I just did this, and was able to play Netflix's streaming again--and without that "restart in 32-bit mode" button even appearing!

  • When I open the Firefox browser, there is a bar stating, "This page requires a plugin that can only run in 32-bit mode" and asks me if I want to restart the browser in 32-bit mode. What do you recommend I do? Thank you.

    I do not have any idea what plugin they are talking about.

    Previous versions of Firefox were only 32 bit, Firefox 4 for the Mac contains 32 and 64 bit versions. If you want to always start Firefox in 32 bit mode, open up Finder and go to the Applications folder. Control-click the Firefox app and click "Get Info", then select the "Open in 32-bit mode" option.

  • 32 bit and 64 bit kernel modes

    Just curious to know if users experienced the exact same problem in both these modes.

    1. Fresh install of OSX 10.6 running in both 32-bit and 64-bit kernel modes.
    How did you get your data back onto the fresh install? If you used Migration Assistant, you probably imported the problem (likely caused by some corrupt settings file somewhere) right back into your fresh install.
    OTOH, if it happens on a clean system, you may have some kind of hardware issue, though I can't imagine what kind of hardware issue would only affect QuickLook! Perhaps zap your PRAM? (Restart and hold command-option-P-R until you hear a second startup chime.)
    2. Deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist .
    Good thought. You may also want to try trashing:
    /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.quicklook.plist
    3. Repairing partitions from both Disk Utility and Install DVD.
    Do you mean repair permissions? If so, you shouldn't repair permissions while booted from the install disk. You should always do this using the copy of Disk Utility on your hard drive, while booted from your hard drive as you normally would be.
    OTOH, repairing the hard drive can only be done on the boot drive while booted from the install disk.
    4. Using the following applications to run all tasks: MainMenu & OnyX.
    What tasks? Regardless, this is probably unnecessary:
    [Five Mac Maintenance Myths|http://www.macworld.com/article/133684/2008/06/maintenance_intro.html]
    5. Uninstalling Perian and reinstalling.
    Is QuickLook only failing on videos, or is it failing for all types of files? Did you make sure you've got the latest version of Perian?

  • Creation of Add-on package for 64 bit and 32 bit SAP Business One Client

    Please help me creating package for 64 bit and 32 bit SAP Business One. If Add-on executable is compiled with x86 option then there is no issue of connecting Add-on with 32 bit SAP Business one and if Add-on executable is compiled with Any CPU option then there is no issue of connecting Add-on with 64 bit SAP Business one. Problems are mentioned as below
    1. My Add-on uses MS ACCESS connection and the connection is read using Jet OLEDB 4.0 provider. It works fine for x86 compile mode but not when compile mode is Any CPU. I searched for the issue on Google and found a solution to change MS ACCESS connection provider to ACE.OLEDB.12.0 but again ACE provider is installed according to the Office version i.e. 32 bit or 64 bit office suite. If I install 32 bit ACE provider then Add-on executable compiled with x86 version is working fine but with Any CPU option throws error as provider is not registered on current machine.
    2. Secodly, our license validation activex dll is build using vb 6.0 and therefore when Add-on executable is compiled using Any CPU option, Add-on EXE cannot read from license dll. Any suggestion, how the activeX dll can be compiled whose component can be created from for X86 compiled exe and any cpu compiled exe.
    Please help because we are stuck in this issue and cannot move forward.
    Thanks.

    Hi Alejandro,
    That is one solution but did your add on used ms access connection? if you used Jet oledb to connection string or ace oledb connection string? what if 32 bit office is installed and what if 64 office is installed? how did you found the office version in install script? after determining the office version how did you installed Microsoft redistributable for ace oledb (32 bit or 64 bi )?
    I am sorry that I asked many questions but these are the problems where I am stuck with the addon installer?
    Thanks

  • What is difference between 32 bit and 64 bit sql server memory management

    What is difference between 32 bit and 64 bit sql server memory management
    Thanks
    Shashikala

    This is the basic difference...check if helps:
    A 32-bit CPU running 32-bit software (also known as the x86 platform) is so named because it is based on an architecture that can manipulate values that are up to 32 bits in length. This means that a 32-bit memory pointer can store a value between 0 and
    4,294,967,295 to reference a memory address. This equates to a maximum addressable space of 4GB on 32-bit platforms
    On the other hand 64-bit limit of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616, this number is so large that in memory/storage terminology it equates to 16 exabytes. You don’t come across that term very often, so to help understand the scale, here is the value converted to
    more commonly used measurements: 16 exabytes = 16,777,216 petabytes (16 million PB)➤ 17,179,869,184 terabytes (17 billion TB)➤ 17,592,186,044,416 gigabytes (17 trillion GB)➤
    As you can see, it is significantly larger than the 4GB virtual address space usable in 32-bit systems; it’s so large in fact that any hardware capable of using it all is sadly restricted to the realm of science fiction. Because of this, processor manufacturers
    decided to only implement a 44-bit address bus, which provides a virtual address space on 64-bit systems of 16TB. This was regarded as being more than enough address space for the foreseeable future and logically it’s split into an 8TB range for user mode
    and 8TB for kernel mode. Each 64-bit process running on an x64 platform will be able to address up to 8TB of VAS.

  • HT6154 Need help!! Got a new phone, was able to download info from the old phone and set up iCloud but now i want to use the old phone as an 'iPod' just for music, when i get into iTunes it now says the old phone is in restoration mode and to restore iPho

    Do I restore the old phone? What should I do?

    it now says the old phone is in restoration mode and to restore iPhone.
    Hmmm...
    That's a doozy. I'll have to think on that for a bit.
    Quite perplexing indeed. A quandary you could say.
    Not really sure what you could try...
    Have you tried anything yet?

  • What are the general effects of using recovery mode, and is it possible for one's data to be backed up on to it afterwards?

    My iPad, in my opinion is a great device to have whenever I need to use it for work - mainly using it for creating music.  However I feel that it's a bit outdated, and I plan to get a new iPad Air for this holiday season and give this one to my children.  That being said, I have stumbled across a weird problem that keeps me from backing my iPad (generation 2) up to my computer.  The error in question states that "The iPad is currently owned by another computer."  By looking around on the internet, I was able to deduce that one of the ways to solve this problem was to put it in recovery mode to get rid of the 'ownership', and this seems logistical.  The problem I'm facing now, is that, after trying to find the answer, I do not know how recovery mode has an impact on all the data stored on my iPad.  To clarify the question into three parts:
    1)  Is there a way to back up files from my iPad and easily retrieve them without the use of iTunes?
    2)  If not, is there a way to get rid of the 'ownership' of another computer other than recovery mode WITHOUT jailbreaking it?
    3)  If still no, then what are the effects of putting my iPad into recovery mode, and will all of my songs and data be safe?
    Thank you for answering, if possible.

    Was the iPad originally set up on a different computer, and hasn't been synced to the one that you are now trying to use ? There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
    (Before trying that you could copy any important files/documents off the iPad so that you have you own backup copy of them e.g. depending upon what the apps support then email them to yourself, use Dropbox, copy them to your computer via your wifi-network.)
    You should be able to copy iTunes purchases off the iPad and over to that computer's iTunes via File > Devices  Transfer Purchases, but if you have music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) which aren't in that computer's iTunes (and you haven't got a backup to copy them onto it from) then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
    For recovery mode, that will result in your iPad being put back to factory defaults i.e. all of your content will be removed from it

  • When i put my iphone on charge or try to turn it on it says connect to itunes when i do that it says that my phone is in recovery mode and needs to be restored!

    Someone please help me, i really dont want to restore my iphone as i have really important things on it, the phone has not been backed up in a long while..
    i dont know how this happend but i was trying to update tmy iphone like 2 days ago but the update didnt end up completing due to the battery percentage being below 50, anyways i ignored the update and thought id do it later, yesterday i got notifications saying that the phone will continue the update and restart in a few minutes or something along those lines i had the option to click restart later or something like that so i clicked on that, later on my phone died and i put it on charge, as it was turning on the apple logo came up with the dowload bar underneath it, you know when you update or restore your phone and it loads, it was like that, it was taking forever, like it took so long that i removed my phone from the charger and it just froze for a bit then turned off, when i tried turning it on again it told me to connect to itunes so i did and now its telling me that my phone is recovery mode and it needs to be restored!! Is there any way i could fix this problem without restoring my phone?
    Thank you

    Hey saandyy,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    You can try to restart the iPhone to exit recovery mode.
    Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

    I'm sorry to learn that you are not able to make/receive calls chelseabee! (ticket number removed) results indicate that there is no issues with the network or account provisioning. Since you have already done a hard reset http://vz.to/1gBkSJc (as per your post), I recommend exploring replacement options. If your phone is within the one year manufacturers' warranty we can provide a Certified Like New replacement http://vz.to/uyYF0o as long as no physical/liquid damage exist. If your phone has sustained physical/water damage and you have insurance, you can submit a claim to the insurance company online at this link http://bit.ly/07CrqPK
