W530 keyboard replacement?

Hello!
I'm a first time thinkpad user. I received my W530 yesterday, and I am very happy with it. there is one thing with the keyboard though; I picked the wrong layout. Unfortunately I havent got enough money to buy a new backlit keyboard with the US layout (mine right now is NL, dutch). Is there any way I can get the keyboard replaced or send it back to lenovo for a replacement keyboard? This is a real bummer, and a stupid mistake. Typing right now is horrible. I searched across the board, and saw some posts about calling the IBM services and such.
Any tips? Thanks!
(sorry for posting this in the wrong board, if so)
EDIT: If it matters, I can replace the keyboard myself if needed.

As far as i know, the service department doesn't allow replacement of keyboard based on language preferences. i.e. changing from one language layout to another.
You would have to source the keyboard from elsewhere.

  • Replace W520 keyboard with backlit W530 keyboard?

Is it possible to replace the keyboard on a W520 with an equivalent, backlit W530 keyboard?
    Solved!

It is not possible to do a direct hardware replacement. The bezel is different and the scan codes for the keyboard (which are supported by the BIOS) are different on the keyboards.

  • W530 keyboard flex

    Hello,
Previously I have posted a question concerning replacing the keyboard on the W530, even though this has nothing to do with the issue I am experiencing now. I am aware of the fact that I am not the only one that is experiencing keyboard flex in the left section of the keyboard. But when I press with a tad of force, I actually hear how the back of the keyboard hits the fan (which concerns me badly.)
Upon ordering, the only change I made in hardware on the official lenovo website was choosing the option to put in a backlit keyboard (which resulted in longer shipping, etc etc). I am wondering if this flex and fan hitting thing are normal things, and perhaps caused by the thinkpad being opened up and having the keyboard replaced with another one?
    Thanks in advance!

    When does it turn off?
I pressed Fn+Space to turn it on now (in the low intensity mode).
After that I left the W530 on the sofa while watching TV.
Now, 15 minutes later, the backlit keyboard is still lit...
1h later I see that it is black, and so is the screen. So I think the keyboard backlight turn off when the enery saving scheme takes effect.
After it has been turned off, a new Fn+Space is needed to turn it on again.

  • Trackpad click bar not working correctly after getting a keyboard replacement.

I just got my whole keyboard replaced two days ago due to a sticking "m" problem on my 2008 macbook pro.  They didn't replace my trackpad, but now, it seems that my trackpad clicker will only respond if I apply a lot of pressure to the middle of the upper edge of the bar.  If I click anywhere else on the bar, the bar is completely unresponsive.  It makes clicking and dragging nearly impossible. I once had this problem when I had a bulging battery, but the battery is fine now.  Could something have happened when they replaced the keyboard? It can't be coincidence...  Is there a home remedy?  I know they will want to replace it if I take it in, and my old maching has been off warranty for a while now.

Either a misalignment or a cable is not properly connected.
Since they just "fixed" the keyboard I'd say take it back as they most likely caused this problem.
If you want to do it yourself, iFixit could be particularly useful:

  • IBook G4 Keyboard Replacement

Does anyone know how much a replacement keyboard will cost for an iBook G4 (14 in)? Also, if someone knows of a site that sells them can I have the link?

    Hi there:
Several places (online - search) have iBook G4 14" or 12" - replacement
keyboards; one such place has both the item, their asking price and a
link to supposedly help remove and replace it, here:
"G4 iBook Keyboard Replacement - White Ice - New..."
    http://www.powerbookmedic.com/G4-iBook-Keyboard-Replacement---White-Ice---New-p- 16595.html
Companies who sell parts, and also provide repair services may also be
good places to inquire; one such could be wegenermedia.com and they
also have a toll-free number (during regular business hours) & real people.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Would a Top Case keyboard replacement for Macbook Unibody A1342 (US version), be compatible w/my Macbook if originally it had a Japanese version?

I bought a Macbook Unibody back in 2010, and until now the system is still working perfectly fine, probably because I keep on updating my software version, currently I am on Mac OS X 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)...I don't have issues with it.
I bought this Macbook in Japan, the keyboard version is on Japanese (with US alphabets) becaue I was studying Kanji back then, and apparently I am now living here in the Philippines and some of my keyboard keys are lost and they were taken off by my naughty niece (LOL, couldn't blame her though... she's just 2 years old)... now I am looking for a replacement. I couldn't find Japanese version of Top Case replacements here in Manila... now I kinda realized I might as well use a US version moving forward.
Now my question is re: Top Case keyboard replacement for Macbook Unibody A1342 (US version), would it be compatible w/my Macbook if originally it had a Japanese version?
Thanks in advance for all the help & informations. I would really appreciate it before I buy a replacement.
Have a good one guys! ^_^)Y

but it has been dropped a bit.

All the problems are likely related. Better get it to an Apple service rep and be aware that any warranty does not cover abuse of the product.

  • Macbook Pro 13'' late 2011 (A1278) logic board I/O to keyboard replacement

I splashed a cup of coffee on my keyboard last year, the keyboard then became sticky. So I resembled everything and replaced a new topcase.
But after that, the SPACE, DELETE, TAB and SHIFT keys of the new topcase were not function, which bring me a huge inconvenience. Now I have to place a new bluetooth keyboard on top of the laptop like... this:
If some unimportant keys were not function, well, that's Ok for me, but the SPACE key and DELETE key... I'd like to say my keyboard is nothing but decoration on my laptop.
I think the i/o parts which is soldered on the logic board was corroded by coffee. I can see some coffee strain / tiny coffee grain inside it. See, I marked it out in pic below. This i/o part is connected with keybaord.
I have no way to get it out and put a new one on the logic board, there are lots of tiny wires and I have no tools to solder it and I don't know where to get the parts..
So can anyone give me some suggestions? or tell me which company can do this kind of thing in a reasonable price? Thanks! I don't wanna use my laptop in this stupid way.

Seems no one notice this post and nobody has interested.

  • Keyboard replacement.??

Got a used s9 4067 off ebay.  2 keys missing.  I just decided to replaced the keyboard.  Hopefully I'll win the bid on ebay.
Any how if I do I need to replace the whole keyboard and not just the keys.  Can't find any info on google, etc.
Anyone know how to replace the keyboard?  Thanks.

    Hi ideapad_s9_4067,
Congratulations on that S9 purchase of yours. The nearest service manual we have available for that model would be for the S9e. To remove the keyboard you will have to remove the battery pack, hard disk drive, and the palm rest assembly. Details of the parts removal can be seen on the download link below. Please exercise caution when replacing parts and be sure to follow the guidelines listed under Before Servicing Ideapad S9e, S10e, and S10 under page 55 of the service manual.
Here is the link for the download S9e, S10e, and S10

  • Satellite U840-10U - keyboard replacement

Does somebody knows how to replace the keyboard to a satellite u840-u by myself? It looks to be just glued but don't know for sure. Also, my keyboard is not backlit, does it would be if replaced by one of the U series backlighted?

    Hi
As far as I know some Satellite U840 models has been equipped with backlight keyboard.
But from my knowledge the backlight keyboard requires additional power connector (CN20).
I guess not all U840 motherboards would support such connector and therefore the backlight keyboard upgrade would not be possible.
    Regarding the keyboard removal:
Yes I think the keyboard is pasted to top case by double adhesive. If you would disassemble the keyboard from the top case, the keyboard would deform and could not be used again.
In my opinion you should not try to remove anything. You would void the warranty and could damage other parts. I think such disassembling procedure should be done by authorized service engineer.
