W510 - Radio switch set to On, Fn+F5 claims it is Off

Hi all,
I've acquired a W510 and got it all set up on W7 x64 Pro. I had to transfer ~30GB of files from my other laptop and so I turned off the WiFi using the HW switch on the left side to carry out the transfer using a Crossover cable. Once the transfer was done, I turned the switch back to On and found that the WiFi would not reconnect, the taskbar showed a Wireless icon with a red x, not the usual connected icon or the star meaning networks available. Pressing Fn+F5 brought up the error saying the HW switch is currently turned off, which it wasn't.
The Card is seen in Windows and the BIOS, Windows is set NOT to control power to the device. I have uninstalled, deleted and reinstalled the drivers for WiFi from Intel's website - no deal.
Does it sound as though the HW switch is broken? It still "clicks" when I toggle it, but there is no WiFi light on the front to indicate it is "On". I noticed the WWAN LED on the front of the screen flashes when the laptop powers on, though the WLAN does not.
Coming from an R61i which has been solid in terms of reliability I was not expecting this at all, if indeed the switch is broken.
Any advice is appreciated.

I have a recurring problem where my screen (built in or external monitor/projector) will just go blank at random times. It is an unrecoverable situation and I have to do a hard power reset to get working again.
After testing several theories without success I struck upon one that showed promise. The blanking tended to occur when I was in Lion Fullscreen mode, or using a gesture to start expose - so I figured maybe it was a graphics switching issue.
So I went into System Preferences and disabled 'Automatic graphics switching'. I then ran trouble free for several days (I was typically crashing 1-2 times a day)
Then several days later it happened again and I thought I was back to square one. However, a colleague suggested I check the graphic switching setting to see if something had changed it back, and sure enough it was re-enabled.
Now I find myself in a constant battle with the system to keep disabling the 'Automatic graphics switrhing' in System Preferences.
I have tried setting it and locking it, but sooner or later it reverts.
I need to know if it is possible to force it to stay disabled.

Oddly enough, since typing my original question this morning (local time) and installing this little utility this afternoon, the setting had once more reverted to 'enabled' - when I selected discrete in the app it crashed my macbook again, but slightly differently from before in that I got a blue screen (felt like windows again ) rather than a blank powered off one.
Anyway, I have restarted now, and set it again - I'll stick with it for a few days and return with likes/+1/stars etc if it all pans out.

T420 wireless radio switch is ON but software insists it is off

My machine can't find my wireless network. When I run the troubleshooting it says "wireless radio switch must be turned on" and shows me a little diagram of the switch.
It always has been on, I never turn it off. I switched it on and off, then restarted, same error. I swear the mechanical switch is on, but the computer insists it isn't.

I’m sorry to hear that Wifi is not working on ThinkPad T420.
Please check if there is any yellow mark in any of the adapter in Device Manager.
Check with enabling Wifi with pressing Fn+F5 keys, on the keyboard.
If the issue still persist then I suggest you to download and install below mention drivers to resolve the issue.

MSI GT70 0ND Radio Switch problem

I know that there were other topics here asking about the problem of this device, but none of those topics gave me a valid answer on my question. While I'm running an online game it starts to lag and twitch hardly, can this Unknown device affect games like that? Can it do something to my internet connection? I have downgraded Win 8 to Win 7Pro and I'm afraid this device which is only for Win 8 can has bad effect on games, can anyone tell me if it's the device problem or it's impossible? 0.0

That's impossible as radio switch is just for bluetooth to work in Win8. For Win7 it is just useless stuff not doing any harm.

Satellite 1135-S1552 Radio Switch Problem

I need to know how to Enable my Radio Switch.
I have installed an Intel 2200 WiFi mini-PCI card into my laptop, and all the drivers hardware are recognized by the computer.
There is a switch on the Left-Side of the laptop that is for the Radio Switch, but is function-less. Turning it ON, or OFF, does NOTHING. There is not LED lights that lights up when it is ON.
Also, in the Device Manager, I am able to open the Properties for my Intel 2200, and in the Advanced Tab there is an option to Disable/Enable the Radeo Switch, but when I click on it, it says, "This will only take effect if the Adapter's Power Button has been switched ON."
HOW DO I SWITCH THE ADAPTER ON????

I have the same problem with a Sat.2430 over here....
The card is correctly installed and gets recognized by the OS (WinXP and Linux), the 2 antennacables are connected and don't hang lose. But I am not able to switch it on... LED is quiet....
Its an original Toshiba IntelPW2100 3B card
Any further suggestions? Thx in advance

Radio Switch Device

What is the purpose of the Radio Switch Device?
I found it under "Human Interface Devices" in Task Manager, after installing the drivers from MSI's website.
From googling it seems like it's something to do with wireless connections, but we already have the Wireless Network Adapter so I'm confused.

On further investigation into system hardware I've found that the Radio Switch Device isn't working.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the device drivers but still nothing.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if this is a hardware issue rather than software? If so whats the process for getting a laptop fixed through MSI?

hi, sorry to bring back and old topic, but what was the result of this?. Was a hardware fail or just software?
I'm worried because a have the same issue but I noticed this problem after several days after I installed a lot of software I need for work. So, I assumed was a software problem and I planned to fresh reset when I upgrade to SSD raid later.
After like 2 or 3 months I updated to SSD and had a fresh recovery but this problem continues. I remember had an same issue in another notebook before and with a bios update was fixed, so I updated my bios with the official on MSI web but this didn't fix it, just put a lot more options on bios only.
I don't have windows 8.1 CD to fresh install, so I want to know if this was a hardware or software problems, because if it is a software fails I can buy a CD to fresh install on the future. This because I only spend 3 seconds to boot and shutdown cycle to just start in another 2 seconds with SSD raid, so not much time and the notebook works really fast on all: intensive matlab and games (like CS, Aion, etc. with over 60 fps and for hours).
I tested several combinations and didn't work, even I let it over night after 1 cycle of boot-fail and the next works to boot even several hours later and with and without the supply adapter connected. Just because of this I presume a software issue but not sure at all.

Are you using a new 802.11ac Time Capsule - the "tall" one - and are you still using Mac OS X 10.6.8?
You need OS X 10.7.5 "Lion" or later, or an iOS device, to configure an 802.11ac Time Capsule:

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.

This was not a Firefox update, but a piece of malicious software you have inadvertently downloaded from a site called http://ffftp.co.cc/ which is impersonating Firefox. I discovered this as soon as my Zonealarm requested permission for "Golds" to access the internet. Golds??!! However I couldn't find a file with this name installed on my computer.
You should delete the file you downloaded and certainly do not allow internet access to any suspicious program. If you have already given permission, scan your PC immediately for any virus, malware, etc. Best of luck.

Control wireless radio switch (Fn + F5) via Windows Registry / software

In a school environment, the students have discovered they can cause trouble by using the Fn+F5 software switch to disable the Wifi radio. I know the hardware LED goes off when this happens, but the teachers are too busy to identify this. The result is that users cannot login, and the Windows Welcome screen is not intuitive enough giving an error message "There are currently no logon servers available".
I'm interested in applying a "fix" for this issue on startup. Possibly a Windows Registry fix, to "force" the Lenovo software switch to turn Wifi on.
I've had a poke around with a registry comparison between off and on states, and am currently getting the following diff (amongst other changes, such as DHCP etc):

Problem using buttons to switch sets

I just want to do the simple thing of using the set buttons to switch up and down between sets but its proving infuriating. Lets say i have 4 sets….and i want to just cycle up and down them….i assign the set up button to previous set and set down button to next set…..but it doesn't work…or sometimes just jumps between set one and set four ignoring the sets in-between. Anyone know what the deal is?

Think I've figured it out. I had 4 sets with no patches (don't need to switch patches)…..when i added a patch to each set it would switch between them using the buttons.
