Help!
Can't turn on w520. Power button flashes with 1s intervals
From power off, when press then round on/off button, the following happens:
1) power button starts flashing
2) DVD drive makes its startup noise.
3) power button continues flashing.
At this point nothing works, have to pull power plug.
No thinkpad splash logo, no way to get to bios.
Have tried the following:
1) removing power and battery for 10 mins
2) pressing the power button 30 times with no power or battery.
3) as above with 5s between presses.
4) holding down power button for 20s
5) removed all memory, msata , sata and DVD drive
Nothing had an effect.
Is it bricked?

For completeness, the hardware maintenance manual may be obtained here:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-76854
Below are snippets from the applicable pages in the pdf file, but I'd highly recommend having the full manual at hand, however possible, so that you can see better detail and any warnings.
Regards.

Ipod classic I try to start but the apple just flashes on and off.
I can't reset and it doesn't show it charging. Not recognized by computer.
It was working just fine in my car, I stopped for an hour, and when I came back it just started the flashing thing.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Reset it this way.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

If it is  still not working.
    Then Restore it using iTunes
    Good Luck!

  • Share in FC Pro Studio suddenly won't work - export button just flashes

    Hi,
    Can anyone help?
I have an urgent project which I need to burn to DVD. I have used the share feature in FC Pro Studio loads of times and it does the job but now the export button just flashes and nothing happens when I click on it.
Someone helped me a while back by suggesting that there might be a share confict with Compressor or Q Master and that I should delete some library files. Whatever it was worked but that was over a year ago and I cant remember what they recommended but it worked brilliantly.
Many poeple have told me to use Compressor but I've done that and the DVD wouldn't play on all PCs.
    I'd like to use Share.
Please can someone suggest a solution. There definitley is one.
    Thanks,
    Mike

The best workflow is to export a selfcontained quicktime with current settings from fcp, use compressor with the appropriate dvd preset and bring the resulting files (m2v and ac3) in dvdsp and author the dvd there.  Do some searching here and I seem to remember someone has a very simple description of this workflow.  If you had compatibility problems with a dvd on a pc, it would probably be caused by the particular dvd blanks you used.

Have you tried a soft-reset to see if that gets it to boot up properly ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should reappear and it will hopefully boot up fully - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Hp dv6t 6b00 won't start properly. Led's flash

    My laptop:
HP Pavillion dv6t 6b00. I did pay like 750$ for it and I've had it for about 2-3 years.
    Here is the story:
I spilled a bit of apple juice on my keyboard and about 5 of the keys got sticky. The next day it wouldn't turn on. I few times before, my laptop wouldn't turn on and I had to reinsert the battery for it to work. This time when I pressed the power button it the mouse pad light, power button light, and wifi light lit up for about a second then went out. This happened every 5-6 seconds until I removed the battery and disconnected the power source again. I did the hard reset procedure: disconnect the power cord, remove battery, hold power button for 30+ seconds. It didn't work. Opened the computer and cleaned up some residue, but I didn't see any on the motherboard. After a few days of Googleling someone suggested to try pressing f4 and the power button at the same time. By doing this, my laptop powered up and is running again. However, sometimes it faces the same problem again and won't turn on, but flashes those three lights. The f4 + power button will turn it on, but something is obviously still wrong.

Do they just flash once and turn off or flash a few times? If they flash a few times, how many before they turn off?
Also, could you please give me the exact product number for your computer?

  • So my i just dropped my iPad and now it won't start up. It just keeps turning on and off. Like the apple symbol shows up and then goes away? What happened and is there a way to fix it. I tried restoring and that didn't work

I pretty much stated it in my question. I dropped my iPad and now it won't boot itself up. The apple symbol shows up, then the screen turns all black and weird looking with a strange green color at the bottom, and just turns off. It keeps doing this over and over. What happened and is there a way to fix it? I also tried connecting it to itunes and that doesn't seem to be working. It detects an ipad but can't seem to read anything else. It tells me to try and restore it but I can't. HELP!!!

Try this. It worked for a few users after a drop.
Turn the iPad over and give it a very HARD slap on the back. May take several slaps.

  • IBook won't start up - power button does nothing, PMU reset not helpful

Hi all - I was using my iBook earlier this morning and it just turned itself off without any warning. It was running off the battery, but had plenty of charge, and there was no 'low power' warning, so it wasn't that.
I can't get it to turn on now. Pressing the power button does nothing - no whirring, beeping, chiming or anything else. I tried resetting the PMU to no effect. No lights appear on the caps lock button. I haven't tried using the Mac OSX cd, but I'm a little afraid I won't get it back out of the slot-load drive with the way the computer is behaving.
I have it plugged in now and it seems to be charging the battery, so I don't think it's related to either power or battery issues. In fact, it seems the power and battery are the only things working! Absolutely nothing else happens. Unresponsive.
My warranty ran out in September (November now, unfortunately) so if it needs servicing I suppose it will be out of my own pocket.
    Can anyone help?

    iBook G4 Dual usb 14"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Ok - good news. I've got the problem fixed.
After a call to Apple Support (called the Canadian one), and a $59 charge (worth it, in my opinion, since my warranty is expired) the gentleman on the line asked me to do a PMU reset with the SHIFT + CTRL + Option + Power combination. That's what I had tried before and it didn't work. Didn't work this time either.
Next, he had me remove the battery, unplug the computer from the adapter, and hold the power button down for 5 seconds. I put the battery back in, plugged it back in, and turned it on.
Voila. Works like a charm. Apparently, there are two ways to do a PMU reset.
Thanks everyone for looking at my thread, and thanks arnie for the responses.

  • G4 MDD won't start. Power button doesn't light up.

I just moved, shipped my computer (a G4 mirrored door drive) and when I unpacked it and plugged it in, it wouldn't even act like there was power to it. No light up on the power button, no chime, no nothing. I used my Blackberry to troubleshoot and ended up resetting the PMU.
Today, about a week later, I was having trouble with my internet so I shut everything down and flipped the switch on my powerstrip to reset it. (GRR. I probably should have just unplugged the modem and plugged it bag in.) Now, my computer is doing the same thing. Now lights, no chimes, nada.
Should I reset the PMU again? Is that bad to do? Why would it possibly be doing this again?
    Help!

Unplugging your Mac from it's power source causes the battery to discharge as it trys to maintain PRAM settings and the Macs clock. If you have done this before, or often cut power off to your Mac via a power strip or wall switch, your battery may be depleted. Since it's not a rechargable battery it'll need to be replaced. You can also check it with a voltmeter.
Even if you have'nt done it before, this disconnect may have been enough to kill it, if it was weak to begin with.
I would check it first. When mine went, I had no response from my Mac at all; just a light on my power button; absolutely no boot at all.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's) but the info in it, except SMU not being included, still applies.
    Cheers!

  • Computer won't start by power button only; requires extra reset button push

I have a PowerMac G4 AGP, 400 with 1.5 ram, OS 9.2.2. For some time now I have not been able to start the computer by pushing the power button on the keyboard. To start the computer I can push either the power button on the keyboard or front of the computer, then I have to push the reset button on the front of the computer.
Now I need to do a firmware upgrade and I need the computer to start from the power button alone. I've zapped the PRAM, but haven't opened up the computer to start resetting PMU and changing the battery. Can any of you computer docs give me a diagnosis?
    G5180d, G4SDTiBook, G4TiBook, G4 Yosemite, PC 604   Mac OS 9.2.x

It' possible that the battery is weak. Have you ever changed it. See Mac PRAM, NVRAM, CUDA/PMU & Battery Tutorial
This link tells what firmware version you need for OS X. You need version 4.28 (Boot ROM version in Apple System Profiler) Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117
You need to install the firmware using OS 9 BEFORE you install OS X.

  • MBP won't start when power button is pushed

Unit stays absolutely silent.  Any suggestions?

    S.U.
Thank you for your response.  I'm quite sure that the problem was that the magnetic power adaptor hadn't connected well and wasn't charging.  Its LED showed green but the battery was drained.  I checked the battery by pushing its test button and a single LED slowly flashed indicating that the battery needed charging.  After resetting the adaptor connection and giving it time to charge, the MBP started without a problem.
Moral of the story... don't over look the obvious.
    Thanks again.

  • My iPod Classic won't start up. It just keeps showing me a red X and telling me to come here. What do I do?

    HELP!!!

Try rebooting the computer, do NOT open Firefox and then try the clean reinstall.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
