W520 now available with faster 2960XM chip.

Picked this little tidbit up from over at the notebookreview.com forum ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/ )today.
When I looked at the configurator, I had to choose the priciest of the three starting configs to get a shot at this chip.
Not cheap, but there if you need/want the extra horsepower...
A 2960XM chip with 32G of memory and you have one screamin' laptop on your hands...

I would have expected that you get higher scores. Is it possible that the fan can't handle the additional cooling and the CPU gets too hot and throttles itself? (Lenovo uses a more powerful (and louder) fan for the 2920/2960.

Macy's Amex now available with Chip

i just got off the chat with Macy's to verify my new limit I will have after merge of accounts next month . Rep said that my AU's along with me , would receive new Amex Cards with the Chip in it. My AU's where issued just a store card and a Amex for me. So now since they are doing away with the store card ( if you have Amex too) , they are issuingAU's a Amex. my combined limits will now be $16,500. Did you know the tablets are now available with the Edge program?

I would check again. The problem is when you went to a corporate store and that is the only way to get it. The stores were telling customers that Verizon's device payment plan was only for tablets.
That is the first lie on their parts. The second thing the store would tell customers that if you used the plan you would still lose unlimited data, lie two.
You could not grandfather in a plan such as the device payment plan. Grandfathered to whom? Those who already choose it and are on it? Those who got grandfathered in how? Maybe a wrong choice of word in your post.

I also called my former account executive at Verizon and he said he knew of no discontinuance of the program.
So unless you have advance information via working for Verizon wireless I would wait for the news release.
In your case I would go to a corporate store and insist on them honoring the Device Payment Plan. Maybe mention your attorney, or a state regulatory agency etc.

Been having the same problems all week. And am got a generic, not-at-all-helpful response from my initial inquiry with support, then absolutely no response to my follow-up requests. There seem to be a fair number of people posting this problem, so not sure why we're being ignored.
Was able to eventually download the episodes manually via the 'purchased' link, but it's about 10 more steps than normal.
Also noticed that itunes isn't recognizing my purchases at all, not just season passes. If I go to a page of a show where I buy episodes individually, it doesn't show which episodes I have previously bought like it used to.

W520, motherboard consistancy with i7-2860QM or i7-2960XM differences, addition 3 external displays

we are planning to purchase 3 pieces w520 for heavy business usage applications for long run about 4 years or more.
the applications would be advanced Microsoft applications such as Outlook with Business contact manager, speadsheets, etc. and some CRM applications. each w520 would run with 3 external displays while the laptop screen closed. for display the configuration will have nvidia 1000m rather than 2000m for the cost issue.
the most important cost will be the difference between i7-2860QM (45W) and i7-2960XM (55W). we believe for our applications i7-2860QM will be sufficient. however we have concern the consistancy between the mainboard and these CPUs. the difference cost is : 500$/each.
in short, could you help us to choose between i7-2860QM and i7-2960XM, which would be our best choice to go with?
if anyone can help, we will really appreciate it.

First of all, Lenovo support is wrong. Neither GPU will drive three external monitors. There is a flaw in the Optimus design for the W520 in that regard.
Regarding the CPU, have you already tested your applications and already know they are CPU bound? In other words you can cost justify the extreme processor over the entry level quad core?

D20 now only available with Windows and SATA...??

As of this morning, the Lenovo Thinkstation D20 on the US site is only available with Windows and SATA hard drives. It used to have SAS drives and DOS available.
They may just be low on inventory, or maybe... ?

Kind of funny you mention this as a few of my team members and I were digging through the CTO site today. Considering the crazy number of various parts/options that we have qualified for the S/C/D 20 platforms, there are a ton of omissions on the CTO site. I know they pull some various options from time to time because of inventory or end of life concerns, but the configs that were showing up today as available really made no sense. Unfortunately there's not a lot I can do from my side to get this resolved other than raise the complaint. I'll see what I can do though.
