W530 with USB 3.0 dock hardware profiles

I have a thinkpad W530 running Windows 8.1 Update that is connected to a USB 3.0 Pro dock when i am at my desk.  Is there any way to get the laptop to sense the docked condition and toggle Audio/Video to the external devices and then toggle to the internal devices when undocked?  It seems hit or miss on this happening.  We use Microsoft Lync and sometimes when i boot up connected to the dock, Lync still is set to use the on laptop camera and speakers.  If i set it correctly docked, when i boot up off of the dock, Lync sometimes gets the hardware correct and sometimes doesn't.
I was hoping that there was either a Lenovo utility that could sense the docked vs undocked condition and toggle appropriate hardware or that i have something set wrong that someone might be able to suggest.
Thanks.

Just a quick question:  the  Mini Dock  Plus USB Series 3 with USB- 170W dock (part number 433835U) IS definitely compatible with the W530?  I just finished text chatting with a rep (I know, I know) and was told "There is no compatible docking station for the W530).  Yet, I found where the W530 is listed as compatible here:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-4TPJF4
Does anyone have any actual experience with this docking station and know for certain whether it's compatible?
Thanks!

  • Thinkpad X1 Mouse Issues with USB 3.0 Dock and WIndows 8.1

I have a new X1 (3444-CUU) that I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. When I connected to the Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock, there was an automatic updated of the firmware on the docking station.
Everything seems to be working except issues with my Keyboard and Mouse.Periodically, the mouse will disappear of the keyboard will simply stop working. Most recently, it was as if the delete key was stuck causing it to delete all my email (actually a feature I liked but unfortunately, can't allow).
Is there a known issue with wireless keyboard?

I have a possibly similar issue that seems to be related to the keyboard dock. In my case this is with logitec unified receiver, but what I found may help you narrow the issue's root cause.
I found that after a reboot, the dock's USB ports (bothh SS or USB 3.0) will not recognize logitech's unified receiver. Even though it is Windows reporting it, it seems to be related to the hardware. What I do to have minimally invasive 'functioning' system is to undock the Helix (use as tablet). This makes the genuine USB 2.0 port of the tablet accessible. I then plug the receiver into that port and wait until the mouse is recognized. Then remove the receiver, re-dock the tablet on the keyboard dock and plug the receiver into the dock's usb 3.0 port. Then everything works.
That seems to somehow circumvent part of the refreshing of the USB connected devices and allows them to work correctly.
I wonder if that addresses your issue. Of course I am opening another thread and ticket with that issue (will post a link after that)

  • Recommendations for external monitor in combination with USB 3.0 dock and X1 carbon touch

    Dear Community,
I'm waiting for my X1 carbon touch and USB 3.0 dock and keyboard/mouse to arrive any time soon. However, I'd be glad to get some help/recommendations on external monitor choice.
For instance, the new HP envy 27" caught my eye, since it includes speakers, but it comes with HDMI and Displayport connections only. As far as I understood, video connection itselft shouldn't be a problem using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, but how about the resolution of the X1 vs. a HD+ monitor, and how do I use the audio on this monitor (don't want to use the microphone jack in front of the dock, as it should look as minimalistic as possible)?
Is there a solution? via usb 3.0? or should I better consider another monitor? Anyways, DVI or HDMI, I don't want to connect a separate audio system to the dock. Any recommendations, or is it one of those gadgets that  has not been thought through well enough and you need to wait for the next generation to be developed?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Cheers, jcd

Since you don't want to use the jack on the dock, you could usethemini-DisplayPortontheX1cTouchasyourvideooutputoption because the version of DP on the X1c Touch includes the ability for audio to streamed over the DP connection in addition to video. This would require a compatible DP monitor.
You'll also want the monitor to support audio over the DP connection. The X1c Touch's graphics supports the output of an audio stream over DP and the machine should be be capable of this. This gives you two cables connecting to the X1c Touch -- the DP cable for audio and video and the USB 3.0 cable connecting to the dock. The dock would be attached to keyboard, mouse, USB accessories, and Ethernet (if necessary).
As far as what to look for in a monitor, my general recommendation is Dell Ultrasharp. They tend to be a good deal for an IPS monitor with at least an sRGB gamut and a solid warranty. I've never bothered to attempt to stream audio over DP because I have separate speakers for audio. In the same way that my last 3 laptops have been ThinkPads, my last three monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps. The graphics in the X1c Touch should be fine running a 1920x1080, so I wouldn't worry about resolution. It can be a little jarring to use monitors side-by-side when they have different pixel densities, so you'll likely end up treating them as separate display surfaces. I often have e-mail and Pandora open on my T420's screen while I'm doing the bulk of my work on my main monitors. If you think you'll be touching the screen a good bit, then you might want to look into buying a touch capable monitor. Otherwise your brain can become easily confused because it'll begin to think that all computer screens are touch-capable and you'll reach out and try to touch your desktop monitor without thinking.

  • X201 with usb 3.0 dock

    Hey guys,
I have an x201 and am trying to use the lenovo usb 3.0 dock with it. Everything works bar the displaylink display. is there something i need to do to get an extended desktop displaying through the dock? I know i can use vga.... howeverthe office is set up to work with the x1 carbon i have in for repair, the x201 is my back up.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
    DT

not on the X201, it would be available on the next X2xx update when intel integrate usb 3.0 feature in their chipset. Right now the only laptop to have usb 3.0 is the W510, which uses a separate controller to enable that feature.

  • Sudden shut down: ThinkPad W530 + Anker USB 3.0 Dock with DisplayLink driver

    Hi all,
I have a W530. There, I use Anker USB 3.0 Dual Display Universal Docking Station driven by DiplayLink which is connected one 23" LCD, NEC MultiSync P232W. My W530 works well when it starts up alone without the USB docking station. But, when I start up it with the docking station connected USB 3.0 port, my W530 encounters sudden shutdown. Especially, it often happens during starting up Windows OS or in 5 minutes from starting up. Once, succeeded starting up and passed first 5 minutes, it works well until it is shut down or falls into sleep mode.
To fix it, I reinsatalled Windows 8.1 and updated related drivers. But the problem has not fixed. I am doubtful of hardware problems but I am not sure which one has problems.
Any ideas what might cause this annoying problem?
I listed my models and drivers.
    Hardware
     ThinkPad W530, Product: 243852U, BIOS: G5ET98WW (2.58)
Anker Anker USB 3.0 Dual DisplayDocking Station (connected with two external HDD, intuos pen tablet, USB keyboard and LAN cable)
NEC MultiSync P232W (connected with the Dock via DVI cable)
    Driver
    Windows 8.1
    DisplayLink 7.6.56275
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The problem probably has been fixed.
I received an advice from Anker customer support.
    I followed the steps below.
    1.Find Device manager
2.Look for Universal Serial Bus Controllers---USB Root Hub right click USB Root Hub then select properties,
3.On the tabs above find Power Management--- uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and then click “ok”. Reboot the laptop/computer.
After changing the setting, I have not met the problem so far.

  • Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 vs. ... with USB 3.0 - 90 W vs. ... with USB 3.0 (170W)

    I am running a
    Lenovo T530, Quad-Core
    Intel i5-3320M CPU @ 2.6 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    Windows 8, 64-bit
    I am using a 90W 20V power adaptor.
I want to see the difference between mainly the Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 Dock and the Mini Dock Series 3 with USB 3.0 Dock - 90 W. From looking over the descriptions, they seem to be the same product, yet the latter is $20 more expensive. Could someone explain why that is or if a difference exists?
Will my specs allow me to have a quad display configuration?
From looking at other posts, I assume using a 170W power adaptor on a laptop that runs with a 90W power adaptor is a bad idea?
    Thanks in advance!

Your Intel i5 is a dual core CPU, not a quad core CPU (in case you didn't already know).
The difference between the docks you listed, one is with 2 x DP + 2 DVI while the other is 1 x DP + 1 x DVI.
Does your T530 have Nvidia GPU? If you do, then get the dock with 2 x DP + 2 x DVI (Series 3 Plus dock), this will give you quad displays setup. The one with Intel GPU will give you triple display setup through the dock.

I also just bought a 4630 and have the same problem (Windows XP) BUT after finally figuring out how to enter numbers on the key pad I was able to get the device to recognize and accept my wireless connection HOWEVER when attempting to print the software claims it could not communicate with the printer BUT the printer worked just fine and I was able to get at least 8 pages of high quality text.

  • Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 - 170W causing uab/wireless keyboard issues

W530 here, win 7 64 bit, 32g ram. When plugged into the Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 - 170W, all external keyboards (wired/wireless) don't work. Keyboards appear to be properly recognized devices and drivers are installed, but I can't type using these keyboards and am limited to the laptop's keyboard. Any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jan C.

    Hi, Jan C.,
I did some research and found this thread by a user named Sssith, who was experiencing a similar issue with using a keyboard with a docking station. His issue stemmed from the USB hub drivers not being correctly installed. I would recommend updating these drivers and your BIOS just to make sure. The USB drivers can be found here, and the BIOS here. If neither of these work, then you could try Sssith's method of removing the drivers and letting Windows install the generic ones.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Dock/Undock Hardware Profiles Missing

I have a user with a Thinkpad t60z that uses a docking station. There are a couple things happening..
    1. when he docks hot (with the system turned on), it doesn't recognize his network connection.
    2. The dock / undock option is missing from the start menu.
    3. The dock / undock hardware profiles are missing.
I'm thinking the root of the problem is the hardware profiles.. but, need some guidance on how to get them back ... any suggestions would be appreciated.
Not sure what could causing the missing dock/undock option in the Start menu.. any help with that would be appreciated.
This is running a Windows XP SP3 OS - we just updated the BIOS to the latest version. Note: this issue was happening before the bios update...
    Thanks.

  • Syncing Classic with USB killed docking station for my Nano

I have two libraries in Itunes, one for music and one for books. I use my Nano for music. After I organized a second library for books, I bought a Classic. It uses a USB cable. After my first hookup of the Classic, syncing the book library. The firewire docking station for my Nano no longer will connect that Ipod to Itunes. I can charge, but not sync. Is this a new feature from Apple or does Itune now only recognize Ipod thru the USB port? I can sync the Nano with USB, but I like the docking station

I do not think that your USB docking station is faulty. I use it all the time.
What killed my ipods (resulting in exactly your problem) was the update to firmware 1.1.2. I am on my fifth !! ipod classic (courtesy of technical support/ genius bar at the apple store) as they are not as solid as the older models and
may go wrong quicker, despite much more enhanced functions. Touch wood mine is working fine now.
In the mean time, you could try a hard/factory reset of your ipod:

Interesting may also be "hidden" ipod commands:

  • Help thinking buying a W530 with RAID hardware or software

I'm thinking to buy a W530 with RAID. I have no experience with RAID and never thought that RAID is possible in a labtop.
I have read that RAID comes in types of implementation, software or with a hardware controller. In this forum I read that in the W530 service manual the RAID controller has been disappeared from the motherboard (I have not checked by myself).
Does anyone know if RAID is still implemented by a hardware and not by software.
    Frank

From the forums and the rep I spoke with, RAID is implemented in the hardware.  You will not be able to enable RAID later on if you did not order it like that from the factory.
You would probably be better off going SSD in the primary and a larger capacity HDD in the ultrabay.  You'll have better speed, more reliability, and lower power consumption in general compared to 2 HDD in RAID 0.

  • T420s + Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 90W - USB 3.0 works as USB 2.0

    Greetings!
I am most probably not the first one who is interested, but I failed to find the same topic in the forum.
I have Lenovo T420s plugged into ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 90W. The problem I have USB 3.0 port on the dock (blue one) works as USB 2.0. The laptop port works fine. I am checking it by plugging Seagate mobile HDD - when the HDD is plugged into the blue port on the dock station Windows (7, 64-bit) complains 'Device can perform faster', using laptop's port doesnt trigger the message.
    USB 3.0 driver is installed.
    BIOS version is 1.37.
    Intel Chipset drivers are updated.
Device manager shows the connection as a chain of two 'Generic USB Hub's, if HDD is connected to the laptop's port its chain of 'Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 blah-blah'.
Please help! If this combination is just not supported, please point to the relevant link.
    Thank you!

    Excellent, thank you!

  • Trouble with my Z2 using dock or USB to PC

I tried to do a search but didn't come up with anything entirely on point. My issue is when I plug my Z2 into a pc it goes crazy. A whole lot of lag, and any program I use constantly crashes/refreshes and the screen becomes very unresponsive (i.e. if im typing a text, the keyboard drops down and back up every 2s, or a website will flicker and reload, games will load then crash and reload). Eventually the screen turns off and won't come on again until I remove the plug. It also won't charge off the dock charger. It pops up a msg saying battery is draining faster than it is charging. Here are the the things that lead up to this:
    1. I was trying to charge it at work with a sony magnetic charging cable ( I hate opening the flap), and it wouldn't register the charger but the screen would come on when connected. It was previously working fine up to that point with the charger. So I was messing with it to see if the contact points weren't touching and the whole phone shut down. I couldn't get it to turn back on until I got home and used the wall charger, everything else just made the LED flash red but not respond to power + volume up or down (which worked after putting on the wall charger for 20m)
    2. I got the OTA update for .402 this morning. So when the initial crash happened I was on .69, but I never tested it on the USB before the .402 update. I've tried a few different USB cords, including the one it comes with. Tested the dock charger on both .69 and .402, neither worked. The charging icon just flashes.
PCC repair didn't help either, tried twice. Any ideas?

Contacted support via chat, they had me call and they said they don't have parts or the phone in the US to service me yet, and so my options are to call long distance to UK or Tiawan or wait an unspecified time for them to have the phone/parts in the US to service it.

  • X1 Carbon / ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock: Issues with connecting with more than one Dock

    Hello fellow users / Lenovo,
In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work.
However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with.
Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel.
Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal.
It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly.
Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel.
Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

Would love an official response to this.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock 0A33970 with 2560x1440 monitor

My 2560x1440 monitor works fine on a desktop PC.
This dock (really more like a USB 3.0 to dual DVI adapter) works fine with my 1920x1200 monitor.
But this dock won't recognize my 2560x1440 monitor/the 2560x1440 resolution doesn't get detected.  This problem happens with NVidia Optimus Mode and Discreet Video modes on my ThinkPad W520, and this happens with Windows 7 x64 SP1 or Windows 8 Release Preview.

    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM014961
    Any ideas?

    Hey Jimbo!
At this point, it's looking likely that the dock's driver and/oor firmware isn't supporting 2560x1440, since using a DisplayPort (from W520 port) to DVI-D Accell adapter allows my to work fine with my video driver:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014142
    Here's the monitor:
    http://tinkertry.com/close-look-qnix-qx2700-led-2560x1440-27-inch-monitor
so still eager to see if the DL-3900 chipset's capabilities to drive 2560x1440 will be enabled at some point.
