W520 - never fully restarts so installs always fail
My w520 has been running fine for about two years, then today the Windows 8 install seemed to fail (after a restart, it tried to repair the OS, got in an enternal loop, then nothing). I tried a bunch of different things only to resolve that I needed to reinstall the OS. I've tried to do this now on three different drives but all fail the same way as follows:
I can boot the Windows 8.1 (also tried Windows 8) installer from a bootable USB and start the install, but after the first initial steps (copy files, installing, installing features, instaslling packages), when it wants to restart, the w520 goes to a black screen (LCD still on, just black) and hangs for a long time (20 minutes+). I do a hard shutdown and then power it back up but the install tells me it fails and I have to do the install again.
I've tried this on multiple drives and using both Windows 8.1 & Windows 8 using different install media & USB drives. Since i get the same result no matter the USB drive, media or target install drive, I suspect something else is failing. I've tried running the LINUX bootable diag... it shows some stuff that it appears to be running some tests, but the screen ultimately goes black (LCD off, but power still on) and doesn't come back.
Ideas?

That's too bad... due to a project I'm on, I can't be without a machine. This laptop is 2+yrs old and was due for a refresh. With the w530 on a 4+ week shipping schedule and no solid eta for ordering the w540 (other than rumors of January 7, 2014), I got a MacBook Pro.
The timing of this & the poor Lenovo options that resulted in me being without a machine for 1-2 months pushed this long time Lenovo customer elsewhere. The allure of a retina screen & the PCIeX SSD drive (which totally made up for the 16GB cap), not to mention 0.5" thinner & 1.5lbs lighter than the w530 pushed me to try the MBP (not to mention the 14day return policy that doesn't start until Christmas so I effectively get to try it out until January 7). If it doesn't cut it I can return it and order the w540...

Brand new 10.6.3 snow leopard disc installation always fails on MacBook pro
So I ask, is the only thing left to do here to buy a new hard drive? I figured I would ask as I feel I have tried everything.
I have a 17 inch 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo MacBook pro with 4 gb ram and a 500 gb hitachi 7200 rpm hard drive that was installed in march of 2010. I was running osx snow leopard 10.6.3 with all updates with two partitions, a 450 gb for mac and 50 gb for bootcamp and windows 7. About 3 weeks ago, after downloading some programs from cnet, I started having problems.
I could not boot to the Mac side, but booting to windows was fine. I would get hung on a blue screen with my cursor, but it never would go further. So I used
my snow leopard 10.6.3 disc to run disk utility, repaired disk and it completed the repair and partitions, always leaving a note saying, " updating boot (something) as needed. Everything repaired and was corrected, but I still could not boot to Mac. Still hung on blue screen. I reset the PRAM, still nothing, but still no reoccurring errors in disc repair.
So I purchased an external hd and backed up everything, since I never used time machine ( I know) and backed up all my data. I erased and zero'd out everything on the Mac partition. I then tried to reinstall 10.6.3 on the hard drive, and it seemed to fail repeatedly. I would install, fail, reformat, repeat repeat over and over. I was having trouble with the DVD drive taking the disc a few times, and noticed some very minor scratches on the disc, nothing major. So, I decide it could be the disc, and went out to purchase one at best buy. Came back, ready to go, took the disc the first time, and fails again and again. ( installation failed, please contact the software manufacturer )
One thing I noticed in disc utility is that it would always seem to hang up installation around 6.65 gb. So I called my free 90 day software support from apple, and they of course suggested I take it to a Mac genius... Haven't been there yet because of the proximity to my house. I then decided to backup the bootcamp side , which was working just fine, and erased that as well, I repartitioned the drive, erased the disc and tried again and again and installation kept failing.
Other things I have done, took out 2gb ram and tried, nothing. Also changed a number in terminal that was 12000' to 30000' a tip from another forum, that also failed. I am at wits end here, and can't find anyone else with this problem. Any other suggestions before i scrap the hd?
Thanks in advance for your advice,DVD drive ? The software disc itself is brand new and boots fine

Initial content installation always fails
I have mountain lion 10.8.5 and recently updated safari to 6.1. After that, I bought/installed Logic Pro X. The initial software install went through fine, and then when I open the program for the first time, it downloads 2 GB of initial content. After the download, I am prompted for teh admin password, and the installation continues, but always fails with "the content download could not be completed". I have tried this several times over the past few days, same result every time.
Has anyone seen this issue, and is there a solution?Yes.. there are several possible reasons for this..
The common ones are;
Your System disk has a permissions/disk error on it.. try repairing permissions and also use the disk utility to check and repair your system disk if needed..
Make sure your Mac does not go to sleep during the process... Change the settings in System Preferences/Energy Saving to prevent this from happening, temporarily...
Boot your Mac up in Safe Mode.... and try again.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Finally you will find a thread here which contains lots of useful info on resolving this issue... (Including some of the above)
If none of these fixes things for you then you may have to contact Apple directly and ask them to help you troubleshoot.. Remember, when you purchased Logic Pro X you got 90 days of free Applecare support for LPX so make use of it if needed
http://www.apple.com/contact/
Additional suggestion/possibiity
This is not exactly common but I have come across it more often than one would think these days... and it is one that can often be overlooked...
Your ISP doesn't allow you to download a single file larger than a certain size... Typically the Max File Size Limit is set to 2GB or in a few cases less... which can then result in the issue you are having... Call your ISP to confirm/check or find a single, larger than say 2.5GB, file on the net somewhere that you can download and test.. -

We are in a subscription of Creative Suite. I'm trying to install Edge Inspect on my PC from this URL https://creative.adobe.com/products/inspect
but keep having an issue which you can see in the screenshot below.
How come it is not genuine? It's coming from your official page of Edge Inspect.
Can I ask on what should I do to install this?Hi. Try following the instructions here: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/digital-certificate-revoked-aam.html

CS6 Master Collection installer constant fail
I purchased CS6 Master Collection and, to save download time, the reseller (iSoftware) burnt it to disk for me. All four folders are now in a single folder on my desktop. I've tried "setup.exe" multiple times (in part 1) and the installer always fails at the same point.
Yesterday I replaced Vista Business 64-bit with Win7 64-bit - same problem every time. The PDApp log states:
[FATAL] DWANative - Error in mdbGetProductIDList 12
.102 [FATAL] DeploymentNativeApplet The start applet did not return the result xml. StartApplet returned <error>Failed to open session</error>
.102 [FATAL] Deployment.FetchMediaInformation Error in starting deployment native applet
In case the DVD was faulty and was corrupt or missing a file I have also downloaded a replacement copy of part 1 from iSoftware - same result.
Computer: PC - HP xw6400 Workstation
Processors: 2 x Intel Xenon CPU E5345 - quad core with 8GB RAM

I've run out of ideas and places to research. Where do I go from here? All help gratefully received.

Installation of Adobe Premiere Elements 12 always fails
During the installation of my Adobe Premiere Elements 12, I always receive an error message (during the processing of linked components) which says:" During the installation an error has occured."
I have purchased Adobe Premiere Elements online and use the appropriate key provided by the retailer.
My Adobe Premiere Elements 10 works fine though but I would rather like to get my new program going.
I have tried all Adobe error correction proposels already but unfortunately in vain.
Any suggestions how to proceed? Thanks for your fast reply. I have already solved the problem and everything works fine.

包山包海的工作Hi,
Have you tried this sticky thread,
how to uninstall WSUS?
This article discussed how to uninstall WSUS completely.
And someone fixed this error via KB971187

Hope this helps. -
The Installation of iTunes 10.4 always fails on my MBP, OSX 10.6.8
i am unable to install iTunes 10.4 on my MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6.8. The installation always stops with an error message.
iTunes 10.4 is ABSOLUTELY compatible with OS X Snow Leopard. In fact it says it will work in Leopard. If you read the info before downloading you will see those operating system versions mentioined.
There is DEFINITELY a problem with the installer regardless of the version you are using.
I know that doesn't help. The only solution seems to be to create a new admin account. But that doesn't always work. -
Creator2 installation repeatedly failed at 29% (SunAppServer8 on W32)
I've been able to successfully install on one machine without a hitch, but on the other, the install always fails at 29% when installing the SunAppServer8. By failing, the installation just stops and sits there.
Some things I've tried (all at once):
1) Empty all temp directories
2) Removed the install path directory
3) Searched & deleted related registry entries to Creator2 and AppServer8
4) Disabled XP Pro firewall
5) Turned off antivirus
The install still failed at 29% on this machine.
Any help on how to get Creator2 installed on this machine would be appreciated!

Clip Proxies always Fail - move FCS to another Computer
I moved FCS to another new Mac Pro. Restore and UID conflict resolved with Terminal. Now all looks like here but when we start to Regenerate Proxies or Analyze we get the pictures (Poster Frames, Thumbnail Proxy but not the important Clip Proxy. Always FAIL, but compressor encode the File, but I can never see as a Clip Proxy. The logs shows the follow Error Message and I could not find here any answer.
Thanks for helping me.

this will reinstall the file you have missing and should restore the ability to regenerate proxies.
Hope this helps.

System Image Utility always fails, why?
Hi everyone,
on my clean and fresh install of 10.7.4 Server the System Image Utility always fails to create an image. I want to create a NetInstall image and have put the OS X Lion Installer in /Applications. I can select it in SIU and choose to create a NetInstall image. It asks for the admin pw and always presents an error at the very end: Image creation failed. An unknown error has occured.
If I select to create a NetBoot image instead it fails directly after clicking on the Create button with this slightly different message: Image creation failed. An error has occured. At least it’s no unknown error…
Any ideas what might be causing this? I have succesfully created NetInstall images with 10.6 Server and 10.8 Server, but 10.7 Server somehow won’t play nice.
Thanks
BjörnHi Brian,
I first deleted the Installer and redownloaded it from the App Store, just to make sure there was no problem with it. Even though I now have the 10.7.4 Installer (had 10.7.0 before) nothing has changed. I then went on to set the log level as suggested. I now get different errors based on the chosen log level.
Log level set to debug:
Image creation failed.
*** -[__NSArrayM insertObject:atIndex:]: object cannot be nil
Log level set to verbose:
Image creation failed.
An unknown error has occurred.
I did not see anything helpful in the logs unfortunately. The only noticeable thing mentioned was: Failed to create image from installer media.
Any additional ideas? I will attach both logs here, just in case.

Always fail to deploy to server when (Create a Simple EJB Session Bean )
Hi,
I'm trying the "Oracle JDeveloper 11g Tutorials" - "Create a Simple EJB Session Bean", I just follow the instructions in that page. But when I tried to run it, it always failed. Can anyone help me to have a look. I paste the log below. thank you.
There's an error in the log "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.security.jps.wls.listeners.JpsApplicationLifecycleListener". but I don't know what's that meaning.

#### Cannot run application SessionEJB due to error deploying to DefaultServer.
[Application SessionEJB stopped and undeployed from Server Instance DefaultServer]Steve,
I'm facing the same issue as user#####.
Your workaround does not work ; when I deploy manuelly the ear file, with a new weblogic-application.xml, I get the same error.
Does that happen a lot ? :p
Edit :
my web.xml :

Hi,
I've been trying for days to download Windows support software via Bootcamp assistant but it always fails with message 'Can't install windows software because it is not currently available from the software update server.'
Anyone else had problems or success with this?
Thanks in advance.9thdoc wrote:
I'm getting a similar but distinct error message in snow leopard: Download could not continue. "The windows support software is not available" and have no original snow leopard instal disc with me.
Your issue is completely different. You are running Snow Leopard. There is no download for Windows Support software for Snow Leopard, hence the error you see. Snow Leopard Windows Support software is on the Snow Leopard installation disk.
You need the Snow Leopard installation disk or a replacement for it. -
ITunes update always fails on Windows 7 x64
I have had this problem for over a year on my Windows 7 64-bit system. Whenever there is a new version of iTunes, I try and update using the iTunes Software Update notification that pops up. This always fails to install. I am then forced to uninstall it fully and re-install using the directions located here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
The above works but is a major hassle. I don't understand why this keeps happening and have looked for solutions here and elsewhere. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!I have had this problem on my x64 Win7 machine for as long as I can remember. I may however have found a solution. I recently added another User Account (non-admin) to my machine so my wife could use it too. Whilst logged in her account today iTunes popped up with an update. I had tried this update (10.6.3.25) on my windows account a couple of times with it failing each time. I had decided I could no longer be bothered going through the full uninstall/reinstall process again and wasn't going to bother.
For some reason though I thought I'd give it a go on my wife's windows login. It worked just fine.......
So my suggestion is to create another Windows User Account and see if you can update iTunes from that account instead. It's the first time in at least 18 months that iTunes update has worked properly. -
11g EM for windows host credentials always fail verify
Hi,
I tried to enter the OS host credential in the 11g EM database control, but it always failed to verify or show invalid username or password. Anyone know how and what user name should I enter?
Thanks
VincentThis section way at the bottom of the Post Installation tasks should help you:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32006/postcfg.htm#BABFAEIG
Make sure that the OS user that you are setting up for Preferred Credentials has the Log on as a batch job privilege enabled.
