W520 Docking station usb ports

Ok so I have a W520 and have it in it's proper docking station.  I was wondering if the USB ports on the BACK of the docking station are USB 3.0, or 2.0.  I'd prefer if it was 3.0 but theres no way to tell.  Hoping someone could help me out.
Thanks!

Yes. I have the W520 and doc, and all doc USB ports are USB 2.0
I have to plug my USB devices directly into the USB ports on the W520.

  • W500/w520 docking station

    Hi everyone,
I get a laptop through my school every two years. I currently have a w500, but next year we will be recieving new w520 thinkpads. I was wondering if the current mini series 3 docking station is compatible with my current w500, and later for the w520.

no the Series 3 docking station is not compatible with the W500, have a look at this KB article.
For the W520 you would need this dock:

  • T410 issues with docking station USB on XP

    Hello all
we are deploying the T410 with the docking stations and we are finding that many are getting blod, or freezing when they are docked and are booting up. When they have a USB device plugged in.
I can't locate the issue specifically, as it's happening with USB printers, wireless mice, external monitors using the DVI->USB adapters.
I see there are drivers for USB in vista on the drivers download page, but none for xp
    thoughts or directions here.
    thanks

    hey redfox707,
which docking station would this be ?
also this does not happen if there is no usb devices plugged in ?

  • W520 Docking station not working with exterma DP monitors

It used to work.  Recently, however, if I reboot the thinkpad in the doc, I lose the two DP external monitors.
I.e. the machine boots on internal display, and if I go to windows "screen resolution" I can see the names of the two external monitors greyed out with the wrong resolution.
If I do a WINDOWS-P, then extend to the second one, then make the third the "main display", then disable the internal panel, Im back to where I should be.  If I sleep and wakeup, it keeps the arrangement.  If I dock the notebook while running, it automatically jumps to the correct arrangeement (i.e. internal panel off, two external displays extended).
Its only if I boot when in in the doc it fails, and I ahve to wait for 5 minutes fo tthe machine to boot, then faf about for another minute to get the displays working.  I have never had this problem with Dell laptops in docking stations with external displays.
I dont expect a solution - and I accept im probably the only person who gets this error.
The machine cant reboot (I can only shutdown and cold boot) since I enabled password protection for the HD in the bios, so I cant test that.

With Optimus enabled, the W520 and other Optimus machines lose their brains on a restart.  This is present in the T420 and the T420S, too.
I have just gotten used to doing shutdowns.

  • W520 docking station audio problems

My new W520 is nice but it has a few quirks:
    1.  When plugged into the docking station, my external speakers (Klipshe desktop) have bad background noise, like  grinding metal when volume knob is at 20% or more.   Unplugging the audio (green) cable from the docking station eliminates the noise, and the cable works great when plugged into my iPhone.  The noise is apparently coming from the docking station!
    2.  Undocking the W520 causes the audio to no longer work.   The Control Panel, Sound page shows just "Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD" default device.   That test results in "Failed to play test tone".
Any help or recommendations is appreciated !
    Thank you,
    Steve

Also please check Lenovo.com for an updated driver.  I think there have been 2 drivers out in the past 3 weeks for the Conexant.

  • W520 docking station ethernet not working

Again another small issue with the docking station.  Before I begin, i'll let you know i've tested the router, the cables, and other sorts, and they are all working.  So i don't think that's the issue.
My issue is that when I plug my ethernet cable into the back of my docking station, i get an ip address, but cannot connect to any websites.  However, if i undock and take THAT SAME CABLE and plug it directly into the laptop, i get an ip address but can also connect to websites.  Any thoughts? i thought it might be a driver issue, but i just updated everything on the computer and still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Not sure if this is the case with your docking station, but in the past, the ethernet NIC in the Lenovo docking bays were actually a third NIC, not a pass-thru. So it is conceivable that the IP settings (in particular Default Gateway and the DNS server addresses) are not set correctly.
Plug your docking bay back into Ethernet, and after you get your IP address, open up a command prompt, try IPCONFIG /ALL, and see what you get back.

  • ThinkPad W520 Docking Station

Hey, everyone. My ThinkPad W520 should be arriving here tomorrow, and along with it, I ordered the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W. Currently, I have two monitors, one running at a resolution of 2048x1152, and the other one running at 1680x1050. I'm just now seeing that the limitation for the DVI ports is 1920x1080, so I'm guessing that won't work to hook these up.
My other route that I can go is by buying a DVI to DisplayPort cable, and then hooking them up that way. Lenovo's site claims that the dock has "Two DisplayPorts supporting 2560 x 1600 resolution," but would that mean I can hook up (these) two displays simultaneously? Inside the W520, is the NVIDIA Quadro 2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3 Memory.
    Thanks in advanced!
    -Joe

well the real limitation of the single link dvi port is actually the 2048x1152 @ 60 hz, but this resolution monitor is seldomly used so they just use WUXGA or FHD as the stated maximum, 30 inch or 27 inch high resolution LCD uses dual link dvi (which is not supported by the dock dvi).
You can hock up two displayport monitors up and still run the internal LCD, since the new W520 uses the optimus graphics technology.

  • Docking station failure

can't get the 2013 ultraslim docking station USB ports to work with my elitebook 1040

Docks are usually pretty robust but they do need good reliable power. I would not chuck it until I tried a new power supply. The fact that the power supply does not reliably power the laptop tells me the power supply is bad. The dock might also be bad but both going bad at the same time is far less likely.

  • T60 with Adv Mini Dock and USB FP keyboard Windows7 Issue

I have been combing through these forums as well as others and I am unable to find anyone who has this issue.
This only happens under Windows 7.  I have installed all the Lenovo drivers included in the System Update as well as the Betas but never can solve this.
The problem occurs when I try to eject the T60 (8743) from the Adv Mini dock that has the USB Fingerprint Keyboard connected.  If I remove the keyboard before undocking it is fine and the machine undocks normally.
Other than this issue, Windows7 works quite well on this system.
    Thank you

Thanks for the advice Izzy.  After installing both sets of keyboard and hotkey drivers it does respond to most (but not all) blue Fn key combinations as marked on the external keyboard.  The blue ThinkVantage button still does not respond.
Oddly enough, I am able to use the Fn+F4 key combination to put it into sleep mode and to bring it back out, but when the display comes back I have no control of the UltraNav pad, track pointer, or mouse.  I had to open the TP cover slightly and use the pad to get past the login screen to the desktop.
Incidently, just after using the UltraNav pad on the machine as it was slightly open a couple of messages popped up onscreen involving the USB port(s).  One indicated it was searching for a new device driver for a USB connected device, and the other indicated I could benefit from connecting the device to a high- speed USB port by unpluging the low-speed hub and connecting directly to an available high-speed USB port.
Interestingly, I don't have any external hub connected. It may have identified the docking station USB ports as low-speed, which I don't believe they are...any ideas for what to do with this new set of issues?
    Thanks, Mark

  • Firefox do not work on a monitor connected via HP USB docking station

Firefox 4 doesn't work on a monitor connected to a HP Docking Station USB 2.0 (AY052AA#AC3). The latest Firefox 3.6 (or is it 3.7) worked perfectly on that monitor (except for Adobe flash player). I usually have that monitor in portrait mode, but neither does it work in landscape mode. I have no problem on the native display on my HP Pavilion dv7-3070ez or on the external display connected directly to the laptop.
The picture displayed freeze with the content of Firefox 4.0 when moved into the USB connected display from another display. When moved back to one of the 2 other displays, operation returns to normal.

I  have lost complete functionality of my Kensington Displaylink Adaptor.  It worked just fine on my iMac with Snow Leopard, but does not work with Lion.  I have one screen connected through the display port on the back of the iMac and a second connected through the Kensington DisplayLink.  No signal gets to my monitor from the dispaly link.
I called Kensington yesterday, and the tech surpirsed to hear that Lion was now available for sale.  The tech said that they should have a new driver out in the next two weeks, but he did not inspire confidence.
danburdi, I see that you found a Lion driver.  Could you share the link?
    Thanks.

  • Docking station - port replicator

    Hi,
I am considering purchasing an IdeaPad U350.  Which docking station or port replicator works with it?
    Thanks.

I'd think any USB port replicator would work Larry.  I'm using a Kensington SD100 with my U350 with no problems.  --RH

  • USB 3 on Thinkpad docking station

I have a WD My Passport USB3 disk disk that runs fine directly on my T530 USB3 port. But if I connect it to my docking stations USB3 port it connects and disconnects all the time. is the a fix for this?

It could be a faulty docking station (or a problem with the design of the device). Is the problem consistent with all usb 3 ports? Have you tried other usb3 peripherals?
I think you should contact the nearest Lenovo service representative if you're still under warranty, or try another docking station with your T530 and your WD, maybe at a Lenovo dealer.
