W510 Lenovo Bluetooth windows update killed USB Keyboard

Hi all,
Yesterday afternoon (14 M!R 2012) I ran a windows 7 update that included a Lenovo update. It was some kind of bluetooth thing, but I'm not really sure the exact name. Foolishly, I chose to include this in the update. When I performed the updates and restarted the machine my USB keyboard no longer works. There were 13 updates available for install. 9 of them were critical updates and 4 were optional. I installed 3 of the 4 optional and all of the critical. So when I discovered that the keyboard didn't work, I rollback the update to the last good configuration and the problem persisted. When I looked at what updates were available, 12 of the 13 were there, but the Lenovo bluetooth one wasn't on the list, leading me to believe that it didn't get rolled back.
What I've noticed is that the keyboard is recognized by windows, but I can't type anything. Furthermore, when I do type a few characters with it, after about 5 seconds I hear the "disconnected a USB device" sound. So something is definitely strange, but I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas? I really need the full sized ergo keyboard. The tiny laptop keyboard kills my hands. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I really need my big keyboard or my hands are killing me.
Thanks,
Tripp

Totally generic. I have no idea why the bluetooth update would affect it. I'm just pointing the finger there b/c that was the only update that doesn't seem to have been undone by the windows restore operation. At one point last night windows performed an update on the usb drivers, but sadly that didn't solve anything. It's bizarre because windows can see the keyboard, it just doesn't work. Windows doesn't seem to think that there's anything wrong with device and it says the drivers are up to date.

  • 3/11/15 Windows Update killed bluetooth on Thinkpad Tablet 2

So I just finished installing Windows updates from March 11 and my Bluetooth on my Thinkpad Tablet 2 is suddenly disabled.  Anyone else having this problem?
I can't access Bluetooth settings.  On the devices Control Panel, there is no Bluetooth Device under networking, but a Serial Bus device is displaying an error message.  Disabling/Enabling the device and restarting does not help.  It cannot be uninstalled, and when I try to update the driver it says there are no new drivers available.
I manually downloaded the latest BT driver from Lenovo support (it is several months old) and after it completes the re-installation/repair, there is still no BT.  It seems like the driver is simply incompatible with the newly updated Windows OS.  Let me know if you have any other ideas.  Otherwise, Lenovo should be alerted to this problem so they can fix it.
I rely on my tablet daily for work and it's a major inconvenience when it becomes disabled by a routine update.  The TPT2 is designed for use with the BT Keyboard.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Something's definitely gone wrong. I can enable Bluetooth, and can pair with my Windows Phone, but I can no longer share files from my phoine to the Tablet. That alone is a big pain in the butt.
I rarely use my bluetooth keyboard. It always had the same problem that at some random point, it woudl disconnect from the Tablet, and the only way to get it to reconnect was to cycle the Bluetooth on and off. Easier said than done when the tablet is docked. I gave up after a while, and use either a Logitech wireless keyboard or usb keyboards.
The March Rollup ironically included a fix that specifcially addressed the keyboard lock out. Apparenttly, if the PC had BT 4.0 (which ours does), and it could see other devices other than just the keyboard, then it would disconnect the keyboard, and cycling power on the keyboard would not fix the problem. The MS patch was designed to fix this specific issue. I don't recall the KB #.
That said, hopefully Lenovo will see these issues being reported, and update the drivers.

  • 6/9/11 update old usb keyboard no longer works with macbook pro

Hi I have been using my old Imac usb keyboard with my macbook pro at work since I got my macbook pro. But as of yesterday I have not been able to use it anymore.  Any suggestions to a fix or do I have to buy a newer keyboard?  I need the numbers pad to entering data.
    Any suggestions would b great.

Your message would be easier to decode if you had proofread it before posting.
Does your keyboard work when the mouse is plugged directly into the computer instead of into the keyboard, or does the keyboard not work at all? If not at all, then it sounds as though you're right in guessing that the keyboard isn't getting power for some reason (bad cable? bad connection inside the KB? USB port on computer shut down?) If the KB works when the mouse isn't plugged into it, then the mouse and KB together are demanding more power than the computer's USB port can supply, and neither is getting what it needs when the mouse is connected to the KB. In that case, plug the mouse directly into the computer to use it.
The USB port in your keyboard probably doesn't put out enough power for the mouse you are using. This is typical of older keyboards, which were designed to power old-style electromechanical mice rather than the laser mice that are commonplace today.

  • Update Killed my Keyboard?

I just performed the most recent Security Update on my iMac G5. Everything seemed okay, but then I realized I couldn't type an "m", or an "i", or any letter on the right half of the keyboard. I couldn't type my password to try and reinstall the update. More keys lost function as I looked for a solution on the web. Now only 3 keys seem to be working and they are constantly bombarding whatever has focus.
I am on my laptop now to try and desperately get some help. I tried to do the System Repair from my startup disk, but since I can't type a "C", no luck there. I tried accessing the disk to see if I could run anything that way, but again I need my password, which I obviously can't type.
Can somebody out there help me?
    Thanks ~ Kim

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks so much for the quick reply!
I have a wireless keyboard and mouse for my Mac Mini, and I was able to successfully pair them and use the keyboard with no problems.
I have one question though - wouldn't the drivers be different for the 2 keyboards? I don't want to buy a new keyboard and find I have the same problem. It just seems to coincidental that moments after I install the update that my keyboard zonks out on me! I guess stranger things have happened though.

  • Windows update killed the sound on HP Pavilion

This is a HP Pavilion g7-1261nr Notebook PC.  We were watching a video last week with the sound through the system speaker.  The show was interrupted for a microsoft update.  The updates installed, and laptop rebooted.  When it started up again, the unit had no sound.  I have rolled back the update and reinstalled.  No changes.  Updated the bios again and again, no change.
Windows has no answers.  Any ideas?

    > Hi:

    > I don't quite understand by your post regarding "rolling back the update and reinstalled."

    > Do you mean you reinstalled the audio driver, or reinstalled the update?
Thanks, Paul.  I rolled back and reinstalled the Windows update.
    > If you didn't reinstall the audio driver from your notebook's support and driver page, try that.

OK, now I have don that and still no sound.  Not even the annoying system sounds from Windows.  The speaker tray still has a red X, and when I click on it, "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem,"
No change.  Any other suggestions, please.

  • P35 Platinum - Intel INF Update kills USB ports?

    Hi All,
I've just built a new system and when I ran the Intel INF Update from the driver cd that came with the motherboard it seemed to update everything fine, but when it re-booted the usb ports weren't working in Windows. Unfortunately both my keyboard and mouse are usb so I had no option but to re-install windows again (which wasn't such a big issue because I hadn't installed anything else yet). Should I bother trying to update them again from the latest versions online? Or as everything seems to be working fine as it is, should I just leave them be?

Hello, you need to wait a bit the USB devices to be re-detected.(just wait 1 min after you logon in windows).
If the drivers really broke the USB ports, reboot PC hit "F8" just after BIOS post(before OS booting) and choice "Last good known Configuration" from there. It will restore provisional working state.

  • 10.5.6 Update breaks USB Keyboard causes iPod Battery Drain when sleeping.

I just recently installed 10.5.6 via automatic updates. I normally connect my iPod touch to my iMac via the keyboard Left USB port. I put my computer asleep at night. When I wake up my iMac in the morning my iPod is totally drained of its power over night. When I placed the iMac asleep in the evening the iPod battery was full. It seems the update broke the USB ports on the keyboard. To test this theory I tested keyboard on all three ports on the iMac by moving my keyboard connection. The iPod touch drained connected to the keyboard on all three ports. If I place my iPod on the USB port by itself it does not happen. It only happens when it is connected to the keyboard.
So far I have downloaded the full install of 10.5.6 and installed it. I also did the little voodoo of fixing permissions but still the same results. If I use the USB port on my keyboard my iPod will drain of all of its power in 6 to 8 hours when I place my computer a sleep. If I connect my iPod directly to USB port and put my computer asleep the iPod does not loose power and will be charged in the morning.
Not only does the keyboard not charge the iPod when it sleeps it drains the power from the iPod.
This did not happen before my update to 10.5.6.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is this happening to anyone else?
    Thank you for your help.

I opened a service call with Apple on this keyboard problem. I was shipped a new keyboard, reverted my computer to 10.5.5, went to the apple store to work with a Genius and worked with online support. Finally after weeks of going back and forth I received and answer from Apple Engineers. It seems the engineers “verified that the behavior for power handling has been changed” in 10.5.6. “resulting in the issue you've been reporting”. They also now “verified that the issue your reporting is correct behavior under this improved handling system”. They suggest to plug devices directly into the USB port when my iPod Touch is directly attached to my computer. I think I will just have to get a USB hub. It is a shame Apple had to waist money sending me a new keyboard. It is also a shame I had to revert my iMac to a 10.5.5 before the engineers took the time to look at the problem I was having. If the send level support engineers took the time to look into the problem the call could have been solved in 24 hours.

  • Nokia 920 Windows update killed my phone

I woke to the phone wanting to update Windows, been a Sunday morning I proceeded. After eventually completing the update the phone says its in flight mode, if I take it out of flight mode it locks up !, i do have at least WiFi access. If i go to phone or text it bounces back to the home screen. Any application that will run locks the phone and I need to do a 3 finger reset to get it back.

  • Windows Update not working on rebuilt RAID1 on Larger Drives -

Recovered an image from 320 gig drives to 500 gig drives.  Everything worked fine except both Lenovo and Windows Updates did not work.  Subsequently noticed that this was also true on the 320s and it happened a day or two before I imaged it (them).  Downloaded and installed the latest Lenovo System Update application and that cured both problems on the 320s but only cured the Lenovo updates problem on the 500s.  I've tried a few things written on the web and also tried to let the Windows online validation tool run but I've tried it twice but it doesn't end.  The last time it ran for over 1.5 hours without any resolution.  It just keeps spinning.
This is actually another opportunity generated from what I was doing in the post "How to Migrate a Raid1 to larger drives without having to rebuild on a W700?" but this seems like a different, though related, subject so I started a new post.  If someone thinks it best to combine them please do.

This got installed for me on 8/13, without me noticing (would have scared the heck out of me if I had noticed --- trashed my T61p on a Bluetooth "upgrade" a while back).
Device Manager shows version 6.5.0.1455, July 20, 2011.
No problems noted, but I'm not a heavy BT user.  My hard drive is still intact, though.

  • Lenovo Yoga Windows 8.1 Update Solution Thread

Before you attempt anything, I would suggest you read it first . This is probably not a conclusive guide for everyone's situation.
I updated to Windows 8.1 about a couple of hours ago and it's screwed up everything. I noticed users on this forum having a load of problems too so here's my 'roughish' guide on resololving all the issues that affected me (Lenovo Yoga 13 (2191))
Lenovo have release some official upgrade literature (incl rough solutions)
    http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/windows8-1/upgrade/ideapad/index_en.html
You are going to need to download new drivers and reinstall a few apps.
Windows 8 Drivers (Back them up - Do not delete them)
This is what I've done. All of your drivers will be stored in c:\Drivers if you haven't got a custom installation. I would move everything in there into a new folder (C:\Drivers\Windows 8) so you have a historical backup because the Windows 8.1 may not upgrade them all.
    Windows 8.1 Drivers
    Go here;
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/
Click Drivers & Software and search Yoga. This link should take you directly there but they never seem to post right on forums so...
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_GB/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032590
Change the filter to show Windows 8.1 as the OS. Download everything it displays and save it in a new folder (C:\Drivers\Windows 8.1).
Now you have all the new drivers ready to install. Go into your C:\Drivers\Windows 8.1 folder and install each thing in the list on by one. If they request a reboot I would suggest you do that before progressing onto another driver. Do this until everything is installed.
    At the time of writing the drivers include;
Bluetooth/Wlan, Camera, Card Reader, Chipset (Important), Management engine, Alscontrol, Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework & Graphics.
    WARNING:
Updating Wifi  drivers it may reset your settings (lose network passwords etc) so you may need to get your wifi pass to hand or skip this driver if you have no problems.
    Graphics
My graphics went blurry. This was due to the HD graphics driver. This is in this pack. This fixed it for me, but in case it doesn't totally fix your problem, there is a suggestion to change a setting if problems persist of your graphics (Thanks Ezekial)
    1. Right-click on Desktop and select "Screen resolution" option.
    2. Now click on "Make text and other items larger or smaller" link.
    3. It'll open "Display" settings page. You can also directly open "Display" window by selecting "Personalize" option from Desktop context menu and then click on "Display" link given at the bottom of left-sidebar.
    4. Now enable "Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays" option and apply the changes.
    5. Restart your system and your problem will be fixed.
    Trackpad
If you have a problem where you lose your trackpad like I did, you can uninstall in that device manager but I would suggest you are careful in there. You can then click actions, and scan for hardware changes.
    Get to Device manager this way;
Right click My Computer/This Computer and click manage. Down the left side look for Device Manager.
When updating the drivers (anything with an exclamation mark) you should right click and update drivers. Search in your new folder. If you installed all the above drivers you may have nothing here.
    Airplane Mode Hotkey/Function
To fix the problem with the AirPlane mode not working you will need to go back to the above downloads page and change the filter to Windows 8 and look in Power Management. You will need that. I had to run it with Windows 8 compatibility and Run as administrator.
    Lenovo Transition/Auto-Rotate/Keyboard Disabler
    Download this;
    http://driverdl.lenovo.com.cn/lenovo/DriverFilesUploadFloder/36071/Win8_lenovo_transition_x64.exe
    (Thanks to the other th3is & mikey94025)
    Uninstall Lenovo Tranisition.
    Reboot.
Reinstall the downloaded version. If it fails at the end, reboot. If it's still sketchy uninstall, reboot and install again but with Windows 8 compatibility. Hopefully you won't need to do that though.
    Sound
This was broken. Drivers haven't been updated so in device manage update from your "C:\Drivers\(Windows 8)" folder
    Bluetooth
I haven't tested my bluetooth yet, but if your's is broken the drivers are in your "C:\Drivers\(Windows 8.1)"  folder if you downloaded the drivers linked above..
    Others
Citrix Receiver (I wouldn't expect this to affect the majority of you)
My desktop version of this broke. Maybe my custom installation, but a reinstall with the same commands fixed this.
    Windows Update
I would suggest you enable this and make sure you are up-to-date. Swipe in from the right and search for update. Find Windows Update.
I would also update other apps & drivers (link on that page to download an update to enable this.
I don't seem to have any other problems. The support page Is not all completely relevant IMO and it has some drastic views on what you should do to upgrade. Just take note that McAffe may have also broken, so be careful on the net as you may be unprotected.
You may want to run through Device manager on anything you are still having problems with. Also depending on the age of your yoga there may still be other things you could update, but unless you have a problem, I wouldn't really worry too much.
Windows 8.1 also no longer pins your apps to the start page by default. Now just swipe up from the bottom to find your apps if you want to pin them or just search for them (swipe in from the right)
Good luck!!! Sorry if I missed anything.

Can you be more specific with the below, as I can't make sense of what you're referring to?  I don't know what element size is at all, or where to change it.  And, I don't know what you mean by unchecking a checkbox in the device manager as there are no checkboxes.  More guidance and specifics would be appreciated.
    * Change the element size back to recover from blurry text
    * Go to device manager and uncheck that checkbox for the first of the USB devices in HID so that the touchscreen does always react on the first touch (this setting has been lost during the update process)

  • Lenovo USB keyboard - Trackpoint/Touchpas not working

I am now experiencing the same problem in Win7 as I barely got away with in Vista.
    The problem is as follows:
    - I have the Lenovo USB keyboard with built in Trackpoint and Touchpad (wonderful).
    - When I installed this keyboard in Vista it worked out of the box, but in Windows Update I got a recommended update for newer/better drivers.
    - When I installed this driver, the Trackpoint and Touchpad stoppet working - so I had to restore my system and hide these updates in Windows Update.
    - So when I install Win7 RTM these drivers seems to install with the system, and therefore the Trackpoint and Touchpad on my external keyboerd does NOT work out of the box. I do not get any updates for this either.
    Tried solutions:
    - I have tried to install the keyboerd drivers.
    - The driver with Hotkeys installs alright, but does not solve the problem.
    - The regular keyboard driver will not install, because it says that I there is a newer Synaptics-driver which has to be removed first.
    - Well, there are no installed Synaptics-drivers to be removed - probably because these drivers are installed with the system.
    - I have also tried to diable the PS/2 driver etc. but nothing works.
--> So, I am actually stuck with my wonderful external Lenovo USB keyboard without being able to use the Trackpoint or Touchpad. The worst although is that I know whats making the problem, but do not know how to solve it...
Can anybode please help, I cannot believe I am the only one having this problem (in Vista or in Win7).
    Henrik

I have a USB Travel Keyboard with UltraNav. I am not sure if it is the same as yours. But I have used the following two drivers (for Vista) and the keyboard has been working fine under Vista. Recently I upgraded to Windows 7. The vista driver seems still working fine.
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66917
One issue I found is that I cannot run the setup.exe to get the keyboard driver installed, it will claim something like OS specific program not found. But if you go inside the folder to find dpinst.exe, run it and you are good to go.
And this link for all possible drivers.

  • Windows updates for Lenovo? what is it?

    Hi,
I have just found some Windows updates in the section "Drivers and Software" for x230.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT073834
    section: Windows Update
    for example
    Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) Update Module KB2482122
    Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) Update Module KB2615763
I have checked in my windows 7 Installed Updates - I do not have these updates installed.
My WIndows is reporting that it UP TO DATE.
So, what do mean these updates? Should they be installed?

    Hello,
These are hotfixes for the operating system released by Microsoft.  Not every hotfix released by Microsoft is distributed through Microsoft Update.  Sometimes, it is an issue which only affects a small fraction of computers out there, an issue may only occur in rare circumstances, and so forth. Here are the actual articles from Microsoft's support site:
Microsoft Knowledgebase Article #2482122, "0x0000009F" Stop error when you restart a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer ...
Microsoft Knowledgebase Article #/2615763, "0x000000D1" Stop error when you connect a USB composite device to a computer that is running Window...
From reading their descriptions, plus the fact that you saw them listed on Lenovo's web site, makes me think that your model's installation of Microsoft Windows may be susceptible to the described problems.
You can try downloading the files and installing them.  If a problem occurs, you can uninstall the hotfix, or use System Restore to revert the computer to an earlier state before the hotfixes were installed.

    Go to Solution.

    hi Libra,
These updates that you posted are optional for your machine as these are driver updates. If you're not experiencing issues with these components, you don't have to update them but they are safe to install (make sure you create a system restore point just in case you need to revert back the changes)
The Intel Management Engine Interface can be found under the Chipset Section and the Graphics Adapter can be found under the Video Section on the lenovo support site. The Logitech input device is probably for your Logitech usb device (can be a mouse, camera, keyboard, etc.).
    Hope this helps
