W530 External Moniters Flicker when opening when opening programs
So I have been having issues with all my external screens fliscker and generally freaking out anytime i open an application that utilizes the nvidia GPU (K200M in my case), such as Photoshop. While freaking out the windows, the title bars also get knocked out of whack, for example having transparency just fail for the minimize/maximize/close buttons disappearing to show what is under the window.
I have the laptop docked with screen closed and 2 U2212HM connected through the displayport connectors and a third U2212HM connected via VGA. I dont observe the issues normally on the laptop without the externals hooked up.
I have tried installing the NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver version 9.18.13.3302 / 8.15.10.2725 which supposedly

but there is no improvement. Updating ti the latest Nvidia drivers doesnt help either.

Is there any problem when you open a Word or Excel file from local drive?
Please try to add the network share location to the Trusted Location to check if it helps.
If you have any security program installed, please temporarily turn off it to test the issue again.
In addition, we can also perform a Windows clean boot to check of this issue is caused by software conflict. See:

When I try to open a project, the only option for a new track is for external MIDI device; when I try to open an audio or software instrument track, I get an error message saying that "the specified number of tracks could not be created. Ah.. then I suspect you just need to go to Logic's prefs/Audio and check CoreAudio...

I have the 5.5 Lightroom software on my I-Mac with OS-X, 10.9.3. It seems I have lost 850 pictures I was developing. It all started when was adding a folder. A new screen came up with no photos. I went back to my external drive, trying to open the folder (containing the pictures I was working on), an icon "Thumbs" came up. When I click on it, a message "can't find the application" came up, there is no picture to be found. Please help. Frustrated-George

Hello. I have a new Computer and import my mediathek with an externe storage. When opened the new Mediethek in front of every song there is a explanation mark: original song could not been found. I try everything. Whats the Problem??
But it seems the OP has a setup where the media is on the external drive, and the library files are on the internal. This is what I refer to as a split library, Migrating such from one computer to another is not straightforward. Often iTunes will have some definite idea about where the files should live, and updating the setting of the media folder won't change that. If it requires a drive letter change that is usually not too hard, but sometimes there is another preference file that needs tweaking to indicate which of the old & new layouts for the library is being used. In more extreme cases I have a script for automatically making track by track repairs.

Since the last upgrade, when the browser is open the mouse randomly clicks on things changes windows by itself. In addition highlighting things to cut and past is almost impossible... this transfers over to all open programs word, movie maker, audacity, etc... and as soon as the browser is close the problems go away... I am having this on two computers the first is a 32 Bit Vista system with a corded mouse the second is a dual boot 64 bit Win 7 and Linux Mint laptop using a Logitech cordless mouse and built in mouse pad both mouse and pad does this... in both operating systems.

Sol 1. Please try sign out from Creative cloud Desktop App and quit it.
1. Launch Creative Cloud application manager.
2. Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner and select Preferences.
3. In the Preferences menu, under General, click the Account tab.
4. Click Sign Out from Creative Cloud.
Then re-sign in and launch Photoshop CC 2014 and check.
Sol 2. Check your Hosts file.
Windows
1. Choose Start > Run, type %systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc, and then press Enter.
2. Locate Hosts file and move it to Desktop
3. Right-click the hosts file and select Open. Select Notepad for the application to open the hosts file.
4. Back up the hosts file: Choose File > Save As, save the file as hosts.backup, and then click OK.
5. Search the hosts file for entries that reference activate.adobe.com (for example, 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com) and delete these entries.
6. Save and close the file and move it back to Etc folder.
Mac OS
1. Log in as an administrator to edit the hosts file in Mac OS.
2. In a Finder window, choose Go > Go To Folder.
3. Type /etc.
4. Select the hosts file and move it on Desktop open it.
5. Back up the hosts file: Choose File > Save As, save the file as hosts.backup, and then click OK.
6. Search the hosts file for entries that reference activate.adobe.com (for example, 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com) and delete these entries.

Then try launching Photoshop CC 2014 or Illustrator CC 2014
If prompt for License this software, please click on it and sign in with the Adobe ID and Password which you have used to purchase the subscription and check if you can activate and use the products.

I just downloaded the updated software and now can't shut down open programs like I used to by holding downthe round button, having them appear at the bottom of the screen, holding them down for the "x" to appear and then closing them by clicking "x". I can get the program icons to appear, but don't know how to shut them off now.
Swipe up or drag up on the app window to close the app.

Lion always opens programs by starting even when I uncheck it
Even in the System Preferences / General I uncheck the restore function. After a reboot the unchecked field becomes checked again.
I close mannualy all my open programs before rebooting the Mac but anyway al previous closed programs are starting again.
Who knows what to do?So, I fixed it...but I'm not quite sure how. I compared, line by line, my about:config with the one on my houses main computer...only did about two screen's worth, but I changed some values to match the other computer and the problems gone!

IMovie Project from External Hard Drive not Opening?
Please help!!
Fairly new to MACs, iMovie and iDVD, I didn't have a clear understanding of how saving iMovie projects worked. Reading various tutorials, I thought I had a clear understanding of how they work. Apparently not with my recent frustration with iMovie.
I created several iMovie Projects but needed more space in order to make more projects for my internship thus I did what I thought was common sense -- get an external hard drive.
I exported iMovie projects into my user account and from there, dragged the saved projects into an external hard drive and then deleted the iMovie projects from my user account.
However, when I needed to retrieve these projects, I simply turned on my hard drive and clicked on them to open. However, whenever I tried opening them, they wouldn't open. Is it because I didn't export them to the hard drive in the first place?
What I don't understand is why iMovie is not opening or recognizing the saved iMovie projects from the external hard drive when the size and kind clearly indicate that it should open with iMovie automatically.
What is the proper way of saving my iMovie projects and events so that I can always have access to whenever I need to open up an old project or simply edit?Freeing up space on your Mac hard drive in iMovies ’08.
The application iMovie ‘08 has two main libraries displayed in the iMovie window: Events and Projects. Events are the main imports from your video camera, say. These files are big and you have the option to save them on an external hard drive and so iMovie knows to find them there. Projects are your editing instructions like what clips you want and where. The files are small and you save them on your Mac hard drive. They are NOT the clips only signposts where to find them (in Events on your external hard drive). You can move Projects to your external hard drive as back-up but iMovie will not find them there. If you then delete Projects from your Mac, iMovie can no longer make use of them unless you manually export them back into iMovie from your external hard drive. See Apple Article HT1026 iMovie '08: Moving iMovie footage to another drive (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1026). Here the external hard disk is used for moving Projects from one computer to another and, by implication, back to the source computer.
Sharing the projects to iTunes for syncing with Apple TV creates (publishes) movies that take up the same amount of space on your Mac as the source Projects. You can still burn DVDs in iDVD using the iTunes Movies as your Media so provided you have iMovie Projects backed up on your external hard drive you can delete them from your Mac and just use the iTunes Movies (for Apple TV and iDVD). In addition, publishing iMovie Projects in iTunes for syncing to Apple TV results in these files being duplicated in both Movies/iMovies Sharing/iTunes AND in iTunes/iTunes Music/Movies so delete them from here and get even more GBs back! Tell iTunes in Advanced not to save these iTunes published movies anymore in order to stop further duplication ocurring. -
How to move media and librar[ies] to external hard drive, when 'Keep organized' de-selcted
Newbie to mac, sorry for being so dense. I am nervous about my understanding of iTunes and from the many posts I’ve read realize how easily I could screw this up. Can someone point me to step by step directions for moving the actual media ‘files’, ie the mp3s, as well as the necessary library files, to an external drive, when ‘keep media organized’ and ‘copy files to media folder’ are NOT SELECTED?

From the many posts I have read, it seems there’s more to it than just drag and drop, that I need to ensure that iTunes is ‘pointed’ to somewhere? Not the mp3s themselves, but to a ‘library” [is that yet another copy of the mp3s? somewhere on my hard drive?].
Additionally, over the years I have moved about 45GB of mp3s to ‘storage’ external hard drives to create more space on my laptop. Not ideal interim solution. I am again low on space and have decided to buy new external drive for holding all of my mp3s, ie the 45 GB in ‘storage’ and the remaining 75 GB from my laptop. Ideally, I would like to also keep all my artwork, playlists and ratings and the like [which I guess are in the ‘libraries’???]
Am I correct, that I will need to also move to the new external hard drive that folder which holds the .itl and .xml files and which is named ‘iTunes’??? and then there is another step to link the ‘media’ to the ‘library’ to ‘itunes’????
Again, any clarification is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.Unfortunately you have the worst possible situation for doing this. If you let iTunes organize files you could simply let iTunes relocate them by consolidating in advanced preferences and it would all be done with a few minutes effort on your part with nothing getting lost. Organizing your own media means when you move things to a different drive iTunes will lose track of many if not all the links.
First, try simply dragging the whole iTunes folder to the external drive and start iTunes with the option/alt key held down. Guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive. If you are lucky it will move as a package. If you are not, the link locations will all be bad because it will still be looking for the files on the internal drive. It may look like it is working but get info on a file or two and see if it is still referencing the file on the internal drive or if it is really using the external drive.
When you move the files from the third drive to the new external I can almost guarantee you every single link will break. Again because you do not let iTunes organize media you can't use iTunes' own repair link feature. One solution will be to take the old .xml file and open it in a text editor. Do a global replace of the old drive path with the path to the location of the files on the new drive. Now if all your old links broke for the main library you will have to do this for both the main library on the new drive as well as the relocated files from the main drive. Now this is really starting to get messy and I am going to fade at any minute now because it is getting late. If you needed to do this for all files go ahead and create a new library using the option key method mentioned earlier, then import the .xml into the new library. If you only need to edit the third drive files then remove any references to the old main library files in this edited .xml and import just the edited third drive file references. See? Isn't that all nice and clear? Oh, realize that the .xml does not contain 100% of the information in the .itl (you cannot edit the .itl). You will lose ratings, play count, date added. Ratings and play count can be saved using other tricks which would take about as much typing as I have done already so I won't go there unless they are absolutely critical to you. -
Screen flicker when dragging documents
Does anyone experince screen flicker when dragging files from the Finder to the Desktop?

I connected an external monitor to my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't open any programs. It Just sits there with a blank screen. How do I get it to open programs and act like a monitor?

It sounds like you are trying to get your external monitor to act as the primary viewing screen. For example it would have your Doc, Icons, Etc. In order to make the external monitor the primary screen you have to:
Open System Preferences.
Choose the Displays Icon
There will be several tabs to choose from pick Arrangement
Drag the toolbar to desired display

I have all my music on my external hard drive when I try to add it to iTunes it is automatically added to my MacBook Pro's hard drive. How do I stop this from happening? I just want the music to stay on the external hard drive. Thanks!
This is true of course, but doesn't cover the situation where some files are in the iTunes Media folder and others are on an external drive. In my case I keep my music in the Media folder and all my films on an external drive (there are too many to have on the internal drive). In iTunes 11, and before, it was easy to add those external files by holding down the alt/opt key while dragging to the sidebar. In iTunes 12 this is no longer possible. There are several workarounds: use TuneSpan to move the file after it's been added; delete the file from the Media folder and empty the trash then use iTunes Get Info which will report the file is missing and allow you to locate it; constantly switch the Add to iTunes toggle on and off as required. All of these require a lot more work than just holding down the alt/opt key while adding.
It constantly gets harder.
