W510 Docked in 433820U Port Replicator USB Ports Occassionally Stop Working

Has anyone had the problem where the USB ports on the 433820U Port Replicator stop working? I've had it happen on several occassion where the USB ports on the port replicator stop working when I do something seemingly unrelated (e.g. unplugging a CAT5 network cable, dropping something on the desk near the docked laptop). Once this happens, I have to unplug the USB devices from the port replicator and plug them into the laptop's USB ports in order to continue using the keyboard or mouse, or turn the laptop off and then back on. I'm trying to figure out if this is a defect in the port replicator or some outdated driver. Anyone else have a similar problem?

This system supports USB3 ports but they are only USB2 on the port replicator. What's up with that?
Hi William:
I kinda, sorta think that the reason that the USB connectors on the Dock are only USB2 has to do with the speed of the connection between the big dock connector on the bottom of the notebook and the USB ports on the back of the Dock.
I notice a similar problem when I had a W500 and a earlier model Dock.  That earlier model dock had an UltraBay in it.  If I put a hard drive (installed in a caddy) in the Dock, it ran very slowly - as if it was connected by USB - but if I put the same hard drive in the same caddy into the UltraBay on the side of the W500, it ran very, very fast.  So, all I could attribute this to was that the data just could not flow through the dock connector on the bottom of the notebook as fast as it could flow through the UltraBay connector on the inside of the notebook.
Perhaps the same concept applies to the USB connectors on the Dock... maybe the USB3 connectors on the notebook itself have a faster data connection into the computer than the USB connectors on the dock, which need to pass through that big dock connector on their way to the computer.

  • 17" MBP Left side usb ports and audio stopped working

    Hello All,
I have a situation here with my MBP. A couple months ago it stopped detecting my airport card (not installed), I replaced it with another one which still showed as not having a card installed. So, I have just been using a usb wifi adapter which has been working fine, but recently the 2 usb ports on the left side have stopped working as well as I lost any sound. I've tried with or without headphones, still no sound it just shows a greyed out speaker and a circle with a line through it when I try to adjust volume. My initial thought was that the left I/O board was bad, but the dc-in board continues to work which, I believe, is part of the left I/O board. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Is the machine at least 4 years old?  If it is symptoms you are getting is a sign the PRAM battery is about to go.  Get it replaced.  If not, try zapping the PRAM.

  • G45 gaming USB 3.0 ports make all USB's flicker and stop working

I just got my PC up and running but every time I install the USB 3.0 drivers my G510/naga go crazy and stop working. I've updated all drivers and I'm running ver 1.6 bios, Should I just RMA it back to newegg before my 30 days is up?

Its a z87 g45 and if I install the 3.0 intel drivers all other usb(plugged into the 2.0 back ports and 2.0/3.0 front ports) go crazy flickering and then they stop working if I uninstall the drivers they are all fine again.
razor and g510 are all up to date.
This is my first MSI product and it might be my last lol.

  • A thousand USB questions .. later why do USB devices not mount/stop working

I know this is loaded post but I'm getting really torqued at the USB sub-system in OS X.
I bought a mini ~2 years to see what the OSX scene was like, so far it's mostly been a great OS but the USB problems past at work, on my home system only cropped up in the past few months is very frustrating. :-P
I've done the googling, apples pathetic troubleshooting pages, run the Profiler and USB Prober trying to determine all with no luck.
Can any of you help me "get it"?
At work, we had a OSX server a few years that failed to stop mounting a USB drive that had been used several time before. It was under support and Apple failed to resolve the problem!!
I had a Transcend usb enclosure that worked in 10.3 and by the time 10.4 rolled around it stopped working (checked on a few different macs)
Now I have a iogear gfr280 memory card reader/writer that worked three months ago and just tried to use it the other day ... borked!!. I then take it to work plug it into my co-workers iMac running 10.5, mounts up and I can copy my photos off the SD card, no issues. WTH!?
Also, just the other day my digital camera powershot A630 batteries ran out right as I was importing... Took me three hours of reboots, plugging in my thumb drive and camera only to have them show up for a split second then disappear from iphoto or the desktop.
I even thought of calling Apple on this one but I'm leary based on prior experience with the server incident.
This is even worse than under Linux(run that too), most times the kernel either supports the device or it doesn't ( I can live with that! ). None of this .. I'm gonna work and then all the sudden stop one day.
Anyone? Would it be worth paying for a one-time support call?

Try things in this USB faq.

Both the built in video camera as well as the USB plug camera have both stopped working and I cannot figure out why.  Of course I am a computer illiterate so that doesn't help.

  • Usb flash drive v240w stopped working

Hi....... i have a hp usb flash drive v240w that had stopped working..????
tell me what i can do to make it work again... or what i have to do for replacing it..

    johnl927 wrote:
If it was mounted to a system and not ejected correctly you might have messed up the boot record and mount point, if you can see it Disk Utility then the mount point of that drive is bad, you have to reformat it.
Mr H might have ejected it incorrectly (without doing the command E thing) but really I doubt it.
Not quite sure what you are saying here: since we DO see it in DU (where it says not mounted) then there is no way even to look at what is on the drive (the number of files and used space shows up in DU as well) and all I can do is reformat it?
I attached a good, working flash drive and it too shows up in DU, but it indicates where it is mounted (volumes/... if I recall) so I don't get what you say above where I underlined it.
Originally drive was formatted as MBR I suspect, being Sandisk.
I've never bothered to reformat the flash drives from their original formatting in the past - I use several and never have I had this problem.
As long as I have to now, what format do you suggest?
    Thanks,

  • All USB ports seem to stop working "randomly" but some remain functioning until unplugged and plugged back in. [WINDOWS 8.1]

The devices that die right away are the network adapter and any USB memory stick plugged in, they still have their lights and all running but aren't recognized in "This PC" and the network adapter isn't found in "Control Panel\Network and
    Internet\Network Connections".
My keyboard, wireless mouse that runs through the keyboard's USB ports and the external HDD remains functional UNTIL I pull the plug on them, after that plugging them back in does nothing.
I put randomly in quotations because it seems to fail more often when I download something at speeds over 3Mb/s, for an example downloading Hearthstone through the Battle.Net client will more often than not make the issue happen after a little bit. BUT it still
happens randomly during NO network load what-so-ever.

    * Turned off "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" in Device Manager for ALL devices in the USB tab that had the option, and the Network tab.
    * Set the Power Options to high performance and disabled "USB Selective Suspended Setting"
I simply don't know what to do anymore and it's breaking me down, I need this fixed before the weekend or the LAN I'm planning to go to will be a disaster and I'll probably go insane trying to solve this myself.
Just tell me whatever more information you could need and I'll supply it, I'm desperate to get this solved.
**I never had any of these issues on my old PC that had different parts but the same network adapter and external HDD so they are not to blame for this, same for keyboard and mouse.**

Hey, I hope this helps you out a bit... I have had the same issue on my Asus K55A notebook with Win8.1 Pro x64 from the beginning! Thru my extensive research I found something interesting and the possible cause to all this! What I found was that by design
the xHCI Host Controller has virtual HS 2.0 Ports linked to the 3.0 Ports... Enabling compatibility with 2.0 devices ok... What happens is that the xHCI stack is unstable just like you say... The ONLY WAY I was able to fix the problem was by unlocking the
UEFI/BIOS to allow me full access to USB Configurations... I had to disable 2 of the HS ports under the xHCI Controller since I have only 2x 3.0 ports... This allowed 3.0 devices to be enumerated correctly under the xHCI stack and 2.0 devices now were enumerated
under the EHCI 2.0 stack... That's what worked in my case... I'm still digging around for more info about this issue because I find it so odd that no one discovered this when designing xHCI stacks and drivers at MS for Win8/8.1 x64... I hope I shed some light
on this issue... Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi, Sebastian. I have the same problem but i'm getting crazy trying to solve it. Can you help me to unlock the UEFI to access full USB config? and give me some suggestions on how to solve the problem?

  • My Firewire port has suddenly stopped working. Please help!

I have a G4 Mac Mini, with 512 MB of ram. I was happily computing along when I went to go on my external hard drive and I noticed it wasn't there!!! At first I thought it was the hard drive, but it wasn't because my old iPod mini wouldn't work either. I tried the Apple Hardware Test, but it didn't even think I had a firewire port, which made me think I needed to reinstall Tiger, as it might reinstall the drivers? But it didn't. Apples website doesn't seem to have any drivers available for download either. What should I do? I need my photos, which are on the drive for school!!!
    Thanks for your help

    64 MB DRAM
    8MB Flash
DOS, Block WAN Rq, Remote mgmt all OFF
    IPSec Tunnel none used
    Internet connection is DHCP
LAN is set to DHCP with several Static devices defined
    DMZ is dsabled
    Functionining as a gateway
Time is set via NTP & the NRC
    IPV4 Only
Everything is pretty much dedault except for QoS
Trust mode is Port, set to 4, 4, 4, 1
( Port 4 has a Linksys ATA plugged into it for VOIP services )
SIP Port Forwarding is enabled for 5060
Every day or so the Router becomes unresponsive to the HTTP mgmt interface, as well as it no longer offers DHCP services.
When this happens the only remedy is to power reboot.
Everthing comes back online just fine, however, the LOGS are initilaized so no data to figure out what`s going on.
My next step is to setuo a syslog server and have the logs copied out.
Anyone see this kind of behavior before ?
    Any ideas ??
(  No, I have no Torrents running at all, but I do have several devices like AppleTV, PS3s etc that run streaming Video plus I have the SPA3102  )

    Hi there Vijay !
I cannot upgrade to that version of Firmware as my RVS4000 is a V1, not a V2.
Is there some way I can change it such that it will load the newer Firmware ?
This is the error I receive when trying to upgrade anyway :
"Upgrade file is not the correct type or version for this device.
    Upgrade failed.
Please obtain the correct file and try again."
Otherwise the newest firmware I can load is 1.3.3.5
( which seems to have this problem )

    Re: Camera problem
Suggest you buy (about $10) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.

When you install a video card that has DVI \ VGA outputs they will work, but not the video outputs at the rear of the motherboard. The BIOS will disable the onboard video. you can check it in the BIOS, but I don't expect you will see any video settings.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Kindly sugest me the what to do

    Hello rajeevkumar30
As I understand it you reinstalled Windows XP and now you have devices that are not being installed correctly? I would suggest that you visit the Compaq Presario V2000 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page and ensure that ALL your drivers and software are up to date. I would start with any BIOS and Firmware updates first than ensure your Drivers are up to date before moving on to your software.
As these are the drivers designed for your system this should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Webcam, USB Ports stopped working suddenly

    Hi everyone,
Wondering if anyone can help me, my webcam and all USB ports have suddenly all stopped working. Yesterday my mouse light was flickering but still working and today the same mouse won't light up at all. I tried with a different mouse and it would light up
but is not recognized by the computer and unusable. I tried both mice on a different computer and they work just fine. I also tried a few more devices with my usb ports and realized they don't work at all.
I was browsing the net yesterday and I tried the following suggestions already to no success:
    1. Turned computer off --> pulled out battery --> pulled out power chord --> Pushed power button for 30 sec --> put everything back and turned computer back on
    2. Ran sfc /scannow and ran chkd
    3. Tried system restore to the last date I remembered my mouse working
    4. Went to Device Manager --> uninstalled everything under Universial Serial Bus Controllers --> restarted computer
    5. Installed any critical updates for windows
    6. Tried deleting/renaming the INFCACHE.1 file but even after creating a new permission group (Administrator) with full control it put an x on it and wouldn't let me
    7. Ran Microsoft's automated troubleshooter
Really not sure what to do now....has anyone else been in a similar situation and can offer any suggestions? I am using an HP laptop (HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC) running Windows 7.
Is something broken with my hardware or am I just suddenly missing some drivers?

  • Help, 10.6.8 update, all usb ports stop working after 10hrs

I've been running 10.5.8 for ever and finnaly tried to update to 10.6.8.. After I did it, the usb ports all kick out any connected devises after around 10 or so hours. I ran of the install disk, using disc utillty, disk repair, and repair permisions a few times and it did not help.
I did the install a few times  again to try to see if it would help and didnt.
i tried an erase and install and migrated everything over from my orignal back up external drive that is running 10.5.8 and issue is still  there.
My old 10.5.8 back up external drive works fine and does not have this issue, and I have been using that as my start up drive instead and working from there. But that is not really a solution and a temp work around.
Any suggestions would really help. thanks!

I have a early 2008 macbookpro 2.8 duel with silver keys.
I purchaed the 10.6 disk from the apple store. I've had the machine for years and purchased it refurbished from apple.
I did the erase and install and migrated everything over from external drive, then did update to 10.6.8 and the usb ports still would stop working after a few hours.. Then I read on another apple community forus to reset pram, and pull out the power cable, take out the battery and hold power key for 5 seconds, then restart. that seemed to fix usb issue so far..
But overall my computer seems to be running slower then when using just 10.5.8 and it did not wake from sleep once and I had to force power off and restart.. But maybe its just getting used to 10.6.8. we will see..
Also, on another note, my battery is totally dead, and I can only run computer with power cable.. Will this affect things? it never did with 10.5.8..
Oh, on my erase and install, I just did the simplest version and did not do the full erase to zero using he advanced security measures.. I just did the one where it writes on top of everything..

  • Macbook Pro - Usb port stopped working

One of the 2 USB ports has suddenly stopped working and will not recognise any device.

Reboot the system and try it again.
If it still doesn't work thjen you can try a SMC reset and a PRAM reset and if that doesn't work then it's time for a trip to the Apple Genius Bar.
