W-LED or RGB-LED backlight?

Hi everyone,
does anybody (some insiders, ideally, but not necessarily) know, which kind of backlight scheme is used in the TP laptops? I'm mostly interested in the IPS panels. The PSREF does not specify it (W.E., U.S.).
Thanks in advance!

White-LED or RedGreenBlue-LED? Really nobody knows?

  • Question re: 1920x1200 RGB LED Display and the Macbook Pros LED display.

My question to the Apple guys here is. What type of LED technology is used in the MacBook Pro's LED display?
I just did a side by side with my buddies new 15" MBP and my new DELL Studio 1737 which has a 1920x1200 which has RGB LED display. I had it second day air FEdEx shipped because I was dying to see this new tech.
And did it blow us away, supposedly since its this new RGB LED it displays something around 98% or 110% of the NTSC color gamut very accurate for graphics and photo work.
My buddy almost dropped when we saw the color accuracy and differences with the MBP. And why hasn't Apple adopted this superior technology?

What do you mean they don't have LED its right on the main page.
Read it carefully, it says "Ultrathin 15-inch LED-backlit display." The "LED-backlit display" part means that the backlighting is LED (as opposed to fluorescent), not the display panel itself (which is LCD).
...Dell has the RGB LED backlighting....
The Dell display you referred to is an RGB LED display, it doesn't have (or need) backlighting. It uses red, green and blue light emitting diodes to produce images, as opposed to a liquid crystal display, which uses color filtered backlighting to produce images.
its confusing why Apple has not adopted this new tech to its high end $3,000 MBP 17 models.
Yet. The 17" MBPs are reportedly due for a significant hardware revision next month. In any case, RGB LED displays have their own performance issues when compared to LCD displays, so don't get too excited, and they may not be thin enough to fit Apple's ultrathin design philosophy.
I have no idea what RGB LED was it just seemed better, and boy did it pay off.
I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with Windows Vista.

  • What's the maximum voltage for each LED on the LED panelette (SC-2345)?

I need to know whether or not, I can hook up the LED's of the LED panelette on a 15VDC circuit or not.

    Hello;
Those LEDs are used with 5VDC. The best way to go about that is to use a external Voltage divisor to create the 5VDC to be connected to the LEDs.

  • D400 - system status LED blinking, network LED blinking

Hi - Just recently started experiencing this problem with my D400.
The system status LED is blinking, which according to the user guide means that WHS is either booting or shutting down.  The Network LED shows activity.
Problem is that I can't get on the D400 via remote desktop.
Frustrating.  Talked with support already, said only option is to send in to depot or find a local resource to troubleshoot or fix.  Problem is that we have our music/photos on this thing.
Support also said that if we factory reset data on all drives will be erased.
Looking for help wherever I can get it.  Thanks!
    Scott

Hi scottdcm, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
To get your music/photos off the system before returning it for service, connect the hard drive(s) to another computer with a SATA connection. An external USB/SATA connector or drive enclosure will also do the job.
You can also remove any drives you have added before shipping it for service.
    Hope this helps!

  • Calibrating MacBook Pro w/ i1 Pro. Which LED display technology is it?

Hi all, I'm trying to calibrate for photography my MacBook Pro 6,2 with a high-res matt screen using the i1 Display Pro calibrator.
The i1 software is asking me whether the technology used is CCFL (Cold-Cathode Fluorescent), Wide-Gamut CCFL, White LED or RGB LED.
From other threads, I'm pretty sure it's LED backlighting technology as the screen lights up immediately at start-up, unlike CCFL which apparently starts dimmer before brightening. So I've calibrated it twice entering once 'RGB LED' and once 'White LED' to see the difference. The 'RGB LED' calibration makes the greys look slightly cyan, and the 'White LED' makes the greys look pretty neutral, if not slightly red, but I'm still unsure which technology is used.
It would be very helpful is someone knew the answer and could help me out. Many thanks!!

Open a terminal window and enter the following:

Please help! I can't find this information.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The display is a WLED backlit type, not RGB LED.
The color gamut is in the neighborhood of 68%.
Even an iMac with a Retina display does not provide a wide color gamut.

  • Mac mini (mid 2011) to Samsung led tv via hdmi connection problem.

    Samsung led tv - UE32D5000
    Mac mini (mid 2011)
On regular monitor (connected by hdmi to dvi cable) setup teamviewer
    Try to:
    1. Connect different hdmi cables - dose not work (on apple tv - both cables work)
    2. Connect hdmi cable to different hdmi ports.
    3. On tv change type of source - PC, PC-DVI and other.
By teamviewer I watched what was going on the computer - Mac mini does not recognize tv like monitor by pressing 'seek monitor'.

Aha! Similar problem here; Mini (Intel, Macmini2,1, the 2007 version with the larger HDI port not the smaller one)
Problem seems to happen only with both HDMI and USB connected (USB only to use the built-in webcam on the monitor, an AOC V22+ (which I love, it's a very nice monitor; LED instead of fluorescent backlight).
Sometimes it would suddenly switch to where the dock and menu bars and status bar were hidden (the desktop gets 'too big for the screen).
Then I'd go to the Display settings and unselect "overscan"
Then it'd be OK for a while, then switch to a big black space around the desktop window, lots of unused screen).
Then I'd go to the Display settings and reselect "overscan" and it'd be Ok.
    For a while.
There really ought not be a need to fiddle with 'overscan' at all -- since I'm not using this as a television. Mac OS 10.3.6 seems to mistakenly think the monitor is being used as a TV -- maybe when there's a video in a browser window?
    Not sure.
Anyhow it becomes a rock-paper-scissors problem where I have to keep chasing the settings to undo whatever it changes to at random, Lather rinse repeat.
Seems like it's only a problem for me when I have the USB cable also connected, to use the built-in webcam -- so I don't use that now.
The AOC folks have been working hard on solving this.
I just found this topic and have referred them here.
They'll be glad to know it's not their problem, I guess.
(does it happen on Apple brand displays too? I'm not sure)

  • Calibrating LED Display

    Hi,
I've searched for but not found an answer to the following questions:
    1. I want to use an Eye-One calibrator on my new MBP 15 with its LED display. As I understand it, the display is actually an LCD display with LED, rather than flourescent, backlighting.
Question: Is there any reason the Eye-One won't work?
    2. At work, I hook up a Samsung monitor. I want to calibrate it, too. As I understand it, because the MBP has but one video card, I will be able to profile the Samsung, but I will have to use that profile on both my screens (the MBP) while running two monitors. Is that correct? If so, no problem -- I'll put my images on the Samsung and the tools on the MBP.
Thanks, in advance, for the advice.

I have calibrated my new macbook pro with the led lcd with a older model gretag eye one. I used version 3.6 software downloaded from gretag macbeth's website. The calibration worked out great. I used native color temperature and gamma 2.2. I have an image from fuji called fujical, the screen matches fujical's print perfectly, as well as other control prints I use. Good luck
