W530 print dialog freezes the program

Hi,
For the past two days I have encountered strange issues.
I am trying to print out documents or images either from MS word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe acrobat reader or Firefox. No matter which program I use, the moment I click print, the program freezes without bringing up the printing dialog box. I am unable to figure out the issue.
I have additional issues with MS office where certain functions freeze the program from time to time. For example, when I try to change the font type or size, the program would freeze. This requires me to try a couple of restarts or a fresh reinstall of the program. I believe these are bugs relating to my laptop as the same programs (from the same discs) are installed on my home desktop and they work flawlessly.
FYI, I have made the following changes to my W530
1. I have replaced the original 500GB 7200RPM primary hard disk with 240GB OCZ Vertex4 SSD. The 500GB hard disk has been moved to the CD ROM bay to serve as a 2nd HDD.
2. I have increased the RAM to 16 GB.
Apart from these changes it retains the original settings. It runs a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
Any help to solve this issue is gratefully acknowledged

To narrow down the list of possible issues, it may be a good idea to boot the system into Safe Mode and try the same steps as before and see if the issue still occurs. The printers will not load in safe mode, so you would not be able to print to them anyway. But I am curious to see if the print dialog will still make the computer hang.
To boot into safe mode, either restart your computer or start from a cold boot. Begin tapping F8 at the splash screen and continue to tap the button until a menu appears. One of the options on this menu should be Safe Mode with Networking. Select this option and the computer will boot. Some features are removed from Safe Mode, so the display will likely look very different, but it is normal. Run the steps in this mode and see what happens.

Print dialog freezes randomly with HP driver

Using the HP LaserJet 3330 MFP - Gutenprint v5.1.3 driver.
Occasionally when I, or my colleagues with Macs, try to print from any application, Carbon or Cocoa to this particular printer, the print dialog freezes. By freezes, I mean that the dialog comes up, and you cannot click any button or change any text. The only solution is to kill the app then logout and log back in to get it to function again.
Any ideas how to solve this? It is repeatable on different computers, although we can't find a specific pattern to the occurrence.

Thank you for your suggestions. I downloaded a more recent version of Twain, but this didn't help. I also tried closing and opening Photo Shop and restarting my computer without success. Reinstalling Photo Shop sounds like a very promising solution, but I'm not sure I will do it. In the meantime I can scan items using a printer program. These scans open in Photo Shop. It is an extra step.

Since downloading Mavericks nearly everytime I attempt to print it crashes the program I want to print from. Any ideas how to fix?

Terminal command to make expanded print dialog box the default

I saw this somewhere back under Tiger, but I can't remember where.
I need to know the terminal command to make the expanded print dialog box the default. I'm getting tired of clicking the blue arrow to expand the box.
If anyone can direct me, I'd sure appreciate the help!

Acrobat 9 Mac Print dialog freezes

I haven't been able to print from Acrobat 9 Pro for Mac for about many months. I can open the Print dialog box and change settings, but as soon as I click the Print button, Acrobat freezes and I have to force quit. (More accurately, the Print dialog box can be dragged around, but even if I switch to a different app, like the Finder, the Print dialog box stays open -- Print button no longer flashing. Nothing prints, and the dialog box cannot close until I force quit.)
Even worse, it happens when I print a PDF from Safari, too! It's been driving me crazy, and I've tried a ton of different troubleshooting techniques.
Currently using 9.2.0 on Mac OS 10.5.8. Not sure when the problem started, but I've done a number of Acrobat and OS updates since then, always hoping that one will fix it. No luck.
I thought it was the free version of Font ExplorerX from linotype that I've been using far, far too long. When I quit that, it seemed to work once... but now even without that running it's crashing. So perhaps it was a fluke.
Also, sometimes it works if I hit the Print button really quickly after the dialog box opens. That's even weirder.
Yes, I have removed the printer driver and reinstalled.
Frustrated. (I usually just open the pdf in Preview and print, or place it in InDesign and print. But sometimes, like today when I have to print a contract with digital signatures, only Acrobat will do.)

One thing I've learned since OSX 10.2 is that Mac is finicky about printer drivers too.
I had a Lexmark and it would freeze all the time after I switched to Panther. It was a discontinued model so when I moved up to 10.3 there were no new drivers. Yes I've owned three printers since owning my first Mac an SE 30 I started out with a Apple ImagewriterII (made C-Itoch). I had to switch when I bought a 7100/66 which used the PowerPC processor instead of the 68030 processors. Then I had a HP DJ 650cse which used a Black Cartridge only. No color. I had to change again When I bought my G4-500. I am still using it today. Its the best printer I've had so far. I fear when I buy a new Intel Mac, and comes with X.6 (Snow Leopard) I will have to swap again. I've seen the new HP DeskJets and the won't last as long this one. They look like cheap toys and (gulp!) they use heads built like in epson not the Cartridges. The Cartridges were more expensive. But each time you bought one you got a new set of print heads. No longer.

Adobe Reader X (10.1.1) print dialog freezes

We recently pushed out Reader 10.1.1 to our agency staff. Some people have reported that the Print dialog box or the Print Properties dialog box freezes for 30-60 seconds before they can click any buttons on it. After that it seems fine.
We're on Win7 SP1 and WinXP SP3, and just upgraded from Reader 9.4.2 to 10.1.1. Most of our printers are Xerox Document Centre 5600 series and 7345, with a few older HP and Lexmark models. We currently use device specific PS drivers.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? Why would the dialog box freeze? I read something from a Google search about Reader searching all printers, not just the default printer, and hanging on any non-existent printers. http://gtech-kiwi.blogspot.com/2009/06/adobe-reader-print-dialog-display-slow.html As far as I know, the people who had the issue did not have any printers listed that no longer exist.

I'm tracking an issue which resembles Mr. Powell's report. Below are the symptoms I have recorded and the workaround I have discovered.
Symptom: when attempting to change print properties using Acrobat Reader print dialog the printer properties dialog becomes unresponsive to mouse clicks for a long time, an extended period of time, an indefinite length of time, my patience expired after 3 minutes. Unresponsive means that the user cannot print: in particular clicking the cancel and OK buttons on the dialog have no effect. Windows does not report the application as "not responding". The print properties dialog appears to be hung. The symptom is not observed every time the print dialog is invoked. The symptom has been observed when attempting to print a PDF from the Reader application or attempting to print a PDF that is open in IE.
Affected versions:
The symptom was first observed when deploying implementing Reader 10.1.2. Reader 10.1.3 does not resolve the issue. We migrated our environment from 9.X to Reader 10.1.2. The issue was not observed with the 9.X or earlier series. I have not tested with 10.1.1. The symptoms are not observed with other applications.
Environment:
My environment includes a Xerox WorkCentre 7675 and a Xerox WorkCentre 5675, one HP and a few Brother printers. So far the issue has only been reported in relation to the Xerox printers.
The printers in our environment have not changed. What changed was the Adobe Reader version.
Symptom observed on Win XP SP3 and Win 7 SP1 64bit.
Workarounds.
To wake up the print properties dialog invoked from the Adobe Reader print dialog the following seem to do the trick:
Change focus to a different application and switch back to Adobe Reader. For example, click the Start Menu and then click on the print dialog or use Alt-Tab.
Use the keyboard. 1a) Use the tab key to navigate the dialog. 1b) Press Alt-P to open the properties dialog.

Adobe X no print dialog box and program closes when printing

Have one user who started encountering this problem today:
Opens up PDF
Clicks on the Print icon (or File - Print)
The Print Dialog box never appears
Adobe 10.1.1 program then immediately closes - nothing in the event log
Able to get the PDF to print only if right clicking on the file and selecting Print (but don't get to select any Printing options)
Have tried selecting a different printer with the same results
Have uninstalled and reinstalled the program
Any help is appreciated

Photoshop Elements 2.0 downloads freezes the program

When I open Photoshop Elements it starts to download new files and then the Photoshop program freezes. I am able to use all the other programs but I can not use Photoshop and I am unable to close the program or opt out of downloads.
Can anyone tell me what can I do so I am able to use this program short of unplugging the internet? If this little photoshop is incompatable with Apple or Mac OS X is there an Apple program that is comparable to Photoshop?

Actually, you do want to start by "unplugging the internet." Quit PE, take the computer totally offline, restart PE and then go to preferences>Adobe Online and set Check for Updates to Never. There never were any, never will be any now that the program is up to version 5. It's the update checker that makes it hang.

Why does EVERY attempt to "reject" even a tiny clip freeze the program?

****, I know I am a real neophyte here, but iMovie STINKS. Every little thing causes it to hang up and freeze. Case in point: I (finally) download video from an old camcorder using an analog to digital converter. Importing is easy. God forbid one tries to actually EDIT something, however.
I was going through the clips and "rejecting" snippets here and there (an aside- why not just say "delete" like normal people?) and got to the point that it was time to "move them to the trash. Little did I know what I was in for......
EVERY time I did this the program would "hang" or freeze. If Ii let it go several minutes it would often complete the task, even if the deleted clip was all of half a second--literally. Sometimes it wouldn't work and I had to force quit, while DELETED THE WHOLE DAMNED HOUR I JUST SPENT IMPORTING! What a piece of junk.
Does anyone have any idea what the **** is wrong with this thing? I've updates software and done what little I know how to do. I called Apple and, of course, they admit it pretty much *****. What do we do in the interim? I don't feel like loading the 06 version as some are doing. I barely get the 08 version. Not so sure I feel like doing another one and don't know if it can handle HD video when I try the new Canon 1080i HD camcorder.

I think that the entire length of video event is reprocessed, even when a short amount is deleted, so if the clip is long, it takes a long time. I have been very frustrated with this as well, but have noticed that if I walk away from the computer, and come back later it is done (even when the "force quit" shows that imovie O8 is not responding). This is very frustrating, has not been fixed by Apple (I have been complaining since 08 came out), but there still are some advantages.
I am using both iMovie 08 and iMovie HD in processing/archiving old videos (non-digital, which I am transferring using a Canopus ADVC110). What I like about iMovie 08 (despite it's many draw-backs) is that files are saved as quicktime, and I can easily import them into Final Cut Express. Also, the thumbnails make it terribly easy to find the segments you are looking for. Otherwise, iMovie HD is better.

Big Query to XLS - Freeze the program

Hi everybody!
I have to export to an XLS file a big Query with more than 100.000 rows... When I do that, the program starts to export, but when pass more than 70.000 rows the program freeze and dont respond anymore...
Is this a bug of the version?

Not justifying the freeze, but Excel's last row is 65536, so any result set greater than that wouldn't fit anyway.
You could request spanning over multiple Excel sheets at the SQL Developer Exchange though, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.

When I try to print from Lightroom the program appears to go into safe mode(light gray) and never opens print options

I am trying to print a photo in Lightroom. I go to the print tab and it appears the program goes into safe mode(light gray) and does not open print options. All other functions of the program are working. I am not getting a memory low warning or other error messages. What would cause this problem?

DO NOT use HP's software for installing the printer, locate the uninstall directions from HP and uninstall ALL the HP software. Then follow the instructions located in Apple's Wireless Printer Install advice letter.

When trying to print to pdf the program I am printing from locks up

I'm using Acrobat 11.0.07 on a Windows PC with Win 8.1
I'm printing to pdf from QuickBooks. My first attempt works fine then the second locks up both programs.
If I force close QuickBooks; run a repair on Adobe; reboot my computer; I am then able to print one more document only to have to do the whole thing over again.
If I try to print from another program I get this error:
Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated.
Click Retry after activating Acrobat to continue printing.
Click Cancel to quit PDF Creation.
If I open a PDF file on my computer I get this error:
Shortly after the file is opened:
Please uninstall and reinstall the product.
If this problem still occurs, please contact Adobe technical support for help, and mention the error code shown a the bottom of this screen.
