W500 - switches to 16-bit color depth after disconnecting LCD TV

Hi guys,
My W500 always changes the screen color depth to 16-bit when I select "Notebook only (factory default)" on Fn+F7 menu, after watching movies on LCD TV. It happens both on Display Port and VGA connector. I have set "separate displays" (no desktop cloning). I remember having the same issue with old T61p. How to prevent that from happening?

How can I watch video encoded with 10-bits color depth correctly via Adobe Flash Player?

16-bit color depth for gradients?

I have created gradient backgrounds inside of inDesign CS6 but see some color banding in offset printer's color proofs. Is there a setting/option to set inDesign to generate its color gradients at 16-bit color depth?

Jeffery, It seems like that should work, but if you look closely at the histograms it doesn't look like you get 16-bits of gray levels. Here's a black to white blend exported to PDF/X-4 and opened as 8 and 16 bit CMYK. The black channel histograms are the same:
If there were more than 256 levels of gray in the 16-bit version I should be able to make a correction without gaps showing in the histogram, but that doesn't happen:

Remote desktop from Win 7 to Win server 2003 only allows 16 bit color depth. How to increase to at least 24 bit?

Hi! I'd like to RDP in to a Win server 2003 computer from my new Windows 7 (x64) computer. There's no problem to connect but the connection only allows me to use 16 bit color depth on the Windows server 2003 client. The program I want to use on this computer requires at least 24 bit to run.
I've googled around and tried it all:
-setting the color depth to 4 or 5 through regedit (on both computers)
-creating a Group Policy object-snap in through mmc
-reading endless of forums but no one has had the same issue as I
My question. If all the ordinary solutions isn't working what could the issue then be? My only suspision at this point is the the RDP-client on Win server isn't working properly. The Windows Server 2003 client is fully updated machine and it should have the RDP 5.2-version installed but I can only find 5.1. Could this be the issue? That it needs to be 5.2 to properly communicate with a win7(x64)? If so, how can I upgrade solely the RDP-client since it seems not to have followed with the Automatic Update as it should?

Thanks for your feedback and the test.
I still recommend you to check the local group policy setting “Limit maximum color depth” on the Terminal Server side. Based on your description of Group Policy Object Editor, I suspect the loss of Terminal Services folder is caused by system.adm file not loaded successfully. Please try to fix it via the following steps:
1.     Open Group Policy Object Editor (run “gpedit.msc”) on the terminal server.
2.     Expand Computer Configuration \ Administrative Templates
3.     Right click Administrative Templates folder and select Add/Remove Templates, if system is not listed in the panel, go to Step 4; If it is, remove it and go to Step 4.
4.     Click Add button.
5.     In the next phase, it is Windows\inf folder, if it is not, please navigate to the folder. Select system.adm file and click Open.
6.     Check if the Terminal Services folder appears under Windows Components now.

32 bit color depth support

I'm operating from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, which natively supports 32-bit color depth. Is photoshop touch rendering at this level? or is it 16-24 bit color. not sure i could tell without comparing two images from actual screens.
basically from what i gather, the answer is at that photoshop touch, in its ability to render psd, jpg and png is at least using a color space providing 24 or 30 bit color depth. the device's color space is capable of rendering 32 bit color depth.

Will mountain lion supports a 10 bits color depth?

Just wondering if and when it will, and how much it affects color accuracy in photography comparing to chain that supports a full 10 bits per channel color depth.

16 bit color depth not supported in PSE 7 (only 8bit) ????

I just updated to PSE 7 and when I try to edit a Raw file from my 5D M II a box pops up and stating that PSE provides only limited support for files with 16bit color depth and then asks me to convert the file to 8 bit.
I have updated the plug-in to support the Raw files from the 5D M II and do not have a problem with that, it's just the color depth.
I want to use the files from my camera to the max (16 bit).
Can I fix this??? If so, how????

Can I set 4-bit color depth (16 colors) with a Unix command?

"M4" by Deadly Games, a Sherman Tank simulator, insists that the color be set to 16 before it will launch completely and run, but the least I can select on my G4 QS 2002 with 9.2.2/10.3.9/10.4.10 is 256 colors. Is there a way to choose fewer colors than 256 using Terminal and a Unix command?

I can't imagine any current game would require that setting. Even if it only uses 16 colors internally it shouldn't need the entire system to be set that way.

So far, there isn't been an official answer. Support millions of colors could be either one.

My question is more toward the hardware on that iMac monitor rather than the software setting (32-bit).

16-bit color depth SVG output?

I have a very dumb question... How do I output 16-bit SVG files from Illustrator?
I've been working with Illustrator for what has seemed an eternity but have never ventured into the realm of SVG. Now I have found myself with the need to do some test files for a customer and they are requesting to see 16-bit SVG output. We have been doing files for this customer but up until now these have been 8-bit JPG output from EPS originals (using the save for web feature).
I did my homework and searched through the Adobe forums (and other web sources) but couldn't find much information on this topic. If anyone has a suggestion, a link or anything that sheds any light over my head on this matter I will forever be greatful.

Rough color gradient transitions using 24-bit color

I just started playing around with gradient background shading in GNOME and noticed that almost any color combination has very rough, obvious transitions between shades. This is not the case when using this hardware on Windows. I'm using 24-bit color depth with an LCD flat panel. Has anyone else noticed this (i.e. could it be that GNOME uses a large step between shades when computing the colors for the gradient) or could it be config or otherwise my fault?

It seems that 24 is not supported anymore and that we need a rdp version 6 client ( instead
of 5.2 ) to upgrade to 32 bit.
We have the same problem that we need 24 bit for a medical imaging application, and we
will stick to windows server 2003 until a new uttsc version is released.

Does duplicating layers from an 8-bit PSD reduce the color depth of a new 16-bit edit?

I have been using several versions of Photoshop over the years starting with CS3, then CS6, and finally CC. Through 2012, all my RAW files were converted using 16-bit color depth in ACR. However, in examining my files recently, I noticed all were in 8-bit color-depth, which likely happened once I upgraded to CS6 and ACR left 8-bit as the default. As such, I now have hundreds of images that I wanted to edit in 16-bits that have been converted to 8-bit starting with my ACR export. The files are all RAWs from cameras like the Canon 5D, 5D Mark III, Olympus OMD EM5, and Sony RX100.
I have 8-bit PSDs of my edits of these files which contains multiple layers. I use features from the Nik and Topaz collections for noise reduction, contrast enhancement, black and white conversion, and sharpening. I also use layered Photoshop features like Selective Color. I want to know if I can simply duplicate the layers from the 8-bit PSD files onto a new 16-bit RAW converted background layer rather than re-edit each and every file. There would be no change in the crop of other reasons why the layers would not match up, but I am concerned that duplicating those layers might throw away the benefit of moving to 16-bit since they were created in an 8-bit color-depth.
As a test, I looked at a few files where I had pushed the shadows and colors to an extent and duplicated the layers from an 8-bit conversion to a 16-bit conversion and could see no difference. I am not sure if this is because Photoshop has become very good at reducing color-depth without a perceptible difference or if I am throwing away information in moving the layers.
I work off of a fairly modern computer and a top-end Eizo CG276 self-calibrating monitor and good video card. I am extremely sensitive to color and shade changes as well.
Thanks for any help, I am a bit stressed at the thought of re-editing hundreds of files from step 1, but it is important to me that I not throw away color information and it is better I start re-editing now rather than years from now.

While raw file contain a 8Bit jpeg previews image in some color space. The RAW sensor data is not a color image and has no color space and the bit dept of pixels depend on the manufacturing. Most sensor produce one value for each pixel 10 to 14 bit seems to be common. Sensors only measure the light intensity not color. If front of each pixel sensor is a color filter which lets Red or Green or Blue light be measured for intensity.
A RAW converter can convert your sensors RAW data into a color RGB image in any color work-space in 8 or 16 bit color depth. No Adobe update went around and scanning your computer looking for 16bit color depth images and convert all of them to 8bit color. Your ACR workflow settings may have been change from 16 bit color to 8 bit color by you or set to 8bit by some update or script used. So you current ACR work-flow setting may be converint tou raw datya into 8bit RGB images. As long as you have you raw files you can reprocess these to produce 16Bit color RGB Image by makinf the proper ACR work-flow settings. You can also change your 8bit image to 16 bit image mode. However this will not recover any color quality lost or posterization that has set in.. It will give you a bit more latitude using Photoshop filters which may help you not get banding posterization.

PSE 8 refused to handle 16 bit color

When I tryed to Import some foto I took last in to PSE 8 and photo-Panorama section
I got the following message Photoshop Elements with a triangle and yellow[ ! ] This action cannot be performed on a file with 16 bit color depth
Do you want to convert to 8 bits/channel
The other problem it did not load all the fotos that I had check to be loaded
Any ideas as to why this happened
Camera was Pentax K10D which should not be the problem?

In lightroom under File>Export, you should be able to export your files as 8 bit.
Also you might have a look at this plugin for lightroom, which lets lightroom
use photoshop elements much as it uses photoshop.

I tried several times in the past to use 16 bit files with photomerge and while it
worked sometimes, other times i had the same problem your having. So i decided
just to convert my files to 8 bit and avoid all that. (photomerge does this anyway)
I suspect that's the reason you had trouble opening the rest of your files after
the first one in photomerge.

Can VESA do high resolution and 24 bit color?

Here is the basic reason why I'm asking:
I have a Radeon 9500 Pro. While it SHOULD be supported by the open-source "ati" driver, it isn't; my computer kernel panics as soon as anything is loaded, and it has ALWAYS done that (for the year and 2 months I've been using Linux). The fglrx drivers in Arch broke around 8.9 so I switched to Ubuntu 7.10 because those were the last fglrx that let me get to the desktop without a kernel panic (8.04 and 8.10 both kernel panic with "ati" and "fglrx" drivers). Well, the thing is, I don't want to use 7.10 because it has old software. I'd like to use newer software, but it isn't easy to do with Ubuntu if I don't want to break something or whatever.
I want to switch back to Arch, but "ati" drivers kernel panic (like always) and as of 8.11, fglrx doesn't support my video card (this is official from Ati). Vesa works fine, but the problem is the colors look terrible. I think it only uses 16 bit when I use vesa... it seems to support 1280x1024 okay (which is my monitors native resolution), but if the colors are crap it doesn't matter.
So, in summary, can I configure vesa to use 1280x1024 resolution and 24 bit color depth? I don't need 3d acceleration, I use my computer for coding (cs major), internet, and watching movies. Can vesa support those things okay or am I basically stuck with Ubuntu 7.10 until I can get a new computer (god knows when)?

The answer to your post is likely to be fund in the listings given in xorg.conf which lists every vesa mode therein.
Your post is not entirely specific but the modes given in vesa xorg listings are complete.
AFAIK vesa is fully capable altho perhaps not accel capable.
