.W3D format and Hoses exported from Max

Hi all,
I have a scene in 3d max 2009 and one of the models in the scene is connected via a flexible hose. The hose in animated within the scene but when exported to W3D into Director (v11) the hose animation is simplified to be a straight inflexible rod. My question is, does W3D support flexible hoses?

it only supports keyframe or bone animation. you would have to set keys or give it a bones to get the animation to play in director

Got it. I tried booting with MOD_AUTOLOAD set to yes, and it was working fine. Looks like I needed to specify some more modules in my list.

Format changing when exporting from InDesign to PDF

I am using Acrobat 8 version 8.1.2, and InDesign version 5.0.2.
I am noticing a very specific problem when exporting some files to PDF from InDesign.
We often have a format where we have a numbered list of right-aligned number, followed by some text, a leader line, and then another number at the end of the line. This is set up with a left indent and a first line left indent (rather than using the numbered list options), and then the necessary tabs later in the lines.
I am finding since we switched to IDCS3, that when I export to PDF, lines containing this format change in the PDF. The text that appears after the number in the front of the line is pushed over on top of the leader line, leaving a huge white space. On rarer occasions, it will move things in lines that have no indents, but contain tabs that aren't being used.
I have been able to get the files to export correctly by removing the left indent and first-line left indent and using tabs instead (or by removing unused tabs). But we have hundreds of files set up in this manner so going in and changing how they are all set up is problematic to say the least.
Is this a known issue? Does anyone know why this might happen and how I can prevent it?

I haven't tried printing to PDF. I will try that and see what happens. Unfortunetly, where I work we are required to export to PDF rather than print to PDF, so if it works it will only be a clue for me rather than a solution.

Date format in spreadsheet exported from IW28/IW37/IW38

When I export search results from IW28, IW37 or IW38 to a spreadsheet and a date column is the first column, it gets exported as text in YYYYMMDD format. If I move the date column to the right, it gets exported in the proper date format.
Presumably this is an issue in other search transactions as well.

Hello David,
You have two options to fix this.
1. If you are using the list option to export, then you need to keep the no of key coulmns as blank to fetch the same format in the first column from SAP.
2. If you find any issues keeping key coulmns as blank, then you need to select all and right click the mouse and go to spredsheet option. This will also fetch you the same format from SAP

My contact phone numbers are no longer formatted and texts come from numbers instead of people. What gives?

All of a sudden all of my contacts as displayed on my iPhone have lost their formatting. So the numbers all read as 1234567890 instead of (123) 456-7890. And, what's worse, is when I go to the texting app, all of my texts are still there, but instead of showing me the contact name, all I see are the unformatted phone numbers of where they came from.
Any ideas on why? It's a Verizon iPhone 4S. This lack of formatting is not showing up on my Mac nor my iPad. Would a re-sync fix this? I'd hate to have a re-sync screw up the info on my computer and pad, though...

I too am having the same problem, and use the *228 then killing all my open apps solution to bring my numbers back to the correct format. However, as just a one time fix, I keep on getting the same problem again after a few weeks, and last week, after a few days of doing the *228 fix. Does anyone know what is causing this problem on Verizon iPhones? As a point of information, I was previously on AT&T with my iPhones until my wife transferrred me over to Verizon (on her business account because she wanted to surprise me with a new iPhone 4S).

Combine movie and soundtrack exported from Keynote

Hi!
I have made a presentation in Keynote '09 and have added some audio as a soundtrack to it (playing throughout the presentation). When exporting to the Quicktime movie, I get two files, presentation.mov and presentation_soundtrack.mov (the option to export the soundtrack is of course selected in the export options window). When opening the presentation.mov in Quicktime player, the audio plays fine. However, I would like the movie and audio file to be combined in the same file. How to do this?

Since I am trying to do a number of things with Keynote, I read these discussions looking for opportunities and pitfalls.
I read your message, and saw your outcome as an issue. Since I've yet to add the soundtrack to my current project, I needed to know more about the outcome before I proceeded, in order to adjust accordingly.
I took my project, and added a song as the soundtrack. I played the slideshow, and the soundtrack played along, across the slides as it should. I then began to record the slideshow, but the soundtrack came playing through the speakers and was being picked up by the microphones, so I offed the speakers, donned my headphones, and re-began the recording. The soundtrack was playing (in the headphones), and I was narrating across many slides.
I played the recorded slideshow, and all was present - soundtrack and recorded narration.
I exported to Quicktime, sending the output to a new folder so that it could easily be found, along with anything else that might be generated. Upon completion, there was only one movie file in the folder. I opened and played it in Quicktime. It was perfect - slides looked good, narration was there, and the soundtrack was playing in the background.
This outcome appears to be your objective, so I'm not sure what I did differently than you, but from this experience, it works as should be expected.

SFTP functionnality and import/export from unix/linux side

With the new release, can you add two importants functionnalities :
- Add sFTP with FTP, Email, Unmanaged disk because some customers like me want security. Normally, it's not very complicated because Apache-commons-vfs.jar can use all of this (with jsch.jar).
- Add possibility to import and export universes/documents from/to CMS on file system with SDK.

Files stop rendering after a while! both in media encoder and direct export from timeline

hi there,
getting very frustrated here need to deliver a file but each time it stops rendering (each time at the same moment)
I tried several encodings (mpeg, H264, wmv) with the same disappointing results.
What i found out is that the first preset i used worked. (i rendered a waveform file for mastering in my audio software)
When starting te export a new file from the timeline you will see the latest preset you used (in my case windows media audio file)
then any following preset you choose won't work. Encoding will stop. When restarting the program and going back to the export menu will
show the first preset i had chosen (the only one that did work) which tells me that any other preset i choose won't work.
I tried several tricks (import timeline in another one, save copy project etc) non succesfull.
i work with PC/asus P6T SE/i7 - window 7 professional
hope anyone can help me with a workaround!

P.S. i succeeded to render the previous file with specific H264 setting using CBR in stead of VBR encoding but can not reproduce it so far!

How do I keep formatting while importing/exporting from/to excel using Numbers for Ipad

I have an excel file that I export to Numbers on my Ipad. The problem is I lose all of my formatting. I use a lot of linking cells in the excel version of the file. And even when I work on the Numbers version of the file and put in the pop up menus, I lose those when I export to excel. Is there any way to keep this formatting when exporting/importing?

Migintosh, I hadn't thought of that, but turns out that is my problem. I seems when I place the file, indesign in automatically changing those values. Is there a way to force indesign keep those at 0 (or whatever value I want) as I place the text? Right now, what happens is I place the text and then have to select all and manually set the before and after to 0 since indesign decides to change the after spacing to 0.1389.

Correct settings for editing videos in web format and Mov Export

Under Premiere CS3 it was possible to create a project based upon web resolutions i.e 1024x768 and after editing export it as a simple .mov file. Under CS4 this seems to have been totally removed and only video dimensions appertaining to the TV or Film are available with no reference to web resolutions at all.
I tried to open up a project file that I saved in Premiere CS3 in CS4 but this just results in the preview being blurred. If anyone has information on how to import a movie at 1024x768 into Premiere and edit it and then just export as a basic .mov file at the same size (1024x768) I would be very grateful, I have spent hours trying to work this out.

What are the specs of your source footage? The more detail, the better.
That is what you will set your Project/Sequence to. For odd Frame Size and other irregularities, you will need to be in Desktop Mode and set everything according to your source footage. That's why I asked for details on what you are Importing. The format/CODEC will be important. If you do not know, then G-Spot will be your friend and tell you.

Why won't my file names and edits export from iPhoto

I spent hours making edits to some photos and I see my new file names and edits in iPhoto but when I export or drag them into a new folder none of the file names or edits are copying over. How can I fix this?

Add a Title to a photo - which is what you do in iPhoto - is not the same as renaming a file. There is no way to rename a file in iPhoto, you can, however, choose to use the Title as a filename when you export.

Multiplexing MPEG-2 and Aiff exported from compressor

I have been exporting MPEG-2 and Aiff files of of videos through compressor. I have been using Bit-Vice Helper to Multiplex them together for broadcast.
My problem is that on longer videos, the audio will cut out part way through the video.
Does anyone know of alternate means of multiplexing the MPEGs and Audio, or has anyone run into a similar problem and know of a fix for it?

Are you trying to create an MPEG2 Program or Transport stream? If so, Compressor 3 does this.

How to change date format and time zone from the client.

In order to change time zone, you need to go Administration-> Access Management (Step 1), and select your name on the right (Step 2).
Then select Edit tab at the bottom of the screen, and change both Time Zone and Regional Setting.

Best video format to export from final cut pro to encore

hi, i'm using final cut pro and no matter what format i export my video in, be it quicktime, mpeg2 or avi, there's still a slight degradation of picture quality when i import it into encore. mpeg2 by far suffers the least. but is there a best video format i can export from final cut to adobe so dat there's minimal loss in quality?

Sure, export it as an uncompressed AVI or QT file.
