W500 USB 3.0 Upgrade

Has anyone tried any of the Express Card USB 3.0 upgrade cards? I am looking into adding USB 3.0 support to my  W500. Since I never use the Expresscard slot, I am considering this card: StarTech ECUSB3S254F 2 Port Flush Mount ExpressCard 54mm SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card Adapter http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-ExpressCard-SuperSpeed-Adapter-ECUSB3S254F/dp/B00535CMEE  From what  have read, it appears I will get the full speed benefits of USB 3.0 using the Express Card slot.  Any thoughts, pro or con, appreciated.

Is the ExpressCard slot on the W500 54mm? The later W series systems only accommodated 34mm cards. I have this one that I sometimes use on my W520:

  • Is there USB 1.1 to USB 2.0 Upgrading Software-Patch?

    Hello,
I wanted to buy External-DVD-Writer with USB connection,
all the models are *USB 2.0* specific,
my imac has *USB 1.1* on the computer and the keyboard,
sales person told me that there is *USB 2.0 UPGRADE* that i can download
and upgrade my *USB 1.1* to *USB 2.0*.
    Is there such a download?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
It would be far better to purchase a Firewire External Drive. You cannot boot a PowerPC (G4) iMac from a USB drive and Firewire is faster for sustained transfers than USB2.0.
    OWC DVD±RW DL Burner.
I would suggest that you shop elsewhere in future; this sales person clearly doesn't understand what they are trying to discuss(!).

My ipad2 charged very well via USB until I upgraded to system 7.0.4.  Now it displays "not charging: whenever I plug into USB.  Any suggestions?

Charge it with the supplied power brick plugged into the wall.
Most USB ports don't put out enough power for the iPad so the best way is plugged into the wall.

  • USB 3.0 Upgrade for HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

Is it possible to upgrade my HP Pavilion dv9700 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC to USB 3.0?  I've been searching the website and google and haven't found any concrete answers just yet.  I'd rather not have to buy a new laptop just to get USB 3.0.  It's been the most reliable pc I've ever had and I don't wantn to replace it!
    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi,
You have to buy a new laptop or swap the system/motherboard or buy an Express card - USB 3 (I've got one) or PC card - USB 3. For desktop , this is much simpler, a PCI - USB 3 card will do.
    Regards.

  • HT2801 can i use the Apple USB SuperDrive to upgrade my OS from 10.5 t0 10.6?

The optical drive on my Macbook Pro (Build 9L31a) broke a couple of years ago and I have thus far managed to get around it. Now that iCloud is about to reign down on my OS 10.5, I need to upgrade via disk. Will the new Apple USB SuperDrive do the trick or do I have to have the internal drive replaced. Is there another drive out there that would be better than the SuperDrive?
    Thanks!

Apple's USB drive won't work with your computer at all.

  • Problem with the USB-connection after upgrade to P...

    Hello to everybody!
    After upgrading PC-suite, I can't establish a USB-connection with the phone.
    Here are the facts:
    1) My phone is the E90. Latest software installed (300.34.84)
    2) PC-Suite version 7.0.9.2 english. I also tried the greek version, same problem with it also.
    3) Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver 7.0.2.1. I also installed manually a previous version of the driver (7.0.2.0), but this didn't solve the problem.
    4) I didn't have any problem with the older version of PC-suite.
    5) I don't have a problem with the cable because the data-transfer-mode works fine.
    6) Prior to any installation attempt, I always first uninstalled PC-suite and Cable-driver manually with the windows-xp uninstall program. This was not the fact, only in my first attempt, where I upgraded the pc-suite from inside the program itself.
Please help, because I can't backup and this is very important for me!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you all for your suggestions but nothing of the above worked for me.
After of hours and hours of installing and uninstalling of several versions of the pc-suite I solved the problem as following:
    1) Uninstall manually (windows - control panel - add/remove programs)Nokia-PC-Suite, Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver AND PC Connectivity Solution!
    2) Restart PC
    3) Download and install the new version of Nokia-PC-Suite.
The tricky part is that you have to uninstall the application called "PC Connectivity Solution" manually and since the title of the application dosn't include the Nokia-Name you have first to find out that this program is Nokia-related!
Once again, thanks to everybody who took the time to make suggestions and especially to cricfancy who made me aware of the fact that PC Connectivity Solution is a nokia application!
Finally, I would like to make a statement for Nokia:
People, if you are not sure about an update then keep it in beta and don't make it available to the public!!! I lost hours and hours on search and made countless installs and uninstalls to find out what was wrong. Under the line, I had made no mistakes in my update from the start and the whole problem was based on your software! This is not acceptable!

  • PowerBook G4 USB 1.1 upgrade

Is it possible to upgrade PowerBook's USB 1.1 to USB 2.0?

Hi, PinkieBlondie, and welcome to Apple Discussions. It isn't possible to upgrade a Titanium Powerbook's built-in USB 1.1 ports to USB 2.0, but you can easily add a USB 2.0 adapter card via the CardBus slot, giving you one to three high-speed USB ports. You'll need to remember, though, that those ports can't provide sufficient power to drive many of the bus-powered devices on the market, particularly including portable hard drives and iPods.
There have been many posts in the Titanium PB forums about trying to connect iPods that require USB 2 through CardBus adapter cards, with widely varying success. If that's what you have in mind, read your iPod manual carefully to see whether it says a built-in USB 2 port is required. If it is, an adapter card probably won't fill the bill, and you probably won't be successful. I don't have an iPod myself, and there are now so many different iPod models with so many different features and requirements that it would be practically impossible for anyone to have all the answers about what will work and what won't with all of them.
Just yesterday I picked up a USB 2 adapter card for my Tibook on closeout at CompUSA (which is in the throes of going out of business nationwide). It works fine with a USB 2 flash drive — giving data transfer rates about 5-6 times faster than USB 1.1, which may be the best you can hope for from the vastly overhyped USB 2 speed. (It's theoretically 30-40 times faster than USB 1.1, but in real life never close to that.) An empty USB 2 hard drive enclosure's bridge circuit is detected fine by System Profiler (the drive that will go in the enclosure hasn't arrived yet). If you're going to connect to your adapter card any USB device that doesn't have its own AC power adapter, be sure it can use (and if it can, be sure to buy) a second cable that draws power from a second USB port, thus doubling the USB bus power available to the device. If your device has no port for connecting external power, you may have to buy a USB 2 hub that has its own AC power supply, plug the hub into the adapter card, and plug the device into the hub.

  • Macbook cannot detect D-Link DWM-156(A7) USB modem after upgrading to OS X Yosemite ver 10.10

    Hi
My MacBook Pro 13" is unable to detect D-Link DWM-156(A7) USB modem once I open the D-Link Connection Manager app (to connect to the internet) even though the USB is plugged in.
The MacBook is able to detect the USB at first, but once after I open the D-Link Connection Manger, it can no longer detect the USB Modem and a notification which says "No USB Modem Connected" pops up.
This problem only surfaced after I upgraded the Macbook to OS X Yosemite ver 10.10. I tried to solve the problem by restarting the Mac but the same problem still arise.
    What do i do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    I figured it out!
I had the same problem with the dongle sent to me by Telkom South Africa.
Mine was D-Link Model: DWM-157. Here's how I fixed it.
I basically flashed or updated the firmware on the dongle to the latest one I got from the D-Link website.
    1. You need access to a PC (Windows computer).
    2. Go to: http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwm-157-3g-hspa-plus-usb-adapter
    3. Scroll down and download firmware version 4.5.4.7
    4. Once download is complete, move over to your windows PC. Plug in the D-Link USB dongle.
    5. Run the firmware update on the Windows PC while the USB Dongle is plugged, Follow the prompts, it takes a little while, sometimes it seems like it is stuck but be patient. Once its done it will ask you to press any key to continue.
    6. After the install, pull out the dongle and plug it back in, sometimes the device installation prompt will appear. If so, rerun the device installation again. Wait for all the drivers to install. If not open d-link connection manager on your windows PC and test if it is able to make a connection to the internet. If the test was successful go to #7 below.
    7. Go to your Mac. Uninstall the current D-Link connection manager your have.
    8. Plug the USB Dongle back, the installation prompt will pop up again.
    9. Go through the installation steps and a prompt will pop up asking you to restart, restart your machine.
    10. Run D-Link connection manager and you can now get to the connection screen. Wait a while for network to be found.
    11. Click connect.
    12. Come back here and tell us if this worked for you. It certainly worked for me.

  • Cannot access usb ethernet after upgrade

I upgraded from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8 via download and now cannot access USB Ethernet. Select "Network" in System Preferences & all I get is "beach ball." When I disconnect USB Ethernet, Network appears. I had to use Apple USB Ethernet adaptor because Ethernet board got fried and did not want to buy new Mac. Can I go back to 10.5.0 then to 10.5.5 combo? If so, how?

Solved my own problem. Reinstalled 10.5 then the 10.5.5 Combo updater and now USB Ethernet works. I guess I will stay away from any further updates after this. So, my ancient eMac lives for another day.

  • Atheros AR9271 USB and kernel upgrade

    Hi Friends,
My Atheros AR9271 USB wireless device just stopped working after a kernel upgrade (3.8.11-1 -> 3.9.2-1, x86_64). Besides the previously working netcfg setup, tried wifi-menu and wpa_supplicant. In all cases the kernel logs show
send auth to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 1/3)
deauthenticating from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx by local choice (reason=3)
Downgrading the kernel and nvidia driver brings back the wireless, but them X goes berserk, complaining of all sort of missing libraries.
Any suggestions on how to debug/solve this?
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Cantão.

And the problem persists with 3.9.4-1... I don't even know where to begin hunting this down

  • HP 48gII USB Support/OS Upgrade

I have 2 HP 48gII calculators.  The newer-released(??) one has two I/O ports, uses 4 batteries, and has a hard slip-on cover.  The I/O port D-connector connects to my computer USB port and works fine with the connectivity (Conn4x) software provided by HP.  I recently acquired another HP 48gII which has only one I/O port which is the D-connector type, uses only 3 batteries, and does not have a hard cover.  When I connect this older-designed calculator to my computer using the same cable as with the first HP 48gII, the computer does not recognize the device.  The calculator which doesn't work does have the Xmodem capability.  Does this mean that my operating system (VER 4.20031005) needs to be updated to that of the "newer" calculator (VER 4.20060106)?  First, is the operating system upgradeable on a 48gII?  If so, how can it be upgraded if no computer connection can be made?  Can an OS be transferred from one calculator to another?

    Hi,
    About firmware versions:
What you quote seem to be the hardware versions, obtained by typing VER.
To get the OS firmware version, type VERSION, you should get a response similar to:
    "Version HP48-C Revision #2.08 Copyright HP 2006"
    Updating the firmware:
As far as I am aware the 48Gii OS is not update-able, neither have any OS files been released by HP.  The OS cannot be copied from a calculator or between calculators. As there are some hardware differences between the two versions of calculator, I doubt the newer OS will work on the older calculator anyway.
The two different models of HP-48Gii:
The earlier model has 3 AAA batteries and 1 I/O port. This is a Serial (RS-232 type) port and not USB.
The later model has 4 AAA batteries and 2 I/O ports. This is 1 Serial (RS-232 type) port and 1 USB port.
    Communicating with the 48Gii's:
For the 4-battery calculator the I/O ports on the calculator are a micro-USB and a custom serial port. I assume you are using the micro-USB port.
The older 3-battery 48Gii can only communicate using a serial port on the computer or using a USB-serial converter (which requires its own driver). The port on the calculator is physically the same as a micro-USB, but it is not USB. This calculator originally came with it's own cable that had  a serial 9-pin connector on the computer side.
Please feel free to ask further questions.
    Regards.
Note: I do not work for HP, I just like playing with calculators :-)

  • Losing power to USB keyboard after upgrading to Maverick

Hi. Since upgrading to Mavericks 36 hours ago I've been losing power in my USB keyboard fairly frequently. Re-plugging the USB into the port works, but not for long. Anyone else getting this, and any fixes? Thanks all.

    Same here
    The situation I have :
During i type something, typeing suddenly freezes ( looked, like system became unresponsive) and after some time (1-3 secs) all that i previously typed appeared.
So it looked like keyboard was keeping all i typed in the buffer, and flushed entire buffer to the system.
During this stuck i tried to type something using MBP built-in keyboard -and all was very ok there, so problem is really in the USB keyb.
I tried to change batteries in it, but it didnt help , unfortunately

  • Need to search USB ports for upgrades to custom LV program

    Has anyone done this before:
I need to provide upgrades/maintenance to a piece of custom LV code that will be in the field. The program needs to check if any external disk devices (memory stick, cd, hard drive, etc) are connected to any USB port and if so copy the upgrades to their appropriate directory. Any suggestions or better ways of doing this would greatly be appreciated.

The List Directory function will probably be the easiest way to check the current directory info of your system. Attached below is an example VI that prompts the user when it finds a new drive.
    Good luck with development.

  • Any experience with USB 2.0 upgrade with VIA VT6202 chipset?

    Hello,
I'd like to know, if anybody suceeded with upgrading his PowerMac with USB 2.0 PCI card, which has VIA VT6202 chipset?
I found some of them very cheap and in one e-shop there was a tiny notice about supporting OS saying - MacOS X supported! These cards are sold under different names but all of them have same "L" shape, 1 port inside and 4 outside and there is VIA VT6202 sign on the chip .
    Btw I have Quicksilver 2002, 800MHz
    Thank you for your answers.
    Honza

Well, I've found some notices about cards with VIA chipsets and they aren't very good - NEC seems to be more reliable.
So again, does anybody have any experience with USB 2.0 PCI cards with NEC chipset?
    Thanks
