W2012 R2 Server not reporting update deployment status
Hello,
I have a strange issue with some of my Windows 2012 R2 Servers. I am using Automatic Deployment Rules for deploying Windows Updates to my client.
On my deployment, I have ~30 W2012R2 clients. I don't know why, but 50% of my clients are not reporting correctly to SCCM. When I go to the "Monitoring" -> "Deployments" and I analyze the report, my 50% faulty client are under the
"Unknow" tabs.
I have already check, and it's not a FW issue. I have other ADR and clients are reporting correctly.
This issue only appears with 2012 R2 client.
Have you got already see this behaviour ?

I have checked the log, and I didn't see anything strange.
In the C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log, I have see this :
The first line is "OpenReportingWebServiceConnection, reporting URL = http://MYSCCMSERVER:8530/ReportingWebService/ReportingWebService.asmx"
Why I can see in the log FQDN of microsoft ? Is this normal ?

WSUS server not reporting itself
I am sure this has been asked, but I cant find the specifics for my situations.
I am running at Vm for server 2012R2 and installed the wsus role.
I have successfully moved all my servers and desktops from the old wsus server to this one. the version number is 6.3.9600.16384.
using group policy, my clients point to http://wsus:8530
the wsus server itself is not reporting in. I can not recall if it ever reported in to be honest. what can you suggest that I look at?

when you say check for * WSUS server, what does that mean. do you want me to check in the WindowsUpdate.log?
I have warnings in the log and I have a fatal: OnCallFailure failed with hr=0x8024401B

Need help to check the software update deployment status before restart the VM
Hello,
I'm just trying to automate the windows patch deployment for several VM's, I build the entire logic like below,
Deploy software update --> wait for sometime-->Restart --> Check deployment status(collection = iscomplaint) -->stop
I know here I'm missing the logic of not checking the patch deployment status before restarting, Can someone help here plz?

Windows 2008 R2 Server not showing update history and not detecting new updates
Hi Sirs,
We have a Windows 2008 R2 server which is showing an empty windows update history, and is not detecting new updates from the WSUS server. It says that the windows is up to date, no error when trying to detect new updates, but I doubt it because when I checked
the installed updates menu, it shows that that the most recent update date installed was last 2013, it just stop detecting and installing updates. I've already tried the ff workarounds but to no avail:
1. restart wuauserv and bits service
2. rename/delete the software distribution folder
3. reinstalled the update agent/restarted the server
4. deleted the susclientid on the registry

Windows 8.1 clients are not detecting updates deployed to them through SCCM 2012 R2
Hello,
We are using SCCM 2012 R2 to deploy software updates.
On Windows 8.1 SCCM does not show certain updates as being needed and isn't deploying them to the clients even though Windows Update will show them as high importance. These same updates are being detected and deployed to Windows 8 clients successfully.
I believe that the update catalog that WSUS uses may have some incorrect detection rules for the following updates:

My automatic deployment rules include Windows 8.1 in the product category. I have even created a standalone rule for Windows 8.1 that builds a new package and the behavior is the same.
We only have a handful of Windows 8+ clients so this hasn't been a big issue but others may want to keep an eye out.I am also running into this issue. After "checking online for updates" on one of my machines in office I found that there were 21 important updates for my 8.1 box. When I cross reference them in SCCM under All Software Updates, it appears these
8.1 updates are not listed. They are however listed for all other OS.
10 seconds after typing this, I went in to verify my WSUS -> Products and Classifications settings and come to find 8.1 and 2012 R2 weren't selected, even though it's an option in SCCM. Go figure! This wasn't the end though. After
running a Synchronization, my issue still wasn't resolved. Went back to check my settings and they again were changed back to having these OS unchecked. Finally, a solution! I found that in SCCM, under Administration tab, Site Configuration
> Sites > ABC - Mysitename, right click and scroll down to "Configure Site Components" > Software Update Point. This setting (although the same as is in WSUS) takes precedence, thus was rolling my settings back to the original configuration
in WSUS.
So long story short, even though my automatic deployment rules stated approve all windows 7/8/8.1 criticals/importants, 8.1 was getting skipped for the most part because my WSUS server wasn't syncing with Microsoft for all of the updates I required. I
did have a couple of updates that squeezed through because they were categorized as "Security Updates for Windows 8, 8.1".
Not sure if this is the solution you were looking for, but your thread got me started in the right direction, hopefully this response helps in the same way!

My seq is working fine on my development computer, both via the development editor and the simple/full-featured userintyerface.
I have setup reporting in ATML, Access DB and offline report format.
Reports are located on a server inhouse.
When i deploy my system, and install in on my production machine, and run it via the Simple or Full-featured UI, it says "no result from main seq", and none of the 3 reports are being updated !
I store files via my teststequence, on the same server, during the test, and those files are updated. I.E. the test-station see the server and folder ok

WSUS Downstream server not downloading updates
I have a windows 2012R2 wsus server setup running wsus and getting updates fine from Microsoft Updates. We will call this server A in this example.
I have a downstream server that is windows 2012r2 and has wsus installed. We can call this server B. It is configured to use "Update Source" and point to A to get its updates. SSL is not being used.
Server B says it syncs fine with no errors. However, when i look in the content folder I see the folders (0A, 2A, 2F etc..) but they do not contain any files. When i run wsusutil checkhealth the following error comes up in event viewer.
The WSUS content directory is not accessible. System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.HealthMonitoring.HmtWebServices.CheckContentDirWebAccess(EventLoggingType

Looks like the content store, specifically the /Content v-dir in IIS, is not configured correctly.
If so, it's also possible that the upstream server is not downloading content correctly from Microsoft. And if the downstream server cannot get to /Content, neither can any of the clients of the upstream server.
Start by inspecting the ApplicationEventLog on the upstream server for any evidence of download failures. If they don't exist, then this could simply be an issue with IIS. Verify that the /Content v-dir is configured to point to the correct location of the
~\WSUSContent folder.

Software Update Server not supplying updates
Greetings All,
I started a SUS on a running server. After configuring it I left it to download all the updates. The updates appear in the list displaying that they are copied and enabled. When I then "pointed" one of the local clients towards it and ran Software Update on the client machine it returned the message that there were no new updates relevant to the machine to be found on the server. Then I tried entering the path to the index file into Safari and it came up making me believe that there were no issues with the connection between the two machines. Since the server must be the problem I then tried this command on the server:
+grep swupd /etc/swupd/com.apple.server.swupdate.plist > ~/Desktop/update.txt+
When inspecting the update.txt file I noticed that it was completely empty. After consulting the manual yet again I looked into the /usr/shar/swupd/ directory and found that there were a vast quantity of data in the /html/content/downloads/ directory. After reading a few posts I decided to delete all this data and allow the server to download them again. Now the directory contains 15GB but the issue remains. A grep of com.apple.server.swupdate.plist still comes up empty.
The only errors that I see in the log are these:

Thank you for your time and effort on this forum!I have been running Software Update Server since a few days after the Mac Mini Server came out. It really helps the other macs in my household get their updates fast - when it works.
After "a while", the clients stop seeing updates - all at the same time. So, it's not a client problem. The thing that no one else has pointed out is that the "Your software is up to date." message on the client is abnormal.
In a normal up-to-date client, the "*Your software is up to date.*" modal dialog rolls down from an empty list of updates.
In this failure case, the modal dialog rolls down from the "*Software updates are available for your computer. Do you want to install them?*" window. This suggests (to me) that the Software Update client saw some indication that an update was available, but later decides not.

The active sync runs and business role 'A' is removed. IT roles '1' and '2' are explicily set to the user for deprovisioning scenario purposes (waveset.roles set to [1,2] via the active sync works: correctly
Active sync is run again and role 'A' is readded and roles '1', and '2' are removed.(Active sync sets waveset.roles to [1,]

Result: User shows up with roles A, 1, and 2 (which is correct), but the assignedBy attribute on roles 1 and 2 =null and directlyAssigned=true.
what should happen is that roles A, 1, and 2 are assigned (which is correct), but the assignedBy attribute on roles 1 and 2 =[A] and directlyAssigned=fasle.
anyone else have this issue? Anyone know how to fix this? We are even refreshing the view after we set waveset.roles and nothing happens. Do I need to refresh the rolesInfo or something?
Thanks!!Hi..You guys are life savers.. if the role was changed in waveset.role, the resources were not getting created but the role was getting changed. Changing waveset.roleInfo solved my problem. Now both the resources and the user is getting updated.

Because of this the followup document is not created.
For temparary pupose to overcome this issue we are doing like this. There are two mandatory fields are there in that any one delete and reenter the same value then automatically the system status get updated in to release status.

SCCM 2012 - Deployment Status Very Slow
I hope someone can point me in the right direction. I recently upgraded to 2012 SP1, as well as moved my database to a new server running WS2012 and SQL 2012 SP1. Everything seems to work very well, except for when viewing the status of my deployments.
For example, I pushed out a handful of security updates to a collection of 2008 R2 Servers (about 3 servers). After a minute, the servers showed correctly that updates were available. I proceeded to install, reboot, etc.
Now, in CM, under deployments, I have been keeping an eye on the Deployment Status. After about 6 hours, the little bubble was all grey, in that it hadn't yet figured out what was going on. 24 hours later, and finally it saw that three machines
were "in progress"....even though they should be "compliant". I have noticed this extremely slow behavior on several other small deployments I am doing.
I have combed through numerous logs, both client and server side, and I don't "see" anything that would suggest an issue with state messages, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can look, or what I can do? Before I upgraded,
although obviously not instant, the deployment status' seemed to update fairly quickly (couple of hours, not days).

Software Updates Deployment Evaluation.

I would like to get some clarification around the Software Updates Deployment Eval. cycle. (SCCM R2 CU3)
Example scenario:
I have a Software Update Group that contains 200 updates. This SUG includes updates that are prerequisites for other updates in the same SUG. So, when scanning occurs. Only one of these updates are at that particular time considered applicable.
The software update deployment deadline is reached. The update is installed, as expected. The then agent reports compliance against the update deployment.
Then comes the Software Update Scan schedule, when a new scan is made against the SUP more updates are now detected as required because of the previously installed update - from the same SUG which are deployed.
This leaves me in a situation where the agent is compliant against the Software Update deployment and non-compliant in regards to the actual Software Update Group.
I can of course just hit the schedule for Software Update Deployment Evaluation manually on the agent or simply do something (adding an update or whatever) that modifies the actual software updates deployment policy. This would in turn cause a new evaluation
to occur at the client.
Bottom line. Is my conclusion correct or have i missed something here?
If i'm correct, a good thing would be to add scheduling options available for the actual "software update deployment evaluation".
That would really come in handy in situations like above scenario.

ChrisThe next scheduled scan cycle will pick up the newly applicable but non-compliant updates in the deployment.
However, note that update compliance at the client level is done against the entire update catalog as this is actually done by the Windows Update Agent (WUA) which knows nothing about ConfigMgr. Thus, the fact that an update is in a deployment or not is
completely irrelevant as far as compliance and compliance reporting goes (which is part of the reason why compliance reporting in ConfigMgr is tricky).
Updating the policy of an update deployment will kick off a scan cycle (just like creating a new deployment will) on the clients which is why you are probably seeing this behavior as addressing the scenario.

What you are describing exactly matches the point I’m trying to make here. There is no correlation what so ever between update scans and actual software update deployments. The logic just isn't there. Which is a logic that is lacking
– in my opinion.
I really do think there is room for improvement here.
Case:
A customer wants to minimize the spread of reboots (a maint. window overnight should be sufficient for the agent to get the server fully up to date). The admin – who also wants to minimize effort in regards to worrying about MS bundling\prereq
requirements – simply wants it all to be taken care of by the updates deployment agent.
Example:
Software update deployment contains required updates as well as updates that will not be detected as required - until the deployment has been run – and a new update scan cycle has taken place.
The server reboots and updates deployment agent says all is fine – with regards to the deployment in it's current state, of course.
But it's not.
The server then issues a new scan (maybe 4 hours later and way behind the end of the maint. window) according to the software updates scan schedule, and suddenly 10 more updates are applicable, but still within the same deployment.
What happens? Nothing, sadly. Next maint. window? Nothing.
Not even a (client agent set – and scheduled) software update deployment re-eval takes care of this since – according to my findings – the deployment will never really be evaluated against again without administrative intervention.
Suggestion:
Whenever a software update deployment has been run, succeeded and passed the "after reboot" detectjob. Initiate a new evaluation of this deployment in full – of course including a pre-eval software updates scan. Just add
a few steps to the logic of updates deployment.
Evaluate.
Apply.
Initiate a new scan.
Re-Evaluate.
Apply again (if needed)
Reboot
Initiate a new scan.
Re-evaluate
Isn’t this the way WAUA has always worked? Why shouldn’t this method be adopted here as well? Why should ConfigMgr not honour the procedure?
Result:
Administrative relieve. Since I know that a software update deployment will always do the job, in full. No need for manual triggers or policy modifications.
Caveats:
I do realize the fact that – if this would be the scenario - the admin sometimes will not be aware of what might happen during the nightly maint. window since he cannot solely rely on compliance data.
Anyways:
This should at least be a deployment option in future releases.
"Force rescan and deployment re-evaluation after first run." Simple.
Would make life easier and keep the spread of reboots concentrated to one night and to a minimum. (Given the appropriate length of maint. windows of course)
Consider things like KB2919355 and how WUAU agent handles that against Windows Update.

Windows 7 clients not Reporting Status to WSUS (downstream server) server running Windows 2012 R2
We have recently upgraded our WSUS server to Windows 2012 R2. Now none of the PCs reporting their status to the WSUS server and not getting updates at all. The PCs are contacting the Server but not reporting their status. Stopped the Firewall on Client and
Server. BITS and windows updates services are running.
Record the system time of the Windows 7 client.
Reboot the Windows 7 client.
Run this command from a command prompt: wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow.
Wait =30= minutes.
Performed the above steps. Please see the updates logs from a client.

But I do have the same issue on the other PCs as well on which WMI is good. And also i pointed the above PC to my primary WSUS server which is running windows 2003 and it reported successfully and downloaded the approved updates.

WSUS - "this computer has not reported status yet" Windows server 2003
I just did a successful installation of wsus 3.0 Sp2
I am able to see all the machines but the issue starts there
Each of the machine show this error " this computer has not reported status yet"
i have tried but hasnt manage to resolve this issue

Update Groups Not Providing Deployment Status
Software Updates Groups for Windows 7 were created on a monthly basis from November 2013 to June 2014. Each of these deployments are having issues reporting any data in the "Deployments" Section of SCCM.
Patch groups created prior to November 2013, and Past June 2014 appear to be fine, and are distributing content and installing updates with ANY issue.
Upon recreating the "broken" patch groups - nothing appears to change. I've went as far as to deleting the content, and renaming everything, recreating all the groups, and still no luck.
Any suggestions regarding why these groups may fail to provide any deployment status?Hi,
Have these updates been installed on clients? What's the status in the Deployments section? Please check the deployment status from software update reports.
