W530 Bezel popped open

Hi,
last friday, when typing on my 4 1/2 month old W530, the left side of the screen popped open with an audible 'pop'.
Nothing to worry about - I thought - since the plastic piece should click back into place.
But weirdly there is now a metal tab sticking through the gap (see image) with some wiring attached to it (probably antenna). And there is no way to pop that back in ... as the tab does not move a single bit. There is also a little bulge on the back now (I assume it wasn't there before). It feels like the screen assembly has been 'crammed' into the lid in the first place and after a while the stress made the bezel and the assembly pop out.
Has anybody come across this and knows a solution...?
FYI:
The warranty department says it's not covered:
" There are no quality issues known with hinge tongue on W530 machines.
These types of damages are considered as customer induced damages and are not covered by the warranty."
I'm not sure what a hinge 'tongue' is, but the hinge itself isn't anywhere near.
Btw. this is the reply to me after I complained, as the first customer service person did not understand what the problem actually was.
Anyway, I really love the machine, it does what it is supposed to do without any fuzz, it is my first Thinkpad, but probably my last now ... as the warranty department (UK in my case) does not seem to spend more than 2 seconds on a case.

If the laptop is still under warranty, register a ticket with IBM Electronic Service Call.
https://www-930.ibm.com/support/esc/signin.jsp
You will need to sign up using an e-mail address as the IBM ID. If you bought this laptop as a consumer and not as a business, don't worry. You don't need to be a part of an organization to use this service.
Once you've logged in, go to "Place a Request" and start filling out the page.
Insert 60Y5482 into the Parts Number field. This is an FRU item, not a CRU item, so they will not send one to you to replace/fix yourself.
Insert into the comment that the LCD Front Bezel has popped out, etc. and are requesting maintenance service or something along those lines.
If IBM decides to accept your request, they will either send you a shipping label or send a technician to your home. The former is most likely. In all warranty situations involving shipping, they will offer UPS First Day Air.
Don't attempt to fix it yourself. It is an FRU part, which means it can only be fixed by a technician (according to the warranty)

I keep getting a pop up window labled Software Update saying, "To open 'MLBNexDefAutobahn,' you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?" I click on "Not Now" and it pops open again a second later.  It is not going away! Is this a Java virus? I just installed Maverick Wednesday and got a message yesterday on google that "Google would like to take over this computer"??? Please help.
    Thanks!

This is not a virus, or any other kind of malware. Some third-party software that you have installed is repeatedly trying to open a Java process called MLBNexDefAutobahn. What that software might be, I don't know. What software do you have that this name might fit with?

  • When playing FarmVille I continually get a window poping open that is title "about blank" it then closes and pops open again, preventing me from doing anything on Farmville how can I stop this?

when trying to play FarmVille with Firefox on my laptop, a window continually pops open with the title "about blank" then it closes, and pops open again right away. Because of this I can not manage to do anything on the FarmVille screen. This does NOT happen on my desktop machine. Both are running Windows 7 64 bit. How can I prevent the window from poping up all the time? Something is continually sending a request, but I do not know what it is. Thank you for any help or suggestions. By the way, Google Chrome works perfectly, but I prefer Firefox.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I have itunes set up to sync with my Ipod Touch and my Ipad.  As of today, it keeps looking for an iPhone to sync with and give me an error message.  I don't have an iPhone and don't know how to stop it from popping open with this error message.

I have Itunes set up to sync with my Ipod touch and Ipad.  As of today, iTunes has started searching to sync with an iPhone, which I don't have and pops open with an error message stating it cannot locate the iPhone to sync.  I have looked in devices and only the iPad and iPod Touch are listed.  Any ideas on how to stop iTunes from searching for any iPhone it is never going to find? It is annoying to have it popping up all the time with the error message.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

I am using a Canon 640 printer and my MPNavigator will not remain open.  It pops open then quickly closes.  I've used it for several years but it just started doing this.  What can I do to fix this problem?

I had a similar problem with a Canon MP800R under Mac OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks.
In my case, the MP Navigator app in the dock was linking to the wrong file.
It linked to Applications > MP Navigator 2.1.app > Contents > Resources > MP Navigator.app, but it should link to the "main" app, probably under Applications > MP Navigator 2.1.app.
After pulling the correct MP Navigator app file to the dock, I can start MP Navigator again by clicking on it in the dock. However, when clicking on it, a second MP Navigator icon will show up in the dock and stay there until the app is closed. By the way, the MP800R scanner also works (although officially not supported by Canon).

  • Siri keeps popping open when I am trying to listen to voicemail messages. It won't play the voicemail and Siri continues to open every time I try and access the message. ?

Quite often when I access voicemail on my screen, I hit "Play" the message, Siri opens up. I try and close it down and hit play again and it keeps popping open.
I end up having to restart the entire phone.  Any suggestions?
I am also noticing my voicemails are severly delayed in showing up as messages on my phone. Sometimes a few days later it will show i have a vm and when I listen to it, it was recorded 48 hours earlier. This is not consistent but intermittent.

Still a problem a year later: you tap Play on the VM, raise the phone, and Siri interrupts!
This bug really needs to be fixed! As soon as you tap the VM Play button, Siri should be deactivated! It works that way when you're on a call after all: I never have Siri interrupt the start of a call.
The bug is this: Siri DOES deactivate, but there's a delay: you have to wait a little after hitting Play before it becomes "Siri-safe." How long to wait? Wait too long and you miss the start of the message, or wonder whether you might have. Wait too little and Siri pops up--including making the Siri chime when your phone is on vibrate! (Nice way to get glares in a library.) This not a guessing game we should have to play.
Disabling Siri raise-to-speak entirely is workaround, but shouldn't be needed. I'd rather not give up that feature, flawed though it may be.

  • DVD drive pops open

The DVD Drive on my Pavilion DV6 laptop (Windows 7) pops open when I start up and intermittently after start up.
I used the device manager function to disable the dvd drive and this stops the problem so I guess that one of the applications is opening the drive.
Can someone please tell me if there is a way to identify which application is causing the drive to open.

Was online with tech support this afternoon and we seem to have solved the problem. Here is what we did.
    First, modified the registry
    Please try the below steps
Click Start on the Left Bottom of the Screen.
    Click Start Search
    Type “regedit” and Hit Enter
On the Left hand Pane you can find H-Key-Local Machine.
On the Left side of H-Key-Local Machine you can find “>” sign Click on that “>” Sign.
You can find “System”, just click on beside its “>” sign.
Where you can find “Current Control Set”, just click on beside its “>” sign.
Where you can find “Control”, just click on beside on its “>” sign.
Where you can find “Class”, just click on beside on its “>” sign.
Please look for “{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}”, just click on it(Not on the arrow beside it)
In the right side of the pane you can find ‘Upper Filter’
Please select ‘Upper Filter’and delete it.
Then choose the Lower filter and delete it.
In my case, I didn't have the Upper Filter, but I did have a LowerFilters
I deleted it and restarted and the drive still popped open but this may have helped for the next step.
Secondly, I opened up the device manager from the control panel and removed the "hp DVD" device. Afterward, I rebooted. The device automatically got re-installed.
For now, the door seems to be staying shut. We'll see how it goes over the next few days.

  • CD Tray Pops Open When Hard Drive is Active

Hi. I have a G3 900 MHz iBook running OS X 10.3.9. Just about a month ago, my CD tray started popping open intermittantly. I have searched and searched for a cause, have reset the PMU, created new user accounts, cleaned the drive but still happens. It will play a cd and stay closed if I dont do anything on the computer, but the minute I open a program, open a web page, etc., the drive will pop open. I dont think its a latch issue because it will stay closed. Its like some signal from the hard drive is being fired that opens it (as if the eject button was being pushed). Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Does this happen while playing a music CD? Does it eject a music CD in the middle of playing when you use a different application?
It's possible that the keyboard being slightly misseated could cause this. Try _removing and replacing the keyboard_, being sure to get it properly seated.
If reseating the keyboard doesn't help, how long has it been since you did any hard drive maintenance? Try booting into Safe Mode. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
You will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if a little hard drive maintenance helps things out.

  • Pop Open Color Picker Script

For years I've thought it would be wonderful to have the ability to get the Adobe Color Picker to pop open using a keyboard shortcut.
Well, my wish has come true! As an outgrowth of a thread on the Adobe Photoshop Scripting forum, Michael Hale has posted this terrific Script that even works in PS CS3:

  • No way to STOP bookmark folders popping-open when dragging something across them

Bookmark folders in the bookmarks SIDEbar pop-open if an image is dragged across them not-quickly-enough. This is true even if the image is being dragged from, say, the Finder's desktop over to another Finder location or Finder folder, or to some other application (e.g. to be dropped into a Filemaker record) - and merely passing-over a Firefox window that happens to also be open though NOT being the active app. I'm told by Firefox support that there's no way to disable this "feature".
Furthermore, the folder then remains open, often obscuring all the other bookmark-sidebar folders until it's manually closed.
And finally, if the bookmarks sidebar isn't even open, this drag-across activity will often open BOTH the bookmarks sidebar AND whatever folder was the dragging cursor's accidental victim.
It's fine to have this folder pop-open as an OPTION, but it would be MUCH preferable to have the OPTION to shut-off this behavior.

Please note that the Mac's OS X has this folder pop-open feature, but (1) it is an OPTION that can be disabled in the Finder Preferences. And even if enabled, the user can set how much delay ioccurs before folders pop-open.
    Options GOOD! :-)
[To open immediately, Mac users have the option set and simply press the space-bar.]

  • CD tray pops open

I can not keep a disk in the cd tray as the machine pops it back out (so DisK Warrior wont' work that way).
    1) I tried booting to Disck Warrior from an external USB drive but it wont allow me to boot up from that disl(or maybe one can and I just don't know how.)
    2) I thought maybe there might be a way to disable the the reject reflex and use a paper clip each time to open the drive, is that possible?
    3) open the machine to see if somehthing appears disconnected.
Any ideas? This seems to be a common problem with the iBooks as others in the school lab have had this issue.
Also, is there a way to check online if the computer is still under warranty?

is there a way to check online if the computer is still under warranty?
    Go to this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/
Toward the bottom at the right is a box where you can enter the serial number. The purchase date and warranty information will appear.
At least one person has reported limited success at keeping the CD tray from popping open by resetting the PMU. This worked for a bit, but then the problem showed up again.

  • Stop folders from popping open?

Is there a way to stop folders and subfolders from automatically opening when dragging in a new bookmark? It's painfully annoying that it opens and a long list of what's inside forces everything else out of view. When I do the same thing in Firefox, it behaves exactly as I would expect. Just like dragging any file into any folder.
    Thanks

    Hi. Thanks for the reply.
Finder preferences do not seem to affect Safari in that way. No matter how I set folder preferences, Safari bookmark folders insist on popping open upon dragging bookmarks inside. Note: this does not happen when dragging a bookmark from an open folder over to the left where Show All Bookmarks is open. It happens when trying to drag between subfolders. Imagine a primary folder (like News or something) and inside are folders organized by type. Trying to drag a bookmark from one of those to another one is when it happens. And it is terribly counter productive and counter intuitive.
    Whew!

  • What is keyboard combination to pop open DVD drive?

I was on the phone with Apple support a while back when having major start-up problems with my desktop.
The technie told me what key(s) to hold down while rebooting so that the DVD drive would pop open (so I could quickly shove my system CD in there).
Of course, I didn't write down that instruction and now can't remember what it was .... and can't seem to figure it out.
    Anyone?

  • Preferance pane window keeps popping open when entering search or data into any fields. I'm also using 1Password and it happens when trying to enter a password

I'm running on Mac OS X 10.7.4, Firefox 14.0.1. This issue didn't exist until this most recent Firefox update. Basically, a preference pane opens every time data is being entered into a field. It doesn't seem to be the same preference pane that you see when you open the preferences through the normal Firefox access ie. Firefox > Preferences. All of the choices listed in this particular preference pane are specific to Firefox though. I have a screen capture that I could include if wanted. When using 1Password the pane appears, when entering a search in the search bar near the address bar the pane pops up, when entering data into any field as I am now filling in this detail report the pane also pops up. It's quite annoying. Any advice? I'm going to systematically attempt to quit any add-ons and see if that makes a difference. I ave already tried doing a reinstall to no avail.

I think a screen shot would be helpful. There is a box below the compose area of a reply to upload files.
