W530 - "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" not working

My W530 displays the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message on startup. If I press Enter, I hear a beep and a message comes up indicating that a menu will be displayed, but Windows 8 starts loading shortly afterwards. When I see the message, I can press F1 to get to the BIOS, F10 for Diagnostics or F12 for a Boot menu, but for some reason enter doesn't work. I've tried several things, including using Recovery DVDs received from Lenovo to wipe the system (including formatting all drives), but still no luck. When I originally received the machine, the "enter" key would bring up a menu, but I have screwed something up and even a full recovery from Lenovo DVDs didn't help. I run Windows 8 and after receiving the machine used the Create System Image feature (which I had used many times in Windows 7), but a subsequent restore didn't go well and that is when the "enter" stopped working on startup. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I'm at a loss to understand how the full Recovery DVD process didn't fix it. Thanks.

Please help, my ideacentre Q150 got at stuck at preboot screen with Lenovo logo and message "To interrupt normal startup, press ENTER"
It started after I uninstalled 'Avira: Antivirus' that prompted me to reboot the system. Right after the shutdown and reboot, the system got stuck in pre boot screen.
No matter what I did, I could not get past this screen: I tried following and nothing helps:
1.) Repeatedly mashing Enter, F1, F2.. all function keys (I use the mini wireless keyboard N5901)
2.) Removed HDD
3.) Removed RAM and put back
4.) Removed CR2032 battery
Nothing helps. I bought this on 12/01/2011 and never had a problem until yesterday.
Please someone help!!!!

Hardrive Icon interrupts normal Startup - Please Help

Tonight upon starting my macbook, instead of the normal startup process it instead stayed at the gray screen and in place of the Apple symbol and the loading icon, there was a picture of the Macintosh HD with the word "Hardrive" under it. I turned the computer off and restarted, it started normally as it has always done. I've had this laptop for a year and a half and it has not done anything like this, it has in fact been the best computer I've had so far. Please help me, these things make me very uneasy and I worry about fixing them.
PS: I only really found one post with an almost identical case to mine that was posted back in December. Some theories in that thread included loose hardware inside the laptop, or for whatever reason the computer not knowing where to boot up from. I just got done with a 2 hour trip in the car that had a few bumps along the way - could this have caused the problem? Again, hope to hear an answer soon. Thanks for any help.

No USB keys, no DVD's connected either?
I recall the OLD OS 6-9 would have a similar situation when a faulty HDD or Mount issue occurred.
Try to repair the internal HDD with the DVD, or there should be a way to boot-up with no extensions or startup items.

ZSH "action keys" (Pos1, End, Enter) not working sometimes

Now to my shell issues: In zsh, when I for example Ctrl+C out of yaourt and then press Enter or Pos1 or End or basically anything else than letters/numbers and modkeys, I get the console text equivalent (for example ^M with Enter, don't know how to call it).
How do I fix this?

If the suggested battery pull reboot has no effect, It sounds like what I have seen multiple times on a device with moisture damage.
Even sitting on a bathroom counter during a hot steamy shower or bath can cause keyboard and trackball problems UNTIL properly dried out.
It really is more common than you think.
1. Remove the battery immediately!! Do not attempt to turn on your BlackBerry.
2. Let the device dry in a warm, dry place for 3 to 5 days* (see below)
3. DO NOT "check it each day" by placing the battery in. Leave it be to dry completely. This takes time. Replacing the battery to check it can only damage it more (moisture + electrical current = disaster).
3. If the device is warm after the drying period, allow it to cool to room temperature before placing the battery back in.
*Suggestions on drying your BlackBerry in a warm place (open, with the battery out):
Place the BB in a container of dry UNcooked rice, and then you might also place it in any of the locations mentioned below.
On top of any dry heat emitting electronic component: TV cabinet or CRT, LCD, cable TV/Satellite converter box or plasma monitor

Startup class is not working in oc4j

I have a servlet .In init of that servlet I will create an instance of a startup class .
In web.xml configuration I gave <load-on-startup></load-on-startup> .I created a war and an ear and deployed my application .The startup class is not called.
But when I configured the servlet in the default-web-app the startup class is running.
And furthur when I hot deploy my ear the startup class is running.
But when I restart my application server the startup class is not invoked.
can anybody help

Try closing the Settings 'app' completely : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Settings app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Settings app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Running syndaemon at startup in .xinitrc not working

I'm trying to run syndaemon so I can set my touchpad to turn off when typing. I'm using the command:
syndaemon -i 1 -d
If I issue this after logging into Gnome in a terminal, it works fine and I can see the syndaemon process running in System Monitor.
But if I add the command to my .xinitrc it doesn't work. I followed the instructions in the wiki, to no avail. I also found that another command I wanted to issue in .xinitrc ("xset -dpms") to solve a different problem with gnome-power-manager wasn't working either. I got that to work by issuing the command as a startup program in Gnome's Starup Applications gui.
Anyway, I guess I could do the same thing with syndaemon, but I'm wondering why it's not working in .xinitrc, as it's supposed to. Thanks for any help.

Okay, I tried slim and it did execute the xset and syndaemon commands from .xinitrc.
Then in a Google search this old post from the Arch forums turned up, from way back in 2003: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=726. At the end Xentac explains that GDM does in fact only look to .xinitrc for what window manger to start and ignores everything else (which of course is also what Wilco says above).

Curiously, when I was using Slim it solved a different bug I was having, with my brightness getting dimmed after every shutdown. So at least now I know it's gdm that's doing that. And once again I've learned that I'm more likely to turn up relevant Arch forum posts with google searches than with the Arch forum search function.

Why is the last part of the Word Press install not working?

I am installing Word Press to work in Dreamweaver. I have installed MAMP and everything is working fine, I assume. The location of the files are /applications/MAMP/htdocs/wp-content/themes/twentyten.
I have installed PHP/MySql on my machine and have set up the wordpress database as instructed. The last part of the process has me bogged down. In following step one of the process, I get a blank screen. Here's the url: http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php and the instructions to complete the process.
With the WordPress files copied to the correct location in the htdocs folder, the web server installed, and a database created, open a browser and browse to http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php.
A screen telling you to create a configuration file will appear. Click the Create a Configuration File button.
Click the Let’s Go button to go to a page that allows you to enter your database information.
Type your database name, wordpress.
Type your MySQL user name and password (usually the user name and password are both admin, unless you changed them in the database).
For the Database Host type localhost.
Click Submit

I'm stuck installing virtualhosts in DW and using Wordpress templates, but I may be a few steps further than you are, so I'll try to help. I'm also using Windows, so who knows?
I'm assuming you are not using a virtual host, just a local host; therefore, I went to the section that has instructions for the steps you are on in David Powers' "Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP: Training from the Source" and right after he has you launch the browser and open "wordpress/wp-admin/install.php" in "your [site name here] site." He goes on to write:
The URL depends on how you set up your testing environment:
Virutal host: http://[site name here]/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php
Localhost: http://localhost/[site name here]/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php
NOTE: if you are using the MAMP default ports on a Mac, add :8888 after [site name here] for a virual host, or after a localhost.
So perhaps that's what you're missing, I really don't know.

GPO with a startup script is not working.

I have a GPO that I have added a ".bat" script to the "Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\scripts\startup/shutdown" section. The batch file is located in the netlogon folder. This script was part of another Old GPO
that I want to consolidate into this new GPO. So I am taking the exact settings from the old GPO and applying it to the new GPO.
The script does not run at startup and when I go into Group Policy Management, highlight the GPO then on the right pane click the settings tab it doesn't display the startup script as being set. It's just not there. If I select edit and go to the
"Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\scripts\startup/shutdown\startup" section the .bat script is present though.
Also if I do a gpresult it also shows that it isn't running the script but all other settings in the GPO are being applied.
This GPO has the User Config. side disabled
Why isn't the GPO applying the script or even acknowledging that it is present in the settings tab?

Startup Manager is not working

The startup manager doesn't boot when I start the computer while holding the option key. Even if there are no other volumes connected, it still doesn't show the startup manager screen (just main startup disk and recovery).
I recently just reinstalled the OS via recovery mode (other unrelated problem, no biggie). I made a bootable clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, to a bare harddrive of same capacity via a FW800 dock. Booting with the clone via System Preferences isn't a problem. But the Start + Option route doesn't work.
I'm thinking it's the graphics card that I have, a GTX 680 (not flashed for Mac). Because the card hasn't been flashed I don't get the gray screen with Apple logo screen, it goes straight to the Login Page. Not a problem for me, but maybe this is the reason?
Specs:
Mac Pro 5,1 2.4 GHz 12 core
GTX 680 - latest Nvidia Web Driver and CUDA Driver
10.8.5 - all updated

F9 / Ctrl-Enter not working in SQL Worksheet

All of a sudden (yesterday morning) both F9 and Ctrl Enter have stopped working - I cannot output queries to a grid.
These keystrokes still show up as Shortcut Keys under Tools - Preferences - Shortcut Keys
I have 3.0.3.97 still installed and F9 still works there.
Any ideas?

Question mark folder at startup, safe boot not working

Last night my iMac froze up, Force Quit didn't work, and I used the Power button to shut it off. When trying to restart, it was getting stuck at the grey Apple.
I tried unplugging the peripherals and restarting; zapping the PRAM and restarting; safe boot and restarting. Safe boot did it.
I then ended up going through those steps a few more times as my iMac starting freezing up again. One of those times I changed all my applications in the dock that were set to launch at login to not do so, wondering if that was somehow causing a problem. I also took a folder of recent items I'd created, mostly a LOT of PDFs of newspaper articles, burned it to a DVD and deleted the folder to free up more memory if that was part of the problem (I'm running out). I then restarted from the Apple menu and it shut down through safe boot and then restarted without safe boot and did so just fine. I ran Disk Utility and very few if any permissions needed repairing. And it was operating OK for a bit and then froze up again.
Now I'm getting the question mark folder at startup and safe boot isn't working. What should I be trying next? Lion Recovery with Command-R? I'm relatively new to Lion, but it had been working OK for me for a while now.
What other things should I try? Would Target Disk mode possibly work from the MacBook I'm using now, which doesn't have Lion installed?

The question mark folder usually means that the
firmware could either not find a valid operating
system to boot, or, it could not find a hard disk
with an operating system on it.
Have you tried booting to Lion Recovery? If
you can, then go into Disk Utility and do a
Repair Disk on your OSX volume. If the
OSX volume is not showing up, you may need
to do a reformat and re-install.
Since it is a 24" iMac (from your description) it was
a pre-Lion Mac. If you still have the original install
disks, try booting with it and use Disk Utility from it
to see if the hard drive is working.
Try this first before making a road trip.

Startup batch file not working on WinXP S.P.2

I have Oracle database release 10.1.0.2.0. And until recently, it started up and shut down easily from 2 batch files that I used. Luckily, although they don't work now, I can still open Oracle by using the [ Administration Tools | Services ] tabs and manually start the required services. When I click on my startupOracle.bat file now - the dos window that appears seems to zoom by so fast - and nothing gets started. So, of course, I'm relieved that I can still operate
Oracle software. I'm wondering if the fact that the batch files aren't working is a symptom of another ( general computer ) problem I might have. Here is the startup batch file which used to work , but not now
