W510 eSATA/USB2.0 combo port does not respond after waking up from sleep mode

Has anyone tried to connect external DVD/CD player or burner to the eSATA/USB combo port and experienced very slow system performance after waking up from sleep mode?  It might takes minutes to launch an application program that usually takes just few seconds.  My W510 can not even restart.  It will just stop at the Thinkpad logo if I tried to restart after waking up from sleep.
The funny thing is if I moved the external DVD/CD player to the USB2.0 port in the back, everything went back to normal.  I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the combo port has something to do with eSATA.
Thanks

It seems that this problem is unique to my system. I am hoping that one of the Mac Guru's will have at least a pointer in the right direction.
Thanks.

  • Satellite P850-30W - Fan does not run after coming back from sleep mode

    I got a Toshiba Satellite P850-30W with bios 1.90.
Sometimes the fan does not run at all after coming back from sleep mode on windows 7.
This has happened twice (maybe more times without me knowing), and Ive had the computers for a month.
Normally the fan starts running when the CPU gets over 50 celsius, and stops under 50 celisus...
I tried running Prime95 when this fan-issue occured and the computer temps got dangerously high (close to 100 degree)! the fan did not start at all
...this error could potentinally damage the laptop...
to get the fan running again I have to restart windows
    anyone else experienced this?
I guess the fix would be to never use sleep-mode...or toshiba needs to fix it with a bios update.

What kind of answer do you expect here in user community?
Exact info about the fault? I dont think that somebody would be able to provide exact answer but just speculations
In other Forum you can read about Satellite notebook; but is it exacts the same model?
No, it seems to be an L650 series. Its completely different series .
From my opinion its not software related problem.
    BIOS issue?
Well, in case it would be a BIOS issue, the problem would appear always and not sometimes after being shut down 200 times.
It could be a hardware related issue. Memory? Maybe
In my personal opinion to get more details hardware diagnostic software should be used in order check the hardware for possible malfunction. Thats my personal opinion

  • Compaq C700 - CPU fan not running after waking up from Sleep mode

    Hi guys,
Waking up from Sleep mode does not start the CPU fan.
    Kernel:  2.6.32-ARCH
    KDE : 4.4
Let me know what other details you need.

I was having the same problem after installing mountain lion.
What i did was in Finder went to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/  and deleted all the networking plists (refer screen shot). Then restarted the Mac and in Network Preferences reconnected to my WLAN.
    That solved the problem.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA Laptop - eSATA/USB combo port does not allow eSATA connection

    Hi,
I recently purchased an external HDD with eSATA connection for use with my Compaq Presario CQ61-424SA laptop.
The specification on the laptop states it has a eSATA/USB combo port however there doesn't appear to be one. On closer inspection there is 2 USB ports on the right hand side of the laptop (which work fine with USB devices) and one on the left which is slightly wider than the other 2 (which also works fine with USB devices). However when trying to connect an eSATA cable to the port it does not fit and on closer inspection it does not look like the conventional eSATA/USB combo ports.
Does anyone know if this laptop was spec'd incorrectly or does indeed have an eSATA/USB combo port.
The cable I'm using was supplied with the external HDD I brought with connections as shown in this link.. http://www.comesource.com/storeweb/images/cable%20esata%20to%20esata.jpg
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I am having the same problem with the "e-sata/usb shared port" , which does not look like a normal e-sata port, and the e-sata connector won't fit in it.

  • Final Cut Not responding after computer is in Sleep Mode

I put my computer to sleep for a few hours when I go away on a shoot. When I come back and wake the computer, final cut gives me the spinning wheel of death and is not responding. What is even more annoying is when I go to force quit the program, it doesn't quit from the task bar and the dot under the icon of final cut is still lit. Even after trying 10 force quits it still stays active. I am forced to shutdown my computer everytime and this problem happens everytime the computer goes to sleep and is woken up.
Is there a fix to this?

    Which version of FCP?
    Are you on a network?
How many drives are in your Mac?
And, if there is more than one drive, are you absolutely certain you placed your registration information on the correct drive?
The usual explanation is that FCP is trying to locate or verify the serial number (different behaviors in different versions). The drive where that info is stored is inaccessible (because the drive is not spinning and so is the same as not mounted) to FCP (which is loaded into RAM) and totally active.

  • Airport does something funny after waking up from sleep.

Ok, so I had to send my MBP in to get the hard drive replaced, because it wasnt mounting right. And now that I got it back, I've noticed that airport does something weird after the laptop falls asleep with the lid open. When I wake it back up, Airport shows the normal gray icon(like when airport is on, but doesnt have a server to connect to), but it has a black up arrow on it. When I click on it, it says something like "No server selected", and it doesnt show my wireless connection. I have to shut off Airport, which takes a little bit, then once I turn it back on, it works fine.
Here is a link to a screen shot I took: http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r157/SeniorRake/UpArrow.jpg

Well that appears to be the explanation that makes sense to me. It also explains why your internet does not work when it's like that. Because if that arrow were there, it implies that you are receiving your internet connection from a source other than airport (i.e. ethernet) and sharing that network connection to other computers in your house via airport.
Here's a picture of my airport when I turn sharing on:
as you can see from the underlying Preferences > Sharing > Internet Panel:
I have set my computer to share my "connection from" ethernet to computers "using airport."
Anyways, check up on it and let me know. I'm curious to see whether this is the issue or not. Later

  • RMBP is not responsive after waking up from sleep

Hi, I have a new 15 inch retina macbook pro (Mid 2014). I got it last week and installed any update that was available on the first day. It has the Yosemite 10.10.3 and the problem arises whenever I wake my macbook from sleep. The login screen shows up and I can enter my password but it takes a while to login and after I logged in I can click on applications in the dock or search for applications using spotlight but after clicking to open them, they won't open and the system is simply not usable anymore which forces me for a hard reset. I would like to fix the problem because it got pretty annoying already. I tried SMC and NVRAM reseting but they did not help. Does anybody knows how can I diagnose the problem? Thanks in advance

  • Power button does not respond to put phone on sleep mode

Any way to resolve or common issue

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Windows 7 Does Not Respond after it goes to sleep

We are using Windows 7 image distribution through SCCM for our entire organization. Lately, I came across this issue, now becoming more common on all
the systems. The computer won't wake up from sleep by pressing any key, if left unattended for more that 30 Mins (rather after it goes to sleep). A forced Restart is then necessary to return everything to normal.  We are using Dell Latitude E series laptops,
as a standard all throughout our organization.
Already tried lot of option like - upgrading the drivers, changing the power plans etc. However, neither of them worked. Any suggestions in this regard
    are highly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Weird Issue - Gen5 iPod will not play after waking up from sleep.

I think my 5th gen 30GB iPod is just lazy and needs a kick to get going =)
Seriously though, let's say I'm playing a song. I pause the song and then put the iPod to sleep by either selecting sleep from the menu or by holding down the play/pause button. I then proceed to slide the hold button.
When I'm ready to play again I slide the hold button back then hit the play pause. No output at all. 99% of the time when this happens the time will count down like it's supposed to be playing but there is no output. Every now and then the time doesn't progress even though the icon at the top left side of the screen says play.
I can choose other songs and it does the same thing. The only solution is to put it back to sleep and then wake it up again. Works perfect.
    Any ideas?
    Gen5 30GB   Windows XP Pro

    Hi Dick, same here.
Since about a week, I noticed this too on my 8core MacPro with attached LaCie Electron screen.
No external drives or anything else attached ( except for the keyboard and mouse ) .
It only happens when the screen is sleeping while the computer itself is still awake.
I can use the keyboard to quit open applications or eject a cd, but the screen stays black.
When the computer itself is sleeping, it does wake up normally - including the screen...
    Peter
Forgot to add: when touching the the ON button, the computer goes to sleep and if I then touch the mouse or a key, it wakes up normally.

Almost every time I wake my MacPro from sleep, Mail hangs and I have to Force Quit. I'd say this happens 99% of the time now.

Stuart, I have the exact same issue.
This seems to be a bug.

I checked the WIndows log files. It reported the following error:

  • OSX 10.9.1 macbook pro 13 retina - wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse

    Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
    Thanks

    Hello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • After update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.

    hello,
after update to OS X 10.7.5 on my Mac Pro (2009) USB ports don't work at all after wake up from sleep mode; with 10.7.4 there was (nearly) any problem.
the used ports appear to be "killed"; the unused USB ports seem to work, but the Mac works in slow-motion.
The only "solution" is to restart my Mac.
    - SMC-reset, PRAM-reset or repairing user rights had no positive effect; what is the solution - a bug-fix-update???

I have a mac mini (A1283) with OS 10.7.4. Upon upgrading to 10.7.5 it did not start up again. Instead, the light was on and the hard drive did not start up. The light on the connected USB mouse was not lit.
    My solution:
    Cold start with Command-v pressed.
This should start Verbose mode (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492 ).
What happened on my mac mini was that the grey startup screen with the Apple logo appeared for a long while before the login screen came.
Maybe Cmd-v set open firmware params and fixed some corruption.
Anyway: my mac mini works again.
