W500 cant boot blank screen. help.!

After setting, the bios default graphics card to discrete. My w500 cant boot up.. No display at all and only left 2 light, charging led and the.one beside the battery both stable.. Anybody know the work around or are there any ways to reset the bios? I tried blind hitting f1, then f9 enter and f10. Nothing happen...

there is no detailed step by step. You have to reflow the ATI GPU. For methods of reflowing, i think you can look on YouTube. You would need to remove the motherboard to do this.

this is the location of the ATI GPU without the heatsink.
Since my T500 and W500 were stolen, i dont have any machines to take a picture of the approximate heatsink location.

MacBook pro won't power up! Acting asleep, black screen, fans don't fire up. Light nr catch pulsing, have taken batt out and reset but still blank screen, help!!

You may want to try this.
    Solution A
Start up your MBP while pressing Option (alt)|, Command, P, R until your hear 3 chimes rather than 2 as indicated by apple. This worked for me the first time.
    Solution B
Start your MBP while pressing Option (alt), Command, S
Hold until you see the computer automatic routine. When it finally stops type the following followed by "return":
    fsck -fy
It will probably indicate some problem related to "pcscd.pub" (should be 16 instead of 17). I haven't figured out what this means but somewhere in the Internet i read it is related to scan cards...
More importantly this routine will fix any problems with your HDD similarily to disk repair. When it ends, it will tell you if it has fixed/modified anything. If it has, run the routine again by typing again "fsck -fy"
Lastly, reboot by typing "reboot" (followed by "return")
    Solution C
Start up your MBP while pressing option (alt), command, S
hold keys until you see computer commands scrolling
when the routine stops type the following, each line followed by the "return" key:
    mount -uw /
    chmod 775 /
    chmod 1775 /
    reboot
After which your computer should reboot on it's own.
Each of the above has worked for me at one time or another. Once your computer has rebooted from the DVD you can reinstall OS X. If your problems started after installing 10.5.6, then I don't suggest updating until 10.5.5.
I'm very very disappointed with my 2007 MBP, it started to give me problems after 1 year. had to change the HDD and lately when I isntalled 10.5.6 it suddenly refused to start up., My previous Mac laptop (2003 866Mhz) worked for 4 years without a hitch. Ironically I've had to use it to access the internet and find solutions for my current MBP.
    best of luck

  • S10 would not boot, blank screen, hardware problem??

    hello all,
my s10 was working perfectly the previous night, but the next day when i press the power button, the screen was blank.
When I press the power button, the blue light came on to indicate power, and also the wireless light came on.
The fan also started up, but then it turns off, leaving a blank screen, it seems nothing was booting or working except for those 2 lights. I have tried it with battery in and out and also with AC. But it still doesn't work.
Is it a hardware (like maybe circuit or harddrive) problem? As when I decide to hold down and press on power button when i found out is not working, the screen flickers and the computer shuts down.
I got some important school work, last yr of high school, hopefully someone can help me to get my computer running again, is only 5 months old =[
    Thank you, canicecy =]

I will propose you something close to one thing done but slightly different and tried (and worked) many times and with many different laptops having the same issue as yours. You need to Reset any possible electrostatic Charge.
take off the battery and the power cable (this means no contact to any current)
press continuously the power button for 10 seconds.
    plug back everything and retry
if it persists you can try it a second time but if after this it's still the same you must call the hotline and repair you unit as long as you are under warranty.

  • P6N SLI V2 wont boot, blank screen

Hi, Ive just baught on eBay the MSI P6n SLI V2 mobo and i got it unwrapped it carefully as you do, took out my Abit P35 Pro and wacked this new board in (i want SLI so this was the best option with my budget (as the Abit board only supports Crossfire (and at a appalling x4 speed) so ive installed it all and ive put all the wires in following the instructions and it boots up perfectly, making all the normal sounds.
Now heres the problem... i have only 1 G card atm (lending the other out to someone) so i put it in NoN SLI mode, and i jsut get a blank screen. ive tryed other cards, allways a blank screen, and the cards all work in other pcs.
The cards i am trying to put into it are duel Geforce 8800 GT Fatal1es (1gb DDR2) and i have also tryed it with an ATI Radeon X 1860 (or something) but to no avail.
I have flashed the CMOS and tested to see if it was my RAM (Corsair Duel channel 4gb DDR2 800mhz (2x 2gb)
    nothing happened...
so am i going to have to get my money back or is there something i havent done???

You have not provided enough info to help you. Please provide CPU model and PSU model and amps for +3.3V, +5V & +12V.

What do you mean by that? You 'cleared CMOS' or 'flashed BIOS'? Two entirely different things.

  • ITunes preferences opens with blank screen, HELP!

Alright so I was getting bored of the Windows Media Player interface, so I decided to go back to iTunes.
The installation went fine, but when I wanted to change my options/Preferences, it comes up with this weird blank screen.

I've searched on google and only found 1 thread about this with no answers. So I decided to come and ask here.

  • Blank Screen- HELP PLEASE!!

    HI
My ipod mini has a blank screen. It went very faint suddenly and then the writing just disappeared. The screen still lights up and the music plays but its really hard to find the music without the screen and now I've lost it! I'm away from home (and my PC) so can't reset it as I can't put the music back on. Am REALLY stuck.
    Bea

You can reset it. Just hold down the menu/select buttons until the Apple logo appears. Keep trying if it doesn't work first time, and if you have the charger, do it whilst it's plugged in.
Restting the iPod will not erase the music.

my phone was working and then I went to plug it in to charge, the screen went blank and a battery symbol with a red line through it came on. A Red LED light appeared. I had it charge all night and still the same blank screen w/battery symbol and red line.
do I need a new battery? what can I do to get my screen back and my phone working?? my phone was working prior to this.

    Welcme to the Frums
Where did you get your battery? Make sure it is the correct one for your curve and I would take it back. Maybe it was an old stock battery?

  • Osx 10.1 installs, won't boot-blank screen

I recently picked up a G3 from the local University salvage store for $15, bad floppy & no harddrive. So I dragged it home and set it up, added an old 14gig drive, put in an os 9.2.2 cd and off it went. Thinking that I might like to try getting os 10 on it I split the partitions into a 4gig and 10gig. So far so good. It seemed to rip through os 9, played dvds fine, and even ran Simcity 3000 smoothly.
And then I had to go and try Osx.
The installer ran fine, I selected the 4gb partition for Osx and sent it on its merry way. At the end of the install the "your computer will now restart" message came up, and then the reboot.
Now it starts, chimes, the monitor will kick on for a breif second and then off and nothing! I tried the cuda reset switch which did nothing. If you hold p-r-option-command, the screen will turn on show the Os 10.1s happy mac and restart. If you put the os 10.2 upgrade cd in you can here the cdrom reading off it as it loads it, but you cant see anything. I put the os 9 disk back in, and after a pram reset it will boot the os 9cd fine.
So now the system start folder is set back to os 9, and its working fine.
I really don't have a clue whats going on here. I've pulled all the pci cards, unhooked drives but the cd and hd trying to trouble shoot this with no luck. The battery in its good as it holds the time fine so I don't think thats the problem. I really don't need osx and all its compatability problems with the biege's, but somthing I can't have makes me that much more determined.
Heres a run down on the specs if it helps any.
    Biege G3 @ 300mhz
    Rev. 3
    196mb ram
onboard ati has the extra 4mb of ram
ide 12gig hd set to master (tried it every way)
2x apple dvd drive set to master
All the pci cards except the av/sound card are pulled at the moment.
Pc monitor hooked to an adapter on the outside of the case. This is the only thing I can think of that might be might be causing the problem yet, but I don't have any mac monitors so I cant check it. Is there any way to manualy set osx's display resalution through os9 if its the problem?
    Thank you for your help,
    Chris

I'm not planning on using the old girl for much more then tinkering around with, so the 4gb should be more then enough. Any encoding or that kind of stuff will probley be sent off to my Toshiba or Dell maybe the imac. I just enjoy messing around with the older legacy macs and was hopeing by getting osx on it I could justify having another box cluttering up my house (9 and counting lol).
I have the full install version of 10.1, my 10.2 cd is an upgrade only cd and will only install if it detects an early version of 10.

  • T41 Series wont boot/Blank Screen

    Hi Guys and Girls,
My Girlfriend recently inherited a T41 from her father and I decided to give it a clean up for her as her father had no anti spyware protection or anti-virus, so after installing a few programmes like AVAST and Spybot to clear it up we turned it off and yestreday when we tried rebooting for the first time, it went to the dreaded blue screen. So my GF resetted and now it wont even boot, power is commin through, the lights are on, I can here the drive on, but screen is blank, and nothing is happening. Can anyone help? would it be caused by the anit-viral programmes? or is ther something nasty at work here? I do know that the USB plugs had stopped working a few months ago, but I thought that was due to driver issues whihc I was goin to correct..if that info helps. Thanks in advance for eny help provided

Hardware failure doesn't necessarily refer to dropping the laptop or spilling liquids onto it. It refers to the end of the life of a particular component, which would then need replacing. Laptops are not made to last forever. Everyone knows that the only thing that lasts "forever" are diamonds.
Now back to your situation, you said that the IBM screen doesn't show up. If you look very closely to the LCD while booting up, are you able to see anything?

  • T430U not booting - blank screen or never gets passed splash screen

    System specs:
    Lenovo T430U
    Intel i5-3427U
    8GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz SoDIMM Memory
    HDD 500G 7200rpm Toshiba
    mSATA 24GB Samsung Cache
Win 8 Pro, upgraded to 8.1
I rarely use this machine but a couple of months ago I went to boot it up and found that I was not able to get past the Windows splash screen. Sometimes I don't even get the Windows splash screen, I just get a black screen. Rarely I get a Windows screen saying that it is diagnosing a system problem or something to that effect and I can even get to where it will allow me to do some Windows diagnostics but nothing ever comes of it and the process is extremely slow.
I called Lenovo, but of course my machine is out of waranty so the tech just gave me a few pointers and said I could send it in to the depo but the potential repair cost could range up to about 75% of what I paid for the machine in the first place. Anyways, after having me try a few things in the BIOS he suggested that it was likely the hard drive. I mistakenly thought from the time that I bought this machine that the OS was installed on the 24 GB SSD so I ordered a new SSD and swapped it in. This made no difference at all as I have now learned that the mSATA SSD drive is merely for cache to speed up booting.
I am afraid that this means the main HDD is at fault, and quite frankly, if I replace it I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 7. But I do have pictures and docs that I would like to salvage if possible. Any ideas on what might be going on here?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Install this on the computer that you are going to hook up the hard drive to: https://www.piriform.com/recuva
I've had pretty good luck with it in getting files off of dying hard drives.  Wrap the hard drive in a small towel and put it in the freezer for a half an hour, then take it out and hook it up and run recuva right away.  You might get lucky.
It sounds funny but I've had it work more than once.

Simply restore from the latest backup you made to iCloud or iTunes, prior to the damage incident. You were backing up to iTunes regularly, or at least using iCloud to backup wireless & automatically... right?
If you cannot make a backup of the damaged device at this point, and you do not have a backup of the data on the device, then you cannot access the data on the device, and it is lost.  What would you have done if instead of simply being damaged, it had been lost or stolen?
This is a harsh lesson.  Now you know why it is recommended to backup regularly.  Learn from your mistake, and don't repeat it.

  • XPS One A2010 - No boot/Blank Screen

    Hello,
I received a Dell XPS One A2010 machine that was updated with Windows 7.  It worked for about a month but now when I power it on, I immediately hear the fans come to life, the power button on the left side of the monitor goes blue, as does the monitor screen button in the right hand corner on the front ... but I never get a picture.  Have to hold the power button down for ten seconds in order to turn off the machine.
Here's what I've done so far:
-Held power button down for 15 seconds, let go. Pulled power from back of machine.  Held power button down again for 15 seconds, let go. Opened up machine, removed motherboard battery, held power button down another 15-30 seconds. Waited about 30 minutes, put battery back in ... right side up ... closed up machine restarted.
-This time I actually got a screen to come up with messaging (see below):
[logo image for American Megatrends at top of screen with URL for www.ami.com]
Press F11 if you want to boot from the network
    Press F12 for BBS POPUP
    Initializing USB Controllers .. Done.

    CPU fan failure
    System fan failure
    COMS checksum error
    CMOS Date/Time Not Set
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue
So, I pressed F1 and ran through the SETUP, resetting the proper date and time.  Also noticed the BIOS was 2.0.4, which is an earlier version.  Decided not to update the BIOS after reading about others having issues with an updated BIOS on XPS One rigs.  Saved my changes and was instructed to hit F10 in order to "Save My Changes and EXIT."  Well, after hitting F10 my machine instantly went back to no picture with the fans still running.
Noticing the Fan Failure error messages, I turned off the machine, opened it up, took out and thoroughly cleaned all the fans. Then I took out the video card/heat sink all-in-one part to inspect it.  Looked good from my eyes.  Replaced everything and turned the machine on.  Same thing.  No picture, blue lights on again, and fans running.
    Questions:
—Can I assume the problem is not the video card/heat sink since I received and can see those messages/instructions on my screen?
—Does it seem from my post that the motherboard is toast?
—Could this be an issue with the previous owner's IT department installing Windows 7 on a previous Windows Vista machine?
Any advice/suggestions/things to try/solutions would be most helpful.  Trying desperately to get this machine up and running to give to my daughters by Christmas.
    Many thanks,
    Joe

I have replaced the power supply now and there is no change. I see a flash of the backlight when I initially power the system on, then the post beeps and nothing displayed.
To recap, initially the system would not post. I attributed this, correctly, to a failed video card. Replaced it and I'm reasonably certain I could boot into Windows though I couldn't see anything. There was appropriate POST beeps and hard drive activity light consistent with Windows booting. When I waited for the hard drive activity light to stop, I could then press the power button and there would be hard drive activity consistent with Windows shutting down and the system would power off.
I replaced the inverter, but I lost track of which power leads were connected where on the inverter board. (IF anyone knows where the pink and blue leads connect for certain PLEASE let me know). Anyway, no change.
I replaced the LCD. No change.
I replaced the motherboard. No change.
I replaced the CMOS battery with a new one. No change.
I cleared the BIOS config, now I can't boot into Windows but otherwise, no change.
Finally, I bought a power supply, as recommended, and replaced it and you guessed it, no change.
So I guess, besides maybe getting the inverter connected incorrectly, I have tried replacing every part that I could even remotely imagine could cause my issue. I have devoted a lot of time to figuring this out and I almost always solve a system problem. Help!?!

  • Portege 2010 does not boot - blank screen

    Hi There
I need some help as my 2010 does not boot up. When I press the power button the power light comes on but I get nothing on the screen.
It was working when my brother was using it until the mouse froze and then he powered it off. He then powered it back on in which case only the power light came on with nothing on the screen.
The hard drive was clicking when it was working so I do have a gut feeling that the hard drive must have died and causing the laptop not to come back on as when I power it on I don't get no hard drive light or sound form the hard drive at all.
I don't even get anything on screen. Not even the red Toshiba boot sign. So that's worry in me as well.
    Many Thanks, Jagz

    Hi
I dont think its a HDD problem.
If the HDD would be dead you will get a message on the screen saying the notebook is not able to find a booting device.
If the Toshiba splash screen does not appear I think its something wrong with the motherboard. I assume the graphic card is dead. But to be 100% sure a check is needed.
In my opinion you should ask a service partner or an technician for an help.

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 does not boot - blank screen

    I have a problem with a 2 year old satellite l305d-s5934.
On switching on, the power light comes on but the hard drive light does not and the screen stays blank.
I have tried removing the battery and restarting without it after pressing power button, but nothing changes.
Any advice on fixing the problem would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi
Remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor and leave the notebook disconnected for a longer period of time. After that connect both parts can try to power up the unit once again
If this does not help, check the RAM. Remove the single module and test both slots using each module.
Of course it could be possible that both modules are faulty and this procedure would not help you.
In worst case the motherboard might be affected in such case only mobo replacement would be helpful.
