  • T500 2089 2KU - Display turns off automatically

Although my PowerManager is set to automatically turn off the display after two hours, mine turns off after just a few minutes and requires a fingerprint swipe to turn it back on. How can I make it behave as programmed in the PowerManager?
    Thanks.

  • IPod Nano (4th Generation) switches on when connected to USB power - shows Menu & hangs (unresponsive to click wheel) - deems off after 5-sec - Switches off after disconnecting from USB Power - syncs with iTunes - Tried 5R's - Problem still persists

    1. The iPod Nano (4th Generation - 8GB) switches on, only when connected to USB power by showing apple logo and displays Menu options thereafter..
    2. However, I can not access Menu as it is unresponsive to click wheel. As a result it is inaccessible to any further use,
    3. NOTE: it displays "Battery Fully charged" icon on the screen without any "Lock" icon.
    4. After  5-sec to 10-secs the screen deems off.. i.e. goes to sleep mode.. And thereafter would probably remain like that (sleeeping) for eternity!!!!
    5. It Switches off after WITHOUT DISPLAYING any Apple Logo immediately after disconnecting from USB Power.
    6. In other words, it can be switched on only through USB power in spite of battery being fully charged.
    7. Interestingly, it syncs with iTunes. It is recognised in iTunes (Latest version 11+).. Displays on screen all commands Like.. syncronising, connecting, connected,
    8. Allows to add Music, videos like a normal ipod & displays all status information in iTunes.
    9. Read Trobleshooting & Tried all 5R's. Registered, Resetted, updated & Restored to iOS 1.0.2
    10. It is now displaying to select Language in place of Menu options, with no access through click wheel, centre button whatsoever... Problem still persists
KINDLY GUIDE ME THE SOLUTION. APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSE in advance...

"I get the feeling that this is a software issue that could probably be solved quite easily"
Since you have already tried all the normal troubleshooting solutions, take the iPod to your nearest Apple Store for a *proper diagnosis.* The staff there will be able to confirm if your problem is software or hardware _*at no cost to you.*_

  • Satellite A500 - Battery light flashes when connected to mains power

    Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.
The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.
Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.
The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

    Hi
Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too
    However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again does it helps?
By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

  • IPhone 4S only powers up, works, when connected to wall power

Brand new iPhone 4S, arrived two days ago on the model's launch day.  Few glitches, expected w/ new phone, not a big deal, worked through them, initially did restore-type installation to transfer all info from old AT&T iPhone 3GS, still w/ AT&T.  It was working fine.
Then, connected to wall charger last night.  This morning, before disconnected from wall charger, charge showed 87%, then disconnected and screen went black.
Phone did not, and does not, respond when unconnected.
Connected iPhone to MacBook Pro, result is same as when unconnected, no response.
However, when iPhone connects to wallpower, it works fine.  Powers up, all functions seem to be normal, but noted that charge now shows only 84% and it's not going up, as it should.
I have been studying these boards today before typing this post.  Have tried the reset procedure (hold down sleep/wake + home buttons simultaneously for 30+ seconds) when iPhone is unconnected and when iPhone is connected to computer, still unresponsive.  Also tried reset procedure when connected to wall power, it eventually goes into reset mode and it eventually got to the point that it said connect to iTunes, but when I disconnect from wall power and connect to computer, it is again unresponsive.  After doing that, connected to wall power, and it powers up normally.
With iTunes open and running, the iPhone does not appear therein when connected.  Left iPhone connected to computer all morning, no changes in nonresponsiveness.  Before last night, this was not a problem.
Before I even starting using this iPhone, I'd put it in a nice, new OtterBox case.  It has not been dropped or mishandled or gotten wet.
My conclusion is that there's a hardware problem that I cannot fix, and even if I had a clue what to do, I'd probably void the warranty.
Looking for suggestions as to what to do short of calling AppleCare.  Any help will be most appreciated.

Called AppleCare this morning, confirmed that this is a hardware problem. Getting replacement.

  • I just put a new battery into my MacBook and it sometimes says Not Charging when it is connected to a power adapter.

Does anyone know what this might mean?  My battery just went down to 7 percent charge even though it had been connected to the power adapter for quite some time.  At least a few days.  I didn't notice that the battery wasn't charging.  Now it says it is charging again, but every once in a while I notice it has gone to not charging.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

Oftentimes the travel chargers connectors and pins just build up dirt and grime. When it says not charging it's able to give enough power to function but not charge. Try wiping it down with a cloth!

  • My mbp seems to "leak" current when connected to the power grid. Am I the first to notice?

My mac book seems to "leak" current when connected to the power grid. Am I the first to notice?

Grounded or not, this should not occur. Grounding is just for safety not to keep working on a leaking machine. What does Apple say about this. When I return from holiday I will contact them and find out. In the mean time thanks for the feedback.

  • Powerbook turns off when I unplugged the Power Adapter

I month or so ago I noticed that when I unplug my power adapter it turns off instead of running off the battery. I've tried resetting the PMU but I didn't work. Does anyone have any advice or does anyone know what could be the problem.

I am experiencing a similar problem to Blaise. I have owned my 15-inch Dual-Layer SuperDrive for a total of 4 days. Last night I went to move my computer from the living room (where it was plugged into the wall for approx. 5hrs) to my bedroom. So I simply pulled out the power cable and the screen went blank. At first I thought it went to sleep (which was weird even if that was true), but then I tried to wake it up. Nothing worked. So I moved it into the bedroom, plugged it in, then I basically had to power it up as if it was off. Although, since it is the new PowerBook it was still able to write the contents of RAM to the hard drive (which is a really cool new feature). So the dimmed screen had the progress bar on the bottom as the previous settings were loaded.
Anyway, my long story aside. The battery level monitor in the menu bar, now says 0%, when I unplugged it, it said 99%. The green indicators on the battery itself all light up as if it is fully charged. I also looked in system profiler, where it says the capacity is 0mAh and the total charge is 0mAh. Then I ran apple hardware test, where it told me that no battery was present but it was still able to say it experienced "10 cycles".
I have tried to reset the PMU and the PRAM, no help. I've restarted to see if it would luckily rerecognize it. But nothing has worked.
I will be venturing to the Apple Store this afternoon. I hope it is an easy fix, i.e. just a new battery. Basically the current condition of my computer, is that I need to be plugged in to use it at all.
It must be reiterated that this is a brand new machine. And the battery capacity just hours before this incident was 3639mAh (I've been checking it periodically since I got the machine to see how the battery was doing on the first couple of cycles). And it had only experienced 10 charge-drain cycles.
If anyone has any ideas to fix this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

After I slide to power off my iphone 3GS it would not turn on again.Only the apple logo comes on and then it is off. If I connect to the power the apple logo comes
and then it comes on . I have just used itunes to restore my iphone. How can I make my iphone work again?

Keep using it untill it powers off, then charge it to full to re-calibrate the battery.
If problem persist, maybe your battery needs to be replaced.

  • "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" Maverick issue!

Ever since we updated to mavericks our deployment of 60 iPad's flashes "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" on the screen every time one is plugged in. It is a false alarm because the iPad does in fact trickle charge and it does update the device like it is supposed to. At this point it's more of an annoyance then an actual problem. However I would like it to stop popping up every time one is plugged in.
Does anybody have any ideas to stop it?

Your computer USB port typically provides only 2.5W of power. iPads require 10-12W of charging power. That's why you get the "Not Charging" message. However, the iPad is charging, but much slower. There's no way to stop it.

  • How can I turn off battery charging when plugged in to power on a plane?

    Hi,
is there an app that can turn off battery charging while plugged in?
I regularly fly from Australia to Europe (22 hours on the plane!) but the power outlet usually stalls when draining too much power
(e.g. 85 Watts for my Macbook Pro battery).
    Any solutions available?
I used to just take out the battery, however, that  is not possible anymore on the Macbook Pro.
    Thanks for your help.
    Christoph

But why turn off battery charging, makes no sense in this case. You either run off the battery or plug it in and run off the battery while it is charging.
The power draw won't change appreciably.
My bad power consumption will change
It would seem the best strategy would be to get on with a fully charged battery plug in the laptop and let it trickle charge as you use it. Given the length of the flight this should give you the longest use with the minimum amount of draw from the seat outlet.

  • Computer overheats when connected to AC power

I've noticed for awhile now that my MacBook Pro tends to get extremely hot when I use it for any length of time, such that it's uncomfortable to hold in my lap. I had thought it was somewhat normal, and got a new laptop stand to dissipate the excess heat, and hadn't really worried about it since (or noticed it, now that it was never directly on my legs). However, just recently I've noticed that not only is it still getting very hot (hot enough that I can't touch it!), but that that heat is coming through on the top as well, specifically the little strip of aluminum above the keyboard. I feel like this can't be a good sign, and the computer has crashed several times in the last few months, although not necessarily always in direct correlation to this issue, that I've noticed.
Furthermore, it seems that the overheating only happens when it's plugged in to AC power. When it's unplugged and I'm using it heavily, it stays reasonably cool, but if I plug it in, even if I don't use it at all but just let it sit around running the screensaver, it gets too hot to touch. And the final thing related to all of this, in the last couple of days, sometimes when I plug the power cable in to charge it it recognizes that it's getting AC power on the menu bar, but gives the message "Not Charging". Usually it starts charging eventually, like if I turn it off, or wiggle the magsafe plug a bit, but it's not consistent.
The MBP is a 2006 model, has had a new battery since December '09 (the excessive heat predates it), and has spent the last 2.5 years in London living off of 220V power, which the adapter should've been capable of handling just fine. So yeah, anyone ever had this happen to them? I'm worried there's something wrong with the power handling capabilities of my computer, and I'm not sure what could be done about that. Thanks!
    -Jeff

Intel notebook computers tend to "feel" hot regardless of the brand, so it's important to base your definition of "too hot" on hard data and not how it feels to the touch. There are freeware programs that read the various sensors and report the actual temps. I like the Dashboard widget iStatPro, available here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
The case bottom is designed as a heat sink so it will get hot. Apple says don't use these on a lap or a pillow/blanket/anything that blocks off the case bottom. Your getting a stand helps. I use a lapboard or a chill pad when I need to use my MBP while sitting.
There is also an exhaust vent along the hinge on the back panel. This area should not be blocked.
Another thing to check is to make certain that some background process is not in a "runaway" state and needlessly eating up processor cycles. That will raise temps. Find Activity Monitor in Applications > Utilities and launch it. If you've not used AM before, the "Show" field at the top of the window is set to "My Processes" by default. Change it to "All Processes" to get a realistic view of what's happening.
Have the computer "at idle," that is, no user apps running and Dashboard inactive. If you've used DashBoard that session, wait to run AM until after a restart. Click on the column header "%CPU" to rank processes' usage from highest to lowest. No single process should be using more than one digit of the cycles (under 10 percent--on mine it's more like 5).
If you see a process that's more than 10 percent, post its name hear and we can see if there is a safe way to limit its enthusiasm.
