W2k8 is 32-bit,which oracle 10g version should be installed?

Hi everyone,
I am a new DBA. Now I will install Oracle 10g on w2k8. I found w2k8 is 32-bit system, i am wandering which oracle 10g version I should install?

Go to http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
Note that Windows 2008 explicitly is listed against 11.1.0.7
Therefore, you can assume that 11.1.0.7 is the first that definitely supports W2008.
And you can assume that anything older than that line is definitely not supported.
And if it is not supported (as is the case for 10g), you can assume that you will run into some kind of problem either during installation or (worse) at some unknown time later.
You can probably find some workaround to make it appear to work. Which is fine ... it's your job. (At least until it stops working.)

I'm confusing which version of companion cd should i install for my oracle database. I've install OAS 10.1.2 which it also included oracle database 10g (10.1.0.4.2). Now, i want to install NCOMP component from companion cd for my database, so what version of companion cd should i download.

Intel Xeon Windows 64 Bit : Which Oracle software Version?

Hi!
we have Windows Enterprise Server SP2 64 bit with Intel Xeon processor and would like to install the SOLMAN with Oracle.
According to the original Oracle-DVD from SAP there are only three possible choise entries:
a) AMD64
b) IA64
c) I386
But I have the feeeling it should be one choice like "x86" is not?
Which one should we apply?
The I386 can be installed indeed, but we are getting the error during the SAPINST-Installation "Oracle software not installed". I thought this entry was only for 32 bit?
The IA63 Bit can not be installed.
Only the AMD64 we could install. But the question is, whether AMD is the same to Intel Xeon?

Hi,
You have still a "32-bit" platform ONLY.
1. Intel 64 is not AMD64, they are different. AMD64 implementation is only meant for AMD processors although the family is 64T support, full implementation is NOT done.
2. Your assumption of x86 is correct. You MUST go for I386 option ONLY !!!
3. Error of "Oracle software not installed" is different and you should not relate it to hardware. It is only for the environment variables and registry.. This will happen even in normal case..
Once again, you should NOT use AMD64 and IA64.. Try only with I386 option..
BTW, firstly, whats the reason for you to choose a 64-bit o/s that are meant for 64 - bit Itanium systems... CHoose a operating system that fits and will work with SAP optimally!
You should only choose a 32 Bit Enterprise edition of operating system. Windows Server 2003 R2 well works in your case and should be your choice !!
Finally your combination should be -
1. Windows 32 Bit Enterprise Edition R2 ---> O/s
2. i386 DVD -
> SAP/ Oracle DB

Migration from Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 Server

I am working on migrating Oracle 9i 32 bit to Oracle 10G 64 bit on Windows 2003 from Old server to new server. We have db around 500 GB and 3 schemas. I installed Oracle 10G on new server, created tablespaces, schema's blah blah and now doing export and import at schema level from old server to new server.
Import is taking more than 4 to 5 hours on new server. My manager is saying, window time is bit longer and he wants me to try possiblities to make this process faster. Can some one help me on this, to use the best possible method to complete this process faster?
Will below step work, if I try?
If I install, oracle 9i and 10g both on new server in different home directories and take the hot backup from old machine and restore on new machine in 9i home directory and use the upgrade configuration assistant from 10g and do the upgrade? Pls advice.

I have one question in below steps:
To migrate an Oracle9i or older database to an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) database for 64-bit Windows:
1 Perform steps 1 - 11 in "Migrating an Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1) Database".
2 Shut down the database on the 64-bit computer:
SQL> SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE;
3 Start the database migration:
SQL> STARTUP MIGRATE;
4 Migrate the database as described in Chapter 3, "Upgrading a Database to the New Oracle Database 10g Release" in Oracle Database Upgrade Guide.
In step 4, it says, migrate database as described in chapter 3. In chapter 3, it says, to do the upgrade the process using dbca or manually. Pls confirm whether do the upgrade process after issuing startup migrate or not.

Qlogic what firmware version should be installed

I'm having trouble with a couple of new qlogic 5600 switches (the switch wants to assign my clients as target and not initiators). which firmware version should be installed on the switches? i'm having quite a lot of trouble with this upgrade and any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

thanks for your reply Donald. I did manage to get the FC switch and hba cards working properly. I was aware of the device scan and streamgard settings on the switch, but the feedback i was getting from the switch was worrisome (some targets were listed as initiators on the switch and vicaversa). What solved the problem for me was to load the latest qlogic firmware 7.0.1...(i think), and it started giving the correct devices on each port. The new firmware also allowed me to log on to the switch through a web browser on my mac and not the antiquated "San Surfer" java app that came with the switches. I also had to set my hba to point-to-point and not automatic. I also set my arrays to point to point as well. I have 2 xserve RAIDs and a new promise array all set for "point-to-point". The old emulex switch we were using before was much nicer to work with than the qLogic switches that I just installed, and I found myself longing for the simplicity of the setup on the emulex.
Everything is working great now...I'm getting very fast throughput (250mb/sec).
The only remaining grief is that everytime I quit the admin app and relaunch it, it won't reconnect with my mdc's and i have to delete the xsan admin preference in my admin/library/preferences/ folder to reattach the admin app and administer my san. any ideas?

Read the installation guide - Enterprise version only.

Both work but I would go for SQL 2005 (or even SQL 2008).

You should use 64bit wherever possible on new installations.

Sure, there's version and edition details, but for a first-level exam there should not be a problem if you know the basics well (i.e. Concepts guide).
Other than having the documentation always nearby, I suggest you use the Exam Topics for 1Z0-042 as a checklist. You can find it from the certification program page.

Encountering errors when installing OO40 for oracle 10g version 10.1.0.5.2

Hello:
I am installing an oracle application (argus) on a machine running Windows 2008 Server and Oracle 11g Database..
The Argus installation manual says that Oracle Objects should be installed.
I found the version listed in the Sibject line but when I tried to run the installer, it comes up with an error dialog box that says "Abnormal program termination. An internal error has occured. Please provide the following files to Oracle Support" and then says "Unlknown" three times.
Did anybody encounter this scenario? How did you resolve it?

While I am still waiting for someone to help to solve the issue, I did some research. I used the Oracel Universal Installer and checked into the Products.XML associated with the installation for Oracle Objects I downloaded from Oracle site. The Installer came up with the following error message:
Some components in the Stage Area have stage versions less than 10.2.0.0.0. Please ensure that all the components have their stage versions greater than or equal to 10.2.0.0
I opened Products.XML and all components are 10.1.x.
Any idea where I can get compatible versions?

Could not see oracle database homepage in oracle 10g version

i am trying to open database home page option of oracle 10g software, but could not do it.
i have started the services ORACLEXETNS listener,oracle service XE, and could not see the database home page.
i am new to oracle 10g,
i am getting the error 'page cannot be displayed' .
could some one help me regarding this.

Are you taking about enterprise manager .Type a correct address in address bar to run web base enterprise manager.you can check whether enterprise manager is running or not by using command >emctl status dbconsole .Or you have some other issue.please write if there is any error.

Oracle 10g(10.2.0) installed successfully but is not working in Windows 7

I have installed successfully oracle 10g client in windows 7. After making modification in refhost.xml file as :--

<OPERATING_SYSTEM>
<VERSION VALUE="6.1"/>
</OPERATING_SYSTEM>
under </CERTIFIED_SYSTEMS>
It worked for few days but now again i m not able to access the Client again. I checked out the file refhost.xml
and noticed that the changes which i had made is present there.
Please help me on this as due to this i am stuck in the middle of my work.
Any suggestions regarding is higly appreciable !!
