Today, I had been removing the release 296.10 (newest) (http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-296.10-whql-driver.html), and installing the driver (older): NVIDIA Driver Release 280.26 [8.17.12.8026] Verde from address:

hi Alobar,
Base from your post you mentioned that you friend uses 3D max, Cad and for rendering stuff. In my experience with 3D modelling go with the Quadro. U cannot go go wrong. I do fair bit of 3d modelling on the Software MAYA. When using hardware rendering as compared to the Software rendering, Quadro Does an absolutely fantastic Job.
I hope this helps you decide on which one to pick. By the end of day it all boils down to cost vs what you're comfortable with :-)

W520 over heating and nvidia quadro 2000m disabled by windows

I rencently reinstalled windows 7 on my W520 and it refuses to activate my nvidia quadro 2000m (Code 43)
For a while the fan is overheating and the right left hinge become very hot.
I think the graphic card is dead but I want to know why and if I can stop the overheating.
Is the the graphic card soldered onto the motherboard of the W520?

After install win7 I install the driver for the wifi and the lenovo system update software. Then I run it and check if all devices are enabled. If there is someproblem I download the drivers from the website.
I already tried the nvidia optimus display driver and the the nvidia card is still disabled. I also checked if optimus is enabled on the BIOS and it is.
I used Lenovo Solution Center Lite to test the graphic cards and only the Intel HD Graphics 3000 can be tested. I got messages like "Can not send OpenCL and Direct3D command" and the result code "WVC000000-WJHZ4H" for the nvidia so the soft can not test it.
My opinion is that the nvidia is dead and I need to replace it if the it's covered by the warranty otherwise I will have to buy a new desktop to play my games and use my W520 only for programming ...
EDIT : I think my battery is almost dead, before I reinstate win7 I got a warning that battery should be changed. Can it have led to a malfunction that damaged the motherboard or the graphic card?
P.S: I made a mistake, it's not the right but the left hinge that heat ... sorry.

Nvidia Quadro 4000 not working properly

Hi all,
I am really hoping that some one can help me with a very frustrating issue with my new Mac Pro and Nvidia Quadro 4000 card.
I purchased my Mac Pro from an Apple store and added the Quadro 4000, I need that card as it is supported by Adobe Premiere CS5 to enable the GPU acceleration. The reason I went to the store to buy instead of online was to get advice about the card as I have not used a Mac for 5 years now. I was told that they are not familiar with the card, but put it in and run alongside the ATI card.
When it arrived I put it all together, except for the Quadro 4000, and it all worked perfectly. I have 2 x 27” Cinema Displays attached. I installed production studio CS5 and then extremely carefully added the Quadro card.
Without going on about all the drama with it not working with the ATI card and then removing that and installing only the Quadro, it is not doing what I bought it to do. Adobe is not recognising the device, I have updated to version 5.0.3 of Premiere Pro, which supports this card.
I think I know what the problem is, but I have no idea how to resolve it. I put the Quadro in and then installed the drivers. My research says this is wrong (there were no instructions in the box and the read me file on the disc just said I need a specific cuda driver), so I removed it, put the ATI in and hunted down all the Cuda (Quadro stuff) files, deleted them, reinstalled drivers and reinstalled the card. No change, it drives one display and Premiere still cant see it.
I have tried to find answers on the internet, Apple are not very helpful as it was a third party item they have no training on (although purchased from Apple).
The only thing I have read is it may need to be on OS 10.6.5, I updated to 10.6.6 and/or because I installed the card before drivers. I have read that I need to sort out ‘Permissions’ but can’t find out how.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really need to get this thing working as I have a very expensive computer I can not use.

Oh, one other thing, it is supposed to run two displays, one via display port and the other via DVI, but I am having no joy here either, and there seems to be no DVI male to MDP female adapter????

You are making it (sounds like to me) harder than it is.
You do not mention which ATI card, but you should use both side by side unless you have the 5870 which is using the two pci 6-pin power connectors on it.
With Mac OS people generally never need to delete drivers by hand.
ATI 57x0 and Quadro work better together. Or even ATI 4870 and GTX 285 in the past. Use the ATI for monitors and Quadro for CUDA and Mercury.
FYI for Quadro 4000 Mac Owners upgrading to 10.6.6:
Included in today's 10.6.6 related apple docs is one noting new Quadro 4000 owners need to Reinstall the Nvidia Quadro driver update after updating to 10.6.6.
To save you a lot of clicks (the doc links to the nvidia product page) - here's the page with the current (as of this AM) Quadro OS X 10.6.5 Driver page which still shows the 11/16/2010 driver date/v256.01.00f03. But the file I downloaded this morning is named "Retail_256.01.00f03v5.dmg" (28.9MB) - dated Dec 17th. The file I downloaded back in mid-Nov does not have the "V5" in the filename and is larger (37.3MB). I don't own this card and not dug into the pkg to see what changed (i.e. did they remove the extra kexts for other models perhaps?) but just a FYI.

Good question. I was looking for flexclone as well. Fortunately we are having around 1.5T of database and we do netapp snapshot to duplicate RAC database to standalone, with our custom scripts on daily basis and it is working for almost a year now. :) And to add more we are not paying any third party vendor. Although the process is not supported still it is working without any issue so far.

W520 nvidia quadro power consumption

Dear community, I have a short question about power consumption. I did a clean install of windows 7 64bit on my W520 with a quadro 2000. Power consumption when idle with max brightness is somewhere at 18 watt, definitely highter than what I had with the Lenovo default installation. Checking Lenovo's energy software indicates that the GPU is running at full speed all the time so I thought this could be a source of additional power consumption. I installed the latest Lenovo graphics driver from the homepage, but I'm not sure if thats enough. Maybe there is a problem with Nvidias Optimus technology or the switchable graphics? I'd be glad about any feedback and, yes, I know that I'm a little bit on my own with a clean install. :-) Thanks, Branagh

I get these numbers from the basic view. The battery tab does not indicate power consumption when I have the power chord connected. If I'm on battery the wattage numbers match.
But the result remains the same no matter if I'm on battery or plugged, or what power settings I use (setting the display to max brightness and the machine idling): If I force the laptop to be on the Nvidia graphics, power consumption is at arond 18W, if I allow it to use the intel graphics, it goes up to at least 20W. GPU load in the power manager is always given at 100%.
GPU-Z gives more adequate numbers I guess. When I force the Nvidia GPU, the load is correctly displayed at 0% when idle and the core clock goes down to 50Mhz. When I use the intel graphics the load remains at 1% and the core/ram clocks remain at 650 / 533 Mhz all the time.

W520 - nVidia optimus does not work after memory upgrade

I have W520 16Gb (4*4Gb) running Windows Server 2008R2. Everything works fine - display sets to Optimus.
I've tried to upgrade the memory to 24Gb (2*4Gb + 2*8Gb). Laptop recognizes memory just fine. Memtest+ does not report any errors. Although Windows does not boot up with Optimus set in BIOS. It stucks on black screen during OS boot.
It starts in safe mode. Nothing particularly interesting in event log. It also starts just fine if I choose to use Discrete Graphics in the BIOS but in that mode it does not support 3 monitors..
Latest drivers, latest BIOS..
Does anybody experience this issue?

According to Lenovo, For W510 / W520 systems with 4 memory DIMMs installed, place the largest memory DIMM into DIMM slot 0, place the second largest DIMM in DIMM slot 1, place the third largest DIMM in DIMM Slot 2, and place the fourth DIMM in DIMM Slot 3.
True, tested with Windows Experience Index on my W520 with 8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM.
Score: 7.5 (Slot 0 + 2, 1 + 3, etc. with random BSODs)
Score: 7.6 (Slot 0 + 1)

If you paid by credit card then I suggest you check your credit card's statement. Apple would have issued the refund directly on your credit card. I don't think that you would see anything on your iTunes account.

My apple tv is not streaming from my itunes since my last update but streams movie previews so i know it is communicating to the internet any advice. P.S. i have already unplugged everythign and reset everything already so i need better advice.

I have had this unit for a year and have not had any problems till now. The last update changed the look and then it wont stream it is very frustrating. any advice will be appreciated. Just look through the list of posts - you will see many people asking the same question. My father and i (different households) have the same issue. Apple techs want to blame it on interference or firewalls, BUT everything was working before the update so that is just a blow off answer. Apple needs to fix this.

NVIDIA Quadro K2200 is not Mercury certified?

I had buckets and buckets of problems with PNY NVIDIA Quadro K2000 cards dropping my third display after one week then rendering so slow I had to go to 1/4 resolution. And the rendering line would stay green but the monitor would freeze or stutter on playback, I would have to close and reopen Pr to resolve it. PNY tech support says the cards were defective. B&H was kind enough to take two back and finally sent me the new K2200 card, which I installed and for now all three monitors are working.
However I opened an existing project and got a message saying the card is not certified, it won't run Mercury. I tried to set up a new project and got the same message. My copy of Pr is cc2014 and up to date. Any suggestions?

That card is not listed in the list of approved cards in system specifications. The warning dialog box should be expected behavior since it is a GPU with over 1 GB VRAM that is not on the list. Once you click through the warning dialog box, you should be able to get GPU acceleration running. You adjust the Mercury Playback Engine GPU acceleration in File > Project Settings > General. Set it to CUDA there.

W520 - Quadro 2000M defect

This screen appears unregulary when I activate the Quadro 2000M inside my W520. I checked the hardware with Lenovo Thinkvantage Toolbox, every test is positiv. I did a factory reset for the system, the error is still there.
Is it an hardware error?
I have over 400 days guarantee left, where should I call when I am in Germany? I bought a special service, wich means the repair should be done at my home. No bring-in.

This could be a hardware issue, but it is best to rule out possible software issues first. Have you updated the display drivers for this video card? I found a post here that talks about a similar issue with the Quadro. Now, this post doesn't necessarily apply to you, but it is advised in the thread's solution to make sure that the drivers are updated and see if that solves the issue. You can find the latest driver for that device here. Select Video from the first dropdown box and your operating system from the second.

W520 Graphics Upgrade Quadro 1000M - Quadro 2000M

Does anyone know if the graphics cards in the Lenovo W520 can be upgraded? Say from a Nivida Quadro 1000M to a Nivida Quadro 2000M? Or is graphics board hard wired into the Motherboard?

It's soldered onto the motherboard. You'd have to replace the entire system board.

I'm not sure that I follow. Are you saying that when you open a PDF file in Acrobat or Reader, that the display resolution changes automatically on your system?
What version of Acrobat/Reader are you using? Do you see this same issue in other files/applications?
