W510 Remove keyboard to install Ram

I have removed the two short screws for the back side Ram cover and the two 14mm screws as described by Lenovo document.
It now says to push down on the keyboard toward the rear of the keyboard until the front edge disengages.
Where have you pushed and with how much pressure?
I have pushed down and back with moderate pressure with one thumb at F7 and F8 key area without any results.
Any advice and tricks for this step are appreciated.

Got it myself - It is more of a push horitzontally, and while the front side of keyboard does disengage, I would not describe it as Lenovo does; it simply disengages but does not tilt upward.

  • Cannot remove door to install RAM on new laptop

I just bought a Pavilion g7 - 1365dx. I am trying to remove the door to install RAM I bought. I unscrewed the two screws and removed the battery but the door will not come off. I tried very light prying with no luck. any more and it might break the plastic.
    Any suggestions??

    Hi,
Do you use this book ? Very simple, on some old models you have to remove the keyboard.

  • Gap at top of W530 keyboard after installing RAM?

Hey I installed some Corsair Ram in slot 1 and 2 underneath the keyboard and after reinstalling the keyboard Ive noticed theres a gap at the top of the keyboard where it slots into the computer the whole way across specifically in the middle where theres alot of flex. The plastic which has the power and volume buttons seems to move around when pressed. This seems to be letting in dust and would especially allow a spill to enter the machine. This doesn't seem normal for a well built machine and have I installed the keyboard wrong? Any advice/opinions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

This is actually normal. I have this gaping gap in 3 of my own W530, and 4 of the W530 at work also have this.

  • Flex 2 14" Do I really need remove keybord for upgrading RAM

    Hi all,
I just want to know if I really have to remove the keyboard for installing a 2nd DIMM of RAM. I read the HMM but it doesn´t make sense for me.
Can anybody confirm that it is really absolutely necessary?

    Hi Patrick,
I don't have one of these, but the HMM seems pretty clear.  In order to remove the 1030 Hard disk drive(HDD)/Memory/Mini PCI Express Card slot compartment cover (the "back") you have to remove some screws that are under the keyboard in addition to those on the bottom.
The HMM also indicates two memory slots.

  • Company to install RAM, Los Angeles, CA

    hi
I'd like to have a company install RAM in my two iBook G4s. I live in Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley. Any ideas of reputable companies/individuals is appreciated.
    Chuck S

Almost any reseller with a repair department, who claims to
be able to do authorized Apple portable computer work,
should be able to install the RAM; it is not hard to do.
{The info provided through links below should allow you to
upgrade both machines by yourself; and a link to where I
bought Apple certified RAM (from california) follows. It is
    not the least expensive, it is original equipment quality.}
And if you buy RAM from some retail places, they can
probably do the task for an additional fee; simple or not.
You can do the work yourself by looking at the following
page link's download do-it-yourself .pdf document pages
and see how to remove the keyboard (& replace it) in one
and also how to add RAM to the upgrade slot beneath it.
Depending on the exact iBook model you have, the details
may vary; some have a place for (and have/not have) an
AirPort wireless card in a location beneath the keyboard,
    and others do not even have a place for that card in there;
since the last model iBook G4 mid-2005 series has a wi-fi
    component on the logicboard, instead.
There is a small bit of plastic on the keyboard among the
top row of keys and this has a tiny screw in it; a standard
chisel-point screwdriver is used to rotate the screw only
a small distance to unlock the plastic tab so the keyboard
may be flopped over (wires still attached) to gain access.
Two other tiny tabs among the top row are spring loaded
pressure sensitive locks to hold the keyboard in.
The keyboard will tip out away from the display and toward
the palmrests. Do so carefully. Also you may touch the metal
inside there beneath the keyboard to ground yourself prior
to installing the RAM; and be sure to not touch the RAM chips
on their metallic contact sides, because this may short them.
See the pages here and download/read them. You can do it.
Apple Support Manuals - iBook (.pdf downloads)
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ibook
    If you have the mid-2005 iBook G4 12" 1.33GHz or 14" 1.42,
the first item should have the info on the keyboard/RAM in it.
If not, the other items on the download page should suffice.
And if you can't get the keyboard to unlock (it may have been
already and subsequent efforts may have locked it) you could
ask someone at an authorized service provider, maybe over
the phone or in person, which way the screw turns to unlock it.
I have forgotten this, and when I bought upgrade RAM for my
iBook G4, it was under warranty, so I took it to an authorized
reseller and asked why I could not open the keyboard to see
what kind of RAM fit in there, & someone there opened it, free.
At first a clerk tried to pry the keyboard open with a lever thing
and I said, the computer is under warranty and if the screw
thing is already defective, I'd want to know before it's opened.
So the clerk took it to a tech who knew the correct size driver &
how to turn the lock screw the correct direction; it was undamaged.
One of those inexpensive small screwdrivers or sets could be used.
There should be no pressure or torque required since this is weak.
A fair place to buy RAM in the LA area, and does a reasonably good
business outside of the region, is OEMPC-World. The RAM I bought
from them (by first class mail) is this Samsung LH 1024MB chip here:
    http://www.oempcworld.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1.0G-S O2700LH-Samsung
Hopefully this helps, as it should be relatively easy with DIY instructions.
    Good luck & happy computing!
    {edited: to add info on iBook DIY & CA source for RAM}

  • Installing RAM, Mid-2012 Macbook Pro?

Can a user or owner install RAM, Mid-2012 Macbook Pro?
Is it a straightforward process? I've installed RAM into DT macs..and into a "Pismo" era powerbook.
    thank you

"is a Spudger absolutely necessary to remove that plug,"
Battery plug? No you can just  use your fingernails. I actually use a #3 Master Airscrew nylon propellor from the hobby shop, cut in half and wrapped w/ self fusing electrical tape. I have about 6 of them and half are pretty worn out.
"are there any screws or other parts which might wish to fly out and away as a person opens the case and gets at this task?"
No it's just the way the bottom fits on to the MBP. You fit it in the back (near the vent) first, then pull it forward and into place.
The other thing is the screws are different lengths in the bottom so just keep track of where they belong. If you don't force anything you won't get into trouble because it's fairly obvious if you have the wrong screw in the wrong place. If you're doing a super pro job you would add a tiny dot of blue "Thread Loc" to the tip of the screw when you put it back.

  • Installing ram boot loop

I got recently 16 gb of ram and I installed 12 gb fine in DIMM 2,3,4 but when I put ram in DIMM slot 1 then no display comes on and pc is in boot loop And if i remove from DIMM 2 ram and put in DIMM 1 then the pc boots fine with only 3 sticks of ram. All rams are good and all slots are fine aswell No issiues in ram slots nor the ram. So how do I get the bios to recognize and boot my pc with 4 sticks of ram ? EDIT: Basically what im saying is i cant use 4 ram sticks but only 3 if i put fourth one in then the pc will go in boot loop with no display

  • 8.00 GB of installed RAM/MEMORY but only 3.99 GB "usable"

    Here is my system:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    CPU: Intel i5 750 @ 2.67Ghz
    Motherboard: MSI P55 GD65
    Ram: G.Skill 4x 2gb 240-Pin DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) dual channel memory (8gb total)
BIOS shows 8gb of installed RAM, Task Manager shows 8gb installed RAM, Resource Manager shows 8gb installed RAM. Right-clicking My Computer > Properties shows "Installed Memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (3.99 GB usable)"
With all the research and other forums posts I found, I have:
    - Tested all 4 ram sticks individually (before the G.Skill I had the same problem with 2 Kingston sticks)
    - Unchecked maximum memory in msconfig.exe > BOOT > ADVANCED
    - Updated BIOS to latest version (1.11 a.k.a 1.B0)
    - Loaded BIOS optimized defaults
    - Cleared CMOS and loaded optimized defaults again
    - Tested memory with Windows Memory Diagnostics tool with no errors
    - Removed CPU to check socket for bent pins...no bent pins...reseated CPU
    I have not:
Enabled "Memory Remapping" in BIOS because I do not have that option available in BIOS
I did read this post about G.Skill ram: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=178019.0 and checked by ram settings and they are automatically already at the 9-9-9-24 timings, 1T command rate.
Yikes! What else is a man to do?

    OK.
Perform the following tests with 2 memory modules (4GB RAM):
    1)
1.a) use the slots 1 & 2 (those close to the CPU).
Check out the usable system memory
    1.b) use the slots 1 & 3
Check out the usable system memory
    2) msconfig.exe / Boot / Advanced
2.a) set the max memory to 4096MB and reboot
Check out the usable system memory
2.b) unset (uncheck) the max memory setting and reboot.
Check out the usable system memory
    3) use the same 2 memory modules (4GB), access the BIOS and make them run at 1066MHz (7-7-7-20 at 1.50...1.55V)
If all the above don't fix the issue, post a screenshot of the memory mapping (System Information / Hardware Resources / Memory)
    Good luck.
Alright, RemusM...got some new developments here. Thanks for sticking with me....
    1)
1.a) Slots 1 & 2 (single channel mode): 4gb installed, 4 gb read and usable by OS
1.b) Slots 1 & 3 (dual channel mode): 4 gb installed, 4gb read but only 1.99 usable by OS
I stopped there and did some more slot tests...and I stand corrected from my earlier comments (I had written down that each stick worked in each slot, individually, but these notes are from 5 years ago...so...however):
With only 1 stick installed (2gb), starting closest to CPU:
    - Slot 2 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 1 (black plastic slot): PC starts, 2gb read and usable by BIOS and OS
    - Slot 4 (blue plastic slot): PC will not start, motherboard beeps 3 long beeps (ram error, from what I Googled)
    - Slot 3 (black plastic slot): PC attempts to start (3 times, fans and lights start and then stop) and then it hangs (with fans and lights on but does not start)
Would I be right to assume my Slot 3 has been the problem all along? Or is the motherboard supposed to only start with 1 stick of ram in slot #1?
Also of note: since I first built this computer it has always took 3 attempted starts (fans and lights go and stop) to finally fire up (I know, I should have realized this red flag sooner and probably mentioned it).
Also of note: with 3 sticks installed - in slot 2,1,3 - the system reads all 6gb but only 3.99 usable by the OS again. Indicating, I would think, that only slot 2 and 1 are being used.

  • I can't remove keyboards after Emoji App

I'm having trouble with removing keyboards and I can't access some of the keys of the keyboard. If I go to Settings>>General>>Keyboard>>Keyboards.  I can add keyboards and have now added like 10 of them but I can't delete them.  I click on Edit and the red minus circle comes up but I can't select it.  It is like the left part of my screen doesn't work and the bottom part of my screen doesn't work.
Also if I go to text, I can't click on the 123.  I believe this has something to do with the Emoji app that I installed but I can't seem to get rid of it now.

When viewing your activated keyboards, instead of tapping "edit" you should try swiping to the right or left on the keyboard you wish to remove. this will give you a 'delete' option on the opposite site of the screen and will allow you to remove it that way as well.
Also, the emoji app you installed shoul have no effect on the Apple keyboard itself. Though, if its causing issues, you may want to remove it from your phone as well. Some of the emoji apps are poorly designed.
    Hope this helps!

  • Problems with newly installed RAM

    Please help!
At first, my IMac 2008 wouldn't start...  It was showing grey screen and beeping 3 times in a row.  So I ordered new RAMs (4 GB matching pair) instead of my old 1 GB.  After 'playing' with correct positioning for (seemingly) hours nothing was happening at all.  Then I put back the old memory in along with 1 new one in the other slot and the computer finally turned on.  I went to check if IMac recognized the new memory and it did showing 3 GB of it instead of the 1 GB I originally had.  Anyway, it convinced me that the problem is not in the new RAMs I purchased.  To make the long story short: my IMac worked for about 15 min. and froze again.  I had to turn it off manually.  After that I was back to square one.  When I put old memory in - I get grey screen with 3 beeps.  When I put either one or both new RAMs in - nothing happens.  It was my first time swapping the RAMs so I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or if it's me at all.  I'd appreciate any help anybody could provide.  Thanks in advance!!!

Hi artnsus, I will make this simple for you. I bought 16 gigs of ram from OWC. One stick went bad in a matter of a few days. The grey screen and 3 dong sounds is a a bad stick. The other guy is right, Apple computers are very picky about their ram. I ended up with a kernel panic as well. That's was real fun! Let me say that again. That was not fun! So, here is exactly what OWC emailed me and said I should do after I install ram in my Mac,
Gently clean the memory contacts with a soft pencil eraser and make sure you seat them properly into the slots.
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM (should be done any time you alter the ram configuration)
       1.    Shut down the computer (should already be off from install)
       2.    Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
       3.    Turn on the computer.
       4.    Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
       5.    Hold the keys down until you hear the startup sound ("bong") for the third time.
       6.    Release the keys.
Let me say this, nowhere in Apple's Instuctions of adding or replacing ram does it say anything like this needs to be done! I don't really get this and to be honest I don't trust buying ram from OWC. Oh, let me also say this. OWC also said that my iMac could take up to 32 gigs of ram while Apple specifies only 16. They say they do testing but they failed my test and honestly I don't see myself doing much business with them again. That's not to say they are to a good company, I just don't think I want to by ram from them again.

  • Installing RAM -- how to?

I've installed RAM on a PC, but never on a Mac.
I'm thinking about buying the new 24" iMac with 2 GB installed and want to go to 4. Would appreciate advice on best RAM to buy and how to install.

http://newegg.com has a wide selection of vendors and good prices; when
you see a good price, also check the manfacturer's web site -- in a volatile
market like RAM, you'll often see substantial differences on the same item.
Crucial and Mushkin currently have some of the most competitive prices for
iMac-compatible 2GB sticks -- but 2GB prices are falling rapidly, and the
price leader can change from day to day. Here are two of today's best deals:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148087
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146701
The second link is for Mushkin's "PerfectMatch for Apple" product -- some
folks are more comfortable with system-specific memory and are willing to
pay a small premium for the 'warm fuzzy feeling' it brings them.
Installation is an easy 15-minute task -- remove a small metal cover on the
bottom edge of the iMac, pop out the old module(s) and pop in the new.

  • Would VMWare ESX(i) run on on a W510 (i7 920 with 16gb ram)?

    Hi all,
A tough question perhaps though perhaps something useful to know for quite some users:
    Would VMWare ESX(i) run on on a W510 (i7 920 with 16gb ram)?

I see no clue why it wouldn't. I used to have ESXi installed on VMware Workstation on my W510 i7-920 with 16GB RAM. I have yet to find a spare hard drive to install ESXi on bare metal.

I'm not sure if the error message is related but smart friend was using my computer started deleting Quicktime & Safari and told me that they shouldn't be on my computer as they are not windows product & I can't use them on my laptop. With trepidation but acknowledging I don't know any of the stuff they were talking about, I allowed them to raid my laptop thinking it could be for the best. Now I'm not sure if it is related or not but depsite me having the most recent Itunes updates on both my Ipod 4TH GT, I am getting the following message everytime I connect my Ipod to the computer...and the timing would be about right too:
this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the Itunes installer to remove Itunes, then install the 64-bit version of Itunes.
If it helps I am running the 10.7.0.21 on the Sony Vaio & remember checking last week I do have the latest update on the Ipod but it is a different version from the Itunes on the laptop (which may be normal, I wouldn't know) but as I am away from home & Wifi I can't tell u the version on that though.
My problem is I cannot find an apple installer on the laptop to uninstall & I have searched Apple & Google for help and have seen others posts with the same issue but alot of the answers unfortunately I can't follow. I would greatly appreciate it if you can you answer any of these questions for me?
*Will add & remove totally uninstall Itunes so that I can reinstall?
*Will I lose my apps, music & data?
*If the apps, music & data is recoverable, how do I do that?
Sadly I can't find the installer & would love to add my new Mumford & Sons cd to my Ipod collection but don't know how to fix this. I love my Ipod & google but I have spent hours tryign updates, downloads, searches & feedback to Apple. A few months ago I had an Itunes billing problem & there was a webpage where you could email an apple support worker & rhe replied to my credit card problem within a day or 2 but I can't find that help for this problem..I couldn't express my graditude enough if you could help me with this, but thank you.

This "smart friend" really sounds like a collosal moron.
Follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925  to remove and reinstall all Apple products on your computer.
Once you get everything working, the next time your "smart friend" wants to touch your computer, tell them firmly NOT A CHANCE IN ****!
None of your data (media, podcasts, apps) will be affected by removing and reinstalling iTunes.

This iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes
I keep getting the above error everytime I plug in my iphone.
I am not daft, I do have the 64bit version of iTunes installed already. When I installed itunes 10.5 and more recently 10.5.1 I got an error message that rolls back a section of the installation (The updater I think) before finishing off installing iTunes.
After the installation iTunes will work normally apart from when I try to connect a device. At which point I get the title error message and I can not sync my phone.
It's probably down to Itunes not installing properly however no matter what I try I can not sort the problem out. I've tried uninstalling all apple programmes followed by a registry clean, then reinstall. I've tried the same again but in a specific order. I've tried repairing iTunes, repairing the updater etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas.
Has anybody had this problem? Please can somebody tell me how to fix it!
Getting an iPad this Christmas and if I can't sync that up to my PC I may just have to go over to ANDROID!!!

Is there a way to install this on its own?
Yeah, let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunes64Setup.exe installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunes64Setup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunes64Setup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunes64Setup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
