W530: GPU Fan Won't Stop After Starting

Hello all,
I'm the proud owner of a brand of the W530, which I'm absolutely loving.
One of the greatest things is how absolutely cool the laptop stays. And after much tinkering with TPFanControl, I've decided just to let the BIOS do it's thing and keep my laptop at a constant 40C temperature, even if it means having the fan on 2700RPM all the time.
One annoying little problem, though, is the apparent inability to control the GPU fan.
Once the GPU fan starts (say for example, I play a game for a short while), it will NEVER stop.
As I never turn off my laptop, and simply sleep it when not in use, this becomes incredibly annoying, as I'm having the loud GPU fan always running, even though there is no need for it to be.
Is this a problem with my computer or is this just the way these things are designed? Also, is there a way to manually tweak the GPU fan? (Although this is really stupid, I think we should be past the era where it becomes my job to manually set the fan everytime I want to use it for something, technology should be more advanced in this era)

Fan won't stop running

Early 2008 27 inch iMac running latest version of Lion.
I had a hard drive that kept corrupting files (not the original HD, been replaced once by apple) so I replaced it with a new (ish) 1 Tb WD green. But after I did this my fan won't stop running. I thought I had disturbed the HD temp sensor so I opened it back up again and made sure it was properly on the HD closed it but still constant fan.

Um, OK. I've just realized that the fan isn't running any more, and I've been using it for a couple of hours. I'm not sure if I should do anything else or just not look a gift horse in the mouth. Anyone have an opinion?

Fan won't stop on my iMac

I have a 2011 iMac (21.5") and the fan won't stop running at full blast. I've spoken with Applecare support, and done all the steps... Which were:
1) SMC reset - performed three times
2) PRAM reset
3) Left the computer off overnight
4) Checked activity monitor - Nothing is open, and the actual activity monitor was the process taking up the most CPU, which was only 2%.
5) My hard drive is nowhere NEAR full - I still have 400GB/500GB available.
The computer functions properly, but the fan is just going non-stop. What could the issue be? I will definitely have to bring this in to the genius bar, but this is my father's computer and he isn't available during business hours to take this in. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks for the help.

Try running the Extended Apple Hardware Test to see if it has a hardware (thermal sensor or SMC) problem. It won't fix the problem, but it may help you understand and guide the service tech to the problem.

WebLogic 10.3.5.0 won't stop or start propperly after Jdev upgrade

Greetings,
Our developers have installed Weblogic with Jdeveloper. Now I'm trying to setup a production environment and use only the ADF runtime version.
From download ADF runtime is only available in version 11.1.1.6.
With this I was able to start and stop WebLogic, login to the console thru http or https.
Now I've done the upgrade to ADF 11.1.2.3 using $MW_HOME/wlserver_10.3/common/bin/config.sh.
The weblogic process does start, but the console doesn't show. Not on client nor server (Oracle Linux 6.3).
When I use stopWebLogic.sh to stop WebLogic , I get :
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space.
I've set the MaxPermSpace in setDomainEnv.sh to 4096m. Still it seems the MaxPermSize value is not used.
After this error, the java process remains. The java process :

After start, the logs keep silent.
The server has 8Gb fysical memory.
In top the java process takes 1,6Gb of memory.

My cooling fan won't stop kicking in on Mac Pro

Suddenly in the last week or so my cooling fan started kicking in while over the past 2+ years it has only run once or twice - now it won't stop!
I thought that it may have been due to an increase in RAM from 7G to 24G (3, 8G matched sticks) but after un-installing the 24G it was still running frequently, though not as much.
I have performed (in order) both a PRAM and SMC reset. I have also repaired all discs, reset permissions and dumped render files (I primarily use my Mac for video editing in FCP X).
I am fearing now that this may in fact be due to recent updates to Lion (10.7.3) or FCP X (10.0.3)
In an attempt to get FCP X to run better (there are many bugs in the latest update as evidenced by numerous posts in that discussion area) I also contacted NVIDIA for updates to my graphics card and was told by them that it is not compatible with Lion. I now have a Radeon card on order from the Apple store.
Any other advice?? This fan is not only an annoyance for me but as I also record voice-overs for my clients I simply cannot have it running all the time.

Only if the RAM is "defective" or "boarderline" would a new OS trigger an issue. But then someone else jumped to same conclusion when they upgraded to Lion recently and had been running Snow Leopard for awhile.
Every new OS brings some changes and some RAM will fail and fall to the wayside but the only way to know is trial and error; to get the vendor to replace and test.
Sometimes the RAM has been loosely seated. Sometimes the OS seems to be potential culprit (doesn't happen with clean install).
A USB or Firewire cable can be enough, too, even if just plugged and not attached to a powered on device.
You can even try two 8GB DIMMs and leave one out and see if process of elimination is of any value, or even boot wtih just a single DIMM. You don't need to have two or more.
But I would not mix 8GB with others, sounds like you had 3 x 2GB + 1GB, or 3 x 1GB + 4GB which would look and sound to be more iffy than your new set.
Btw, where did you get new set?

MBPro 1.1 Fans begin and stop after 2 seconds at 160. No fans lower than 160.

I've been doing a lot of research on the MBP fan issues. A lot seem to be snubbed out. Although; I haven't quite found what my problem is anywhere. When I boot up my fans kick on high rpms and then quit after about 5 seconds. After that I have a 0rpm reading from iStat and SMCfan control. Not until my laptop begins to get hot and the temperature reads around 160 do the fans start working with a 5000rpm reading, but they stop after 2 seconds. It's similar to the mooing problem of the past, but I have zero fan activity before 160.
Any help would be great.

Also when I remove the battery the fans run continuously at a high rpm. Also iStat and SMC fan control do not recognize the rpms

Fans won't stop?

I recently changed the hard drive in my iMac. All went fine but now the fans will not stop blowing. They start about 10mins after restarting even though I am barely using the machine.
I checked the forums and have done the Resetting the SMC thing but it did not stop the fans blowing. wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?

HELP!!!! fone won't proceed after start up page

hope u can help me. my bb won't proceed after the startup page. its just white w/ the blackberry logo in it.. what should i do?

Do you have a good recent backup of the data on the device? If not, I HIGHLY suggest that you try make a back first with the device only at the startup screen, start the BlackBerry Desktop Software (do you have that installed on your PC?) and IF the device connects and appears in the Desktop Software, do that backup.
Otherwise, proceed as below:
1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.

2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."

Color wheel in itunes won't stop after syncing to my phone. Help!

I synced my iphone to my MacBook Pro last night and the color wheel still won't stop or disappear. Why does it do this and what can I do to make it stop? Does it have anything to do with iPhoto?

I moved the app and Library; I ended up removed all iTunes stuff(except) Library and reinstalled it. It now starts fresh....transferred stuff over however......I can't sync my iPhone...it says there another Library already synced....how do I know which one, I have a few(my fault).
Can I get these cleaned up somehow?

Fans won't stop with new processor

I just had one of my dual processors changed out. I brought it home and turned it on. The fans will not stop running. I called the tech and was told that this is normal for about an hour? That was yesterday and the fans still run. Any ideas?

The techs should have run a thermal recalibration on the fans when they changed the processor. Sounds like they didn't do that. Take it back to them and have them perform that step.
The fans shouldn't run any more after the service than they did before.

IMac Retina fans are loud direct after starting – is that normal?

After starting up my iMac and without doing anything the fan(s) raising speed after just about 10 seconds ...
I´m wondering if this is normal ???

T420 Fan doesn't stop after stress even 40 °C CPU temp

Hi,
i have a little Problem after the exchange of my 500GB HD that was totaly noisy i have now the problem that the
fan of my T420 doesn't like to stop after some little stress.
for Example i'm running Prime95 for some minutes to simultate Compiling Stress.
In idle the system has someting around 40 °C. With Prime the Temp goes to 80-81 °C (no Turbo just 2.5 GHz)
after stopping the stress the temp drops back to 50 °C in about 40 sec
after a minute and a half its back to 43-44 °C but the fan is still running @ 3600 U/min
the fan then after about 10-15 minutes has cooled down to 35-36 °C but
even at 35-38 °C the fan isn't stopping anymore still running with 3600 U/min
anything i can do about this without 3. party tools? BIOS is now 1.46 but will still not regulate the fan down
if i wait a realy long time it sometimes stops the fan but this isn't a solution ^^
the noisy HDD nearly as loud then the fan @3600 isn't a Warenty reason or is it?

I have the same issue, also suspected it might be a problem with linux.

Forms process won't stop after closing the browser

I am running the Forms (904) in the application server. When I close the browser, the forms process (on the server) ifweb90.exe won't stop on the server.
Is there a message that can be catched when the browser is closed? thanks.

the forms processes on the middle tier will stop when the listener servlet recognises that the client applet doesn´t exist anymore.
The amount of time the listener servlet needs to recognize that the client applet doesn´t exist anymore depends on the "heartbeat" and the "timeout" Parameters configured in the formsweb.cfg Configuration File of the Oracle Webforms Installation.
Normally you don´t have to worry about these parameters their default values will fit the most environments.
