W530 intermittent battery not installed

OK, I purchased my W530 to replace a 2 yr old Sony Vaio.  I bought the 530 because it had Win7 pro and enough power to run Solidworks.  From the day I received it, I thought it was faulty because the battery would not be "recognized".  Message and icons say "battery not installed".  I HAD to go on a biz trip to Asia that week, so I had no time to send back to the NewEgg reseller.  I lived with the machine simply plugged in all the time.
I once , while plugged in and booted up, turned the laptop over, and uncoupled the battery, then snapped it back in.  Turned the unit back over and wow, the battery was recognized and showing full charge.  Great!  I could even unplug the AC, and the battery worked fine.
Next day,  tried to boot from battery, and nothing.  So back onto the AC, and boots fine. Battery lcon grayed out, with "battery not installed" in the mouseover popup.  Tried my "trick" once more, but this time nope.
One note:  the battery unit, 70++, does "jiggle" a bit when snapped into the W530.  Not a lot.  It's locked in and can't fall out, but it can slide out about  .015 to .020 inch.
Anyone else have this problem with W530?   Other than the battery issue,  I really do like this unit, fast, handles Solidworks rendering well,  and like the features so far.

No, it's completely intermittent.  Plus with only a slight bit of wiggle,  not sure how to "hold" it in place.  I did try shimming with 6 post-it notes, just to one side or the other.  No change.   Now getting BSOD's with a message saying something about display driver and timeouts,  then it'll do a "dump"  and reset, so I can only guess at what it says is the cause of the BSOD.
Just sitting on my desktop,  the battery chaged and recognized at 100% (green),  and later it'll show a white colored battery icon with a red x in the middle of it.  Sometimes I get a message saying it's not a genuine Lenovo battery.  Sometimes I get a message that says it's not recognized.
Nice laptop.  But I'm wondering if through NewEgg I actually bought  what we who travel much to China call,  a "Tribute" version of theW530.  In other words,  Looks like a Lenovo,  feels like a Lenovo, but is actually a copy....I can deal with the battery acting funny, although for the price I paid I shouldn't have to deal,  but the BSOD's are really causing me some worry.
Thanks for asking

  • Battery not installed after update

I just updated my ThinkPad W520 using the System Update utility and after rebooting I realize that the battery icon is totally gray and shows the message "Battery not installed".
Checking the installations log of System Update I see
     -Lenovo Power Management Driver  1.67.04.05
-Power Manager for Windows 7    6.66.1
And the Windows battery icon shows the info correctly
Is there any way to unninstall the updates?

I have applied the same updates and the battery icon shows correctly on my W520. Are you using an OEM battery?

  • T540p Energy Manager shows "Battery not installed"

Strange issue with my T540p: After having the machine running for the whole day unattended on mains power I come back to a grey Battery symbol with a mouse-over "battery not installed". The battery provides power, as the computer continues to run when disconnected from mains. Shutdown, taking out battery, wait does not change anything. The machine is a Win 7 x64 Power Manager and drivers installed via Lenovo Systems update, dirvers are current, no new available. Did anybody experiance this issue?

Thank you for your reply, richk! I have tried numerous things, restart, with battery either connected to the mains or not, restart without battery but with mains , taking out battery while it was running. I checked, whether there are old Software/Drivewr packages with the software recommended by ColonelONeil, checked for new drivers, reinstalled energy manager - same thing... Is thereany software, i can use to check whether there is communication with the battery? By the way, I see a new BIOS version, but I can not install as the process requires a "fully charged battery"...

  • Battery not installed

    Hi,
    I've got a T60 that's almost 2 years old.
Just recently I noticed the PowerManager Gauge occasionally turn grey while connected to the power supply, showing the message "Battery not installed." A few minutes later gauge will turn green again and display the battery charge.
Is it likely to be a bad connection to the battery? It's a genuine Lenovo battery that runs still lasts a good few hours when running off the battery.
Has anyone experienced similar problems, or know of any tools I can use to test the problem?
    Thanks!

I'm just getting this problem too - any luck with you chaps in fixing it? Battery seems to function fine, just the monitoring that is gubbed.

  • Battery not installed message on X200T

    Hi
I have a fully functioning Thinkpad X200T with a working battery.
I've been given a similar 8 cell new battery.  It must be OEM or 3rd party as it doesn't have the same markings as the original battery.
When I plug it in, Lenovo Power Manager says "battery not installed".
Is there anyway to see if this thing works?
    Thanks

if there are no markings on your new battery, then it most likely to be an aftermarket thing. Furthermore, if the new battery doesn't seem to get recognised while the old one does, then i suggest you don't use the new battery to prevent any damages to the laptop.

  • Power Manager claims "Battery not installed"

System info:  T530, Windows 7 SP1, Power Manger 6.36, Power Managment driver 1.66
Following a suggestion in another thread (to solve a Power Manager/Windows Explorer crash), I upgraded to Power Manager 6.36/driver 1.66.  Now Power Manager claims (via taskbar icon and within the Power Manager app itself) "Battery not installed"
    Solution, please.

I'll try the download but I have a couple of concerns.  First, I upgraded to 6.32 in order to try and resolve another problem - Power Manager crashed when I tried execute a Windows Explorer "search"; it subsequently caused Windows Explorer to crash.  I'm not eager to just trade one problem for another.  Second, I need you to pass a message back up the management chain.
As a customer, it frustrates me immensely to have to try test-and-debug procedures which ought to be done by Lenovo QA personnel.  I would feel a bit more positive if I could be certain that Lenovo QA had configured a machine like mine and tried to reproduce the problem themselves.  It's bad enough that I'm spending hours - of "vacation", time, no less - to try and resolve Lenovo product defects, but worse, I'm not getting paid for it.  (And yes, I do happen to know what qualified senior QA engineers get paid.)

  • Thinkvantage Toolbox Reports Battery Not Installed

    Hi All,
I'm having a problem with ThinkVantage Toolbox. I keep getting an error that my battery is not installed even though Lenovo power manager 3 shows it as installed and in good condition. I've run all updates from system update 4 but it didn't resolve the issue. I've tried removing and reinstalling all Lenovo Thinkvantage tools but that didn't help either. I did replace the battery about a year ago through IBM but this issue didn't start happening until a month or so ago.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've not heard about LTT not seeing the battery, so reinstalling it might be worth a try...
This KB article might generically address what to do if the battery was not longer seen by the system, but not sure it would help since you indicate that power manager already sees the battery.
    Good suggestions Serge1410...

  • Message "Battery Not Installed" when it is

When I run RAID Admin, it shows that the left battery is not installed. However, the green light is on in that battery. Any idea why that would be?
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

  • New W540 Battery not installed error

    Hello ,
I have a new out of the box W540 and on the first startup i have battery failure...
On Power Manager i have a ''No battery is installed''.
I have made all updates no error on system manager
    Any ideas...

It might be a problem with Power manager. Go to the Support site and download Power Manager and Hotkey features intergration from below link
    http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-w-series-laptops/thinkpad-w54...
Reboot laptop into Safe mode and uninstall power manager and hotkey driver. Reboot laptop again in normal mode and install Hot-key first then install Power Manager and check then see if the battery is working.
If still issue exists, please take your battery out. Then power up with AC only. Power down, unplug AC and hit power button ten times. Then install your battery pack, plug in AC and power up and check.

  • X120e "Battery not installed"

I am suddenly unable to read the state of my battery, power manager tells me there's no battery installed, and the windows battery gauge does not work either. I can still run on battery power fine, but I have no idea if it's charging or not at this point and obviously I can't tell when it's about to die. I have reinstalled power manager, and done a system restore to an earlier date but to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

    BigMcLargeHuge,
This seems an odd one...a few suggestions...
    1) Try to clear everything... shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery.  Press and hold power button several times for several seconds each time.   Then re-install battery and AC and restart and see if battery now reports...
    2) Uninstall and reinstall power manager.  ( I know you said you have reinstalled already - just trying to completely remove and then re-install)
    3) Check BIOS version.  Are you running 1.16?   I don't see anything in BIOS change log about fixes to battery firmware, but it might not hurt.
Confirm that you are using a Lenovo battery?  (The original, I assume?)  It seems really odd that the battery will still provide power, but does not report its condition.

  • Start-up issue. Secondary battery not installed.

Hi guys, I have an issue with my laptop, it's a pavilion Dv6. It never boots. When the problem started I got a message telling me that the secondary battery needs to be replaced and it stopped working. I tried the battery test, and the primary battery passes yet the secondary battery fails. I went as far as changing the cmos battery, yet there was no difference. Please help me identify what this issue is, because I just can't seem to find this secondary battery, the computer stores close by have no idea what I am taking about too.

Contact the seller for some PSU troubleshooting tips, if you have a digital multimeter you can measure some of the voltages in the socket from the PSU.
When I first installed my new PSU I still had no power up at all.  The seller suggested removing everything: PCI cards, video card, RAM, disconnect optical and hard drive IDE cables and power molex plugs, PRAM battery.  Try booting up the machine then force shut down by holding down power button 5 secs.  Add one thing back at a time and try again.  Then I ran the Apple Hardware Test, quick and extended test passed.
Since I replaced my PSU my MDD has been shutting down and starting up just fine.   There was another recent thread here about that.

  • Battery not recognized, not charging, but not dead...AC plugged in

My MacBook recently had a dilemma of not turning on. I went to the Apple Store and the Genius Bar tech guy fixed it with a SMC/PMU whatever power reset process it's called. Now my computer turns on, it just doesn't recognize the battery. The tech guy said my battery isn't dead, it just needs to be recharged. I'm kinda concerned that he didn't bother solving the issue at the store or try to tell me what is wrong. The computer only runs off the AC adapter, but sometimes when i plug it in the MagSafe connector will quickly flash green and orange repeatedly over and over and the battery status icon will go between X and 0% or from "No batteries recognized" to "Battery not charging" or "Charging not complete". This only happens occasionally. It also might say "Calculating..." but it will always go from one of these things then back to "No battery recognized" super fast repeatedly for a long while.
Also, when i close my MacBook, it won't go to sleep immediately like it used to. So if i close it then unplug it to take it somewhere, it shuts down as opposed to sleeping. I know if it gets unplugged it might shut down cause lack of battery recognition, but why won't it sleep when i close it?
I installed the Battery Update thingy for MacBooks and i don't think it did anything whatsoever. The AC cord works, the battery works, just not together on my laptop. I'm guessing while it was in it's permanent shut down state before i went to Apple Genius Bar, it must have drained the battery power, because i pushed the button when it didn't turn on the first time and it was fully charged with five green lights, then over the next two days i kept checking it and it slowly decreased until it is now a single flashing green light. It had two green lights when i went to the store, but after i got it "fixed" it stopped recognizing the battery.
I've had this laptop for nearly two years now, and it has survived a lot. I read many forums/threads about battery failure in other MacBooks like mine, bought around the same time as mine, but my issue is a mix of all the different problems.
For example, I have the same issues as these people did with their macbooks, but none of their solutions helped me:
"my battery logo alternates between telling me the percentage and most of the time showing an 'X' in the battery, it says no batteries recognized. it even does it with the charger connected!"
"The battery has a single, rapidly flashing, light when I press the button on it."
"But it never is able to calculate a time, and if you disconnect the power, the computer immediately shuts down."
"When I take out and reinsert the battery, it'll recognize it for a minute, flash in and out of orange, and than it will say no battery available."
"In system profiler it says there's no battery installed, and the little LED lights on the bottom of the battery don't do a thing. It's as if the battery is not installed, yet it is."
"My macbook has stopped working when not plugged in. The battery is installed but in profiler it says battery: not installed. Also there are no lights on the battery to show it charging. In the menu at the top of the desktop the battery has an X in it."
"my laptop doesn't recognize my battery-- it only runs on the wall charger. I've tried popping the battery out, then back in. When the laptop isn't plugged in and I push the battery's little button, the first light flickers briefly for a second or two and then shuts off."
"I turned on my Macbook with AC power after returning holidays. I realized it couldn't charge itself, and the battery indicator showed "X" with "No batterries available.""
I searched everywhere for a solution. But it seems like i'll have to return to the Apple Store and get it fixed that way. Here's the computer info anyway:

Do you have AppleCare? It seems to me you need a new battery but obviously we can't tell how bad the battery is unless you get that battery info while it is recognized.
Try another SMC/PRAM reset and get that info. Call AppleCare about your issue if the Apple Store won't give you a new battery. (Depends how many cycles you have).

  • Intel Wireless Display not installing on W530

I noticed recently that Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) was not installed on my W530, despite my recollection of installing it via Lenovo Update.  So I tried downloading the latest version both from Lenovo (3.5) and directly from Intel (4.0), but neither will install on my system.  During the install, I get a message saying "This platform is not compatible with Intel WiDi or the application is in use. Please see the log for more details."  Now, since I have an Intel i7 CPU with HD 4000 integrated graphics and an Intel wireless card (Centrino Ultimate 6300), my system meets the system requirements for WiDi.  i have also updated the Intel PROSet wireless software to the most recent version, as recommended by Intel's website.
Kaso suggested on the Notebook Review forums that this could happen if I clean installed Windows instead of booting from the Lenovo-supplied OEM image, since there may be specific registry keys or values that signify the system supports WiDi.  As i did clean-install Windows, I'm wondering if anyone knows what those specific registry keys or values might be, so I can add them in.
And if anyone has a different idea why WiDi won't install on my system, I'd appreaciate your input as well.  Thank you.
Thinkpad W530, i7-3720QM, 1920x1080 screen, 32GB RAM, dual SSDs (Samsung 830, Crucial M4 mSATA), Quadro K2000M, 9-cell battery, DVD burner, backlit keyboard, Bluetooth, Intel 6300 wireless card

I have had a number of difficulties with Intel WIDI aswell on my W530. And I will give you a few recommendations.
I recently clean installed my windows and used the Lenovo update tool to install and update all drivers. Then I installed the WIDI app from the lenovo page (3.5 something). Then it works like a charm. My windows reinstall is some coorporate reinstall. So it is not Lenovo generic windows.
You cannot install WIDI for some reason if you have your computer connected to any monitors or in the dock. I think it has something to do with the installer having difficulties with recognizing the Intel HD 4000 when you are at the same time using the NVIDIA GPU.
I have tried a lot of different combinations/versions of WIDI, Intel proset and HD4000 drivers before the reinstall and not all of them work. First I updated all the drivers and it did not work, then I rolled back the drivers and it still did not work. Finally I got it to work after hours of work. But I do not remember what versions I used when it did finally work. After the windows reinstall everything works.
    I am using:
    Intel WIDI 3.5.40
    Intel HD 4000: 9.17.10.2843
    Intel Proset: 15.6.1.0
I am very hesitant upgrading any of the drivers/apps because I fear it will cause problems with WIDI.
Let me know if you have any questions. Perhaps I am able to answer those.
I should perhaps mention that WIDI is not exactly the perfect technology. I have a brand new LG TV with WIDI, but I still encounter pixelations and other stuff once in a while, but I think it has something to do with my router (which is in another room) and a lot of WIFI noise in my apartement building with a lot of different WIFI connections.
A moment ago I launched WIDI to look for the version number and this is what I saw. So perhaps I need to update something today. I will look into it when I get home where my TV is.
